Legendary Malayalam actor Mohan Lal has been conferred with the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award by the Union Government of India on Friday. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting announced that Mohan Lal has been chosen for this coveted honour for the year 2023. The award will be presented to the actor on September 23rd at the 71st National Film Awards ceremony. Last year, veteran actor Mithun Chakraborty received this honour.

Mohan Lal is the second Malayali film icon to receive this rare honour after the legendary auteur Adoor Gopalakrishnan. Fondly called Lalettan by his fans and admirers, Mohan Lal is one of the most celebrated actors of Indian cinema. With a remarkable career spanning over four decades, Mohan Lal acted in more than 350 films and created an indelible impression on the film industry. The Dadasaheb Phalke Award is conferred on legendary film personalities for their distinguished service to cinema. Legendary artists like Rajinikanth, Amithabh Bachchan, Sivaji Ganesan, Vinod Khanna etc were already honoured with this award.
