I will be CM for next 30 years, says Jagan

1

YSR Congress Party President Jaganmohan Reddy has said that he is going to be the chief minister of AP for the next three decades if there are the blessings of people from all quarters in the state.

He is holding his Praja Sankalpa Yatra in Vizianagaram district when he asked people to choose between an honest leader like himself and a politician full of lies like Chandrababu Naidu.

Jagan made fun of AP CM over international recognition in zero budget natural farming, saying that in YCP opinion, Naidu has been considered the most negligent CM in the entire country now as he has no responsibility towards farm sector.

YCP leader said the TDP leaders always believe in carrying out misinformation campaigns against YCP in order to make the opposition party unpopular but the ruling party’s plans will not work in 2019 elections as people have decided to teach them a fitting lesson.

Jagan said Naidu has no knowledge of farming at all and recognition for him in this field is like a man getting the best husband award despite his having beaten up his wife.

Stating that YCP alone would be able to rescue farmers, Jagan said after coming to power, YCP would give Rs. 12,500 towards kharif cultivation in May itself which is in addition to zero-interest farm loans.

Jagan deplored that 108 ambulance services were badly affected because of Naidu’s policy of making this programme a money-making one for his followers and ruling party leaders.

AP politically victimised by Centre, says CM

0

Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu once again listed out various ways in which AP is being politically victimised by the BJP government at the Centre.

Naidu made these observations before the members of 15th Finance Commission in the presence of his cabinet colleagues, chief secretary, principal secretaries and others here in Amaravati on Thursday.

He told them how Centre avoided giving promised special category status to AP by citing reasons that 14th Finance Commission has recommended against it.

He asked the finance commission to recommend and ensure that Centre gives a grant of Rs. 9,000 crore for construction of Amaravati capital city just on the lines of how a grant of Rs. 4,500 cr was given to Naya Raipur, capital of Chhatisgarh.

AP CM also wanted Centre to release Rs. 22,250 crore towards taking up developmental projects and welfare measures in the seven backward districts of AP located in Rayalaseema and North Coastal Andhra regions.

Saying that there was bias in devolution of funds, Naidu said that huge amounts were allocated for metro cities in Madhya Pradesh while at the same time Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam were totally neglected.

He told the finance commission members that Centre has not fulfilled reorganisation promises to the unjustly separated AP state but the AP government has gone ahead with massive development and welfare programmes with available limited resources.

Naidu specifically referred to the promise of special status and tax reliefs to AP, saying that denial of these promises was nothing but political victimisation of the state by Centre.

He recalled how Rs. 350 cr for assistance to backward districts was transferred to and later withdrawn from AP government account without following basic fair banking practices.

Naidu has been raising economic injustice being done to AP by BJP at every forum, which has caused much concern among BJP state leaders these days.

Though BJP leaders like GVL Narasimha Rao are trying to attack TDP in different ways, their arguments are not carrying weight even among the common people who are unhappy over how national parties have treated AP during and after state separation.

Centre owes Rs 24,000 cr to AP, says AP CM

0

Criticising BJP for giving a tough time to AP people, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu said the Central government has been acting cruelly towards AP state ever since TDP cut off its ties with Prime Minister Modi and NDA.

Naidu addressed a meeting held after unveiling a pylon for Byravanithippa irrigation project site in Anantapur district on Wednesday.

Speaking on occasion, he said the Centre would have to pay Rs. 24,000 crore by now towards supporting 7 backward districts in AP if it abides by the promises made to such needy districts as per the Bundelkhand package.

Naidu said that it was agreed for Central assistance of Rs. 50 cr per district per year but even this promise was not being honoured by Modi government in respect of AP alone.

In violation of fair banking practices, the Centre had first deposited last year’s funds in AP government’s account and immediately withdrew it without intimating AP and without the slightest respect to established norms and procedures, he said.

Naidu threatened that there would be serious consequences if the BJP government continued to put problems to AP people by totally neglecting to honour the state reorganisation promises on special status, tax reliefs, financial assistance and so on.

While welcoming Central package for nine districts in Telangana, Naidu said similar assistance should be given to four districts in Rayalaseema region and three districts in North Coastal Andhra region in AP.

He accused YCP Jagan and two other parties of colluding with Modi to conspire against AP state’s interests at every level.

Naidu asked as to why Jagan has not been criticising Modi and BJP at all despite the fact that the Centre was doing so much injustice to AP without least bothering about the new state’s problems.

He said Jagan was neck deep in CBI cases filed against his illegal assets and that YCP leaders would kneel down before anybody who is in power at the Centre to escape punishment under these CBI cases.

Naidu asked why Pawan Kalyan has been keeping silent with regard to Rs. 75,000 crore package that would have to be given to AP by the Centre as per the fact finding committee’s findings on the new state’s needs.

He further said that KCR, Jagan and all such leaders were acting under the direction of Prime Minister Modi which is not safe for the people eventually.

Professor Nageshwar – Why KCR is targeting Chandrababu Naidu ?

In series of public meetings following the dissolution of state assembly, the TRS president and the chief Minister of Telangana has been launching a virulent attack on the TDP president and Andhra Pradesh chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu. This is despite KCR stating that the TDP does not even have a fraction of one percent vote .

The angry outbursts of KCR are not without a reason. There is a calculated electoral strategy to create a perception that the mandate in 2018 is between him and the Andhra chief Minister. KCR believes that such a perception if strengthened can rally Telangana voter in his favour as the sentiment is still afresh.

Amidst raising temperatures on the question of bifurcation that has thoroughly embarrassed Chandrababu Naidu , TDP won 15 seats on its own and stood second in another 20 seats in 2014. This performance was fairly impressive given the fact that the congress that delivered Telangana won in only 21 seats. The votes polled by TDP were higher than TRS majority in as many as 15 seats.

The TDP has been in a disarray in Telangana. Most of its legislators have defected to TRS . The party lost is leaders and cadres. Subsequent to the note for vote scam in which party supremo himself faces allegations of bribing a MLA to vote for the party in MLC elections, N Chandrababu Naidu has been relatively keeping away from party activities in Telangana. He is no longer aggressive in his criticism of TRS. All this has certainly demoralised the party rank and file. Its voting has also been largely eroded evident from the party’s dismal performance in elections to Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC ).

Now, the congress and TDP hope that their alliance will be a win-win partnership despite the fact that the TDP’s strength has dwindled since 2014 with large scale defections from the party to ruling TRS. This is because, TDP has a traditional base and is expecting a boost if it ties up with congress. the TDP Telangana leadership believes that party can recoup its strength as the alliance with congress gives the much needed confidence to the party cadres and leaders alike.

Thus, the Congress finds TDP as the most promising ally as it is desperately looking for additional vote to dislodge KCR regime.

Though the TRS publicly pooh poohed the Congress – TDP combine as a desperate bid by the opposition to stitch up an opportunistic alliance, the party is certainly not unconcerned of possible political implications of any such electoral arithmetic taking shape in the opposition camp. This is precisely the cause of concern for TRS supremo, KCR . Thus by mounting his attack on Chandrababu Naidu by invoking the Telangana sentiment , KCR intends to make TDP a liability for the congress.

In fact, the post bifurcation period has seen bonhomie between the two telugu chief ministers . KCR joined the celebrations in Amaravati, when the Prime Minister unveiled the new capital of Andhra Pradesh. Not just sharing such a cordiality, KCR described Naidu as his best friend when asked about roping in Naidu into his proposed federal front of non Congress , non BJP parties. The TRS has extended support to the demand of Andhra Pradesh for special status. All this was seen as a strategy to woo the Seemandhra electorate who form a decisive vote base in several constituencies in Telangana. However, the bonhomie turned into hostility as TDP moved towards Congress to challenge KCR.

The movement for separate state of Telangana was primarily against the domination of Andhra political leadership. The two telugu states still have many unresolved issues like sharing of Krishna , Godavari waters, dividing the joint properties etc. Being the chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh , Chandrababu Naidu has obviously defended the interests of his state. Andhra Pradesh government raised objections to the prestigious Kaleshwaram and Palamuru -Ranga Reddy Lift irrigation schemes in Telangana . The High court is still undivided. There is a wide spread perception that Chandrababu Naidu is responsible for the undue delay in bifurcation of judiciary. The wounds of bifurcation are still afresh. Precisely, the TRS and KCR want to incite this Telangana identity to question Chandrababu Naidu led TDP. Thus, KCR wants to frustrate the attempts of congress to mount a joint opposition fight against the TRS in the ensuing Assembly elections.

AP CM decides not to attend Maharashtra court

0

After deliberating with legal experts, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Saturday decided not to appear before the Dharmabad court in Maharashtra state on October 15 in connection with the Babli assault case.

It may be recalled the Maharashtra court Non-Bailable Warrants against Naidu and 15 others for not appearing before it in connection with the hearings on the Babli agitation case.

Now Naidu would send his advocates once again to file a recall petition before the court on Oct 15. In September third week, Naidu could not attend the court as he had to go to New York in US to address an international conclave on natural organic farming at United Nations Organisation, an international body of world nations.

TDP MP Kanakamedala Ravindra Kumar, who is also an advocate, attended the court at that time representing AP CM and he filed a recall petition already.

In the 2010 case, Chandrababu Naidu, Ministers Devineni Umamaheswara Rao, Nakka Anand Babu and 13 others were charged with preventing officials from performing their duties and also for assaulting officials who were on duty.

TDP blamed BJP for trying to politically harass TDP leaders who were only agitating for the noble cause of protecting the interests of farmers in North Telangana region by opposing construction of Babli irrigation project across the Godavari river.

AP angry with Subramanian Swamy

1

Controversial BJP MP Subramanian Swamy seems to have taken upon himself the task of creating problems for Chandrababu Naidu government in AP after TDP got separated from the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre on the issue of special status and other issues.

He has picked up the most indefensible issue of getting autonomy for the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) by getting rid of AP government’s control over the religious body that presides over Tirumala Sri Venkateswara Temple, a most revered place of worship for Hindus.

Swamy knows that right from the beginning, there have been continuous efforts to somehow establish Centre’s control over TTD and this more so since BJP came back to power in the country in 2014.

At the same time, Swamy has forgotten the fact that Tirumala Temple could not be separated from AP people even at a historic occasion when Andhra state was carved out of Madras State in 1953 despite hectic efforts by some forces to prevent that at that time.

Swamy’s activities against AP over TTD affairs have provoked a serious backlash from different sections of people and intellectuals in the state.

Hero-turned-activist Sivaji threatened Swamy with dire and disastrous consequences if he continued with his unholy and disgraceful agenda of hurting AP people’s sentiment by disconnecting their emotional link with Lord Venkateswara Swamy Temple.

Sivaji said Subramanian Swamy had such a hopelessly controversial background that he had boldness and audacity to politicise TTD affairs with his ulterior motive to become a blue-eyed boy of Modi.

The actor used harsh words saying Subramanian Swamy is nothing more than a sanyasi who has passed objectionable comments along religious lines in the past.

Swamy is controversial for having said Ravana was a dalit hailing from Uttar Pradesh and for demanding declaring India as a Hindu nation.

BJP ordering IT raids in poll-bound states?: AP CM

0

AP Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu discussed with party senior leaders on the latest situation after massive raids are started by special teams of Income Tax officials on offices of construction firms and industries in Krishna, Guntur and Visakhapatnam districts on Friday morning.

Naidu told the leaders it had become a habit for the BJP government at the Centre to order IT raids in all those States that are bound for elections with the objective to indirectly threaten political opponents there.

He referred to the recent raids in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Telangana and now in Andhra Pradesh. Though no reports of raids on Minister Narayana and other TDP leaders’ were confirmed till now today, Mr. Naidu said there was a need for all leaders to remain alert and keep a close watch. He said everyone would be prepared to face any consequences in the cause of defending AP’s interests.

Meanwhile, the IT officials who gathered in Vijayawada in large numbers were stated to have stopped implementing their plan A, that is to raid properties of political leaders at the last minute because of excessive media attention and possible backlash from TDP leaders. Now the special teams followed their plan B which is to raid premises of real estate firms and industries. After Amaravati is made state capital, unexpected levels of construction activity is taking place in Vijayawada, Mangalagiri and surrounding areas.

Today’s raids were focused on DS Logistics, Southern Developers & Constructions, Subhagruha Constructions and several precasting and brick industries near Jaggaiahpeta town.

KCR colluded with BJP to target me, says Chandrababu Naidu

0

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Thursday alleged that TRS chief K. Chandrasekhar Rao, actor-politician Pawan Kalyan and YSR Congress leader Jaganmohan Reddy have colluded with the BJP to target him.

With Telangana’s acting Chief Minister and Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) chief Chandrasekhar Rao continuing his bitter attack on Naidu, calling him a “thief and betrayer”, the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) president accused Rao of colluding with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Naidu was talking to reporters on the sidelines of inauguration of a facility by Xiaomi and Dixon Technologies to manufacture Mi LED TVs in this temple town.

The TDP chief, however, said he would not respond to personal attacks by KCR. “I speak on ideologies and policies. I never resort to personal attacks,” he said when asked to react to KCR’s bitter attacks on him during election meetings in Telangana.

With KCR also targeting Naidu for TDP’s alliance with the Congress in Telangana, Naidu said the party took the step due to political compulsions. The TDP president, however, ruled out similar arrangement with the Congress in Andhra Pradesh, saying the latter does not have much presence in the state.

Indirectly defending the alliance with the Congress in Telangana, Naidu recalled that the United Front, of which he was the Convener, had taken the Congress party’s outside support to form the government at the Centre.

Claiming that he developed Hyderabad as the information technology hub when he was the Chief Minister of undivided Andhra Pradesh, Naidu said he did it for Telugu people. He pointed out even KCR and his family members admitted that the credit of developing Hyderabad goes to him.

Naidu alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had hatched a conspiracy to target him and the TDP. He said Modi was using central agencies against him. Stating that he was not afraid of anybody, Naidu said he had clean record and credibility in his 40-year-long political career.

The TDP leader said Modi was trying to tarnish established political leaders and demolish established institutions. He condemned what he called attempts by the Centre to take over the affairs of Tirupati temple.

Naidu predicted that an alternative will emerge to the BJP-led government at the Centre. Such an alternative was necessary to undo the injustice done to people of the country, especially the people of Andhra Pradesh, by the Modi government, he said.

Naidu, whose TDP pulled out of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in March this year, said BJP had done more injustice to Andhra Pradesh than the Congress which bifurcated the state.

“You have not given the special status which you had promised in 2014,” he said and accused Modi of also going back on the promise to implement Andhra Pradesh Bifurcation Act.

The TDP chief also slammed the Modi government over “Rafale scam”, saying Bofors was small compared to this.

He alleged that people have lost faith in the banking system as those who committed bank frauds fled the country. He also targeted the Centre for rising fuel prices, devaluation of rupees, its failure to achieve anything from demonetisation and improper implementation of the Goods and Services Tax.

KCR under Modi magic spell: AP CM

0

TDP top leadership is now taking a closer look at the political scenario in Twin Telugu states ahead of the early elections in Telangana this year-end.

During Wednesday’s deliberations with ministers and senior leaders, CM Chandrababu Naidu is learnt to have passed serious comments against the TRS party’s U-Turn in its political strategies. KCR has earlier turned down TDP’s request for working together so that it would help bring in greater mutual development in Twin states.

Talking about this issue, Naidu at a meeting in Amaravati is said to have commented that KCR is apparently under the magic spell of Prime Minister Modi which is the reason why TRS is taking an increasingly anti-TDP and anti-AP stand. There are also chances of a joint strategy of BJP and TRS as regards early polls in Telangana. They may be thinking of completing the elections early there so as to fully focus on damaging TDP by making joint efforts in AP elections later. Saying these words, Chandrababu has cautioned seniors to be more alert in the coming days.

A minister has said that the recent request of Telangana government to Centre to take up investigation into Vote-for-Note case is also part of the BJP-TRS joint strategies.

The meeting also discussed issue of reports that Chandrababu may be a contender for Prime Minister post in 2019 elections because of his playing key role in national politics. Talking about this, Mr. Naidu told the ministers and spokespersons not to talk about such matters anywhere as the main task should be to work carefully and bring together a strong alliance to bring down BJP at the Centre.

Telangana elections have raised political temperatures in AP as well. Rival parties are keen to change their strategies to suit emerging situation. TDP is obviously in the forefront of this exercise.

Five reasons why AP people will ignore BJP

0

Year 2019 is going to give BJP AP unit a bitter experience best summed up in this quotation. “When troubles come, they come not in singles but in battalions”. This aptly describes the present predicament going by the public mood building up in the State against BJP despite it being the ruling party at the Centre.

All the efforts being made by BJP National President Amit Shah and his advisors are not getting the desired results to change status quo in the field level. They are no able to attract many aspirants who usually make a beeline for MLA tickets by now, nor is there any major migration of second-rung leaders who may want to shift loyalties due to ticket denials in other parties.

The general impression, as of now, is that BJP comes nowhere near the other major parties and that Pawan Kalyan’s Jana Sena is far ahead of it in terms of voter appeal and vote bank. The TDP and YCP may be afraid of Jana Sena a bit as it is likely to split vote in some places fairly well. They have no such fear with regard to BJP state unit as it may end up having far less impact in the elections.

Going by the emerging political scenario, BJP may even find it difficult to get candidates to contest in most assembly and Lok Sabha constituencies. BJP won four assembly seats in 2014 while Congress drew a blank. At that time, alliance with TDP helped BJP to a great extent while Congress fought it alone and lost deposits in over 150 out of total 175 segments in AP. There may be a reversal of roles in 2019.

Of the five major factors that stand in the path of BJP in next elections,
the first and foremost one is stated to be its unenviable status of being an untouchable in the eyes of voters and alliance seekers. Jagan is almost afraid of even talking about alliance with BJP. Amit Shah might have thought of reaching a tie-up with YCP by giving support to Jaganmohan Reddy in different ways, but TDP has outwitted BJP and created a strong anti-BJP mood among the people in respect of non-fulfilment of special status and other reorganisation promises. If Jagan dares to ally with BJP, it is going to be a massive self-goal at this juncture. Entering election fray alone means a total rout for BJP just like the position of Congress in 2014 elections when it drew a blank. The scene reverses now with BJP likely to get zero while Congress’s position may improve a little.

The second spoilsport is BJP’s belated criticism of the ruling TDP which is not being received well among the masses, not to speak of the educated and informed sections. It is not that the TDP’s rule has won favour of all sections of people but that the common man is suspicious as to how can BJP suddenly change stand and criticise TDP after sharing power with it for over three and half years since 2014. The sudden change in tactics has put BJP in an embarrassing situation and its leaders’ increasing attacks on sand and liquor mafias are only viewed as something made out of political interests.

Thirdly, BJP lost the confidence of AP people by announcing that special status would not be possible. The party preferred to say this at a time when the status issue demand was spiralling into a major sentiment that triggered a feeling of betrayal among the people who were seething with anger since state division. BJP leadership forgot that the wounds caused by AP bifurcation are still fresh and rival parties will surely take political advantage out of this. Now BJP leaders will have to keep silent while other parties make the most of main election plank which is special status.

Fourth factor is the selection of Kapu leader Kanna Lakshminarayana as BJP state president. A vast section of Kapu and allied castes are openly supporting matinee idol Pawan en bloc. The proof for this polarisation in Kapu vote was seen in 2009 elections when Chiranjeevi’s Praja Rajyam Party split anti-government vote considerably. PRP got over 17 per cent vote that year in United AP and won 18 seats. As Chiranjeevi’s favoured brother and a successful actor, Pawan is expected to wield far greater influence on Kapus than Kanna Lakshminarayana.

The fifth and final factor obstructing BJP in AP is its inability to counter TDP’s charges on issues of its alleged secret deal with Jagan, softened investigation in Jagan’s assets cases and non-allocation of enough funds for completing Amaravati capital, central educational institutions and irrigation projects like Polavaram.

Countering BJP criticism of corruption, TDP MLC Buddha Venkanna challenged for a debate on the assets of BJP state president Kanna Lakshminarayana saying that it was everybody’s knowledge that Kanna received notices from CBI in a corruption case. He dismissed BJP criticism as mere political allegations aimed at undermining the good work being done by Chandrababu Naidu to develop AP and Amaravati.

On his part, BJP MLC Somu Veerraju criticized TDP saying there were irregularities in all sectors under Chandrababu rule and nothing is an exception for this from Polavaram national project to Neeru Meeru works in village level.

All said, 2019 is going to be a suspense-filled unique election with only one exception. That BJP will not find a partner while Congress has already got one.

Mukhyamantri Yuva Nestham launched today

0

‘Mukhyamantri Yuva Nestham’ scheme officially launched today in Andhra Pradesh. Through this scheme, government will give away an amount of Rs 1000 as monthly unemployment allowance to the eligible, jobless youth in the state. CM Chandra Babu Naidu launched this scheme today and interacted with youngsters at Undavalli. Unemployed youth turned up in big numbers to this event. Local ministers and MLAs are distributing the unemployment allowance certificates to the beneficiaries in all 175 constituencies in the state.

Background:

TDP manifesto promised unemployment allowance of 2000/- per unemployed.Earlier Telugu360 reviewed performance of TDP government compared to what was promised in their 2014 manifesto (Click here for : Revisiting TDP manifesto 2014 (Part-2) – List of Promises failed miserably). One of the observations made during this review is the failure of TDP government on fulfilling the promise of jobs or unemployment assistance. However, later, TDP government announced launching of this scheme. However, unemployment assistance is modified to 1000/- per month. The government hopes, this scheme will impact around 12 lakh youngsters. So far already, more than 2 lakh unemployed youth registered on the web portal of the scheme. Around Rs 1,200 crore will be spent annually on the ‘Mukhyamantri Yuva Nestham’ scheme.

Real-time governance:

So far, 626,783 applied for this scheme, and out of these, already 215,832 applications are already verified by the government and 183,585 have been sanctioned. All these details are updated in online portal of the government (Click here for :Mukhyamantri Yuve Nestham). The application process is online and the statistics of the scheme will be updated on regular basis online. Moreover, the allowance will be credited into the bank account of the beneficiary by the first week of every month. All the applicants will be linked through Aadhar.

Not just about giving money:

As per the officials, ‘Mukhyamantri Yuva Nestham’ scheme is not just about giving money to unemployed every month. It also focuses on skill development and apprenticeship opportunities to unemployed youth.CM told, the primary purpose of the scheme is to empower youth by providing skill development, self-employment opportunities and use youth power for the development of the economy.

Top officials from private companies like Kia Motors, Foxconn and Amara Raja also present during the event and it needs to be seen how the government can coordinate this private sector and unemployed youth.

The future of this scheme:

As of now, it looks like nowhere in the country has this kind of scheme been done at this large scale till date. Even though current phase focuses on disbursing monthly allowance, once this phase is done, government is going to focus on skill development and apprenticeship. So, if whatever is planned on paper now goes live really, definitely it will be like a model for the entire country.

No place for violence in a democratic world: Chandrababu

0

Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, during his current visit to US tour, strongly condemned the killing of MLA by Maoists saying that there should be no place for violence in a democratic world in which people were seeking development and good quality of life.

Mr. Naidu addressed the NRIs’ conclave held in New York when he recalled Sunday’s violence in which TDP Araku MLA Kidari Sarveswara Rao and senior leader Siveri Somu were shot dead by Maoist naxalites. He called upon all sections of society to condemn this dastardly act.

Stating that violence would not take anybody anywhere, Mr. Naidu underlined the need for fostering and developing a constructive, positive mindset so as to help achieve the larger developmental goals.

He was all praise for the Telugu diaspora saying that these NRIs were coming out with flying colours and they were present in every town and city in America now. So many Telugus could come and excel in the US now which was possible after the TDP government placed major focus on IT development and setting up of engineering colleges in the past two decades, he added.

Mr. Naidu complimented the NRI activists of TDP in America saying that they had done an excellent job by conducting Mahanadu in the US when Nara Lokesh was present as chief guest a few months ago.

The CM told the NRIs that they would get voting rights soon and they would be able to exercise this right by staying at their place of work in America. He called upon them to remember their native places and villages in AP and keep helping them develop in all areas.

Meanwhile, different parties express concern over violence in AP. CPI senior leader K. Narayana condemned Maoist violence saying that the use of guns would not solve any problem. He asked the government to look at this violence from a socio-economic angle rather than from a law and order point of view. He further said that the government’s policies towards tribal issues were also responsible for the killing of Araku MLA. It was sad that the Maoists killed MLA Sarveswara Rao despite the fact that he had been serving tribals in a big way, he said.

Chandrababu says shocked over killing of MLA, ex-lawmaker

0

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and TDP chief N. Chandrababu Naidu on Sunday expressed shock over the killing of his party MLA and a former legislator by Maoists in Visakhapatnam district earlier in the day.

Naidu, who is currently visiting the United States, sent a message condemning the killings, and conveyed his condolences to the bereaved families.

The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) said that such attacks and killings are a “scar on humanity”.

K. Sarveswara Rao, 45, TDP MLA from Araku (Reserved-Scheduled Tribe) and his party colleague and former MLA Siveri Soma, 52, were gunned down by Maoists near Thutangi village, about 125 km from the coastal city of Visakhapatnam.

As relatives and supporters of the slain leaders attacked two police stations to protest against the alleged police failure to protect them, Naidu appealed to the people to maintain calm.

The Chief Minister directed senior Cabinet colleague Kala Venkatrao to rush to the district.

Modi told lies, should apologise to nation: AP CM

0

The controversy surrounding the Rs. 58,000 crore Rafale jet fighter deal between India and France is generating more suspicion than curiosity now.

Congress president Rahul Gandhi had already levelled charges of huge corruption against Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal demanded a special session of Parliament to discuss the shady deal. BJP leaders were asserting that this was the handiwork of the Congress-led UPA government in the past.

It all began after Opposition leaders alleged thousands of crores of corruption in the acquisition of 36 Rafale jet fighters from France.

Now, BJP faced attack from its former ally TDP which is presently Congress partner.

Referring to the deal, AP Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu had launched a stinging attack against the BJP. He said that it was now clear that Modi had told lies with regard to the Rafale deal and that the Prime Minister should apologise to the Nation unconditionally.

Mr. Naidu referred to the disclosures in the media how former French president Francois Hollande had reportedly clarified that they allowed Anil Ambani’s Reliance Defence to become a partner of France’s Dassault Aviation at the request of Indian government. Hollande was stated to have said that France was left with no choice in this episode.

Chandrababu Naidu toured Kurnool district just now and inaugurated Owk reservoir tunnel and Pulikanuma project in the presence of Water Resources Minister Devineni Umamaheswara Rao and others.

Mr. Naidu once again launched a scathing attack on Jaganmohan Reddy, saying that the YCP leader was more interested in serving PM Modi and BJP’s interests rather than fighting for the cause of AP. While TDP is waging struggle for justice to the deceived AP, YCP and other parties were joining hands with the enemies of the new state.

It is going to be a battle between forces that work for achieving special status and other promises for AP and those not so much interested in this agenda.

Chandrababu should appear before Maharashtra court on Oct 15

0

The Dharmabad court in Maharashtra has rejected the recall petition on Friday and it ordered that AP Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu should appear before the court on Oct 15.

The judge asked the advocate as to why Mr Naidu and others did not personally appear in connection with the non bailable arrest warrants against them in the Babli project agitation case.

In a serious observation, the judge remarked that the courts do not differentiate between a Chief Minister or a Common Man and all are equal before law.

However, the court granted bail to three former TDP MLAs who were also among the accused. They were Gangula Kamalakar, KS Ratnam and Prakash Goud. They were given a fine of Rs 5,000 each.

Advocate Subba Rao went from AP and filed the recall petition on behalf of Mr Naidu. The news of the rejection of AP CM’s plea had caused alarm among the TDP leaders and cadres.

Meanwhile, Mr Naidu would have no problem to go ahead with his US visit which is scheduled to begin on Sept 22. He is going as a special invitee to deliver a lecture to the UNO in New York on on Sept 24 on the natural, organic farming practices being implemented in AP.

The TDP organisers breathed a sigh of relief on hearing the news as it has not interfered with the CM’s historic address at the international body where Mr Naidu would reach out to global leaders.

Should AP CM appear before Maharashtra court?

0

The legal experts and ruling TDP leaders in AP firmly believe that CM Chandrababu Naidu may not be required to attend before the Maharashtra court in connection with the NBW in the Babli dharna case immediately.

However, utmost caution will have to be taken till the case reaches its logical end. There is a chance for CM to seek relief from personal appearance considering his high office and predetermined schedule.

Though it appears to be a small case, the TDP is now adapting a cautious approach and exploring all legal options. After initial uncertainty, the ruling TDP leaders are of the view that the non-bailable arrest warrant (NBW) should not be seen as a mere political ploy by the opponents.

It came as a clever and strong political posturing by the BJP ahead of the 2019 general election. It is learnt that Chief Minister Naidu had not officially received any summons in the 2010 case in the past eight years. Then the question of Mr Naidu refusing to take summons wouldn’t arise.

This was why the TDP leaders blamed the entire NBW controversy on the party in power in Maharashtra and at the centre. TDP spokesman Gottipati Ramakrishna said that there was no merit in the case as the authorities concerned acted under the influence of the ruling party leaders there.

The necessary circumstances were created deliberately to implicate AP CM in a false case, Mr Ramakrishna added.

In the 2010 dharna case, the charge sheet was filed in 2013. The charges were pressed against CM Naidu under section 353 for obstructing public servant and under section 332 for causing injury to public servant. It shouldn’t be forgotten that AP CM was fighting for a public cause, said Mr Ramakrishna.

The charge sheet was filed in Maharashtra when there was a Congress alliance government there. At that time, Chandrababu was friendly with the BJP.Now things turned against Chandrababu in respect of the Babli case because of reversal of political equations on the national stage.

Will Babli case impact Congress-TDP alliance?

0

Courts sending non-bailable warrants to Chief minister of Andhra Pradesh creating tremors in political circles. Issuing non-bailable warrants against chief minister shocked many. However, there has been another discussion on how this case will impact Congress-TDP alliance.

1975 agreement between AP CM and MH CM:

In 1975, S.B. Chavan and Jalagam Vengal Rao reached an agreement regarding water distribution between the states. As per this agreement, the Godavari Water Disputes Tribunal (GWDT) Award was made and Maharashtra could utilise 60 tmcft (thousand million cubic feet) of Godavari water while Andhra Pradesh could go ahead with building the Sriram Sagar Project (SRSP) and utilise all the balance water.

2010 Babli issue:

When Maharashtra started Babli project across the river Godavari, there were apprehensions among farmers of Telangana. TDP then argued that Maharashtra has already used up its quota in course of time by building four projects and then Maharashtra began construction of the Babli project on the foreshores of SRSP and 13 other small projects upstream. Eighteen lakh acres under the SRSP ayacut in the Telangana region will become barren if Maharashtra is allowed to have its way. 74 leaders of TDP including 50 MLAs, MLCs and MPs led by Mr. Naidu, were arrested when they tried to enter Maharashtra territory crossing the barricades set up by that State police. They were taken to Dharmabad police station in Nanded district. Several woman legislators were also among the arrested.

In 2010, Congress governments at AP, MH and Center:

The entire episode of CBN’s visit to Babli was keenly watched by Telugu people those days. Maharashtra Chief Minister was Ashok Chavan from Congress and Andhra Pradesh CM was K.Rosaiah. Rosaiah, instead of arguing against Maharashtra government, tried to placate CBN and stop him from making it an issue. On the other hand, the Maharashtra government took a tough line after allowing the TDP leader and 65 others to enter its territory. CBN came down heavily on Sonia Gandhi on this. Blaming the Congress for the problems in SRSP command area, Chandra Babu Naidu accused AICC president Sonia Gandhi of colluding with Maharashtra in the issue in 2010.

2013 Supreme court ruling in favour of MH:

The Supreme Court ruled in favor of Maharashtra in 2013. However SC verdict ensured some safeguards like opening Babli gates during the monsoon period (July to October ) to allow inflows to SRSP. The UPA Cabinet on 17 October 2013 gave its approval for Constitution of the 3-Members Supervisory Committee on the Babli barrage to implement the directions of the Supreme Court.

TDP-Congress alliance vs Babli case:

While it is very clear that Babli project, cases on CBN regarding Babli – all originated during Congress governments, now TDP and Congress are coming close to form alliance. Now it will be interesting to see whom CBN will criticize on Babli case – whether Congress party, that violated 1975 agreement, that took tough stand against him in 2010, the union cabinet of which favored Maharashtra OR will he lambaste BJP keeping in mind current political equations.

Operation Garuda or NOT?

While TDP loyalists are strongly arguing all this is part of “Operation Garuda” initiated by BJP and there will be bigger twists in upcoming days as Modi’s government is hellbent on spoiling political career of Chandra Babu. At the same time, political opponents of arguing against this and reminding Babli project was initiated by Congress government and it was Congress government in 2010 that initiated cases against CBN and co. They are asking if BJP really want to spoil political prospects of CBN they may expedite the cases like vote for note or any other such cases but not Babli case that actually gives mileage for CBN.

We will have to wait and see how this case will influence equations between TDP and Congress.

Non bailable arrest warrant against Chandrababu Naidu

0

In a rather shocking development, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has been issued non bailable arrest warrant by a court in Maharashtra. The notices were issued in connection with the protest done by Chandrababu and co against Babli project a decade back. Notices were issued by Dharmabad court in Maharashtra. Notices were issued to Chandrababu, Devineni Uma and 14 others.

The protest was taken up by TDP as Telangana people were at loss because of the Babli project. Then, Chandrababu and others were house arrested by Maharashta government. Later they were taken back to Hyderabad in special flight by Maharashtra government.

Is it Operation Garuda?
It is almost a decade since the incident and it is surprising that this case surfaced again now. Some people doubt whether this is part of Operation Garuda as actor Shivaji has been alleging. Moreover it is BJP ruling in Maharashtra.

Is it NOT operation Garuda?
But on the other hand, others rubbish the argument that this is Operation Garuda. Because this case is in fact reminding people about Chandrababu’s fight for Telangana people in this election season. Such action may actually help Chandrababu in Telangana elections.

We will have to wait and see how this case unfolds.

TDP chief leaves decision on poll alliance to Telangana unit

0

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and TDP national president N. Chandrababu Naidu has left it to party’s Telangana unit to decide alliance with Congress and other parties for the Assembly elections in the state.

Naidu told the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leaders of Telangana on Saturday that it’s for them to decide on the alliance. He discussed TDP’s strategy with the party leaders.

Naidu reportedly dropped hints that he would not be in a position to campaign for the party in Telangana.

The TDP chief’s move comes in the wake of reports that main opposition Congress party is ready to have an alliance with TDP, the Left parties and Telangana Jana Samithi (TJS) to take on ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS).

Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao on Thursday dissolved the state Assembly. The elections are likely to be held by year-end along with four other states.

While addressing TDP leaders, Naidu avoided direct reference to the Congress. He remarked that ups and downs were common for TDP in its 35-year history.

Naidu claimed that if Telangana is a revenue-surplus state, it was because of the efforts he made during his stint as the chief minister of undivided Andhra Pradesh.

The Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister said that he wants progress and prosperity of both the Telugu states. He alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi tried to pitch Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao against him by stating that Rao displayed maturity.

Naidu also criticized Modi for the manner in which he rolled out demonetization and claimed that this exercise failed to achieve any purpose and ended up causing inconvenience to the people.

TDP’s Telangana unit chief L. Ramna and other leaders told Naidu that TDP’s support base remained intact in Telangana despite several leaders crossing over to TRS during last four years.

TDP bagged 15 seats in 119-member Telangana Assembly in 2014 elections. However, 13 of its legislators have switched loyalties to the ruling party.
