Is PK back with TDP in AP politics?

0

Prashant Kishore, the election strategist, is now the talk of the town in Andhra Pradesh. He was spotted in Gannavaram airport along with TDP general secretary Nara Lokesh on Saturday. They both came by a chartered flight from Hyderabad and went to the TDP state headquarters in Mangalagiri.

Rajesh Kilaru, Shanthanu Singh and M Srikanth have also come along with Lokesh and Prashanth Kishore in the chartered flight.

PK is a brand in electoral politics. He is a magic wand in electoral strategies. He helped Narendra Modi, Jagan Mohan Reddy and M K Stalin to win the elections. He is now on the side of TDP, helping Chandrababu Naidu to win the 2024 general elections.

TDP is taking the help of PK’s former colleague, Robin Sharma, these days. Robin Sharma had been giving strategies to the party to face the ruling YSR Congress in state politics. Sources say that Robin Sharma’s agreement with the TDP is ending this month. It is for this reason, PK entered the scene.

While working for the YSR Congress, Prashanth Kishore was able to understand the socio-economic and political dimensions of Andhra Pradesh. He is said to have understood the social equations of the people and the political parties.

PK drew a clear line among the castes in the state and brought a divide that helped Jagan Mohan Reddy win the election in 2019. He has a very clear understanding of the social structure here and the caste divides. This would come handy for the TDP to get his support and win the elections, if he ties up with the party.

It is too early to say that PK is going to work for the TDP. He was spotted with Lokesh and was seen going to the TDP office. It is not clear yet that he will work with the TDP for the coming elections. But if he works, the TDP is all set to see the victory as he is a magician of electoral politics.

Congress likely to meet today to decide PKs role

0

The Congress interim chief Sonia Gandhi on Monday is likely to hold consultation with senior leaders on the role of political strategist Prashant Kishor in the party.

The group, which was constituted to discuss the issue, submitted its report last week.

The Congress wants Kishor to end his previous commitments made to other parties and work solely as a Congressman and not as a consultant. The final decision may be taken after talks with Rahul Gandhi.

The state units are pitched against regional parties in West Bengal, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. Hence, it does not want Kishor to have any truck with the regional parties.

The party leaders, who have submitted their report on the issue, admit that there is no harm in the political strategist joining the party but there should be no conflict wherever the party is pitched against regional forces.

Meanwhile, Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) on Sunday signed a deal with Indian Political Action Committee (I-PAC) founded by the election strategist Kishor.

During an interaction with a select group of journalists, TRS Working President K.T. Rama Rao confirmed that his party is working with I-PAC, but claimed that this has nothing to do with Kishor. “PK (as Kishor is popularly known) is the founder, but I don’t know who is running it. PK introduced us to I-PAC and it is working with us,” he said.

He said PK has disassociated himself from I-PAC, which is working with multiple parties across the country. “It’s not just PK we had interactions with. We had multiple iterations of discussions with several others. We spoke to Sunil and others. I-PAC is what we narrowed down to.”

The TRS leader, however, was evasive on whether the agreement is only for 2023 Assembly polls or 2024 Lok Sabha elections as well as the nature of discussions they are holding with PK. “If a gentleman who is into politics, who is into advisory or helpful roles in other places, offers you some inputs, would you not take them?” he asked.

Jagan may not need Prashant Kishore for 2024?

2

YSR Congress president and chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy may not require the help of poll strategist Prashant Kishore for the 2024 general elections. Jagan took the help of Prashant Kishore for two subsequent elections – 2014 and 2019. While he could not make it to win the first election, the second election was a record.

Having worked with Prashant Kishore for two elections, Jagan Mohan Reddy seems to have become master in election strategy. Also being in power for three years too had come handy for the YSR Congress chief to plan the next election on his own.

Jagan Mohan Reddy seems to have learned the tricks of the trade and is all set to go alone in the next round of elections. Besides his own learning, Jagan Mohan Reddy is also not happy with Prashant Kishore working for the Congress in national politics. As if this is not enough, Prashant Kishore’s former colleagues are now working with the TDP in Andhra Pradesh politics.

With all these issues before him, Jagan Mohan Reddy is understood to have decided to go alone, without hiring the services of Prashant Kishore. Interestingly, at least half-a-dozen persons who worked with Prashant Kishore in the past are now directly working with Jagan in his back office.

Jagan Mohan Reddy is marketing his welfare schemes and the direct benefit transfer (DBT) programme about which he had become a master in the last three years. He had successfully implemented all the cash transfer schemes to the people in the last three years, despite the Covid 19 pandemic.

People in the grassroots are happy with his cash schemes particularly at a time when there was no work due to lockdown. Even now, though the work places are open there are a lot of restrictions leading to a reduction in the number of workers everywhere.

Besides people, more economists, like Amartya Sen have favoured the cash transfer programmes by the government as that would keep the market vibrant. Considering all these, Jagan Mohan Reddy is understood to have decided to keep Prashant Kishore aside and go for the next round of elections. It is to be seen whether he would be able to meet his ambitious plan of winning more than the 151 number that he had won in the last elections.

Team PK’s dilemma: Andhra Pradesh first or Telangana first?

0

What is cooking in the ruling YSRCP? Why is there a delay in the implementation of plans that are close to even YS Jagan’s heart? Jagan himself has announced that poll wizard Prashant Kishor will start working for the YSRCP from November this year. It has been more than 45 days after Jagan’s deadline has expired and there are yet no signs of Team Prashant Kishor beginning their task in AP anytime soon.

YS Jagan had said that Team Prashant Kishor would conduct a massive state-wide survey to assess the public perception of the MLAs. Based on their position in the performance scale, a decision would be taken whether they would be given the party ticket again or will they be replaced. So the MLAs are all jittery about this survey. But for reasons not known, team PK has not yet begun the work.

Meanwhile, there are reports that Prashant Kishor is also working out strategies to help the ruling TRS in Telangana. The TRS is continuously on a downslide with its approval ratings falling down. Post the Huzurabad elections, things don’t seem to be looking rosy for the party. So the TRS has requisitioned PK’s service. It is not clear whether PK will take up the work of Telangana first of Andhra first.

The delay in taking up survey in AP has given some breathing space for the YSRCP MLAs, especially those whose popularity graph is none too satisfactory. These MLAs are now said to be taking up some urgent measures to improve their image.

Are Jagan’s temple visits part of Prashant Kishor strategy?

1

AP Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy is working hard to erase the image of his being pro-Christian. Jagan, who has already begun preparing for the 2024 elections, realised the need to project a pro-Hindu image. As part of it, he has recently visited various temples like Tirupati. The latest in this strategy is his visit to the famed Ganapathi Sachidananda Ashram in Vijayawada.

Jagan will be paying a visit to the Ashram on Monday. He would reach the Ashram at about 10.30 and would interact with Sri Ganapathi Satchidananda. He would also offer prayers at the temple in the ashramam. He would spend around one hour in the ashramam before leaving for his Tadepalli residence. The district administration is making the arrangement for the visit of the Chief Minister.

Jagan has been in the line of fire for the spate of attacks on the temples in the state. Both the TDP and the BJP have attacked the government for its failure to protest the temples in the state. Also, there are allegations that Christian conversions are on the rise in the state ever since Jagan came to power. To erase all this, YS Jagan has begun temple-hopping. His visit to Satchidananda Ashram is being viewed in this contest.

It may be recalled that Prashant Kishor has advised Mamta Banerjee in West Bengal, Stalin in Tamil Nadu and Arvind Kejriwal in Delhi to promote soft Hindutva to win the elections. As part of it, Mamta Banerjee began reciting Chandipath, Stalin visited Murugan temples and held Murugan’s weapon Vel in his hands, while Kejriwal recited Hanuman Chalisa. Jagan’s temple visit and Seer-meeting spree is also being seen as the part of Prashant Kishor strategy.

Problems pull down Prashant Kishor

0

Couple of months ago, he was the prince of the political game. He made the voter dance to his tunes. He ensured Mamta Banerjee’s victory in Bengal and brought back to power Stalin in Tamil Nadu. He made the mighty BJP bite the dust. But, the same Prashant Kishor is finding that things are not going according to plans.

He had announced after the Bengal elections that he would take up a new role and that his I Pac organisation would be handed over to his juniors. The plan was to join the Congress Party, according to sources. However, things have not panned out as planned. He found himself unwelcome in the Congress Party. He has also found that Rahul-Sonia-Priyanka troika have no idea on how to use him.

But there is a bigger problem. There is intense struggle between the top leadership in IPac of Prahant Kishor. In fact, IPac is PK’s organisation for election strategies. The top four in IPac are now vying for the top post. Rishi, an IIT Kanpur alumni, Legal eagle Vinesh, Punjab based Eesha and Delhi IIT alumni Prateek are fighting for the top post. Rishi managed Punjab, Tamil Nadu and Delhi elections, while Vinesh was incharge of UP in 2017. Eesha had worked in West Bengal and Uttarakhand. And Prateek is known as the brain behind Bihar win in 2015.

Reports say that all the four are vying for the top post. Recently Prashant Kishor held a meeting to sort out the issue, but it is said to have ended on a stormy note. It is because of this issue that PK has not yet taken up the job of working for YS Sharmila in Telangana.

Is Team PK planning to use 3-capital issue for snap polls

1

Is YS Jagan Mohan Reddy preparing a master plan to go to snap polls on the issue of three capitals and stoke sub-regional fires? Is he trying to corner the TDP and portray it as a party that is supporting Amaravati only to protest the real estate interests of his partymen? Will this lead to sub-regional tensions between the three regions?

Highly placed sources in the YSRCP say that both YS Jagan and Prashant Kishor, who recently rejoined YS Jagan team, have decided to use the three-capital issue. The YSRCP wants to project Chandrababu as the obstructor-in-chief for the three capitals proposal. This would help turn the tide against the TDP in north Andhra and Rayalaseema. The Rayalaseema region is already firmly in the hands of the YSRCP and the TDP might not be able to regain its hold anytime soon, claim the YSRCP sources. They also claim that north Andhra too will move away from the TDP on the issue of Vizag as the administrative capital.

The YSRCP also feels that there is not much support to the Amaravati farmers’ agitation. The agitation has already fizzled out, the party feels. This is an agitation of just 22 villages and might not even impact the Guntur district, feels the YSRCP. Hence it feels that this issue will benefit it. Meanwhile, team PK is said to have begun the task of fine-tuning YS Jagan’s strategy The team also feels that the welfare schemes will help the party in a big way.

However, some analysts say that the three-capital issue could boomerang for the YSRCP. It feels that the three capitals issue has not moved forward. Already there is discontent in Kurnool as no additional benefits will accrue to the city due to setting up of the high court. Except a couple of new Xerox shops, there would be no developments, said a Kurnool local. The TDP hopes to capitalise on this issue.

Naidu multi-year contract to Prashant Kishor?

0

Strange things happen in politics. TDP boss Chandrababu Naidu fought fiercely but suffered a humiliating defeat. At one time during electioneering, he lost patience and called YCP election strategist Prashant Kishor a Bihari dacoit who was bringing in all unhealthy trends in poll campaign. But now the same Naidu changed his game plan and made a multi-year contract proposal to Prashant Kishor’s IPAC (Indian Political Action Committee) to work for TDP.

TDP leaders are also speechless at the new political twist. But they say that it’s not surprising. For Kishor team, elections are just a commercial proposition. They accept any profitable offer from the political parties.

Naidu might have moved fast to hijack the services of IPAC. TDP is still of the opinion that some tricks and secret strategies used by Kishor team are the reason for landslide victory of YCP. IPAC could do this at different levels which include their effective manipulation of their contacts at the national level and also the Election Commission officials. Analysts say a Naidu-Kishor team would indeed turn into a deadly combination.

Jagan — Prashant Kishore parting ways?

0

Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister K E Krishnamurthy noted that Political strategist Prashant Kishor deserted YSR Congress Party and left for Delhi due to the misbehavior of Opposition Leader Jagan Mohan Reddy. Neither Prashant nor YSRCP has made any such statements. However, the TDP legislator’s comments gain significance in view of the recent reports of incidents of difference in opinion between YSRCP cadre and Prashant.

Last month Prashant was given an official grand welcome at the YSRCP plenary. However, following the announcement, several reports surfaced stating that the YSRCP leaders are allegedly insecure of their position in party due to the strategies of Prashant. Jagan apparently informed the leaders that his decision is finally and that strategist is here only to make suggestions. YSRCP cadre has also claimed that Jagan is getting used the working style of the strategist.

This could also be seen as a tactic from the TDP leader to strengthen the thoughts of YSRCP cadre and consequently cornering Jagan who is extensively conducting roadshows in Nandyal.
