Demolished mosque in Hyderabad to be rebuilt at same site: AIMIM

0

A mosque demolished by the municipal authorities at Shamshabad on the outskirts of Hyderabad four days ago will be reconstructed at the same site, a legislator of AIMIM said on Friday.

Kausar Mohiuddin, a member of the Telangana Assembly, along with other local leaders of All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) and local residents, offered Friday prayers at the same site in Green Avenue Colony where Masjid-e-Khaja Mahmood was razed on Tuesday.

After the prayers, he said the mosque would be rebuilt at the same place. He claimed that on the representation of AIMIM President and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi, the state government has allowed reconstruction of the mosque.

Police had made tight security arrangements in the area to prevent any untoward incident. Only 50 people were allowed to offer Friday prayers.

The demolition of the mosque had triggered strong protest by local Muslims. AIMIM leaders had staged protests at the municipal office and at the office of Rangareddy district Collector.

Taking a serious note of the demolition, Owaisi made a representation to the government. The Municipal Administration department had formed a three-member committee, which visited the municipal office and the place where the mosque was demolished. It was made clear after the panel’s visit that the government will not create hurdles in reconstruction of the mosque.

The management committee of the mosque along with AIMIM leaders had handed over all documents relating to the approval for construction of the mosque to the municipal officials. They also demanded strong action against the officials responsible for demolition.

The mosque was constructed three years ago and local residents say daily five times Namaz including Friday prayers were being performed regularly.

The municipal authorities demolished the mosque by deploying bulldozers in the presence of police in the early hours of Tuesday. The action was taken on a complaint by a local resident that the place of worship was constructed without approvals.

The local Muslim residents, however, claimed that the mosque was built after obtaining all the approvals.

AIMIM celebrates 64th anniversary of its revival

0

All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) on Wednesday celebrated 64th anniversary of its revival with party leader Akbaruddin Owaisi hoisting the party flag at Darussalam, the party headquarters here.

With party chief and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi busy in the campaigning for ongoing Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, his younger brother and party leader in the Telangana assembly did the honours in the presence of party legislators, leaders and workers.

Speaking on the occasion, Akbaruddin Owaisi recalled how his grandfather Maulvi Abdul Wahed Owaisi strove hard to protect the rights of Muslims and other minorities enshrined in the Indian Constitution by reviving the party on this day in 1958 with a new party constitution.

He said undeterred by the atmosphere of fear and misery among the Muslims in the aftermath of Police Action in 1948, he took up the onerous task of organising the community and gave it a new hope.

Akbaruddin Owaisi paid rich tributes to his grandfather and father and former MP Sultan Salahuddin Owaisi and said it was due to their hard work and sacrifices that AIMIM grew into a major political force today and is now expanding across the country.

The AIMIM legislator said without the sacrifices of Abdul Wahed Owaisi and Sultan Salahuddin Owaisi, AIMIM would not have built a chain of medical and educational institutions and would not have reached to this stage.

Dismissing the allegation of AIMIM’s critics that it is a communal party, he read out a resolution that was passed at the first public meeting of the party on March 2, 1958, which condemned communal politics and stressed on the need for Hindu-Muslim unity.

Claiming that the party strongly believes in the nation’s secular democracy, Akbaruddin Owaisi said it continued to protect and enhance its quality by effective representation from local to national level.

He made it clear that the assets built by the party over last six decades are owned by Muslims of Deccan and that Asaduddin Owaisi and other leaders are mere custodians of these assets.

Akbaruddin Owaisi listed out the achievements of the party during last six decades and also the help rendered by it to victims of riots and natural calamities in various parts of the country. He also mentioned the works undertaken by the party to help poor during Covid-19 pandemic.

He claimed that no other political party in the country can show even one per cent of the work undertaken by AIMIM in the areas of education and healthcare.

AIMIM was working to build leadership in other states of the country to raise the voice of the oppressed and try to solve the problems of poor and weaker sections of society.

Akbaruddin Owaisi slammed Narendra Modi government for failing to fulfill its promises of creating jobs and for delivering ‘acchey din’.

He voiced concern over the hatred being spread across the country in the name of ‘Hijab’. “Every Indian has right to wear what he or she likes. Similarly, Muslim women and girls have right to wear hijab,” he said.

Referring to recent attack on Asaduddin Owaisi in Uttar Pradesh, Akbaruddin Owaisi said the history of the party show that its leadership is not scared of such attempts.

Stating that Muslims are equal partners in the country, he said AIMIM was leading the democratic fight to ensure that Muslims get their due rights enshrined in the Constitution of India.

He slammed the so-called opposition parties which need votes of Muslims but are not willing to work for their upliftment.

AIMIM lodges police complaint against Wasim Rizvi for blasphemy

0

All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) on Wednesday lodged a complaint with Hyderabad police, seeking action against former chairman of Uttar Pradesh’s Shia Wakf Board Wasim Rizvi for blasphemy.

A delegation of AIMIM leaders led by party president and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi met Hyderabad Police Commissioner Anjani Kumar and lodged a complaint against Rizvi.

The delegation brought to the police commissioner’s notice a book authored by Rizvi, in which he has vilified Prophet Mohammed.

Asaduddin Owaisi said the author used objectionable language against the Prophet, the religion of Islam and its followers.

“The contents of the book and the objectionable statements have been made with a view to outrage the religious sentiments of those who follow Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) and abide by Islamic tenets,” reads the representation submitted to the police commissioner.

The AIMIM alleged that Rizvi’s statements are also targeted at creating a feeling of enmity against Muslims of India which is likely to result in a threat to the breach of peace.

Owaisi demanded that Rizvi and his associates be booked under Sections of 153A, 153B, 295A, 504 and 505 (1) c of the Indian Penal Code.

Owaisi told reporters they also gave the commissioner excerpts of the book. He said the police commissioner assured the delegation that a criminal case will be booked.

The MP hoped Telangana government will not only book the case and arrest the accused. He also appealed to Muslims and other peace loving people of the country to file criminal cases against Rizvi.

He said the book was written to provoke Muslim to come out on streets. “This person has become a tool in the hands of the people who are inimical to the integrity and peace of this country and he is being used by anti-Islamic forces who do not believe in India’s pluralism and diversity,” he said.

The AIMIM delegation included party leader in Telangana Assembly Akbaruddin Owaisi, other MLAs and MLCs.

Rajnath uttered lies on Savarkar: Owaisi

0

AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi on Wednesday said that Defence Minister Rajnath Singh uttered a lie that it was on Mahatma Gandhi’s request that Savarkar wrote mercy petitions to the British.

Owaisi, a member of the Lok Sabha from Hyderabad, disputed Singh’s claim in a series of tweets.

“Here’s the letter to Savarkar from Gandhi. No mention of petition to British begging for leniency, mercy & promising to be a faithful servant of the crown,” wrote Owaisi while tagging the letter dated January 25, 1920 as published in ‘The Collected Works of Mahatma Gandhi’.

The president of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) pointed out that Savarkar wrote the first petition in 1911, just 6 months after going to prison. Gandhi was then in South Africa. Savarkar wrote again in 1913/14. Gandhi’s advice is from 1920.

“Is it a lie that this “Veer” rejected tricolour & wanted Bhagva as our flag?,” asked the MP.

“In your speech yesterday, you mentioned that Savarkar defined Hindu as anyone for whom India was fatherland or motherland. However, Savarkar, as a man of limited intellectual prowess had actually defined Hindu as someone for whom India was fatherland AND holy land,” Owaisi wrote.

“In his view, India was not the holy land for Muslims & Christians and so they couldn’t be fully loyal to India. What is your view on this as Defence Minister? Do you subscribe to this theory?,” he asked the minister.

Owaisi demanded that whoever wrote this speech for Singh should be fired, saying it’s not good to have advisers who have a Savarkarite relationship to truth.

Earlier, Singh hailed Savarkar as a staunch nationalist and India’s first military strategist in the 20th century. He also stated that people from the Marxist and Leninist ideology wrongly accuse him of being a fascist.

Speaking at an event to release a book on Savarkar, Singh described him as a ‘national icon’ and said he gave the country a ‘robust defence and diplomatic doctrine’

Meanwhile, Owaisi told reporters that the BJP and the RSS are giving a message to the country that the day is not far when Savarkar will be declared Father of the Nation in place of Mahatma Gandhi.

Owaisi said as a MP it was painful for him to see Savarkar’s portrait opposite the portrait of Mahatma Gandhi in the Central Hall of Parliament.

He said Rajnath Singh uttered a lie when he stated that Savarkar wrote mercy petitions on Gandhi’s advice. He pointed out that Gandhi believed in going to jail as a non-violent way of protest. “Savarkar wrote mercy petition in eight months after being sent to Kaala Paani. Why others who were imprisoned did not write mercy petitions,” he asked.

On RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat’s statement praising Savarkar, Owaisi said it has become Bhagwat’s habit to utter ‘half-truths’ and ‘full lies’.

He asked the RSS chief if he would deny that Sardar Patel had stated that the financial wing of the Hindu Maha Sabha which used to work under Savarkar assassinated Mahatma Gandhi.

“Will he also deny that Justice Kapoor Commission of Inquiry in its report said that Savarkar was complicit in Mahatma Gandhi’s assassination?” Owaisi asked.

The AIMIM leader disputed Bhagwat’s claim that Savarkar was not an enemy of Muslims. He cited Savarkar’s statement that only Hindus are true nationals of this country. He alleged that Savarkar was a believer in fascism and Nazism.

Are Owaisi brothers distancing from TRS?

1

AIMIM or Majlis is a strange party. The party is known for moving closer with any party which is in power in the state since decades.

In Undivided Andhra Pradesh, when TDP or Congress were in power, the Majlis moved closely with those parties.

Owaisi brothers used to praise previous Chief Ministers of Undivided AP, N Chandrababu Naidu and YS Rajashekar Reddy to the skies when they ruled the states between 1995 and 2009.

This went on till N Kiran Kumar Reddy became Chief Minister in December 2010.

Unlike previous CMs who used to pamper Owaisi brothers, Kiran adopted a tough stand against Owaisi brothers for flaring up communal tensions in state with their hate speeches against Hindus.

Kiran was so tough against Owaisis that his government booked cases against Akbaruddin Owaisi and sent him to jail for his hate speech in Nirmal.

With this, Majlis deserted Congress during Kiran regime and used to fight against Congress in Assembly.

But after bifurcation of AP and formation of Telangana in June 2014, the Owaisi brothers became closer to ruling party TRS and Telangana CM KCR.

Both TRS and AIMIM are maintaining ‘friendly ties’ since then despite BJP strongly criticizing their bonding.

But Majlis seemed to have now become unhappy at TRS going by the anger being expressed by Akbaruddin Owaisi against ruling party in the Legislative Assembly in the ongoing monsoon session.

Owaisi is taking TRS to task in the Assembly on the issue of failure to protect Wakf lands.

Likewise, he is raising strong objections on TRS government’s claims on welfare schemes and development programmes in the Assembly.

Political analysts say cracks have appeared in TRS-Majlis friendship and are expected to worsen as Assembly polls in 2023 December near.

They say Owaisi brothers might be angry at KCR for frequently visiting Delhi and holding meetings with top BJP leaders including PM Narendra Modi and home minister Amit Shah.

Man injured in MIM leader’s firing in Telangana succumbs

1

A man who was injured in the firing by a leader of Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) in Telangana’s Adilabad town on December 18, succumbed on Saturday, police said.

Syed Zameer, 52, a former councilor from Tatiguda in Adilabad, breathed his last at Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) in Hyderabad.

He along with his brother Syed Mannan and nephew Syed Mohtesin were injured when MIM Adilabad district president Mohammed Farooq Ahmed opened fire from his licensed revolver and also attacked them with a knife.

Zameer and Mohtesin had sustained bullet injuries while Mannan received stab wounds. As Zameer’s condition was critical, he was shifted to Hyderabad for treatment.

Mohammed Farooq, former deputy chairman of Adilabad municipality, attacked his rivals after a tussle between two groups playing cricket in Tatiguda area.

A video of the attack went viral over social media. Farooq was seen opening fire from his weapon while holding knife in another hand.

Police had arrested the accused and booked for attempt to murder. With Zameer’s death, he will be booked for murder. Police also recommended to the collector and district magistrate to cancel accused’s gun license.

Previous grudge seems to be the source of conflict between the two parties, police said The families of Farooq and Zameer are said political rivals.

Farooq’s wife is the councilor from Tatiguda. In the elections held last year she had defeated a woman relative of Zameer, who had contested on Congress party’s ticket.

Following the incident, MIM dissolved party’s Adilabad unit and announced that a new president will be announced

AIMIM denied permission for anti-CAA protest at Charminar

0

The Hyderabad police on Thursday rejected permission for a poetry and protest meeting against the CAA, NPR and NRC at the historic Charminar on the night of January 25 after BJP lodged its protest with the Police Commissioner.

The poetry and protest along with hoisting of the national flag at Charminar, the symbol of Hyderabad, was planned by the United Muslim Action Committee, of which All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) is a part.

However, hours after a delegation of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders called on Hyderabad Police Commissioner Anjani Kumar, the organizers announced that the venue has been shifted to the Khilwat Ground.

AIMIM President and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi tweeted that the police rejected permission for the protest meeting and instead advised them to move it to nearby Khilwat Grounds.

He announced that the ‘Mushaira’ and protest meeting against Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), National Population Register (NPR) and National Register of Citizens (NRC) will now be held at Khilwat Grounds. The national flag would be hoisted at midnight to usher in the Republic Day.

BJP’s Telangana unit chief K. Laxman had threatened that if AIMIM was permitted to hold the protest rally at Charminar, his party would hold a meeting at another place.

Laxman alleged that the police were denying permission to BJP for rallies and meetings but were allowing AIMIM to organise its programmes. He said AIMIM, through its programme at the Charminar, would spread communal disharmony.

It was earlier this month that Owaisi had announced the protest programme at Charminar. His party on Thursday stated that the programme will see participation by country’s leading Urdu poets.

“There is a long-standing tradition in Hyderabad to use poetry and satire to challenge tyranny and oppression, this ‘Festival of Democracy’ is part of this tradition. The goal of the event is to not only celebrate the Republic of India and its Constitution, but to also emphasise on the dangers to it from CAA, NPR and NRC,” the AIMIM said.

The event will see participation by well-known poets Rahat Indori, Sampat Saral and Lata Haya along with young voices such as Nabiya Khan, Aamir Aziz and Husain Haidry.

The line “kisi ke baap ka Hindustan thodi hai” from Indori’s poem has been a constant in anti-CAA protests being staged across the country. Aziz’s “Acche Din Blues” and “Main inkaar karta hoon” have also seen widespread popularity on the Internet.

Members of civil society and religious scholars of all faiths have been invited for the event, which is likely to see huge public turnout.

MIM criticizes KCR Circar: Chatanpally encounter

0

MIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi is known for his friendly relations with the TRS government. He has secret electoral understandings with KCR. There is no instance of MIM attacking TRS on any issue. But now, Asaduddin has expressed his objection to the Chatanpally encounter. This comes at a time when the whole country and all sections of Telangana society hailed the police action. Even Telangana Minister Srinivasa Yadav has spoken in praise of KCR’s bold decision. He even said that KCR silenced all his critics with one single answer which is encounter.

Asaduddin tweeted that as a policy, he opposed encounters and that he believes in the due process of law. He demanded a magisterial enquiry into the whole encounter incident. The facts should be brought out behind the encounter killing of the four accused persons while in police custody.

MIM comments came as a big surprise in Telangana political circles. Asaduddin may be playing to the sentiments of his vote bank. One of the encountered persons is a minority candidate.

The Pro-tem Speaker performs the responsibilities of office of the Speaker for Telangana Assembly till the election of the Speaker. After assuming charge as chief minister for the second term, K Chandrashekhar Rao is continuing the government with one minister only i.e. Mahamood Ali as home minister.

Telangana Assembly session is scheduled to be held during January 17-20 for four days. On Janauary 20, the Assembly will pass a resolution thanking the Governor’s speech.

It’s become a point of discussion in the political corridor about the candidate selection for the Speaker position. Speculation is more on Speaker position rather than who’ll become ministers. It may be recalled that several senior MLAs and former ministers are chary of Speaker’s position as no Speaker won in successive elections. Several MLAs met KCR and TRS working president KT Rama Rao and requested them not to consider their candidatures for Speaker position.

Meanwhile, Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi has thanked the chief minister KCR for choosing his party MLA from Charminar constituency. Owaisi in a tweet expressed his gratitude to KCR and congratulated Khan, who won six times in Assembly elections.

“Mumtaz Ahmad Khan, six times MLA of Charminar from MIM will be made Pro-tem Speaker of Telangana Assembly. I am thankful to @TelanganaCMO KCR sahib,” said Owaisi in his tweet.

Former Speaker Sirikonda Madusudhana Chary has the distinction of the becoming the first Speaker of the newly created Telangana state. Chary couldn’t retain his seat from Bhupalapally constituency as he lost to the Congress candidate Gandra Venkat Ramana Reddy in the recently held Assembly elections.

Four get 10 years imprisonment for attacking Owaisi

0

A court here on Thursday sentenced four accused to 10 years imprisonment for the 2011 attack on AIMIM legislator Akbaruddin Owaisi.

The Seventh Additional Metropolitan Sessions Court, however, acquitted 10 others including prime accused Mohammed Bin Omar Yafai alias Mohammed Pahelwan.

Four — Mohammed Bin Saleh Wahlan, Abdullah Bin Yonus Yafai, Awad Bin Yonus Yafai, Hasan Bin Omer Yafai — of the 14 accused were convicted and sentenced by the court, which pronounced the judgement amid tight security at the Nampally Court Complex.

The convicts and other accused already have spent six years in jail. The accused were brought to the court from Chanchalguda jail.

Owaisi was critically injured in the attack by Mohammed Pahelwan and his family members in his Chandrayangutta assembly constituency in the Old City of Hyderabad on April 30, 2011.

One of the attackers, Ibrahim Bin Yonus Yafai, was killed when Akbaruddin’s guard opened fire to save him.

Akbaruddin Owaisi, younger brother of AIMIM President and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi, is the floor leader of the party in the Telangana assembly.

Owaisi questions ‘double standards’ on death for rape

0

AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Friday questioned the “double standards” in awarding death penalty to rapists, especially when it came to communal riots.

Reacting to a Bombay High Court judgment upholding life sentence to 11 convicts in Bilkis Bano case, he said the Modi government should appeal in the Supreme Court seeking death sentence.

The MP said the convicts not only raped Bilkis Bano, who was pregnant, but also murdered her young daughter, sister, mother and 11 other family members.

“I think it’s a fit case for awarding death penalty to the rapists,” the President of All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) told reporters.

Owaisi said while he respected the High Court judgment, he wanted to know why there were “double standards” in giving capital punishment.

Owaisi said he also respected the court order awarding death penalty to Yakub Memon although everyone knew that he had no direct or indirect involvement in the 1993 Mumbai blasts but the court found circumstantial evidence against him.

He recalled that Narendra Modi was the Chief Minister of Gujarat when Bilkis Bano was raped and her family members were killed.

He said since his government did not conduct a proper inquiry, the Supreme Court handed over the case to the CBI.

“I want to know from the Modi government which talks about rights of Muslim women and the need to do justice to them, whether it will ask the CBI to file an appeal in the Supreme Court against the Bombay High Court judgment so that the convicts get death penalty,” he said.
