Mohanlal joins Superstar’s Next

Malayalam Superstar Mohanlal is busy with a lot of films in his home language. He is one actor who signs films in other languages if he is thrilled with the assignment. There are rumors that Mohanlal may be a part of Superstar Rajinikanth’s next film Jailer. Confirming the reports, the makers confirmed the same. Nelson is the director and the shoot is happening now. Sun Pictures, the makers of Jailer shared the look of Mohanlal from the film. This is the first time, Rajinikanth and Mohanlal are sharing screen in their career.

There are reports that Mohanlal will have an extended cameo which would be an important one. Mohanlal also joined the sets of the film. Ramya Krishna plays an important role in the film and Anirudh is scoring the music. Jailer will have its release this year.

Lakshmi Manchu’s Malayalam debut with Mohan Lal grabs attention

Lakshmi Manchu has announced her Malayalam debut with Mohan Lal. Lakshmi is all set to share the screen with Mohan Lal in his upcoming movie titled ‘Monster’.

The ‘Gundello Godari’ actress, who even commenced shooting for ‘Monster’ in Kochi, seems excited about her Malayalam debut. The actress mentions her role as challenging, as she also hints at “the various shades” of her role in ‘Monster’.

Sharing Mohan Lal’s poster from ‘Monster’, the actress wrote, “The cat is finally out of the bag!! New Language, New Genre!!! Super duper excited to be shooting My first Malayalam film with the one and only!! Cannot wait to showcase what we’ve got in store for you. Having the best time shooting this film Mohan Lal”.

The movie ‘Monster’ is being directed by Vysakh, which is being produced by Anthony Perumbavoor under the banner of Aashirvad Cinemas. The makers commenced the shooting on November 10, and are to complete the current shooting schedule soon. On the occasion of its launch, Mohanlal shared the first look poster.

Mohan Lal is featured in a turban-clad look in the poster, as he will be playing the role of Lucky Singh in the movie. Lakshmi would feature in an important role, in the Vysakh directorial, which is slated to hit the screens in early 2022.

Lakshmi was last seen in Netflix’s original anthology series ‘Pitta Kathalu’. Earlier, Lakshmi had drawn attention for the movies ‘Ananganaga Oka Dheerudu’, ‘Gundello Godari’, ‘Chandamama Kathalu’, and more.

Drishyam 2 Review: Mohanlal’s magic all over

Drishyam happened to be the biggest hit of 2013 in Malayalam cinema and the film was remade in all the Indian languages. The team is back with the sequel titled Drishyam 2. Mohanlal, Meena reprised their roles in the sequel and Drishyam 2 starts where the first part of the film ends. The village gets a new IG who investigates the murder of Varun (son of the previous cop Geetha Prabhakar). The family of Georgekutty (Mohanlal) is well prepared for the investigation.

Georgekutty who was a cable operator in the village owns a movie theatre now. Though there was not a single clue about Varun’s murder, the village still speculates his murder related to Georgekutty’s family. His elder daughter Anju (Ansiba Hassan) who was in pain suffers from epilepsy. What happens next forms the story of Drishyam 2. The film is now streaming on Amazon Prime.

Like the prequel, Drishyam 2 too is based on a drama with some unexpected twists that unfold at the right time. Mohanlal tops the show and he looks subtle with his performance throughout. He adds life to the role of Georgekutty. For most of the time, his expressions speak out as he has little to speak. Meena plays well as a struggling mother and wife in the sequel. Murali Gopi gets a challenging role as the cop Thomas Bastin. The first half of the film looks convincing and keeps decent expectations on the second half.

The second half of Drishyam 2 lives up to the expectations because of the performances and the twists. Jeethu Joseph, the writer and the director is the real hero of the film. The court scenes should have been better and the minor flaws will not be remembered by the audience. Both the daughters Ansiba Hassan and Esther Anil did their jobs well. The only song was shot well and the director managed to get out the best from all the departments.

On the whole, Drishyam 2 lives up to the expectations and is a perfect sequel. It is worth watching.

Kerala HC serves notice to Mohanlal in ivory case

The Kerala High Court on Tuesday served a notice to superstar Mohanlal on a petition that the permission granted to him to keep elephant tusks should be cancelled.

The Chief Justice S. Manikumar after hearing the petition filed by a former Forest Service official ordered the notice to be served to the superstar and posted the case for further hearing after two weeks.

The case first surfaced in 2011, following an income tax raid at the superstar’s home in Kochi, when it came to light that he was in possession of elephant tusks and the Forest department took up the case.

This issue has now surfaced in the High Court, after the Forest department filed their chargesheet against the superstar in the case in September at the Perumbavoor CJM Court.

Incidentally, Mohanlal in his affidavit pointed out that this case does not have any merit as the Forest department has already issued an ownership certificate of the ivory to him.

And since he is a popular figure, he said petitions are filed so as to make news and get publicity. The action of the Forest department to file a chargesheet, almost after seven years has been done with a mischievous intent, the actor said.

According to the rules, possession of elephant tusks by anyone is against the Forest and Wildlife Act.

Actually Mohanlal tweeted yesterday about his meeting with Modi. as per his tweet he met Modi to brief him about the social activities taken up by his Foundation. he tweeted, “It has been a privilege to meet our Honourable Prime Minister Shri. @narendramodi ji on this auspicious day of Janmashtami. Briefed him about @ViswaSanthiFndn and our multifaceted social initiatives. ”

After his meeting with Modi speculations started on his political entry. Shashi Tharoor from Congress contests from Thiruvananthapuram Lok Sabha constituency. As per the rumours BJP is planning to field Mohanlal against Shashi Tharoor from this constituency.

It is known news that Suresh Gopi another Malayalam star is already in BJP. We will have to wait and see how to are these rumours.

NTR accepts Mohan Lal’s challenge, nominates Charan and Mahesh

After Union Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore came up with an innovative initiative ‘ Fitness Challenge’ to promote healthy lifestyle among Indians, several bigwigs from various fields have taken up the challenge and the idea has now become a rage in social media.

Already many South Indian filmstars took this initiative on a serious note and posted videos in social media. Yesterday, stalwart actor Mohan Lal too joined the bandwagon and he nominated NTR to accept his challenge.

Responding to Mohan Lal’s challenge, NTR has now posted a video in which he was seen sweating out in his personal gym lifting a heavy weight with his legs. NTR has nominated Kalyan Ram, Mahesh Babu and Ram Charan to accept his challenge. He also included Koratala Siva and Rajamouli in the list.

He tweeted –

Story:

Janatha Garage story has depth and character in it. It has an underlying message; an intense drama blended it in unique style.

Flashback: Set in 1980s, Satyam Garu ( Mohanlal) runs a mechanic shop named ‘Janatha Garage’ which also functions as a Praja Darbaar in Hyderabad. Eventually, it becomes thorn in the flesh of crooked politicians and they kill the brother of Satyam. Satyam sends off his brother’s little kid to Mumbai to be with his relatives.

Present day: The kid grows up as Anand (Tarak) who is an environmental science student. Anand is very passionate about nature and educates the people around him to protect the Mother Nature. Knowing that Anand has developed rivalry with a local MLA in Mumbai , Anand family sends him to Hyderabad for temporary visit, fearing backlash from the MLA. Meanwhile at Hyderabad, Janatha Garage activities slow down due to attack on Satyam (Mohanlal). Due to an incident, Anand meets Satyam and after realizing Anand’s conviction and potentiality Satyam invites him to join Janatha Garage. Anand joins hands with Satyam and rest of the story is how both of them together help the needy people in the society.

Analysis:

Janatha Garage is an author-backed story that has been told with conviction. In Telugu, rarely we see movies in which strong characterizations overpower the stardom and Janatha Garage is one such movie. This movie becomes more intense when such characterizations are backed by brilliant actors such as Mohanlal and NTR. These two blessed artists, with their screen presence and acting prowess, will be appreciated by one and all in this movie. Koratala siva’s directorial skill and dialogues competed with each other for major part of the movie. Government office scene with Rajeev Kanakala is a testament to this. Both dialogues and execution are top-notch in this scene. Unni Mukundan, Saikumar did justice to their roles. Nitya Menen and Samantha got very short roles as most of the drama and screen time has been shared between NTR and Mohanlal.

However, the narration is slower throughout and few scenes are hackneyed. First half is just OK as the director tried to set the ground for emotional second half. In second half, from start until the item song … the heroism elevation, Rajiv Kanakala episode, Jayaho Janatha Song followed by Pakka Local item song and all worked out well. Staring with the ‘City bomb blasts’ episode, the director lost grip on the narration and from there the movie goes down hill.

The last 30 minutes of the movie is a huge let down. With very routine and abrupt climax, movie comes to an end. Audience expecting a gripping emotional movie with ensemble cast will feel disappointed coming out of the theater.

When it comes to NTR Jr., What a transformation !? from a mass hero to all class appealing roles, the way he molded himself is commendable.

Songs:

Highlight Song of the movie is Kajal’s ‘Pakka Local’. It was choreographed well, both NTR and Kajal danced superbly for this song. ‘Pranamam Pranamam’ and ‘Rock on Bro..’ songs do appeal to class audience. Artwork in ‘Apple Beauty’ song is super classy and this stylish number appeals to youth. Montage song ‘Jayaho Janatha.’ was placed at right time, elevates the emotion.

Positives:

  • Intense characterization of Mohanlal as Satyam
  • Equally brilliant portrayal of Anand character by NTR
  • Koratala Siva’s thoughtful dialogues
  • Excellent background music by DSP
  • Cinematography by Thirunavukarasu is top-notch
  • Superb star casting – Even for insignificant roles, experienced and best in class artists been roped in
  • All Songs
  • Message oriented movie, which highlights importance of Environmental friendlyness

Negatives:

  • Last 25 minutes of the movie is dull
  • Narration is slow paced at times
  • Less comedy scenes
  • Mohanlal’s son character is not well established
  • No proper role for heroines

Verdict:

Janatha Garage first half is decent and second half is better except the climax. One must appreciate the Star heroes NTR , Mohanlal and the director for believing in the subject and sticking to the core point of the movie. For NTR fans, there are ample heroism elevation elements for their delight. Overall, Koratala Siva has missed a blockbuster with a weak climax. You may watch it once with ease.
