Hope Rs 1,500 cr films augur well for industry: ‘Baahubali’ producer

    0

Producer Shobu Yarlagadda, the man behind the “Baahubali” film franchise, on Monday hoped the success of “Baahubali 2: The Conclusion” and “Dangal”, which has opened newer markets, works in favour of the industry.

“Two movies have done back to back business of Rs 1,500 crore worldwide, opening up new markets! This hopefully augurs well for our industry,” Shobu tweeted.

Both “Dangal” and “Baahubali 2” have minted over Rs 1,500 crore and are continuing their golden run at the box office.

Although “Dangal” hit Indian screens last year, it released in China earlier this month, stirring up a box office storm.

Quoting a line from Paulo Coelho’s “The Alchemist”, he said: “Everything that happens once can never happen again. But everything that happens twice will surely happen a third time.”

Shobu could be indirectly talking about the much awaited superstar Rajinikanth’s “2.o”, which is reportedly being made on a lavish budget of over Rs 400 crore.

Dangal to Overtake Baahubali 2 in A Day or Two

With its unbelievable performance at China box office, Dangal is shrinking the gap between its worldwide gross and that of ‘Baahubali 2’ at jet speed. As of now, Dangal is lagging behind the SS Rajamouli directorial by only around 40 crore. Going by the amount of moolah the Aamir Khan starrer is raking in China with each passing day, the wrestling drama will overpower ‘Baahubali 2’ in a day or two at the most.

Released in four languages – Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam across the world, Baahubali 2 collected Rs 1538 crore gross (1256 crore form India and the rest 282 crore from overseas) since its release on April 28.

On the other hand, by collecting an unprecedented $112 million (721 crore) in the 17 days since its release in China alone, Dangal took its worldwide cumulative to Rs 1501 crore. If we leave Chinese collections of Dangal, it has collected only Rs 745 crore from rest of the world including India. This figure is less than even half of Baahubali 2’s worldwide gross.

In the end, the worldwide gross is the only thing that matters to movie buffs and Dangal is all set to beat ‘Baahubali 2’ at most by Tuesday. Baahubali 2 will no more be the ‘No.1 Indian blockbuster’ unless it performs well in China when the film hits screens there in a few months.

Some severe action will be taken on the pirates informed the cops. Eradicating piracy is not in one’s hand and it can be achieved through collective effort”.

Baahubali 2 eyeing two major milestones this weekend

    0

In less than three weeks, Baahubali 2 has emerged as the highest grossing film in Telugu, Tamil and Hindi. With a phenomenal box office run in all territories, the epic war drama has set a huge benchmark for upcoming films. Among the many milestones surpassed by film, the most prominent one is that the film launched the first ever 1000 Crore club in India and the first $ 15M club in overseas.

Now, the film is eyeing to set up two more major milestones by the end of this weekend. Firstly, Baahubali 2 is going to surpass the 1500 Crores gross worldwide. Secondly, the film is all set to hit $ 20 M mark in overseas. Both these records will be truly overwhelming for the trade circles who are already seeing good profits in all areas.

Despite new releases in Hindi and Telugu, the film is continuing to dominate the box office with decent revenues.

Don’t want the world of ‘Baahubali’ to end: Rajamouli Interview

He’s the man of the moment in Indian cinema. Filmmaker S.S Rajamouli, basking in the phenomenal success of “Baahubali 2: The Conclusion”, believes the world of “Baahubali” goes beyond films and there is so much more to explore. So, he doesn’t want it to end.

As the blockbuster film franchise — which has set new box office records for Indian films — comes to an end, audiences can still continue rooting for the characters from the world of “Baahubali” via comics, animation series and novels.

“We created the world of ‘Baahubali’ for our actors to understand their character better. When we look at Baahubali and Bhallaladeva, the warring brothers, what we see in the film is just a minor part of their lives. In the ‘Baahubali’ universe, there is so much more worth knowing about them. The same applies to other characters too,” Rajamouli told IANS.

With child-like enthusiasm, he added: “The world of ‘Baahubali’ is so fascinating. I wish it doesn’t end. It shouldn’t end and I will pray for it.”

It’s the urge to tell those stories which couldn’t be included in the films, that persuaded Rajamouli and his team to explore other mediums.

“There are backstories for each character in the world of ‘Baahubali’… Some really powerful scenes which needed to be told. Unfortunately, film medium has its own limitation and not all stories work very well in it. The story of Sivagami, for instance, is so powerful and exhaustive, we realised it will work wonders as a novel,” Rajamouli explained.

Sivagami’s story has been turned into a three-part novel. “The Rise of Sivagami” by Anand Neelakantan is the first book in the trilogy.

Talking about the “Baahubali” universe being expanded into an animation series titled “Baahubali: The Lost Legends”, Rajamouli said he’s a big fan of the medium.

“I’m a huge fan of Disney’s films. Lately, I have been fascinated by 3D animation and I’m glad we could visualise ‘Baahubali’ universe through this medium. Even though it doesn’t cater to a larger audience as cinema, it’s widely popular and fast catching up in India,” he said, taking pride in partnering with Graphic India and Amazon Prime Video for this initiative.

The second episode from “Baahubali: The Lost Legends” will be unveiled on Friday on Amazon Prime.

Asked if he would like to direct an animation film outside the world of “Baahubali”, Rajamouli said: “As exciting as the idea sounds, it took us five years to take ‘Baahubali’ to the audience. It’s going to be a very time-consuming process and I don’t think I can afford so much time on a project again.”

Talking about the golden run of “Baahubali 2” at the ticket window, Rajamouli said he is still “in a state of daze”.

“I’m going to be honest and tell you that we wanted this kind of success. We strove hard and longed for it. When we achieved it, it’s so hard to believe that I still cannot come to terms with this overwhelming feeling. It’s tough to believe if this success is even real,” he said.

Will this success mean he will aspire to make something bigger next?

“My long-time desire is to make a film on Mahabharat. You can imagine the scale on which it has to be made and it will be beyond anybody’s imagination. It’s been on my mind for quite long but I don’t know yet when it will happen.”

Does he also feel that films such as “Sanghamitra” and Mohanlal’s “Randamoozham”, to be made on a lavish budget, are merely imitating the path taken by “Baahubali”?

“I think ‘Baahubali’ has proven there is a market. There will be both kinds of films. The first kind of films will be backed by a fantastic script and a visionary director. There will also be other type of films that will be made because there is market,” he added.

‘Baahubali 2’ copy was made in a Bihar theatre

    0

A theatre in Begusarai district of Bihar was used to make a high-definition copy of “Baahubali 2: The Conclusion”, and the same was used by a piracy gang to extort money from producers of the blockbuster, the Hyderabad police said.

The police have busted the Delhi-based inter-state movie piracy gang with the arrest of six persons, including Divakar Kumar, owner of Veena Cinema Hall at Tivhra in Begusarai.

Others who have been arrested are Rahul Mehta, Jitender Kumar Mehta, Taufiq, Md Ali, all from Delhi and Chandan from Bihar. Another accused from Bihar, Monu, is missing and on the run.

The accused will be presented before a court here on Wednesday.

Interestingly, Jitender and Toufiq were also arrested in 2015 for making a pirated copy of “Baahubali: The Beginning”, the first movie in the successful franchise.

While Rahul Mehta, who was in Hyderabad to extort money from the “Baahubali” production banner Arka Mediaworks Entertainment Ltd, was arrested, others were nabbed in Delhi and Bihar and brought to Hyderabad on transit warrant.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central Crime Station) Avinash Mohanty, Arka representative Prasad Devineni had lodged a complaint on April 29 that they received a call from someone posing as film anti-piracy activist, demanding Rs 15 lakh.

The caller told the firm that he has a pirated copy and warned that if the money was not paid, he would upload it on internet.

However, instead of arresting the caller by tracking his phone, the police decided to go for a thorough probe to reach the roots of the piracy racket. On their advise, the production firm engaged the caller in a dialogue and sought proof of the pirated copy. He sent a sample video and it turned out to be high-definition copy of the movie.

The police, with the help of experts, found that the film was copied from a theatre in Begusarai, breaching satellite technology security.

While Arka representatives continued dialogue with Rahul Mehta by inviting him to Hyderabad, the police continued their probe and arrested the theatre owner. However, Monu, a former employee of one of the satellite broadcasters of the movie who copied the movie, managed to escape.

The police arrested Rahul in Hyderabad and on the basis of his information nabbed other members of the gang in Delhi.

‘Baahubali’ stands for no guts, no glory: SRK

    0

Superstar Shah Rukh Khan, who has always stressed on the importance of technology in taking Indian cinema to greater heights, says the success of a movie like “Baahubali” is an example of how there’s no glory without guts.

The actor, who has produced films under the Red Chillies Entertainments banner, is yet to see “Baahubali 2: The Conclusion”, which has taken the Indian box office by storm.

“I saw ‘Baahubali’ part one. Unfortunately, I have not seen part two yet. It’s an extremely inspiring film and I think it holds true for part two as well.

“Not just the success with numbers but the vision, just the thought… No guts, no glory… and ‘Baahubali’ stands for that,” Shah Rukh told IANS as part of an email interview done regarding the success of his TED Talk in Vancouver.

“Technology, of course, will always be a huge part of cinema. I believe that. I would never discount the fact that other kinds of films can also be made. They’re fantastic and beautiful… Before technology came in, we still made wonderful films.

“But if you want to create that big cinema and that big dream to sell to a big number of people, you have to have guts to take that storytelling on and say it in the biggest, nicest, boldest way possible. ‘Baahubali stands for that,” added the 51-year-old.

He even pointed out the need for such a vision.

“It’s not just the success of ‘Baahubali’, but the fact that there was someone making ‘Baahubali’ part one. Mr S.S. Rajamouli is always inspirational… Whichever film he’ll make. And there are some other directors, producers also who do that.

“It’s heartening and encourages every filmmaker. Me too,” Shah Rukh said.

“Baahubali 2: The Conclusion” has become the highest grossing Indian film, and its reception has been stupendous in international markets as well, leading it to enter the Rs 1000 crore mark worldwide.

OS box office report : Baahubali 2 stays strong, Radha disappoints

Baahubali 2 is continuing its strong hold at the overseas box office even after completing its second week. After embarking on a record setting openings on April 28th, the SS Rajamouli directional went on to broke several box office records in the first two weeks. The film has already emerged as the highest grossing Indian film in overseas and set a huge benchmark for upcoming biggies.

In its third weekend, Baahubali 2 raked in decent revenues and took the total past $ 19 M mark by the end of Sunday in US. After collecting $ 363 K on Friday and $ 679 K on Saturday, the magnum opus managed to nab $ 471K on Sunday ( still counting). The film is likely to touch the $ 20 M in its full run.

Sharwanand’s Radha which opened in theatres last Friday disappointed the trade circles. The entertaining cop drama managed to collect $ 100 K ( approx) in the first weekend. The film was traded for 1.5 Crores in overseas and it is likely to recover only the expenses. Despite having entertaining elements, the film failed to impress the audience due to its monotonous story line and incoherent narration.

Baahubali character was written for Prabhas, says Rajamouli

    0

Film director S.S. Rajamouli says the character of Baahubali from his hit franchise was written only for southern star Prabhas, whose performance has been lauded.

Reminiscing about the conception of “Baahubali”, Rajamouli said, “We (Prabhas and I) worked on a film 10 years before this and we have been close friends. We would chat for hours and hours together deep into the night, just not about ‘Baahubali’, but different aspects of filmmaking, the philosophy of filmmaking.”

“We strike a chord with each other, we understand each other very well and he knew that I had a burning desire to make a war film and he was game for it.”

Rajamouli said Prabhas kept himself free for over three years for the film.

“In fact, he was so much into it, when I asked for his dates for one and half year for this film, he laughed and said you can never make this film in one and half years and he kept himself free for three and half years. In the end, it took five years to make it and he was there for us,” Rajamouli said.

Prabhas was there even before the makers started writing the characters.

“I mean we took Anushka or Sivagami or Kattapa, we took the actors based on the characters that were written, but with Prabhas, the character was written for him,” he said.

“Baahubali 2: The Conclusion” has surpassed box office records in India.

    Baahubali Made Whopping 300% Profit!!

    0

Baahubali, which has become the first 1000 crore grossing Indian film in less than 10 days, is continuing it’s record breaking saga at worldwide box office.

By making more than 300 percent profit, Baahubali 2 (Hindi) has now set an almost unbreakable record in terms of Return on Investment (RoI). So far, the Rajamouli directorial has collected 375 crore from the Hindi version alone. It may be noted that the film’s acquisition cost was a mere 90 crore. The trade statistics tell us that the film made a whopping profit of 285 crore , resulting in an unbelievable profit of 317 percent.

Generally, small budget films which prove to be huge surprise money spinners, bring multifold profits. No high budget film has ever become as profitable as Baahubali did.

Baahubali 2 is currently just 12 crore short of the lifetime collections of Dangal, 387 crore. Going by the consistent pace Baahubali is progressing at box office, it is expected to dethrone the Aamir Khan starrer by today to emerge the new domestic highest grosser. The film will be decorated with more records like first 400 crore, 500 crore grosser etc. In coming few days.

Prabhas is the Biggest Action Hero: Rana

    0

Macho actor Rana Daggubati, who played the nemesis of Prabhas in ‘Baahubali’, opines that the ‘Mirchi’ actor is the biggest action star that Tollywood ever has.

During an interview, when the host asked Rana if Prabhas really is a bigger star than the three Khans of Bollywood as said by a key technician of Baahubali, Rana admitted that Prabhas is the biggest action hero that Telugu film industry ever had. Saying that he was not downplaying any actor, Rana said that Prabhas was a huge star even before Baahubali happened.

‘He has delivered a few massive blockbusters even before he took up Baahubali. Of course there is Rajamouli’s vision and producers’ courage behind making of Baahubali but the project wouldn’t have happened without Prabhas. He really stood as a pillar of strength for the film and dedicated five years of his career just believing in the project, without asking many questions. Not many stars can do what he has done,’ said Rana reasoning why Prabhas is a superstar in his opinion.

The humble Prabhas however downplayed Rana’s statement of calling him the biggest star and said that he just blabbered whatever came to his mind in over-excitement.

Prabhas to be the highest paid actor after Rajinikanth ?

    0

When Prabhas was signed up for the titular role in Baahubali series five years back, many felt that the macho actor is risking his career by dedicating such a long time span for a single project. But, his dedication has reaped rich benefits and he is now a pan Indian superstar because of the global success of Baahubali franchise. He is now the most sought after actor all over India and his popularity has fetched him a huge fan base in many territories.

As he dedicated nearly five years for the magnum opus, he charged a hefty amount as remuneration. Sources say that he was paid a whopping 25 Crores as remuneration for each part of Baahubali. Accordingly to the latest reports in media, Prabhas has hiked his remuneration after the success of Baahubali by 5 Crores and will now take home 30 Crores for his upcoming projects.

If this turns out to be true, Prabhas will be the highest paid actor in South after Rajinikanth. Superstar Mahesh Babu is being paid 25 Crores for his ongoing bilingual in Murugadoss direction. Now, Prabhas seems to have taken Mahesh Babu’s place with the grand success of Baahubali.

With the pan India fame he achieved after Baahubali, the makers of his upcoming films are looking to release them simultaneously in Hindi and Tamil along with Telugu.

Prabhas will soon commence shooting for his multilingual action drama Saaho which is being made with a staggering budget.
