Nimmagadda meets Governor, complains against AP govt

0

Former state election commissioner Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar on Thursday met Governor Justice S Abdul Nazeer at Raj Bhavan. He lodged a complaint with the government against the state government alleging that the government was spending money for the ruling party activities.

Nimmagadda had formed the Citizen for Democracy Forum in Andhra Pradesh and had been fighting on citizens’ issues. He gave a representation to the Governor and the Election Commission on the fake voters list earlier.

Now, after meeting the Governor, he told the media that the State government had issued a GO No 7 giving funds for the ruling party programmes. He said that the government and the ruling party are not the same and maintained that they have to go hand in hand. However, spending government money on the ruling party programme is not accepted, he said.

He wanted the officials to maintain decorum and follow principles of democracy. He opposed the use of government funds for the political party programme. He also found fault with the officials participating in the political party programme.

He said that he had requested the Governor to look into the issue and stop spending government money for the party programmes. He said he requested the Governor to ensure that there is governance in the state that truly follows the Constitution.

Nimmagadda also opposed the idea of removing votes from the list. While stating that one person having two votes is wrong, he wanted the officials to give a notice to the person and ask for his choice of vote. He felt that people should be given the option to choose where they wanted to have their vote.

Nimmagadda also said that he would once again look into the voters list and give representation to the election commission if any irregularities are found.

Why EC is delaying Tirupati, Nagarjunasagar bypolls?

0

It’s been exactly six months since sitting YSRCP MP from Tirupati Lok Sabha constituency Balli Durga Prasad Rao died.

However, the Election Commission of India is yet to announce the schedule for Tirupati Lok Sabha bypoll.

As per norms, the bypoll should be held within six months of the seat falling vacant.

Durga Prasad died due to corona on September 16, 2020.

It’s exactly six months today (March 16, 2021) since Tirupati Lok Sabha seat is lying vacant.

Similarly, the Nagarjunasagar Assembly seat is lying vacant since December 1, 2020.

It’s more than three and a half months since sitting TRS MLA from Nagarjunasagar seat Nomula Narasimhaiah died.

The EC has kept even this bypoll pending.

When EC announced the schedule for Assembly polls in five states including Tamil Nadu, West Bengal etc on February 26, 2021, everyone expected that it will also release schedule for Tirupati and Nagarjunasagar bypolls as well.

But EC kept both pending without citing any reasons for delay.

Strangely, the EC had announced schedule for the Kanyakumari Lok Sabha bypoll in Tamil Nadu and Malappuram Lok Sabha bypoll in Kerala along with Assembly polls.

The EC’s silence on Tirupati and Nagarjunasagar bypolls is keeping all parties in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh on tenterhooks.

YSRCP unhappy with Ramesh ‘e-Watch’ on poll excesses

0

The YCP Ministers have raised hell against the proposed ‘e-Watch’ app to receive complaints on the offences in the panchayat elections. They have complained that this app was developed not in the office of the State Election Commission (SEC) but in the office of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP). Other than that, the YCP leaders could not come out with any valid reasons why they were objecting to the app.

Clearly enough, the Chief Minister and his Ministers are upset over the manner in which SEC Ramesh Kumar is going ahead with his novel plans to ensure a free and fair election. Amid this controversy, Ramesh is all set to launch this new app at his office formally today.

Reports say that the ‘e-Watch’ app of the AP State Election Commission will accept complaints from all if there were any election excesses. Any threats, intimidations, kidnappings, obstructions, etc can be posted and complained on the app itself.

While the ruling YCP leaders are terming this as yet another conspiracy of Ramesh and Chandrababu Naidu, the rival leaders say that the Election Commissions in many States were having such apps already. The ruling party leaders and the Government should not create obstacles for such measures aimed at transparency.

Institutions more important than individuals: Ramesh Kumar

3

Former State Election Commissioner Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar has given a rare and bold response in the wake of the latest orders of the AP High Court. He told the media that he is taking over charge as the SEC once again in accordance with the court instructions. He asserted that the constitutional institutions are always more important than individuals. Values are permanent.

Mr. Ramesh Kumar further said that he would begin the local bodies elections process. Like before, he would discharge his duties in an impartial and straightforward manner. In the process, the opinions and suggestions of all political parties would be taken into consideration. The sensational High Court order today came as a morale booster for Ramesh Kumar who came under serious attack from the ruling YSRCP cadres.

At one time, Ramesh Kumar and his family members even received threatening calls. Following this, he emailed a letter to the Union Government seeking security from the Central agencies. He also sought permission for functioning from Hyderabad, Capital of Telangana, to conduct the local polls in Andhra Pradesh. Many petitions were filed the court against arbitrary removal of Ramesh Kumar. Today, the court revoked the orders issued by the Jagan Reddy government and also set aside the Ordinance with regard to the same.
