2019 AP Election Fever: CPI – Janasena alliance?

0

K Ramakrishna, State (AP) CPI Secretary hinted at a possible alliance with Pawan Kalyan’s Janasena party in the upcoming 2019 AP Assembly elections. Speaking at the 24th Guntur CPI Representatives Congress, the CPI leader stated, ‘the ideologies of both CPI and Janasena are similar. We are ready to work along with Pawan Kalyan’s Janasena Party in the upcoming elections. We will work with individuals whose agenda is ‘People’s Welfare’.’

Even Pawan Kalyan shares similar ideologies like us. We are looking forward to working with him in the future. As of now, no decision has been taken by the party’s core committee. Once we conclude the CPI Representatives Congress meeting in Kadapa district, the party will meet in a coordination committee meeting, and will come to a decision on this, said K Ramakrishna.

CPI leader K Ramakrishna has also been a part of the AP JAC (Joint Action Committee) set up by Pawan Kalyan. The CPI leader took a jibe at Chandrababu Naidu before concluding his speech. He said, ‘PM Modi is treating AP CM Chandrababu Naidu like a blade of grasses’.
It will be interesting to see whether CPI’s alliance with Janasena will be a reality or a mere tabloid headline.

CPI leader to AP BJP – You are shameless to continue as Ministers

0

After BJP MLC Somu Veerraju and TDP MLC Buddha Venkanna fed the Telugu News Channels in the morning, it is the turn of AP CPI Secretary K Ramakrishna.

He asked the BJP leader to resign from their respective AP State Cabinet Portfolios if they believe AP CM Chandrababu Naidu is corrupted!

‘AP Special Category Status is the right of the people of Andhra Pradesh. The BJP and TDP parties made the issue as a fight between the two parties. The BJP leaders are claiming that the AP Govt. is corrupt. The also alleged that the funds are being diverted.

If that is the case, are you are shameless, to continue as ministers in under a corrupted government? You should answer the people of this state the same. If you people (BJP) have any ethical values, then both the BJP Ministers should resign for their portfolios in the AP Cabinet. You speak after submitting your resignation.

It is absolutely shameless on your part to continue in the Cabinet, and still attack the Chief Minister. Did you even come out clearly on anything? You just reiterate what Ram Madhav asks you to say. Don’t you have a mind of your own?’, questioned AP CPI Secretary K Ramakrishna.

Telangana opposition protest shifting of ‘Dharna Chowk’

0

All opposition parties in Telangana on Friday came together for another round of protest over the shifting of ‘Dharna Chowk’, a popular venue for staging protests in Hyderabad.

Leaders of all opposition parties and mass organisations participated in a silent protest at Telangana Martyrs’ Memorial at Gun Park, organised by Telangana Joint Action Committee (TJAC).

TJAC chairman Kodandaram, a bitter critic of Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, led the protest and warned the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) government that if it failed to withdraw the move, a march to ‘Dharna Chowk’ will be organised on May 15.

Kodandaram, who had played a key role in Telangana movement along with Chandrasekhar Rao, alleged that the government was trying to snatch democratic and constitutional rights of the people.

TJAC leader said that for over a month the opposition parties had been raising their voice over the issue but the government was bent on shifting ‘Dharna Chowk’.

Main opposition Congress, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Telugu Desam Party (TDP), Communist Party of India (CPI) and Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) declared their support to the proposed march.

State Congress chief Uttam Kumar Reddy said people had hoped that there will be greater freedom and liberty in Telangana state but the government was curbing people’s right to dissent.

The TDP’s Telangana unit President L. Ramna said the party would extend full support to TJAC on the issue.

‘Dharna Chowk’ has been the venue of thousands of protests by political parties, people’s organisations, students’ groups, employees’ unions and others for over two decades.

Chief Minister Chandrasekhar Rao had last month defended the police move to shift ‘Dharna Chowk’ to the city outskirts saying that some parties were deliberately creating problems in the name of protests.

In March, leaders of all opposition parties had come together to meet Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan Rao and submit a memorandum protesting the government’s move.

Congress leaders detained as protest intensifies over ‘Dharna Chowk’

0

Police detained leaders of Telangana unit of Congress party here on Monday as the opposition intensified its protest over shifting of ‘Dharna Chowk’, a popular venue of protests in Hyderabad.

Tension prevailed at Tank Bund in the heart of the city as several leaders sat on satyagraha at the state of B.R. Ambedkar but police evicted them on the ground that there is no permission for the protest.

Telangana state Congress chief Uttam Kumar Reddy, former ministers Bhatti Vikramarka, Mohammed Ali Shabbir, D. Nagender and former MPs V. Hanumantha Rao and Anjan Kumar Yadav were among those detained and shifted to different police stations.

The Congress party had called for the protest to demand Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) government to revive ‘Dharna Chowk’ at Indira Park in the heart of the city.

Uttam Kumar Reddy alleged that TRS government is suppressing the voice of opposition by shifting ‘Dharna Chowk’ to the city outskirts. “This move is undemocratic. The government is not ready to tolerate the voice of dissent,” he told reporters.

The Congress leaders said TRS chief K. Chandrasekhar Rao, who organised many protests in the city including Million March during Telangana movement, was not snatching the rights of the opposition parties.

The protest by the Congress came a day after leaders of Dharna Chowk Protection Committee launched a month long relay hunger strike at the Communist Party of India (CPI) headquarters, Mukhdoom Bhavan here.

The committee comprising leaders of CPI, CPI-M, other Left parties and mass organisations denounced the attitude of the Chief Minister and said the government was denying the democratic rights of the people to protest.

Noted educationalist and former Member of Legislative Council (MLC) Chukka Ramaiah said that it was unfortunate that Chandrasekhar Rao, who participated in many agitations programmes and meetings at Indira Park during the Telangana movement, now does not want that very Chowk to exist.

‘Dharna Chowk’ had been the venue of thousands of protests by political parties, people’s organisations, students’ groups, employees’ unions and others for over two decades.

Chief Minister Chandrasekhar Rao had last week defended the police move to shift ‘Dharna Chowk’ to the city outskirts saying that that some parties were deliberately creating problems in the name of protests. He also stated that the venue doesn’t make any difference as the opposition will still be able to highlight the issues and bring them to the government’s notice thanks to the coverage by the media.

Last month, leaders of all opposition parties had come together to meet Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan Rao and submit a memorandum protesting the government’s move.

Veteran communist Bardhan hospitalized

0

Veteran communist leader Ardhendu Bhushan Bardhan (AB Bardhan) was hospitalized in New Deli this morning after he suffered a paralytic stroke.

Bardhan (92), who made Ajay Bhavan,CPI Headquarters, his home , felt uneasy around 8 AM and then fell consciousness. He was immediately rushed to the GB Pant Hospital in central Delhi, according to  Atul Kumar Anjaan, one of the party’s secretaries.  Atul said Bardhan’s condition was “critical” and added that  the former General Secretary of the CPI was admitted in the emergency wing and being taken care of by senior doctors.

Bardhan’s wife, a professor in Nagpur University, passed away in 1986. The couple has a son and a daughter. Ardhendu Bhushan Bardhan has been a leading figure of the trade union movement and Left politics in Maharashtra and had won as an independent candidate in the Maharashtra Assembly in 1957.

He later rose to become the General Secretary and then the President of the All India Trade Union Congress, the oldest trade union in India. Bardhan moved to Delhi politics in the 1990s and became the deputy general secretary of the CPI. He succeeded Indrajit Gupta as the General Secretary of the party in 1996. Burdhan played key role  in the bringing all non-bjp parties together to form the national front (NF) and united front (UF) governments at the centre.

Jagan Fast-tracks his political project

0

The opposition party leader YS Jaganmohan Reddy appears to have put his political project on fast track. While putting chief minister Chandrababu  Naidu on notice, he announced that he would sit on indefinite fast from September 15, if the government fails to achieve anything concrete on getting special status accorded to Andhra Pradesh. He announced his program of action hours after Assembly adopted a resolution urging the centre to bestow the special status on the state, which is in the throes of partition.

Indefinite fast, definitely, is a democratic tool one can use in rarest of rare cases. Normally, politics prefer protracted battles. Instead of exploiting the cause to mobilize the people on a longer course in protracted fight, Jagan’s fast tracking has the potential to alienate him from the other political parties like CPI, CPM and Congress, Lok Satta etc and masses.

Jagan is not attempting to make common cause with these parties. In fact Left have whole heartedly supported him in this case. Before announcing his indefinite fast, Jagan should have taken Left parties into confidence. Another thing, fifteen-day notice is too short for any government to process the decision. In our set-up the resolution has to travel a meandering path to reach its final destination. So, Jagan seems to have reached a conclusion that the announcement by centre is unlikely to come by in notice period, and he should launch the final missile.

Jagan has not prepared the people for his final assault on Naidu, nor has he taken the friendly parties into confidence. Isn’t it going to be a misadventure by a young man in a hurry? Jagan must ensure that his act did not simulate emotions that lead to suicides by the people from poorer section, who are already frustrated by many socio-economic issues. Victims of all political movements always come poorer sections.

0

The Andhra Pradesh bandh called by CPI in association with all opposition parties against the centre’s apathy towards granting special category status to the state was peaceful on Tuesday. While the bandh was complete in many districts, it evoked partial response in a couple of  districts.

Rallies were carried out by Congress, YSR Congress, CPM, other parties and civic organizations supporting the bandh and demanding immediate declaration of special category state status to Andhra.

Both NDA at centre and TDP government at state had come in for attack for reneging on their promise to accord special status.

In all towns across the state educational institutions, business establishments and petrol bunks were shut. Cinema exhibitors cancelled the morning shows in theaters. Till afternoon RTC buses were off the roads. In some place police intervention enabled RTC to ply some buses. Very few were seen on the roads. Though  banks, government offices and central government organizations functioned, the attendance was thin. In Kakinada, police used mild lathi charge to disperse the workers of various political parties assembled to stage a dharna near collector’s office.

In Vijayawada APCC President N Raghuveera Reddy, CPI State Secretary K Rama Krishna led protest marches. Raghuveera visited  relay hunger strike camp organized by Bar Association at court complex and expressed party’s solidarity with them and called for a united fight.

He said the bandh was success as the people rose to the occasion united to express their anger. He hoped that TDP and BJP would rethink of their stand on special status. In Ongole, YSRC , CPI and CPM  staged demonstrations and ensured the bandh  was complete. Similarly, Vizianagaram and Anatapuram also observed the bandh peacefully.

“Naidu should revoke support to NDA”

0

Political tremors have been felt in Andhra Pradesh within hours after centre’s clarification that there was no possibility bestowing special status on Andhra Pradesh.

YSR Congress and CPI raised their voice against chief minister Naidu’s failure to persuade the centre to get the special category status which Andhra Pradesh needs badly to take the path industrialization.

“Chandrababu Niadu government should withdraw its support to the BJP-led NDA government as it has failed to live up to the promise the leaders made to the people of Andhra Pradesh in parliament on  Special Status,” party senior leader K Parthasarathi said.

“While the Centre has been apathetic on the issue, the State has failed to put up stir the Centre into action from biding time. The TDP should come out from the NDA coalition instead of mortgaging Telugu pride in Delhi,”  he said.

“It is high time for Chandrababu Naidu to give an ultimatum to the Centre on the special status issue as  the BJP leaders have changed their stance after coming to power,” he said.

He also said  YS Jagan Mohan Reddy had  been reminding the Centre on the issue at every available opportunity but it was  the TDP which was maintaining intriguing silence.

Stating that his party had also planned a dharna at Delhi on the issue, Parthasarathi demanded that Chandrababu Naidu should give an ultimatum to BJP.

Meanwhile the CPI has also intensified its attack on Naidu and gave a call for a state bandh on August 11. On Friday the Communist party has announced its plan of action to exert pressure on the centre. Party Andhra Pradesh secretary said they would organize Bus Yatra in all  13 districts from August 1 to 9 and wait for the response from the centre and the state. ” It we don’t get any positive signal about the special status we will organize the bandh on August 11,” Ramakrishna said.

He wondered as to how the BJP leaders assured special status for 10 years on the floor of the Rajya Sabha and go back once formed the government. He extended support to Jagan’s fight against NDA government.

Make street Battle Ground, not Twitter: CPI to Pawan

0

Battered Pawan Kalyan received support from unexpected quarters-Communist of India, Andhra Pradesh unit. But, the support was not unconditional.

Party secretary and former MLA K Ramakrishna said there was nothing wrong in Pawan criticizing TDP MPs for their failure in getting the special category state status to successor state of Andhra Pradesh. He, however, put a rider that Pawan Kalyan was partially correct. Before taking on TDP MPs for their ineffective role in Delhi, Pawan should not take light the dereliction on the part of union urban development minister M Venkaiah Naidu and finance minister Arun Jaitely.

Talking telugu360.com from Vijayawada, Ramakrishan said Pawan was correct when he talked of businessmen-MPs and their activities in Delhi. “It is unfortunate that Pawan Kalyan is being attacked by TDP MPs when the movie star gave a call to MPs to work towards getting special status to Andhra Pradesh,” the CPI secretary said adding that they had better step down when they were not able to influence the NDA government in bestowing special status on Andhra Pradesh.

“We are with Pawan Kalyan as long as he raises people’s issues. But, he should not spare anyone in criticizing role of state and central leaders for forsaking real issues. Pawan should not forget that he also played key role in getting the NDA elected at centre. You met Modi. You  interacted with Venkaiah Naidu. So, while talking about failure of Chittoor Naidu, you should not spare Nellore Naidu,” he said.

Recalling  what he called lofty talk of both Naidu’s at the time of debate on the AP Reorganization Bill, Ramakrishna said Venkaiah demanded compensatory special category status to Andhra Pradesh for ten years in Upper House while Chittoor Naidu, going further, demanded 15 year-long special status in Hyderabad.

The CPI leader also reminded Pawan  about his role in closely coordinating with Modi for BJPs’ victory.

“We welcome Pawan’s comments and condemn the attacks by TDP MPs. In the same breath we call upon him not to confine his fight to twitter or facebook. Join us for a joint fight in the streets if you are really serious about getting special category status to Andrha Pradesh or any other benefit assured in the bifurcation Act. Lest, people will doubt his commitment to the cause of Andhra Pradesh,” Ramakrishna said.
