    Independence day – Rana Daggubati the winner

    Three notable films competed at box office this Independence Day weekend. It has been one week, and we have a clear winner, Rana’s Nene Raju Nene Mantri.

    Released on August 11, Nene Raju Nene Mantri collected a worldwide distributor share of approx. 18 Cr in the first week, the highest among the three films. The film has also emerged as the highest solo grosser of Rana just within a week. Significant drop in collections post the 5-day extended weekend was observed, but the film was already ashore by then.

    NRNM collected $538K at US box office – 1.80 Cr distributor share, a Hit in overseas.

    Considering that the film was made on a budget of 12 Cr, and it recovered the complete investment through satellite rights itself, all the money coming from box office is pure profit.

    Mass director Boyapati Sreenu’s ‘Jaya Janaki Nayaka’ had a decent 1st week, collecting a worldwide share of 15.9 Cr. The film was trailing behind Nene Raju Nene Mantri till end of holiday weekend but started dominating it (albeit by insignificant margin) from the 6th day. In all possibility, the film is likely to end up around 20 Cr share, incurring 10 Cr loss to buyers, since theatrical rights were sold for around 30 Cr. The film was already released in deficit so the producer’s loss is huge.

    JJN collected $102K in the US, which converts to 30 lakhs share. The film was acquired in 1 Cr ratio so heavy loss to all the involved parties.

    Nithin’s LIE had a disastrous 1st week. By raking in a worldwide distributor share of 8.74 Cr in the 1st week, the film has been termed as an outright disaster. The film has started running with deficits in many centres post the 5-day weekend. Theatrical rights of the film are valued for more than 22 Cr, and the film won’t recover even 50 percent of the investment.

    LIE collected $229K (distributor share is 70 lakhs) from US. Since it was sold in 3 Cr ratio, the buyer lost huge money.

    Actor Nithiin is buoyed by the success of Telugu action-thriller “Lie” and says the film wouldn’t have been possible if Tamil star Arjun hadn’t agreed to play the antagonist.

    Although Arjun had starred in a few Telugu films, this was the first time he played the baddie.

    Talking about the overall positive response for “Lie”, Nithiin told IANS: “‘Lie’ has been a great journey. After the success of aAaAa’, I could have chosen an easy film. But I wanted to do something new and that’s why I took the tough route.”

    Directed by Hanu Raghavapudi, the film features Arjun in a pivotal role.

    “I thank him (Arjun) for accepting the villain’s role. If not for him, ‘Lie’ wouldn’t have been possible,” he said.

    The film released worldwide on August 11, and Nithiin admits the shaky start worried him.

    “On the first day, the film opened to mixed talk in India. Hanu and I were dejected. We were not sure what went wrong and we felt our hard work for the last one year went down the drain,” he said.

    From Saturday, “Lie” gradually picked up steam.

    “On Saturday, about 65 to 70 percent of common audiences, who watched the film, liked it. On Sunday, more than 85 percent of audiences liked it. Their response reflected in the numbers,” Nithiin added.

    Among the three releases last Friday, Rana’s Nene Raju Nene Manthri is holding well in the first weekend at the overseas box office. Both LIE and Jaya Janaki Nayaka are registering lukewarm collections.

    Nene Raju Nene Manthri, which had a good start with $ 141K on its premiers day and $ 121K on Friday, has remained steady and collected $ 125K on its first Saturday. The total gross now stands close to $ 400K. Rana’s intense performance and Kajal’s endearing act proved to be the selling points for the film. Teja is the director for the film.

    Nithiin’s LIE started off on a decent note with a $ 107K on Friday including premiers. The response at the box office is lukewarm as the film managed only $ 55K on its first Saturday. The film is likely to be a loss venture in overseas.

    Boyapati Srinu’s Jaya Janaki Nayaka has been rejected by overseas audience as the film is heading towards becoming a disaster. After taking a poor start on premiers day, there is hardly any notable improvement in the collections as the film is yet to be surpass the $ 100K mark. Till now, it has collected $ 60K ( approx). Trade pundits opine that the film will not recover the expenses for the distributors.

    As revealed in the trailer, Nithiin plays A.Satyam, who is fondly called as Asatyam as he never speaks truth. But expect the unexpected. Nithiin’s role is going to surprise the audiences for sure. There is an interesting twist related to his character and audiences would find it very interesting.

    The film opens with ‘Action King’ Arjun, who plays Padmanabham. He will not be seen as the typical villain we get to see in our movies. His role has a peculiar obsession and the film revolves around it. His face-off scenes with Nithiin are sure going to be a treat for the audiences.

    Negatives:

    The entertainment quotient in the second half is quite less compared to the first half as it focuses majorly on the mind-game between the hero and villain. The director takes time to enter the actual story. The mind-game may seem complex to a section of the audiences.

    “The film has met our expectations and we are happy with the output. It’s going to be a tough fight at the box office as two more films are set for release, but we are confident of our product,” Anil told IANS.

    Slated for release on Friday, “Lie” will compete with Rana Daggubati’s Telugu political thriller “Nene Raju, Nene Mantri” and Telugu actioner “Jaya Janaki Nayaka”.

    “Lie” stars Nithiin, Megha Akash and Arjun.

    “Audiences will see Nithiin in a never-before avatar and his role is going to surprise the audiences. There is an interesting twist with respect to his character and audiences are going to find it very interesting,” he said.

    A slew of films are gearing up to hit the screens this August. It will be a jam packed month with as many as eight films gearing up to test their luck at the box office in the span of four weeks.

    Starting with two low budget films on the first Friday( August 4th) – Nakshatram and Darshakudu, the box office tussle gets interesting with Ajith’s Vivegam( Vivekam in Telugu) set to release in the next week on August 10th. To cash in on the long weekend followed by Independence Day holiday, three films are going to slug it out at the box office on August 11th – Nithiin’s Lie, Rana’s NRNM and Boyapati’s Jai Janani Nayaki.

    Tapsee’s horror comedy Anando Brahmo is slated for a solo release on August 18th. Naga Chaitanya’s much awaited intense thriller Yuddham Sharanam is tentatively scheduled for August 25th release. Also, a couple of dubbing releases ( Tamil) might also add to the list of August releases.

    It would be an interesting fight at the box office between these low and medium budget films this August offering a good treat for movie buffs.

    Inside News: Angry With Hanu, Arjun Walked out of LIE Sets

    The teaser of Nithiin’s “LIE”, a Hanu Raghavapudi directorial, was recently released and it met the high expectations. Senior actor Arjun’s stylish screen presence was one of the highlights of the teaser. Coordination between actors and director is a must for delivering such a quality output, but inside news is that all was not well between Arjun and Hanu during the shooting of LIE in the US.

    As per sources, Arjun was irked by Hanu’s habit of writing scenes on sets. Even when the shot was ready and actors were waiting, Hanu used to write scenes or make changes to already written scenes, on sets. This obviously delayed the shoot schedules and resulted in wastage of actors’ time.

    While Nithiin used to remain silent in order not to offend his director, a miffed Arjun expressed his irritation on Hanu several times. The senior actor even staged a walkout from the sets on one occasion.     After scoring the biggest hit in his career with A..Aa, actor Nithiin is now coming with an interesting flick titled LIE which has talented filmmaker Hanu Raghavapudi at the helm. Coming from the stables of 14 Reels banner, LIE stars Mega Akash as the female lead and has action Arjun in a crucial role.

    The first teaser of the film was unveiled this evening. The 43 second teaser is racy with captivating narration from the start. Although the teaser doesn’t reveal much about the film’s plot, it hints that a ‘LIE’ is going to be very crucial in the accomplishment of a mission. The visuals are grand and the background score given by Mani Sharma scores above all. Nithiin is seen sporting a stylish look and so does Arjun. The teaser also hints that the film will be high on action elements.

    Needless to say, this intriguing teaser has furthered the expectations on the film which is gearing up to hit the screens in August.

Manisharma composed the music for this ‘Lie’ film.The first song from the film ‘Bombhaat’ has been released few hours ago in a grand function in USA. A mass beat with a folk touch, the song is completely convincing with some interesting lyrics.

    ‘Bombhaat’ is a mass romantic number which will impress the audience bigtime. Megha Akash played the female lead and the glimpses of the song reveal that it has been shot across the beautiful locales of USA. Ram Achanta, Gopi Achanta and Anil Sunkara bankrolled Lie on 14 Reels Entertainments banner. The film is all set for August 11th release.

The movie is said to be a romantic entertainer and the shoot of the film is currently mid way. On the occasion of Nithiin’s birthday, the first poster of the film has been out and the movie as been titled Lie. It comes with a caption ‘Love Intelligence Enmity’.

    Nithiin for the first time will be seen in a thick bearded look and moustache in Lie. Megha Akash is playing the female lead in the movie and veteran actor Arjun will essay a crucial role. The movie unit will shortly fly to USA and the shoot of Lie will take place there for 70 days with which the most of the film will be wrapped up.
