DO we need a CM who moves behind curtains?

0

BJP AP unit president Daggubati Purandheswari made a hard-hitting comment against Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy on Friday. Addressing the party workers at Kakinada on the day, Purandheswari asked them whether the Andhra Pradesh people would require a chief minister who moves behind the curtains.

She alleged that the chief minister was going around in the state behind the curtains. She wondered why people would need such a chief minister. She asked the rank and file of the party to defeat the chief minister in the coming elections.

She also alleged that the chief minister was targeting his critics, particularly those from the opposition parties. She wondered how the opposition leaders would praise him and not criticise him. She said that the government was booking false cases against the opposition leaders for criticising the chief minister.

She alleged that the government was selling cheap liquor to the people and making money. Most part of the money earned through the sale of liquor was going into the pockets of the ruling party leaders, she said. She wanted an account for the liquor sales and blamed the government for not maintaining proper accounts.

She also blamed the government for the sale of sand in the state. Even sand has no accountability, she alleged and said that the ruling party leaders were making huge money out of it. She wanted regulation of the liquor and sand sales in the state.

Referring to the alliance with the Jana Sena, Purandheswari said that the BJP is still in alliance with the Jana Sena. She said that the Jana Sena did not break up its alliance with the BJP. However, when asked about the alliance with the TDP, she said that the issue would be decided by the party high command.

She also said that she had not asked the party for the ticket from any place yet. She said that she would contest wherever the party wanted her to contest. “My contest would be decided by the party high command,” she said.

Jana Sena is with BJP only, says Purandheswari

0

BJP AP unit president Daggubati Purandheswari said that the Jana Sena is in alliance with the BJP only. She said that the Jana Sena leadership had never said that they broke the alliance with the BJP.

Speaking to the party activists at Jangareddygudem in Eluru district on Saturday, Purandheswari recalled that the two parties have contested the Assembly elections in Telangana recently. She said that the two parties worked together in the just-concluded Assembly elections in the neighbouring Telangana state.

She said that the two parties would go together in the Andhra Pradesh Assembly elections as well. However, she asserted that the BJP national leadership would take care of the alliances with other parties.

Purandheswari said that she would soon visit the Polavaram Project. She said that the project is being constructed with the funds given by the Central government. The state government is only a monitoring and executing agency, she said.

She also reiterated that Amaravati is the capital of the state, and the BJP leadership is committed to it. The Central government had announced in the Parliament that Amaravati is the capital of Andhra Pradesh. The Union government had also given funds for the development of the capital city in Amaravati, Purandheswari said.

The BJP AP unit president asked the State government to release white paper on the construction of houses in the state. She alleged that the government is going with political vengeance and those in power have no time to think of welfare and development.

She alleged that the ruling YSR Congress leaders were exploiting the state. She said that the YSR Congress leaders were looting the exchequer. They were exploiting every resource in the state, she said and alleged that the money which should go to the exchequer was now going into the pockets of the ruling party leaders.

Purandheswari hits hard at Jagan govt

0

Former union Minister and BJP leader Daggubati Purandheswari on Thursday took serious count of the Jagan Mohan Reddy government in Andhra Pradesh. She spoke to the media at the party office after taking over as the party State unit president.

She said that the central government had been extending greater support to the state. Most of the schemes that the state government was implementing were from the Central government, she said.

She pointed out that the BJP government at the Centre had given Rs 6,000 to every farmer which is included in the Rythu Bharosa scheme implemented by the state government. She said that Jagan had promised to pay Rs 12,500 to every farmer and wondered why he was not paying the promised amount.

Purandheswari said that the Union government had paid Rs 20,000 crore to the state for the housing programme in the last nine years. She said that the government had not completed even 35 per cent of the housing scheme in the state.

The BJP new president further said that the Narendra Modi government was committed to provide financial support to the state government. The Centre is committed to the development of Andhra Pradesh even if the people don’t give a single seat to the BJP, she said.

She criticised the government for the bad roads in the state. She also blamed the government for its anti-investment policies. She said that investors were running away from the state. She also pointed out that no new investors have come to the state in the last four years.

Earlier in the day, Purandheswari visited her father late N T Rama Rao’s memorial in Hyderabad before arriving in Vijayawada. She was taken to the party office in the city from Gannavaram airport in a massive motor rally.

Party senior leaders including the outgoing president Somu Veerraju and former union minister Y S Chowdary, former chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy were among those who received Purandheswari at the party office.

Purandheswari meets Nadda, assures him of unwavering commitment

0

Former Union minister and BJP senior leader, Daggubati Purandhewari met BJP national president J P Nadda in Delhi on Thursday. She is on a tour to Amarnath along with her husband and former minister Dr Daggubati Venkateswara Rao.

Ending her trip, she arrived in the national capital and met the party national president. She thanked Nadda for reposing faith in her leadership. She was appointed as the president of the BJP AP unit recently.

After meeting Nadda, she tweeted on her twitter handle saying, “I assured him of my unwavering commitment towards the responsibility. Even as I work to strengthen the BJP in AP, I shall also work towards safeguarding the interests of AP and Andhrites.”

Ahead of the 2024 general election, the BJP leadership had changed the party presidents in the two Telugu States. Incumbent Bandi Sanjay was dropped and union minister G Kishen Reddy was appointed as the new president of the party in Telangana.

In Andhra Pradesh, the party had dropped former MLC Somu Veerraju as the party president and appointed Purandheswari as the new president.

It is alleged that Veerraju had failed to cement the relationship with the Jana Sena in the state, which is the alliance partner. Veerraju is also accused of being friendly with the ruling YSR Congress, which most of the BJP activists could not digest.

There were several complaints against Veerraju for his soft approach towards the YSR Congress in the state. Though national president Nadda and Union Home Minister Amit Shah have criticised the YSR Congress-led government in the state, it was alleged that Veerraju remained soft.

It is now to be seen how Purandheswari would lead and build the party in the state, particularly during the election season.

BJP gets ready for expansion in AP

0

Visakhapatnam: The Bharatiya Janata Party is all set to expand its base in Andhra Pradesh in the coming months. While the party leaders claim that the expansion is set to take off once the party chief Amit Shah visits the State in next month, it is said that the actual work at the ground level would begin only after the replacement of the party leadership in the State.

Amit Shah had during his earlier visit to the State in February 2016 had asked the party leaders to march forward expanding the party base in the State. He saw a gap for BJP in the State politics with the debacle of the Congress and the failure of YSR Congress to be the main Opposition. He had categorically stated that people were looking for a real alternative party in the State and wanted the leaders to cash in on the opportunity. However, things did not go as anticipated and the party remained where it started in the State.

The leaders like Somu Veerraju, Kanna Lakshminarayana, Daggubati Purandheswari and others have been trying to expand the party but it could not move an inch forward with Union Minister M Venkaiah Naidu favouring ties with the ruling Telugu Desam Party in the State and his loyalist and AP unit president K Haribabu not showing interest to displease TDP. Neither Venkaiah Naidu nor Haribabu acted on the complaints of the local leaders that the TDP was not allowing the party to expand its base. The leaders, at Bhimavaram meeting held in 2016, complained that the TDP leaders were not allowing them to take up membership drive in the villages fearing a threat.

Sources in the BJP said that the party national leadership is serious on the slow pace of expansion in the State. It is said that the leaders have complained against Venkaiah Naidu and Haribabu for not entertaining them to expand the base which was taken up seriously by the high command. It is for this reason, the party national leadership had decided to drop Haribabu and ask Venkaiah Naidu not to interfere with the AP affairs. This is expected to happen after Amit Shah’s visit to the State and the proposed national executive to be held in Visakhapatnam in June.

The party is also seriously weighing the candidatures of Somu Veerraju, Kanna Lakshminarayana and Purandheswari for the AP president post. A good number of party senior leaders are favouring Veerraju or Kanna who represent the Kapu community, a section of leaders are also in support of Purandheswari representing the dominant Kamma community in the State. It is to be seen how the BJP leadership would make its next move to expand its base in the State.
