Deeply hurt Balakrishna invites fans for a special meet

Nandamuri Balakrishna is extremely unhappy after the prestigious project on his father and iconic actor NTR failed badly at box office as audience vehemently rejected the two parts directed by Krish. The embarrassing performance of Kathanayakudu and Mahanayakudu shocked the whole team of NTR and trade circles. Now, Balakrishna has decided to do some post-mortem on this unexpected failure.

As per the reports from reliable sources, Balakrishna has called for a meeting with fans presidents of all areas in Telugu states very soon. It is learnt that close well-wishers of Balakrishna have advised him to meet fans to discuss about the possible reasons for this outright rejection of his father’s biopic. He is going to discuss about what actually went wrong with their plans and what better could have done to this biopic. He also wants to know about their feelings about his idea of making a biopic at this point of time. The meet is expected to take place very soon in Hyderabad and fans presidents from all over the Telugu states will be present at it.

On work front, Balakrishna is going to commence shooting for Boyapati Srinu’s film from Summer. This is the third time he is going to work with Boyapati after Simha and Legend.

NTR biopic : Who is to blame for the debacle ?

The prestigious biopic on legendary actor NTR turned out to be an epic disaster at box office as both parts failed to draw the attention of audience. When the project was announced last year, there were a lot of expectations in audience and trade circles and Balakrishna himself turned producer with this film. Teja was initially roped in to direct this biopic, but due to personal reasons he backed out in the last minute and director Krish came on board. Krish has completed the film in less than 100 working days and released the film in time. The first part ended as an embarrassing flop despite getting decent reviews from critics. The second part turned out to be a colossal disaster as it failed to recover the theatre expenses in all areas.

So, who is to be blamed for this huge disaster and are the reasons behind for it ?

1) Balakrishna is the first person who is to be blamed for this embarrassment. Rather than making this film as a tribute to his father, he cashed in on the huge pre release buzz in trade circles and sold it for exorbitant prices in all areas. At the rates sold by the producers, the film would never become a hit even if it had got good talk. Balakrishna could have released the film on his own, but he preferred to make money out of this prestigious project. Also, Balakrishna should let go the role of young NTR to some other actor. If he really wanted the film to become a box office hit, he should let go the role of young NTR to some other actor. But, his ego didn’t let him do that. He himself played the character and got criticized for not looking the part as young NTR.

2) Krish should also equally share the blame for the debacle of this project. His lackluster directional skills and hasty research work on the legendary actor are the major reasons for the failure. After Teja’s sudden exit, Krish joined the project and took very little time to do research about NTR. For the biopic on Savitri, the makers of Mahanati did profound research and collected a lot of unknown details from different sources. But, that didn’t happen for NTR biopic. Krish jumped board from Manikarnika and immediately started shooting after making some changes to the script. He finished the shoot in very less time and hardly did any research on NTR’s political journey. There are no unknown facts and details about NTR in this biopic. Krish and his team should have done more efforts to garner information from contemporary politicians and journalists of NTR’s time.

3) Even as a producer, Balakrishna failed to do justice to this biopic. He tried to squeeze the last penny from distributors though the first part turned out to be a huge loss venture. Many of the distributors are NTR fans and they bought the rights even though the producers quoted high prices. The production house didn’t budge an inch even after the first part tanked heavily and tried to sell the second part for hefty prices. Only after the media highlighted the struggle of distributors, Balakrishna has decided to compensate for the losses. Also, the greed for making money out of NTR’s craze has made the producers and director to come up with a two part biopic and this idea has backfired completely. They should have made this as a single film and the result might have been a different one.

4) Another reason why the biopic failed is due to lack of honesty in the story. Some of the important phases of NTR life have been sidelined by Krish and Balakrishna just to fit the agenda. This has resulted in outright rejection from audience.

5) Promotional strategy did more harm than good to this biopic. Krish and his team revealed all important characters much earlier than film’s release and they failed to generate any interest on the big screen. After the first part ended as a flop, the makers were short of plans on how to promote the second part and this has led to poor buzz in audience.

On the whole, all these factors led to the causing of huge embarrassment for such a prestigious project. Balakrishna has failed to make this as a tribute because of his ego as an actor and due to his greed for money as a producer. Director Krish got carried away by the hype and made a cursory research work about the legendary actor only to share the blame for delivering one of the forgettable films in his career.

NTR Kathanayakudu – Celebration of a Legend’s life

NTR Kathanayakudu review

Telugu360 Rating 3/5

Biopic on legendary actor NTR is one of the eagerly awaited films this year. NTR’s son and actor Balakrishna is portraying the lead role and an array of prominent stars are playing crucial roles in this biopic which is made in two parts. The first part, titled as NTR Kathanayakudu, will trace the inspiring journey of NTR as actor and the second part will highlight his political success.

Director Krish is the man behind this prestigious project and Balakrishna donned the producer’s hat for the first time. Let’s find out if the first part of NTR biopic is worth the hype and hysteria or not.

Story:

The key element for any biopic is picking up the ‘right span of the life’ to narrate. ‘NTR-Kathanayakudu ‘takes off showcasing Legendary actor NTR’s first job as sub-registrar at Vijayawada, swiftly moves on to his quest for cinema roles in Madras. The film ends at announcing historical TeluguDesam party in 1982.  The rise of NTR’s cinema career, circumstances forced him to think about service to society, further incidents which led to announce a political party etc. cover the scope of the film.

Performances:

Balakrishna as NTR has performed well especially as older NTR i.e. 60s age NTR. In few emotional scenes he did good. Entire second half, NBK very much resembles NTR in body language.  However, due to age factor, as young NTR of 20s, balakrishna doesn’t appeal good.  Vidya Balan as NTR’s wife is pretty decent, did justice to her role. Rana, Sumanth and Kalyanram as CBN, ANR, and Harikrishna are good choices as well.  There are many other heroines, character artists’ casting. Prakash Raj, Brahmanandam, Kaikala, Nitya Menen, Rakul Preet Singh, Hansika, Krish, Murali Sharma, Vennela Kishore and many others acted in short roles.

Technical:

M M Keeravani, who elevates the emotion of the scene with his background score, at his elements yet again.  Apart from good songs, his background score is appreciable. Next best is Sai Madhav Burra’s dialogues are the ones which standout. Cinematography by Gnansekhar V.S. is good. Production design is decent as well. Editing is patchy, many times popular NTR songs come and go without proper lead. Overall length of the film is 10 – 15 minutes longer which is director/editor combined call.   As producers NBK, Sai Korrapati and Vishnu Induri spent adequately.

Analysis:

Every bit of NTR’s life has been in public domain for decades, familiar to most of the people in Telugu states. In addition, his ‘cine career’ doesn’t have the melodramatic elements as in ‘Mahanati Savitri’ life. The whole spice elements in NTR’s life were after his political entry (which are out of scope of part-1 biopic). Given these factors, it is a challenging task to write an engaging script for NTR’s cine life. Director Krish, writer Sai Madhav still able to come up with enough tribute film – if not a great tribute.

NTR – Kathanayakudu theme showcases NTR’s rise as a hero, shows incidents influenced his thoughts towards society and finally starting a political party. This 30 + years of his life (1949 to 1982) has been covered touch basing his good qualities – leaving controversial ones aside. Director has been refrained from over-the-top scenes, cinematic elevations and showcased true episodes mostly!

NTR’s portrayal in Lord Srikrishna role, in venkateswara Swamy role, his commitment towards the career, His eldest son’s death context emotional scene etc. came out well.  However, Balakrishna as young NTR could not manage to coverup the age difference, but is perfectly able to replicate NTR’s body language as older NTR (60s)

NTR – ANR scenes throughout the film are very nice, it’s been depicted both of them have very friendly relation in cinema life.

Krish has cleverly inserted few scenes to answer criticism on NTR. At some point, they even mention the stiff competition coming from Young heroes Krishna, Shobhanbabu likes against aging NTR. Also, criticism like ‘60 years old NTR dancing with 16 years aged sridevi etc young heroines ‘, has also been addressed in lighter vien.

Charity work done by NTR and ANR in Rayalaseema drought, Diviseema cyclone years also has been covered. In second half, director plays to the galleries to certain extent!  It is pleasant to watch when Chandrababu Naidu, Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy were friends

All in all, this film is a good Déjà vu experience through the life of Legend for his fans and sympathisers.  Also, this film may appeal for those who doesn’t know much about NTR’s cine life. However, current generation youth may complain the film is flat and/or slow, that is due to director Krish did not try to inject cinematic elevations.

Overall, Nandamuri Balakrishna, Krish and whole team must be appreciated for this gutsy attempt and for not being distortive of facts. First of the film is slow but decent, second half of the film will be completely liked by fans and common audience.

Positives:

  • Energetic second half, with a powerful climax
  • Balakrishna’s controlled performance as NTR
  • Krish’s sensible direction
  • A great team work by technicians Keeravani, Sai Madhav etc
  • Huge Star Casting

Negatives:

  • A bit slow first half
  • Balakrishna age mismatch for younger NTR Role

Verdict:

NTR-Kathanayakudu is a good tribute to legend’s cine life. It is a rarest occasion and memorable journey for NTR fans of all ages, a decent watch for others as well. Go and Watch this sincere attempt!

Exclusive: Who is playing NBK in NTR

0

Nandamuri Balakrishna is all set with his prestigious film NTR that is based on the life story of legendary actor and politician NTR. The complete list of actors essaying pivotal roles in NTR has been out and there are talks going on about the role of Balakrishna. While Balakrishna is playing NTR, there are wide speculations making rounds about the actor essaying Balakrishna in the film. Though Mokshagna visited the sets twice, he hasn’t played any role in the film.

A close source from the movie unit revealed that there is no prominent role of Balakrishna in the film and couple of scenes of Balakrishna have been shot from backside with a junior artist. This may be a shocker but Krish and Balakrishna wanted to keep the film focused on NTR rather than on NBK. Hence there will be no prominence for NBK’s role in NTR. The legendary actor NTR could not attend the wedding of Balakrishna which is not known for many and this episode too has been showcased on screen.

Advantage NTR biopic after the stupendous trailer release

0

From the onset, NTR biopic is ahead of other Sankranthi releases in all aspects. While the sensational posters, that were released from time to time, generated a superb buzz, the recently released stupendous trailer has shot the hype on the biopic out of the roof.

Director Krish has hit the bulls eye with his perfect planning. He ensured that the trailer is released at the right time after the posters garnered good response from audience. The sensational trailer, which is well packed with all necessary elements, has evoked a terrific response, which is the need of the hour for Sankranthi biggies.

Multi-starrer film F2 , which features Varun Tej and Venkatesh, is in next line in terms of buzz. The hilarious teaser has drawn the attention of family audience and set the right mood ahead of its release. Ram Charan’s Vinaya Vidheya Rama is lagging behind in terms of promotions and hype. The first look poster and the typical Boyapati mark teaser received only lukewarm response from audience. The two songs rendered by DSP couldn’t excite audience much. So, the onus is now on the theatrical trailer to generate some buzz on the film.

Grandeur in Every Respect- NTR Biopic Audio Review

NTR Biopic Audio

NTR Biopic is one of the most anticipated projects in Tollywood featuring Nandamuri Balakrishna in the title role. Music for the film is composed by M.M.Keeravani and directed by Krish Jagarlamudi. The film is also produced by Balakrishna at a big scale and lot of hopes are coming up on its release.

The album begins on a softer note with Kathanayaka sung by the power packed singer Kailash Kher. The song is beautifully composed in Raaga Mohana and usage of old style instruments like clarinet, harp, and efficient string section is one of the biggest advantages of it. Keeravani’s typical usage of violin in the song is present even in this song. Writers K.Shivadatta and Dr. K.Ramakrishna deliver a fantastic work with the usage of right terms. The interludes are quite pleasantly woven with strings and as the song progresses, richness of orchestration is quite evident. Lyrically, the song hails Sr.NTR’s versatility as an actor and his determination in being perfect in every role he played.

Vendithera Dora is a melancholic number sung by M.M.Keeravani himself and speaks volumes about pain, sadness of the sufferers. Interestingly, the song is based only with grand piano and Keeravani does a commendable job emoting sadness and as it progresses, the tension builds up high with efficient string section.

It is time for a classy touch with Keeravani’s take on the all time greatest Thyagaraja composition Bantureeti Koluvu with impressive arrangements and K.S.Chitra’s fantastic rendition. Sirivennela Sitaramasastry does a fantastic job with altering the lyrics without tampering with original composition. The usage of veena, flute, and rich strings is once again evident in the song. Keeravani’s take on this composition is exemplary. Srreenidhi Tirumala’s classical vocals bring a youthful touch to the song as well. The neraval style of singing between the two lead vocalists is quite brilliant- and a rare finding in Telugu film songs off late.

The classy song Kathanyaka arrives again with female vocalists Sreenidhi, Mohana Bhogaraju and Ramya Behara at their best. In terms of orchestration, the song has nothing new to offer but the vocalists bring a new dimension to the composition. The three vocals sound sublime in unison and bring about a different aspect to the song and the feeling of heroics.

Ramanna Kadha is a narrative style composition which has nostalgic instruments like harmonium, clarinet and jaltarang. Chitra and and Sunitha give their best to this fantastic number. The song is effectively composed in Raaga Abheri which reminds us of the black and white numbers like Ravoyi Chandamama in Missamma. All in all, Keeravani deserves a praise for giving a new twist for such nostalgic thought.

The album brings a transformative effect with Chaitanya Radham– a motivating number which depicts the political changes with the entry of Sr.NTR in the scene. Sirivennela Sitaramasastry’s story like lyrics is a biggest add on. The song also has a folksy touch to it with usage of flute, strings, and surprisingly, the bass guitar deserves a good mention as well. The charanam brings a new pathway with a changeover in the tune and blends flawlessly to the lead motif.

The finale occurs with the already popular number Rajarshi which brings the feeling of power and hailing of the title hero with trademark Keeravani style. The song is composed in Suddha Dhanyasi raagam which is one of the favourites of Keeravani off late. However, the orchestration is the one which stands out quite effectively and replete with horns, drums, and old style instruments used in good vigor.

Verdict:

NTR Biopic is a strong album from Keeravani and is high on quality lyrics, singers and of course- the majestic presentation.

Our Picks: Kathanayaka (Kailash Kher version), Bantureethi Koluvu, Rajarshi , Chaitanya Radham

The three minute long trailer gives a glimpse of the inspiring film and political journey of Taraka Rama Rao, who transcended dizzy heights from a commoner to a demigod for a legion of fans. It is clear from the trailer that the first part traces several remarkable moments of NTR’s reel life till the time he has embarked on political journey.

Nandamuri Balakrishna looks like a spitting image of his father while donning many iconic roles. His mannerisms, diction and appearance are very much similar to that of NTR. Vidya Balan as Basavataram looks picture perfect and she gets her emotions right in every scene.

The production values look super rich and the music score rendered by MM Keeravani is going to be the heart and soul for the film. Sai Madhav Burra comes up with apt and emotional dialogues. The art work is top notch and is going to be the major highlight for the film. Interestingly, no other prominent characters apart from Balakrishna and Vidya Balan are seen in this trailer.

All in all, the trailer is loaded with goosebump-inducing scenes and surely pushes the expectations to the next level. Director Krish seems to have made this as a true blue biopic of NTR which traces his political and cinema life in a great detailing. Three directors in race for Balayya

Nandamuri Balakrishna is busy with the biopic of his father NTR. Though the film will release in two installments, the entire shoot will be called off by this month. He is in plans to wrap up a project before AP elections and take a break from films for election campaign. If this doesn’t happen, Balayya is in plans to line up interesting films and start after the election fever gets completed.

Boyapati Sreenu who is busy with Ram Charan’s Vinaya Vidheya Rama is all set to direct Balakrishna in a political thriller. The duo met recently and Boyapati clarified that the plot is ready but he needs ample time to prepare the bound script and head to shoot. VV Vinayak who has been shattered with debacles has all his hopes on Balakrishna. After getting rejected several times, Vinayak took the last call and is busy preparing an interesting and powerful action thriller for Balakrishna. He is expected to meet NBK and narrate it early next year.

Hattrick director Anil Ravipudi is in talks with Nandamuri camp from some time and is working on an interesting script. He is busy with the post-production work of F2 currently and will shift his focus on NBK’s film right after the release of F2. Anil narrated a plot to Balakrishna and got his nod. The young director is confident on impressing Balakrishna with the final draft soon. Three directors are currently in race for Balayya’s next and we will have to see who impresses the veteran actor first and locks the project.

Will NTR Jr make it for NTR?

1

It is well aware about the drift between Nandamuri Balakrishna and NTR Jr. However after the demise of Harikrishna, things seemed to have settled and Balayya attended the success meet of NTR’s Aravindha Sametha Veera Raghava. Now Balakrishna is reprising his father NTR in the prestigious biopic NTR which will hit the screens next month. A grand audio release event has been planned in Nimmakur on December 21st and the entire Nandamuri Family has been invited for the event.

It is still unclear if NTR Jr has been invited or not. But a section of media has been speculating that NTR has been rejected invitation and Balayya ignored him again. There are also talks that NTR will attend the pre-release event of Ram Charan’s Vinaya Vidheya Rama which too is hitting the screens during Sankranthi. Leaving speculations aside, Nandamuri fans are eagerly waiting to see Balakrishna and NTR Jr sharing stage again to get thrilled. Wait for some more days to know if this turns true.
