Nothing objectionable in ‘Manikarnika’, say film’s makers

0

The makers of “Manikarnika”, a biopic on the valiant Rani Laxmibai, on Tuesday said the movie neither distorts historical facts nor does it portray anything objectionable.

The comment comes after Brahmin outfit Sarva Brahman Mahasabha demanded the makers to share complete details of the film’s story to rule out any tampering with facts.

Kamal Jain, the film’s producer, said in a statement: “As responsible filmmakers, we have taken utmost care while portraying Rani Laxmibai’s character and have consulted historians and scholars. Rani Laxmibai was a freedom fighter and one of the most respected leaders our country has seen. She is a symbol of valour and the film’s story depicts the same.”

“Manikarnika” features the fearless Kangana Ranaut in the lead role.

“The film doesn’t portray anything objectionable about Rani Laxmibai and nor has the film distorted the history in anyway. The film showcases Rani Laxmibai in a most respectful manner and is an inspirational story which every kid and every member of a family would love to see.

“We as country would be proud to showcase the bravery, courage and heroism of Rani Laxmibai to the world.”

The makers have said they are open to sharing the script with “authorised persons” who have any “doubts” about the movie, which is a tribute to Rani Laxmibai.

Suresh Mishra, President, Sarva Brahman Mahasabha, wrote a letter to the makers, saying the film’s shooting will “not be allowed in Rajasthan till the complete information on the historical ground of the story is made available”.

The organisation has also accused the film producer for “tampering with historical facts”, which Mishra said, will “not be tolerated and a massive protest will be staged in case their request is not paid heed too”.

Meanwhile, not satisfied the clarification from the filmmakers, representatives of the Mahasabha have decided to call on Rajasthan Governor Kalyan Singh on Wednesday and submit a memorandum requesting him to take from the producers an affidavit which declares that the film does not distort historical facts.

Speaking to IANS, Mishra said: “We want to ensure that any film which is being shot in Rajasthan does not distort historical facts and hence we want the state government to act accordingly.”

He said that a representative board of the Mahasabha would meet the Governor and request Rajasthan government to make arrangements for obtaining an affidavit from the producers, outlining the story line of the film and also confirming that it did not tamper with the historical facts.

The news about “Manikarnika” comes soon after “Padmaavat” emerged successful following a long-stretched battle with Rajput outfit Shri Rajput Karni Sena over alleged distortion of facts — a contention that the movie’s producers had been denying since its shooting began.

“Padmaavat” was not allowed to be shot in Rajasthan after its director Sanjay Leela Bhansali was assaulted in Jaipur. The film also did not release in the state.

Now the latest movie to join the list is Manikarnika which is based on the life story of Rani Laxmibai – The Queen of Jhansi. Sarva Brahmin Mahasabha, a brahmin outfit demanded a ban on the film. They requested the Government of Rajasthan to stop the film’s shoot and they demanded the makers to share the complete story of Manikarnika.

“The film doesn’t have anything objectionable about Rani Laxmibai and we have not distorted the history” confirmed Kamal Jain, the film’s producer. Sarva Brahmin Mahasabha wanted the shoot of the film to be kept on hold till the entire story of the film will be shared. The film is being shot at Malsisar town in Jhunjhunu currently. ‘Manikarnika’ challenging, exciting debut for Nihaar Pandya

0

Nihaar Pandya, who is making his Bollywood debut with the Kangana Ranaut-starrer “Manikarnika”, will be seen essaying the pivotal role of Baji Rao II.

“For me to debut as an iconic character of Baji Rao II is challenging and exciting. To get every nuance of the character perfect I underwent multiple acting workshops and an extreme makeover.

“The strenuous war scenes of the film required me to learn horse riding and sword fighting from Nicholas Powell, one of the best Hollywood action directors who has directed action in films like ‘Braveheart’ and ‘Gladiator’,” Nihaar said.

“Manikarnika”, produced by Kamal Jain and Zee Studios and directed by Kriah Jagarlamudi, will see Nihaar share screen space with acting powerhouses like Kangana, Atul Kulkarni and Danny Denzongpa.

“I’ve just returned from the film’s shoot in Jaipur and I’m looking forward to the next schedule,” he said.

In July, Nihaar had accidentally hit Kangana’s forehead with his aluminium sword, causing a deep wound.

Recalling the incident, Nihaar said: “Kangana is a thorough professional.. She is different as soon as the camera is on. I’m glad she treated the accident so well and continued shooting. I was troubled more by questions thrown at me from the media. She was very accommodating and eased the situation as it was a timing issue leading to the accident.”

Writer-director Vijayendra Prasad, who has penned the story of Kangana Ranaut-starrer upcoming epic drama “Manikarnika”, says the war episodes will be the biggest highlight of the film.

Being directed by Krish, the film will be an epic biographical drama about Rani Laxmibai of Jhansi.

Kangana plays Queen of Jhansi in the film, which will be high on action.

Will Balayya Give Hand to ‘Legend’ Producer Again?

0

Will Balayya Babu give hand to the producer who bankrolled his ‘Legend’ movie for the second time? The current scenario makes everyone think so.

Balayya’s ‘Legend’ was produced by Sai Korrapati in association with 14 Reels. At that time, Balayya gave his word to Korrapati to give him his 100th film. The producer then started holding discussions with several directors especially with Boyapati Srinu to prepare a suitable script for Balayya’s 100th film. In the end, Krish approached Balayya with the subject of GPSK and the project materialized without much ado.

Korrapati at least wanted to be a co-producer of GPSK. Krish however was reluctant to partner with anyone else and he convinced Balayya to let his home banner alone deal with the production work. Since the film was a high budgeted historical film and also because Krish was putting his heart and soul in the film, Balayya gave him a free hand and politely sidelined Korrapati.

The ‘Legend’ maker was however optimistic about producing the launch pad of Balayya’s son Mokshagna at least. He has been waiting to get his hands on this project for a long time. Now, possibly to his misfortune, Krish has once again entered the scene as Balayya finalized him to launch his son. If Krish wants to produce this film, then Korrapati will be second time unlucky. He already lost Balayya’s landmark 100th film and now he is on the verge of losing Mokshagna’s debut film too.

Said to be a love story, the debut project of Mokshagna will get on track after Krish is done with the historical Hindi film ‘Manikarnika’ starring Kangana Ranaut in titular role.

Doing sword-fighting stunts myself in ‘Manikarnika’: Atul Kulkarni

0

Actor Atul Kulkarni has been roped in to play Ramchandra Pandurang Tope, better know as Tatya Tope in upcoming film “Manikarnika – The Queen of Jhansi”. He says he is doing all his sword-fighting stunts himself.

Directed by Krish, the film features actress Kangana Ranaut as Rani Laxmibai.

“After Kangana in the title role, Atul has the most powerful role in ‘Manikarnika’. He has been learning horse-riding and sword-fighting alongside Kangana and since they are both shown to be fighting from the same side in the war, the two of them spent a lot of time getting into the combined collaborative mode,” a source said.

Atul, who earlier played Ramprasad Bismil in Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s “Rang De Basanti”, said: “This is something I’ve never done before. I am doing all my sword fighting stunts myself. My body-double hired to do the stunts just sits around on the sets doing nothing.”
