Manda Krishna’s Change of Course: Unraveling the U-Turn

1

Manda Krishna recently met with Congress leaders from Telangana, urging them to draft a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding the categorization of SC reservations. He emphasized that his Madiga Reservation Porata Samiti (MRPS) would decide whether to support Congress based on their response. However, this action has sparked confusion and debate among those who have been following his trajectory. Here are the details.

The Background of MRPS and SC Reservation Categorization:

The Indian Constitution introduced reservations for SCs, STs, and BCs due to various factors, such as historical oppression for SCs, distinct lifestyles for STs, and economic backwardness for BCs. The allocation was 15% for SCs, 25% for BCs, and 7.5% for STs. However, in the 1990s, Manda Krishna initiated an agitation asserting that within the 15% reservation for SCs, the Mala caste was disproportionately benefiting, while the Madiga and other sub-castes were lagging behind. He attributed this to geographical distribution. Coastal Andhra Pradesh had a higher concentration of the Mala community, while Telangana and Rayalaseema had more Madiga and mixed SC populations. As the coastal region was more developed, this disparity was mirrored in SC reservations. Consequently, the TDP government subdivided the 15% SC reservation, allocating 7% for Madiga, 6% for Mala, and 2% for other castes. However, this was later overturned by the Supreme Court.

Manda Krishna’s Stance During the Telangana Movement:

Despite the Supreme Court’s ruling, Manda Krishna continued advocating for SC sub-categorization, urging political parties to enact legislation in Parliament. He garnered support from various parties and intellectuals. Interestingly, during the Telangana movement, he publicly stated that sub-categorization would be unnecessary if Telangana were granted statehood. His rationale was that the people of Telangana wouldn’t have to compete with those from coastal Andhra, negating the need for a separate law on SC reservation categorization. This argument proved valid, and Telangana was eventually formed.

The Puzzle of Manda Krishna’s U-Turn:

However, Manda Krishna’s current demand for Telangana Congress to write a letter to PM Modi regarding sub-categorization raises perplexing questions. Given that Madiga is the dominant SC population in Telangana, sub-categorization wouldn’t benefit their interests. In fact, it may negatively impact their interests. If Manda Krishna wanted to press this issue, it would have made more sense to address it with Andhra Pradesh parties. Therefore, his decision to approach Telangana Congress is puzzling. It’s possible that he is not inclined to openly support Congress and has instead shifted the onus onto them. His meeting with Modi a month ago lends weight to this interpretation.

To be frank, as Manda Krishna himself acknowledged during the Telangana movement, the creation of a separate Telangana state effectively addressed the issue that MRPS was championing in Telangana. This issue almost faded away in AP as well. Now, the question remains whether Manda Krishna can continue exerting the same political influence he wielded as a pressure group a couple of decades ago.

Why CM or YCP MLAs did not condole Kathi Mahesh death: Manda Krishna

1

Controversial film Katti Mahesh’s Death also has become controversial now. Dalit leader Manda Krishna found fault with Andhra Pradesh CM Jagan and YSRCP MLAs for not condoling his death. It seems Mahesh family members are also of the same opinion. Details as follows.

Manda Krishna, who also hails from the same community as Kathi Mahesh, demanded an enquiry into Kathi Mahesh death. AP government obliged his demand and ordered a police inquiry. Police questioned the driver and found that Kathi Mahesh also was wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident but it was not properly tied. The driver also revealed that Kathi Mahesh was sleeping at the time of the accident. With this, police came to the conclusion that the reason for the severe injuries for Mahesh is not wearing a seatbelt in the proper way.

Meanwhile, Manda Krishna stated that YSRCP leaders or CM did not express any condolence on Mahesh’s death. He reminded that no YSRCP MLAs or leaders attend his funeral. It is known news that Kathi Mahesh strongly supported YSRCP right from the beginning. It looks like even his family members are also of the opinion that YSRCP has used him for their own political benefit but none from the party attended his funeral. Party leaders did not even tweet expressing solidarity with the family.

We need to wait and see how YSRCP responds to Manda Krishna’s statements.

Manda Krishna demands judicial enquiry into Kathi Mahesh death

1

It seems controversy and Kathi Mahesh are inseparable even after his death. Manda Krishna , prominent Dalit leader, demanded judicial enquiry with sitting judge of High Court on Kathi Mahesh death. Details as follows.

It is known news that, Kathi Mahesh met with accident two weeks ago and he passed away in Apollo hospital during the treatment. Even though Kathi Mahesh had severe injuries , his driver did not have any major injuries and is alive and healthy. Reportedly, the reason for this is that, driver was wearing seatbelt while Kathi Mahesh was not. However Dalit leader Manda Krishna ,who also hails from the same community as Kathi Mahesh, expressed doubts over the death of Kathi Mahesh. He opened conspiracy angle in this issue as he told that Kathi Mahesh has several enemies in both the Telugu states because of his comments on various issues. He added that, as per the medical reports couple of days before his death, his condition was stable. Based on these two facts, he is suspecting some conspiracy behind Kathi Mahesh death and demanding Judicial enquiry by sitting High Court judge.

We need to wait and see whether government will respond to his demand.

Manda Krishna extends support to Ravela Kishore Babu

0

Manda Krishna, who fought for SC categorization in Andhra Pradesh, extended his support to janasena MLA candidate Ravela Kishore Babu. Manda Krishna lambasted Chandra Babu for applying lose-lose strategy on Ravela Kishore Babu.

It is known news that, in 2014 elections Ravela Kishore Babu contested from TDP and became minister in Chandrababu Naidu cabinet. But later he was removed from the ministry. Also TDP cadres insulted Kishore Babu. So he resigned to his MLA post and joined janasena party. Now , from the same prathipadu constituency , he is contesting again on janasena ticket. Chandrababu Naidu is fielding Dokka Manikya Varaprasad from this constituency. YSR CP is fielding Sucharitha again.

Manda Krishna responded on the politics of his constituency and told that he will be supporting Ravela Kishore Babu. He added that, Kishore Babu belongs to Madiga community, Ysrcp candidate sucharitha belongs to Mala community and in 2014, irrespective of parties, all madiga voters voted for Kishore Babu while all Mala voted for Sucharitha. Still kishor Babu won the election only with 7000 votes. Now in 2019, Chandrababu intentionally fielding manikya varaprasad who is also from Madiga community here so that the votes of this community will be split between TDP and Janasena and Kishore Babu will lose. Manda Krishna allegated that chandrababu is ready to have YSR CP candidate win from here but not Ravela Kishore Babu as Kishore Babu will question Chandrababu Naidu in assembly, if he wins.

We will have to wait and see whether Manda Krishna support will help Ravela Kishore Babu.

Manda Krishna alleges murder conspiracy, police suspect Maoists visited the capital

0

Manda Krishna Madiga contended that Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu failed to fulfil the demand of categorisation of SC reservations. It is known that the police diffused the Madiga Reservation Porata Samiti’s (MRPS) Kurukshetra last week at Acharya Nagarjuna University.

Speaking at Warangal, Manda Krishna said that there is no security in Andhra Pradesh and alleged that someone is conspiring to kill him. He said that wherever he goes some cars are following him. He claimed that MRPS is functioning in 10 states across the country and said that he can roam freely in all the states except Andhra Pradesh as Chandrababu is restricting him.

He alleged that the TDP government has threatened the Madiga MLAs to refrain from attending Kurukshetra meeting. Manda Krishna said that he would approach court as he doesn’t have freedom and protection. He demanded Telangana Chief Minister to clear the conspiracy against him as he is aware of the happenings.

On the other hand, police suspect Maoists may have visited Amaravati on the pretext of the Kurukshetra meeting.

As per the reports in The Hindu, Director-General of Police N. Sambasiva Rao said “We suspect that some open cadre and activists of the CPI (Maoist), who are not in the limelight, might have entered Amaravati. But top Maoist cadre or those most wanted did not enter the region. We are verifying the CCTV footage and drone pictures captured on Friday”.
