Amit Shah breaks silence on son’s business, rejects money laundering

0

Breaking his silence, BJP President Amit Shah on Friday rejected allegations of money laundering against his son Jay, whose company had reportedly recorded an extraordinary spike in business after the BJP came to power at the Centre, and asserted that it had not done any business with the government nor taken any kickbacks.

He also said that unlike the Congress, which had faced many corruption charges in the past, his son has shown courage to file a civil and criminal defamation suit on the allegations levelled against him and “invited a probe against himself” by this step.

“There is no money laundering involved in Jay’s company. This company is completely in commodity business, where turnover is more while the profit is less. We have exported bajra, corn and rice while coriander was imported. And after doing a turnover of Rs 80 crore, they don’t tell how much they made profit,” Amit Shah said at an “India Today” event “Gujarat Panchayat” here.

Answering questions, he said that after making a turnover of Rs 80 crore, Jay made a loss of Rs 1.5 crore. “Where has money laundering been done? All the transactions happened through cheques and banks,” he said.

Asked about Jay Shah filing a defamation suit against the publication, Shah said: “Before answering your question I would like to ask you one thing. After Independence, how many corruption charges have been made against the Congress?

“Please understand this is not corruption. Many allegations of corruption were made against the Congress. Did it ever file a civil suit or defamation suit? No. Why they lacked such courage? Today Jay has filed a defamation as well as civil suit and is demanding a probe himself. Those who have the evidence can submit it to the court, and then the court will decide,” the BJP President said.

He said: “We have ourselves invited a probe and on the company issue I want to clarify that it has not done business with the government of even Re 1 nor taken any government land or tender. Neither has it received kickbacks as in the case of Bofors.”

When asked about Jay’s company securing unsecured loans, Shah said it was not unsecured loans. “It was a line of credit,” he added.

Why is PM Modi silent on Jay Shah controversy, asks Congress

0

The Congress on Thursday questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s silence on the allegations of a scam against BJP president Amit Shah’s son, and demanded that Shah step down in order to facilitate a probe.

Addressing a press conference in Panaji at the party state headquarters All India Congress Committee spokesperson Priyanka Chaturvedi also said that the functioning of Jay Shah co-owned company, Temple Enterprise Pvt. Ltd allegedly mirrored the standard operating procedure of a shell company and must be investigated as part of the Prime Minister’s campaign against shell companies.

“For the sake of probity, for the sake of what Modi stood for. If there is nothing to hide, what stops Amit Shah from stepping down and allowing a probe to happen; a probe which will perhaps clear his son. But we must always remember, Caesar’s wife should be above suspicion,” Chaturvedi told reporters.

“Why is it that the Prime Minister is protecting him? What stops the PM from seeking accountability from a person he is closest to? And someone who perhaps compromises his entire branding of zero tolerance to corruption,” she said.

“Why, when the Prime Minister is saying he is running after the shell companies and shutting down shell companies, isn’t this a standard operating procedure of a shell company and why should not that come under investigation?” she also said, accusing the central government of running away from an investigation.

An online portal alleged that Jay Shah’s company’s turnover grew from Rs 50,000 to Rs 80.5 crore in a 2015-16, within one year, after obtaining an unsecured loan from a non banking financial institution.

What will happen if Harish Rao joins BJP?

0

Bhartiya Janata Party is making moves to emerge as strong party to counter ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi while Telangana Congress leaders continue to fight among themselves.

Evidently BJP needs a Baahubali more than Congress to create its footprint and march into the elections. T Harish Rao swore allegiance to TRS and stated that whatever KCR says is Gospel Truth. But Harish Rao could be the Baahubali for BJP who can retaliate against his uncle KCR for sidelining him.

In the past, specifically during the Y S Rajashekar Reddy regime when TRS was undergoing crisis, speculations were rife that Harish Rao will be leaving TRS to join Congress. Also, there was buzz that, as the party lost confidence in KCR after horrible defeat in the elections, Harish Rao would be named as the TRS president.

The irrigation minister had a major part to play in several elections and has mastered the art of campaigning and picking candidates.

KTR did secure the GHMC elections which gave him more limelight. But Harish Rao who was the second-head since inception will just get free hand in elections if he joins the saffron brigade.

He is well versed with the booth level politics of TRS. Additionally, the irrigation minister worked in Congress and knows in and out about the party.

TRS Member of Parliament D Srinivas son, Aravind Dharmapuri, picked BJP and is also discussing on “Operation TRS” – by encouraging the children of TRS leaders into BJP and ensuring that they contest in 2019 elections.

If Harish Rao’s brain is added to ‘Operation TRS’, BJP will become unbeatable. Narendra Modi has cemented his image as a the tallest leader in the country and his charisma is not going to fade anytime soon.

In this backdrop, if mastermind Amit Shah who is targeting 350+ seats in 2019 elections shakes hand with another mastermind Harish Rao, it will weaken TRS at its roots.

KCR meets Modi, seeks increase in assembly seats

0

Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday in New Delhi. The CM discussed important issues related to the state with the PM. One of the central point of the discussion was to increase the assembly seats in the state.

It may be noted that the bill regarding delimitation of constituencies in the Telugu speaking states was not in the agenda for Monsoon sessions of Parliament. Consequently, both the CMs of the AP and TS are lobbying for increasing the number of seats.

Rajnath Singh on Tuesday informed the CMs individually that the approval of BJP President Amit Shah and PM Modi is required to go ahead with the delimitation.

KCR and Modi also discussed about protected lands and funds for backward areas.

Earlier in the day the TRS supremo met NDA Vice Presidential nominee Venkaiah Naidu. He affirmed that Venkaiah will win the elections and congratulated him.

KCR also met Union Minister Arun Jaitley and discussed on issues related to the state, economy and defence. MPs Jitender Reddy, Vinod and advisor Rajiv Sharma were present during the meeting.

BJP is doing better in TDP government, claims Shah

0

Vijayawada: BJP national president Amit Shah had claimed that his party Ministers in the Telugu Desam government in AP were doing better services. Though he did not compare the BJP Minister’s performance with the TDP Ministers, Shah claimed that one of the two BJP Ministers in AP Cabinet, had received national and international appreciation. He patted AP Minister for Health, Kamineni Srinivas of the BJP, for receiving prestigious awards for the Ministry in the State.

Amit Shah, addressed the party booth level workers here on Thursday saw a good beginning for the BJP in Andhra Pradesh. He claimed that Vijayawada, the land of victory, will give greater victory for BJP in the State soon. He wanted every household in the State to celebrate the next visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the State. He wanted the party leaders and the people to celebrate the visit with lights, fireworks and colours as Modi’s government had given the funds and the projects which were not received after Independence.

The BJP chief claimed that the NDA government had given Rs 1.75 lakh crore to the State in the last three years and had given 11 Central Institutions besides taking up total funding of the Polavaram Porject. Referring to the demand for special category status, Amit Shah said that the BJP-led government at the Center had given equal benefits through Special Package. He said that the special category status was not possible as the 14th Finance Commission had recommended against it and wanted the people to understand the difficulties.

Though some of the BJP activists displayed placards saying “Leave TDP – Save BJP”, Amit Shah did not respond to the slogan. He opted to be silent on the alliance with the TDP leaving the issue for the leaders to keep guessing.

Amit Shah, Chandrababu discuss alliance, presidential poll

BJP President Amit Shah met Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu here on Thursday.

After winding up three-day visit to Telangana, Shah reached here along with Naidu from Hyderabad in the same flight. They were accompanied by central ministers M. Venkaiah Naidu and Y.S. Chowdary.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief later met the Telugu Desam Party president over lunch at Naidu’s residence. Central ministers Venkaiah Naidu, Suresh Prabhu and Y.S. Chowdary, Naidu’s son Nara Lokesh and TDP’s Andhra Pradesh unit President Kala Venkat Rao were also present during the meeting, which lasted for more than an hour.

According to sources in the TDP, they discussed the political developments, the alliance between the two parties and the ensuing presidential election.

Naidu urged Amit Shah to ensure that the Centre takes early steps to fulfill all the commitments made in Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act.

Earlier, the BJP’s Andhra Pradesh unit leaders met Shah and discussed strengthening of the party in the state and the relations with TDP.

The BJP chief is scheduled to address a public meeting in Vijayawada Thursday evening as part of the party’s efforts to expand base in the state.

Shah’s visit comes a few days after the relations between the two allies turned somewhat strained when some TDP leaders criticised the BJP for allowing YSR Congress Party President Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The TDP is a partner in BJP-led NDA government at the Centre while the BJP is an ally of the TDP in the ruling coalition in Andhra Pradesh.

During his visit to Telangana, Shah hinted that the alliance will continue in Andhra Pradesh but the BJP may go alone in Telangana in 2019 elections.

Interestingly, Naidu was in Hyderabad on Wednesday to address the annual conclave of the TDP’s Telangana unit while at the same time Amit Shah addressed a meeting of BJP workers in Hyderabad, asking them to gear up to bring the party to power in the state.

KCR Seeks Amit Shah’s Apology Over Comments On Central Funds

Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on Wednesday demanded an apology from BJP president Amit Shah for his remarks on the quantum of funds given to the TRS-ruled state by the Centre.

Rao offered to quit the chief minister’s post if the figures provided by Shah were proved to be correct.

Questioning the veracity of the figures provided by Shah on the funds given to Telangana, Rao reeled out statistics on the amounts for various schemes the state had received from the BJP-led NDA government.

Shah, who was on a visit to Nalgonda district, in a press conference on Tuesday said the state had been given an additional amount of Rs 20,000 crore annually under various heads by the NDA government.

Telangana came into existence on June 2, 2014.

“Those remarks are baseless. There is a limit for patience and tolerance whether it is Amit Shah or any Shah, for KCR (as the CM is popularly called) Telangana is Badshah.

“We will not forgive anyone who tries to insult Telangana. I demand that Shah apologise to the people of Telangana for his false remarks,” he said.

“These are unwarranted comments from a person who heads a party that rules this country,” the CM said.
“Such statements are bound to hamper the progress of Telangana…KCR will never keep silent. I hope wisdom will prevail on him and he will set himself right,” Rao, slamming the BJP chief.

Rao said Telangana has received Rs 67,390 crore under tax devolution and various central schemes till date from the Centre as its due share.

On the other hand, the state has contributed over Rs 1 lakh crore during the past three years to the central exchequer on account of Income Tax, Central Excise and Service tax collections, he said.

He also disagreed with Shah’s observation that the TRS government had “failed” to implement the Centre’s schemes at the grassroot level. Such comments would hamper investments in Telangana, he said.
“Shah says Telangana additionally gets Rs 20,000 crore annually (from the Centre). Mr Amit Shah should know what he is talking about. If figures given by me are wrong, I am ready to resign as chief minister,” Rao asserted.

He advised Shah not to resort to “cheap political gimmicks” by falsifying facts and figures.
Rao, however, said he had great respect for Prime Minister Naredra Modi for running a “corruption-free” government at the Centre.

Replying to a query, he said his party TRS has not yet drawn its strategy for the upcoming presidential polls.

On Shah having lunch at SC colonies during his three-day visit to Nalgonda, Rao alleged the food the BJP leader had was prepared somewhere else and not at the residence of Dalits.

“We were informed that the members of Dalit community (in Theratpally village where Shah had lunch in SC colonies) expressed their displeasure over the issue,” Rao claimed.

Mocking the BJP’s claims that it would form the government in Telangana in the coming days, Rao said as per his latest survey the BJP would not be able retain even its present five seats in the Assembly.

On shifting of the state secretariat, Rao said there was proposal to construct one at Bison Polo Ground in Secunderabad, not at the historic Parade Grounds here, as reported in a section of media.

BJP expanding across the country, says Amit Shah

0

BJP national President Amit Shah on Wednesday said the party was expanding across the country but felt that it has to become strong in south India.

Addressing a meeting of party workers here to wind up his three-day visit to Telangana, he exuded confidence that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will form the government in Telangana in the same way as it has done in many states during the last three years.

Stating that BJP is expanding under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he said while the party was not against anybody, it had every right to expand.

Noting BJP formed governments in Maharashtra, Haryana, Jharkhand, Jammu and Kashmir, Assam, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Goa and Manipur and increased its vote share in Bihar, Delhi Kerala, West Bengal, Odisha and Tripura, he asked the party workers to work hard to reach every household in the state to inform people about the achievements of Modi government and to spread his message.

Shah said his Telangana visit was part of the nation-wide campaign launched by BJP for expansion. Under this year-long campaign, four lakh BJP workers will run door-to-door campaign in 8.5 lakh booths to tell them about the achievements of Modi government.

The BJP chief said this ‘yatra’ was for expansion of the ideology for which Jan Sangh was formed and later BJP came into existence.

He said that Jan Sangh made a beginning with just 10 members and today BJP has become the world’s biggest party with 11 crore members.

Shah said BJP has 1,387 legislators in the country, governments in 13 states and with 330 MPs is the biggest party in Parliament.

Claiming that Modi government did in three years what the previous governments could not in 70 years, he said: “Today we can proudly that under Modi’s leadership India has emerged as the fastest growing economy in the world.”

Shah said he stood by his statement that the Centre gave Rs 1 lakh crore additional funds to Telangana in three years. He said while the Centre had done no favour to people of Telangana, the BJP had every right to say what the state was getting in the past and what it is getting now.

Shah’s claim on central funds blatant lie: Telangana CM

0

Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Wednesday dubbed as a “blatant lie” BJP President Amit Shah’s comment that the Centre was providing additional funds of Rs 20,000 crore to the state every year.

Rao said he challenged Shah to prove that even Rs 200 crore of additional funds were provided to the state.

He said if the BJP leader could prove so, he was ready to resign as Chief Minister.

“Whatever he said in the past three days is nothing but blatant lies. He should apologise to the people of Telangana,” Rao told the media here.

The Chief Minister said the Centre earned Rs 50,013 crore in taxes from Telangana during 2016-17 while it gave only Rs 24,561 crore under all central schemes.

He said Shah should know that it is Telangana which gave Rs 25,452 crore to the Centre.

Rao, President of the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), said Shah was trying to spread “misinformation about the newly created state”.

The TRS chief said Shah was trying to damage the state’s progress for cheap politics. He said it was unbecoming of the head of a ruling party at the Centre to make such comments.

KCR, as Rao is popularly known, said had Shah made personal comments against him, he would not have reacted but since he tried to spread misinformation about Telangana, he (Rao) decided to respond.

“Whether the BJP is in power or not at the Centre, the state will get whatever it has to get. Like other states, Telangana also got funds from the Centre but it did not get even one rupee more,” he said.

He also took exception to Shah’s comments that his government had failed to implement welfare schemes.

The Chief Minister said Telangana is one of the only six-seven states that were contributing to national growth and that Telangana is number one in implementing welfare schemes.

Telangana should be southern gateway for BJP: Amit Shah

0

BJP chief Amit Shah on Tuesday said Telangana should become the gateway for the party in south India.

Addressing a public meeting at Peddadevulapalli village in Nalgonda district on the second day of his three-day visit, he exuded confidence that the BJP will form the government in Telangana in 2019.

Shah said Telangana should become an important part of the development process initiated under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“The way Telangana unit of BJP is working for last two years, visiting every village to strengthen the party, I am confident that in 2019 BJP will form the government in Telangana,” he said.

Continuing his attack on the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) government, he said the schemes launched by the Modi government for the welfare of various sections of people had not reached the people in the state.

Referring to his interaction with villagers, the BJP chief said people were facing problems due to drinking water shortage and widows and elderly persons were not getting pension.

He said the farmers were suffering as their fields were being destroyed by the chemical factories.

Shah said the Modi government was standing like a rock whenever challenges were arising for the country’s security. He claimed that the government boosted the morale of the armed forces by carrying out surgical strikes.

The BJP national president earlier visited Chinna Madaram village and lauded the initiatives taken by the woman sarpanch for implementation of various schemes of the central government.

Stating that the Modi government launched 107 schemes for the welfare of the poor, women, youth and other sections, Shah said if the schemes were properly implemented at the grassroots they could transform people’s lives.

Union Minister Bandaru Dattatreya, BJP state president K. Laxman and other leaders accompanied Amit Shah.

Venakaih Naidu bats for second term to Modi

0

Vijayawada: Union Minister and senior BJP leader M Venkaiah Naidu launched campaign to get second term for Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In tune with BJP chief Amit Shah who is currently on a 95-day long tour across the country to prepare the party for the 2019 elections, Venkaiah Naidu stressed the need to give another term for Modi to transform and strengthen India in the world.

Venkaiah Naidu said that several countries in the world were looking towards India after Modi became Prime Minister. The country was marching towards growth on all fronts with the slogan of Making of Developed India (MODI), he asserted. The revolutionary decisions taken by Modi in the last three and a half years have already transformed the country, he said and added that the Modi government is clean from corruption and scandals which were order of the day during the Congress-led UPA government.

Venkaiah Naidu said that the BJP had secured second place in 120 Lok Sabha Constituencies during the 2014 elections. Amit Shah was now touring these constituencies to strengthen the party and win them in the next round of elections. He further added that the BJP was trying to expand its base in Andhra Pradesh despite being an alliance partner in the State with the ruling TDP. The party would make use of every hour for the next two years and strengthen its base before reviewing the alliance with the TDP, if required.

The Union Minister justified Prime Minister Modi’s meeting with YSR Congress president Jaganmohan Reddy and said that there was nothing to find fault with it. He took exception to the TDP leaders criticizing Prime Minister for the meeting and said that those who have criticized Modi have no political knowledge and experience.
