US box office : Good weekend for Brochevarevarura, Kalki falls flat
Low budget film Brochevarevarura emerged as a good hit at the US box office. Rajasekhar’s Kalki, which created strong buzz with interesting trailers, failed to make an impact in the first weekend.
Sree Vishnu and Nivedha Thomas starrer Brochevarevarura received decent reviews and collected close to $ 230k in the first weekend and trade circles have already termed it as a profitable venture for all buyers. The film started off slowly with $ 25K from premiers and showed good growth towards the weekend with $56K and $ 93K on Friday and Saturday respectively. With Sunday’s $52K , the crime comedy surpassed the $ 200k mark and ended weekend on a promising note.
Rajasekhar’s Kalki couldn’t find traction with overseas audience due to the lackluster narration and poor performances. The film collected a paltry $1.8K from its premiers. Due to the poor word of mouth and below par reviews, the collections hardly improved in the weekend and it ended with a meagre $ 28K by the completion of Sunday.
Recent release Agent Sai Srinivas Athreya has surpassed the quarter million mark by the end of second weekend and emerged as a decent hit in overseas. After a good first weekend, the humorous detective thriller collected so-so numbers in the second weekend and took the tally to $ 256K.
Weekend Domestic Report (June 28 – June 30) : Brochevarevarura Good, Kalki Average
New Releases :
1. Kalki : After a good opening on Friday, the film came down on Saturday & showed little growth on Sunday. Sunday collections should be greater than opening day for this type of films and that didn’t happen for Kalki. The film has an average weekend overall and it’s crucial for it hold from today.
2. Brochevarevarura : The film has a good opening on Friday and has shown growth in collections on Saturday & Sunday. Extra theatres are added in A centres and multiplex shows have been increased. The story is similar to last week release Agent Sai Srinivasa Athreya which opened well but able to sustain only in multiplexes on weekdays. It’s a wait and watch for this film to see how it will hold from today.
3. Annabelle : The film has decent collections in limited release centres and that’s all about it as it will be out of them by next week.
Other release Captain Rana Pratap is a washout.
Holdovers :
1. Agent Sri Srinivasa Athreya : The film can be called as an above average/successful venture as the distributor share has crossed 3.5 Cr in domestic markets. These type of films should have come in summer so that they can take utilise the advantage and do well even in A centres. Now the film is more of limited to multiplexes.
2. Mallesham : The film has very low collections in its second week and can be termed as a flop venture at the box-office. As we said in our last weekend report, these type of films should be either aggressively promoted or enacted by the big stars. Both the things haven’t happened for the film.

Story :
Brochevarevarura has two storylines which are shown in parallel interlocking fashion. First story line is between an aspiring director and a cinema heroine. Second storyline follows three joyful youngsters who are friends. A wannabe director Vishal ( satya dev) tries to rope in heroine Shalini ( Nivetha pethuraj) for his debut film. He narrates script to her, she starts liking the script as well as vishal. In the second story , Rahul ( Sree Vishnu), Rocky ( Priyadarsi ) and Rambo ( Rahul Ramakrishna ) become friends with Mitra( Nivetha Thomas ) – their college mate. These two stories take an unintentional crime turn and interlocked towards the middle of the film .
Rest of the film shows how the three Friends bail out Mitra from her troubled family life
Analysis
Director Vivek Athreya who debuted with a sensible film ‘Mental Madhilo’ , surprises with his second film ‘Brochevarevarura’ which is a contrasting one to the first. This film is an out and out comedy themed one with interlaced crime element. Core story is based on four intermediate college students Rahul, Rocky, Rambo and Mitra. A sense of Déjà vu for the college scenes is inevitable, however movie fails to maintain the grip in second half. Liberal usage of expletives between the friends in second half will be liked by youth but may find difficult for family audience to receive. In general,crime thrillers are meant for a bit puzzle for brain, but in this film it is more lighter vein and oversimplified.There are no special duets , but bit songs come as backdrop ones.
The director – heroine thread is passive and no reasoning has been established why the heroine likes the director. The climax is weak part of the film. Production values could have been better. Director Vivek Athreya has done a decent work with screenplay, but direction in second half could have been better performances. Sree Vishnu , Priyadarsi and Rahul Ramakrishna as usual excelled with their comedy timing. Heroines Nivetha Thomas, Nivetha Pethuraj are performed adequately.
Positives:
- Dialogues between the three friends are hilarious
- Simple crime storyline
- First half twist at interval block
- Uncensored version in USA with liberal dose of expletives (used in funny manner)
Negatives:
- Story appears too cinematic at times
- Patchy second half, Weak climax
- Not aimed for family audience
Verdict:
‘Brochevarevarura’ is a simple story filled with good amount of fun and light dose of crime theme. SreeVishnu ,Priyadarsi and Rahul Ramakrishna trio thread is energetic , their dialogues are quite natural. On flip side , second half is too flat at times with a weak climax. Overall , a decent entertainer which may appeal to youth.

Young hero Sree Vishnu and director Vivek Athreya have teamed up for the second time for a crime comedy, ‘Brochevarevarura’ with golden glam doll Nivetha Thomas. Priyadarshi and Rahul Ramakrishna also have key roles to play.
The story is about three youngsters who decide to settle in life by committing a crime. They kidnap a girl and demand ransom for it. Will they be able to pull it off successfully? ‘Brochevarevarura’ hits the right chord ahead of its release
Brochevarevarura, which features Sree Vishnu, Rahul Ramakrishna and Priyadarshi in the lead roles, has been making some buzz in audience because of its quirky and intriguing teasers. The film is billed as a crime comedy with an interesting setup and relatable characters. The story revolves around three happy-go-lucky guys who decide to settle in life by resorting to a kidnap and demand money as ransom.
The teasers and theatrical trailer have struck the right chord ahead of its release this Friday. It seems like the film is made to grab the attention of youth audience. Nivedha Thomas and Nivetha Pethuraj are playing the female leads in the film. While Nivedha plays a classical dancer, Nivetha will be seen as an aspiring actor. Sree Vishnu has evolved as a reliable actor with back to back hits. Also, Priyadarshi and Rahul Ramakrishna are likely to draw more attention on the film.
As Summer films slowed down at box office and no heavy competition in the next couple of weeks, Brochevarevarura has a good chance to set the cash registers ringing if it manages to garner hit talk from the first day.
Directed by Vivek Athreya, the film has its music by Vivek Sagar and Sai Sriram handled the camera. Vijay Kumar is the film’s producer.

Young hero Sree Vishnu and director Vivek Athreya have teamed up for the second time for a crime comedy. ‘Mental Madhilo’ was the first film in their combination and it was a decent hit.
Titled ‘Brochevarevarura’ Sree Vishnu will be romancing Nivetha Thomas where as Nivetha Pethuraj, Satya dev, Rahul Ramakrishna, priyadarshi are playing pivotal roles in the movie.
The shooting of the film is going on currently.Music is being composed by Vivek Sagar and Sai Sriram is cranking the camera.Vijay Kumar Manyam is producing ‘Brochevarevarura’ under Manyam Productions banner.
