Kudi Yedamaithe: Binge-watch this Weekend

U-Turn director Pawan Kumar is back with one more interesting thriller Kudi Yedamaithe, a web series that is now streaming on Aha. Amala Paul and Rahul Vijay played the lead roles. People Media Factory in association with Pawan Kumar Studios produced Kudi Yedamaithe. Here is the review of Kudi Yedamaithe:

Story:

Kudi Yedamaithe is the story of Durga (Amala Paul) and Aadi (Rahul Vijay) who are two different people coming from different backgrounds. Durga works as a CI in Khairatabad police station and Aadi works as a delivery boy and he aspires to turn an actor. The duo gets struck on the day February 29th and they get some weird dreams again and again. A series of crimes happen in the city at the same time and the rest of Kudi Yedamaithe is all about how the crimes are connected to the dreams. Watch the web series to know about the real story.

Analysis:

Pawan Kumar comes up with one more interesting plot and his narration is decent. The biggest problem with Kudi Yedamaithe is that some of the episodes are repeated again and again. The rest of the show is equally engaging and intriguing. The suspense is kept alive and the narration looks thrilling most of the times. There are moments at which Kudi Yedamaithe turns boring but the director interlinked all the sub-plots at the right time without leaving anything behind.

The crime angle is well narrated and the climax portions are good. A single-day episode is narrated multiple times which may not impress the audience. The investigation episodes should have been better. The first three episodes and the last three episodes are good and the rest of the episodes (4th and 5th) are quite boring and slow-paced. Kudi Yedamaithe is like a mixed bag as it has thrilling moments and is boring at times.

Performances:

Amala Paul plays a cop who has a modern girl inside her. She suffers from a drinking problem. She does her part with perfection and delivered her best throughout. Amala Paul is the only star of the show. Rahul Vijay is the show stealer of Kudi Yedamaithe. He looks simple but carries the most of the show on his shoulders. He is expressive and does his part well. All the other actors do not have much screen presence and prominence. The major portion of Kudi Yedamaithe revolves around the roles of Rahul Vijay and Amala Paul.

Technical Aspects:

Pawan Kumar comes up with one more interesting idea and he is partially successful. Kudi Yedamaithe has enough scope to explore. The screenplay is decent and so are the dialogues. The cinematography work stands out in this thriller as most of the web series happens in night effect. The background score is matching. The production values make Kudi Yedamaithe a grand product. Pawan Kumar tries his best to keep the audience engaging but there are enough flaws too. On the whole, Kudi Yedamaithe is a mixed bag.

Verdict:

Kudi Yedamaithe can be given a watch this weekend because of the interesting premise and the thrills. On Flipside , Some of the episodes are repetitive and of no impact.

Amala Paul: Working on separating private life from work life

1

Actress Amala Paul started her acting career at 17. Ever since, she has proved her mettle in Tamil and Malayalam films. Nearly 12 years into the profession, as she gears up for the release of her Telugu web series “Kudi Yedamaithe”, she reflects back on her journey and feels it is about time she separated her personal and professional lives.

“I am what I am. I came into the industry when I was 17 and whatever I have gone through personally reflected in my work and vice versa. I cannot take one out of the other or maybe I didn’t know the art of separating the two. I can say that about myself until 2019,” she tells IANS.

Amala continues: “But 2020 has been a very enlightening year for me. When I was going through my father’s death in a very conscious way, it was a very introspective phase for me. I had this realisation that I felt very naked. I felt like an open book. I had this realisation that I don’t have anything as my own, as my private life and everything was out there. I felt like my life has been misinterpreted beyond anything I could have done.”

Having spent over a decade in the film industry, Amala, who was earlier married to director AL Vijay, has learnt how to deal with the constant interest people have in her personal life.

“When I look back, I do feel bad about it but I also have the wisdom to understand that I don’t have any control over these things, and when I don’t have control over these things, I can just gracefully move ahead in life. I also understand that this is part and parcel of this job and there is a social responsibility that I have. It’s not just me, that is how some things are the way it is,” she says.

“I realised I have a choice I didn’t know about earlier. Now, I am working on separating my private life from my work life. That is the art that I am practicing and I really want to. Before I never felt it and I was quite open about what was happening in my life. Now, I realise that may be the spirit in which I was sharing that or my intention was not received as it was,” she adds.

“Everyone is in different stages of their lives and I was hoping that they can understand how I am perceiving it. I have reached that point in my life where I am comfortable not sharing so much,” says the actress, who has also shot for a Hindi web series but is awaiting its release.

Amala will be seen in the Telugu series “Kudi Yedamaithe”, in which she plays the role of a cop named Durga.

The actress says she has played the character effortlessly as opposed to being very harsh on herself like in earlier times.

“An interesting thing about this project for me is that, usually I have a tendency to overprepare. I experiment too much with my roles and that has been draining me. So, with this character I have been thinking how I can make this character effortless,” she says.

“During last year’s lockdown, a lot of introspection happened. I just wanted to intuitively follow the artiste in me. I knew Durga and there were many script reading sessions. I knew her job, her economical condition. I knew I was going to meet her. I just wanted to organically meet the character without creating it in my head and it turned out to be beautiful,” says the actress about her role in the Aha original series.

Lot of responsibility with ‘VIP-2’, says Soundarya Rajinikanth

0

Director Soundarya Rajinikanth, who is helming the second installment of the popular film “Velaiilla Pattadhari”, says there was a lot of responsibility that came with taking on the project.

“Velaiilla Pattadhari”, which released in 2014, was directed by Velraj.

“I think there was a lot of responsibility that came taking on this project. The part one was a huge success so I think when it comes to a sequel, they will expect the elements of part one to be there and continuing in part two as well,” Soundarya told IANS in a group interaction here, while promoting “VIP-2”.

“I don’t think there is pressure, but I understood there is responsibility,” she added.

Soundarya had to direct a Tamil romantic-comedy film before “VIP-2”.

Asked if the project was shelved because of “VIP-2”, she said: “For various reasons… That was a wonderful script but for some reasons it didn’t take off the way I expected it. I think everything happens for a reason and I am very happy with the way things have panned out.”

“VIP-2” is bilingual film and stars Dhanush, Amala Paul, Vivek, Saranya Ponvannan and Samuthirakani returning from the first film. The new addition to the cast is Bollywood actress Kajol.

“I don’t think anyone else came to our mind but Kajol madam. I think we are so happy as a team that we have taken her back to south after a gap of 20 years and the character she plays is a very stylish, independent, self-made and confident woman. I think that’s just madam… That’s the way she is,” Soundarya said.

She added that Kajol did not have to do anything extra for the film. She just had to be herself on screen.
