Distributor of ‘Baahubali 2’ & ‘2.0’ for SPYder?

    0

After the phenomenal success of Baahubali franchise across India, especially in Hindi circuit where the second part emerged as the highest grosser of All Time, Bollywood filmmakers are keenly watching at potential South films that have pan-India appeal. Besides Superstar Rajinikanth’s ‘2,0’, Mahesh Babu’s ‘SPYder’ has been identified as one such film that has the capability of breaking the language barrier.

AA Films, the noted Bollywood distribution firm owed by Anil Thadani, which hit a goldmine by distributing Baahubali 2’s Hindi version, has now acquired the Hindi rights of Spyder, as per a leading national media house. It may be noted that the same firm had earlier came on board to distribute ‘2.0’ across North India.

For the unknown, Anil Thadani of AA Films is a business partner and close friend of Karan Johar, which itself is an explanation enough for his interest in South biggies. Karan Johar’s brand image and acumen in promoting films, coupled with Thadani’s grip on distribution side, will surely help the aforementioned Bollywood biggies in having a wider release as well as grabbing attention of Bollywood folks.

SPYder is on its way to hit screens on September 27, 2017.

Rajamouli Regrets His Comments on Sridevi

Responding to the controversy involving him and veteran diva Sridevi over Sivagami’s character in ‘Baahubali’, Rajamouli said that he regret to have talked about her on a public platform.

In an earlier interview, Rajamouli said that Sridevi couldn’t play Sivagami character as she had too many and too exorbitant demands. Reacting strongly to Rajamouli’s comment, Sridevi in another interview said that the ‘Baahubali’ director shouldn’t have spoken about her remuneration and other details on record. Besides saying that she was hurt by his comments, Sridevi denied to have made the demands allegedly divulged by Rajamouli.

In a chat with a leading national media house, the ace director said that he shouldn’t have discussed the details of approaching Sridevi and the following happenings on public platform, and that he regrets his mistake. Rajamouli went on to say that he has huge respect for Sridevi, who has been a flag-bearer of the Southern film industry in Bollywood for many years. He wished her all the best for ‘Mom’ and other upcoming projects.

When asked about Sridevi denying to have asked the high remuneration and other demands that he had divulged earlier, Rajamouli said that as both of their versions are now in front of people, they can decide whose version they want to believe.

Rajamouli’s humility bigger than success of ‘Baahubali’: Raju Mahalingam

    0

Raju Mahalingam of Lyca Productions, the makers of superstar Rajinikanth’s upcoming Tamil science-fiction action film “2.o”, finds the humility of filmmaker S.S Rajamouli much bigger than the success of “Baahubali”.

“Met Rajamouli. Realised his humility is bigger than mega success of ‘Baahubali’. Respect sir,” Mahalingam, creative head of Lyca Productions, tweeted on Saturday.

Earlier this week, Mahalingam confirmed that the post-production of “2.o”, a sequel to 2010 Tamil blockbuster “Enthiran”, is going on in full swing.

He told the media here that the film needs to be watched on more number of 3D screens.

“The film has been shot in 3D, and on a budget of Rs. 400 crore. As of now we have only 1500 3D screens in India as opposed to over 10000 in China. We hope to have more screens converted into 3D and ready for the release of ‘2.o’,” he said.

Slated for release next year, “2.o” has been directed by Shankar, who has teamed up with Rajinikanth for the third time.

The film, which will be released in Telugu and Hindi, also stars Akshay Kumar as the antagonist, Amy Jackson, Sudhanshu Pandey and Adil Hussain.

Meanwhile, the Bollywood actor is awaiting the release of “Jagga Jasoos”, which will hit the screens on July 14.

Ranbir has also co-produced “Jagga Jasoos”, helmed by Anurag Basu.

Talking about his experience as a producer, he earlier said: “I am a bad producer. I can’t get things done, can’t do man management. I was lucky that a lot of the work was taken care of by Anurag Basu. I can be happy that I can just collect awards for the film.”

    Sridevi’s Response to Rajamouli’s Allegations

Veteran actress Sridevi, who had been avoiding the question of rejecting Sivagami’s role in ‘Baahubali’, and the subsequent outburst of Rajamouli against her in an interview, has finally opened up.

‘I am being asked the same question when I attend for interviews in Mumbai, Chennai or Hyderabad. I have rejected many films in the past due to my own reasons. They went on to become big hits. I thought they were not in my destiny. Neither I or any filmmaker talked about those films ever. I don’t know why it has become an issue in the case of Baahubali,’ Sridevi said.

Clarifying on her exorbitant demands, as revealed by Rajamouli, she said, ‘It is being alleged that I have demanded Rs 8 crore remuneration, an entire floor in a star hotel and 10 flight tickets to sign Baahubali, it is completely false. I wouldn’t have acted in 300 films if I make such demands”.

‘Rajamouli is a dignified and very calm filmmaker, I have huge respect for him. I think he was misinformed on my demands by producer. Anyway, he shouldn’t have talked about me in that manner on a public platform. I was really hurt when I saw his interview,’ she concluded.

Sridevi is currently busy promoting her upcoming film ‘Mom’, which will hit screens on July 7.

Demand for ‘Baahubali’ superhero toys surprising: Designer

    0

The popular characters Amarendra Baahubali and Bhallaladeva from S.S. Rajamouli’s “Baahubali” franchise can now be brought home in the form of figurines. Uday Bhaskar, the brain behind the idea, sees them as Indian superheroes.

“We have always had toys based on popular superheroes. I wondered why not toys based on popular movie characters? They could be our own superheroes,” Uday, who is the director of a small software company in Visakhapatnam, told IANS.

“I wanted to make a toy version of Chiranjeevi, and even created a prototype before the release of his film ‘Khaidi No 150’. Unfortunately, the plan didn’t materialize. Finally, things fell in place with ‘Baahubali 2’, and I brought out toys based on the film’s two most popular characters,” he said.

While Bhaskar took care of the designing part, it was a challenge to find a manufacturer.

“I went to US and Canada, and realized it wasn’t cost effective. Finally, I decided to get them manufactured from China, where the cost of production is cheaper and there’s no compromise on quality.

The toys, manufactured by the company Lilliput Hub, were on sale from April 24. The demand has been phenomenal, says Uday.

“On the first day, we sold 200 pieces. There’s great demand from overseas, especially from places such as France and Germany. This one time, a customer from New York spoke to me for about seven hours. We are surprised with the response,” he said.

Why only two characters from the “Baahubali” world?

“Honestly, we don’t have the funds to go big. We chose these two characters because of their wide popularity,” he said, adding he is hopeful of adding more toys to this collection.

Made from PVC, the toys are available on Amazon.

Bhaskar believes there’s a market to have a toy version of every popular Indian movie character.

How about Gabbar Singh from “Sholay”?

“Why not? I would love to have all popular movie characters immortalised as figurines,” he added.

2.0 to Beat Baahubali: 15 Languages, 7000 Screens

In his bid to regain the crown of Sensational Director, which has been attributed to Rajamouli by media and movie lovers post the earth shattering success of Baahubali, director Shankar seems to be leaving no stone unturned in the case of his upcoming VFX extravaganza, ‘2.0’ starring superstar Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar.

‘2.0’ was earlier slated for release in October this year but it has recently been pushed to January 2018. Delay in post-production was said to be the reason. Now, the exact reason behind the postponing of film’s release date has come out.

Shankar had earlier planned to release ‘2.0’ in 5 languages – Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam and English. However, after witnessing how big the market of Indian films has become in the past one year, he has reportedly decided to release ‘2.0’ in as many as 15 languages. Since the process of dubbing into these many foreign languages, including Japanese, Chinese and Korean, takes about three months, the release date was pushed back.

Besides releasing in 15 langues, the makers are also planning to release the sci-fi project on the biggest and widest possible scale. The film will hit around 7000 screens in India alone, thus surpassing the record held by “Baahubali 2” which was released in 6,500 screens across the country.

These numbers already look formidable and they may go up by the time ‘2.0’ gets ready for release. At present, the post-production work of the film is in swing with the aim of January 2018 release.

‘Baahubali’ has raised hopes of regional filmmakers: Prabhas

What started off as a mere vision in filmmaker S.S. Rajamouli’s mind in 2012, has today become a phenomenon of sorts in Indian cinema. Actor Prabhas, who invested four years to the two-part “Baahubali” franchise, says he would have happily given more time to the project which he feels fortunate to have been a part of.

After the stupendous success of “Baahubali: The Beginning” in 2015, “Baahubali 2: The Conclusion” has set an unprecedented record for Indian cinema by raking in over Rs 1,500 crore (almost $180 million) worldwide — giving Prabhas a visibility he had never predicted for himself.

“I have my strong faith, respect and belief in Rajamouli sir. The fact that he believed I could play Baahubali was huge for me. If needed, I would have even given seven years of my life for Baahubali, as such characters are rare to play in a lifetime for any actor. I consider myself very fortunate and lucky for it,” Prabhas told IANS over email.

Despite success of both the parts — “Baahubali: The Beginning” and “Baahubali 2: The Conclusion” — Prabhas still feels “unfamiliar” from the project.

“When we started work on ‘Baahubali’, my sheer aim was to be able to live upto the imagination that Rajamouli sir had in mind. As an actor, my intention was to bring up Baahubali live on screen for the audiences. I never even expected in my wildest of dreams that the film would grow on to become a phenomenon of sorts. The feeling is ineffable today,” he said.

Prabhas says the pressure was more on him and the whole team of “Baahubali” when they were making the first part as it established the film right from the start.

“Everything had to be faultless in order to make ‘Baahubali’ what it is today. Reaching perfection, giving the film the kind of grandeur it has, the VFX, and the characters — all these elements set just the right environment for the film. Part two was eagerly awaited because part one really worked for the audiences,” he said.

“‘Baahubali’ has definitely increased hopes for a lot of regional film makers. After all, what I have learnt is that it only takes one ‘Baahubali’ to enter into the audiences’ hearts and cross the boundaries,” he added.

Talking about his preparations for his role, Prabhas said: “A character like Baahubali required a preparation that I had to undergo mentally and physically. From undertaking a strict routine and a lifestyle which helped me become the character physically to knowing the character’s depth and a lot more.

“What was more of a task was to maintain a consistency of the character and playing the father-son duo. To understand the emotions and sentiments from a father and son’s perspective and enacting both sides of it wasn’t easy,” added Prabhas, who played a double role of Amarendra Baahubali and his son Mahendra Baahubali in the franchise.

The 37-year-old, who started his career with Telugu film “Eeshwar” in 2002, says acting was not his childhood dream.

“I never thought I will pursue acting because I was a shy person. Around the age of 18 or 19 it struck me that I want to be an actor. I told my dad (producer Uppalapati Surya Narayana Raju) and uncle about it, they felt very happy,” Prabhas said.

“As an actor, ‘Baahubali’ has given me so much that I can’t explain in words. It’s a character that will always be a part of me,” he added.

While the “Baahubali 2: The Conclusion” hangover doesn’t seem to sober down at the box office anytime soon, Prabhas is now gearing up for his next project “Saaho”, to be directed by Sujeeth.

“‘Saaho’ is my next project. It’s a present day film, and it would be releasing in three languages — Hindi, Tamil and Telugu. I have started preparing for my character. We would be starting the shoot shortly,” Prabhas concluded.
