TN would become graveyard if protests held for everything: Rajinikanth

3

Tamil Nadu would turn into a graveyard if people start protesting on every issue, said actor-turned-politician Rajinikanth on Wednesday.

Speaking to reporters at the Chennai airport on his return from Thoothukudi, a visibly angry Rajinikanth stressed it was the anti-social elements who indulged in arson and violence in Thoothukudi during protests against a Sterlite factory that led to the death of 13 people in police firing.

He said the Thoothukudi protests on May 22 turned violent only after police were attacked by anti-social elements, adding he would not accept attack on police.

According to him, as it happened during the Jallikattu demonstrations, miscreants infiltrated the movement in Thoothukudi where a peaceful protest was being organised against the Sterlite Copper smelter plant of Vedanta Ltd.

Earlier in the day, Rajinikanth visited the injured people admitted in a government hospital in Thoothukudi and consoled them.

His comments underscore the stand of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister K. Palaniswami who earlier said anti-social elements got violent during the demonstration against the Sterlite plant, which the protesters said was destroying the farm lands and leading to severe health issues in the area.

Those who indulged in arson were not general public and it was a failure of the intelligence department to have not detected it, Rajinikanth told the media in Thoothukudi.

The superstar said of late, anti-social elements have become active in Tamil Nadu and praised late Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa for having kept them under control in her tenure.

Urging the current state government to follow in Jayalalithaa’s steps, he said if they fail to control the miscreants, the state will face a grave danger.

If the state turns into an arena of protests, then investments will not come in resulting in non-creation of jobs, he said.

Rajinikanth also dismissed the opposition’s demand that Palaniswami should quit over the violence, saying resignation is not the answer to all problems but added that he does not have faith in the one person inquiry commission announced by the state government.

Welcoming Rajinikanth’s comment on anti-social elements, Tamil Nadu BJP chief Tamilisai Soundararajan said regardless of criticism, it is only right to tell the truth.

Film with Rajinikanth will have nothing to do with politics: Karthik Subbaraj

3

Tamil filmmaker Karthik Subbaraj, who is embarking on a film starring megastar Rajinikanth in the lead, says the movie will have nothing to do with politics.

“It has been my dream to make a film with Rajini sir. I grew up watching his films. And I was sure I would direct a film with him some day. I never thought would happen so early,” Subbaraj said.

When he wrote the new film for Rajinikanth, he was in for a surprise.

“I went with the story to Rajini sir about a year ago. I never thought he would agree to do it. To my surprise, he had seen my films — from the first one ‘Pizza’, then ‘Jigarthanda’ and ‘Iraivi’. When Rajini sir said he had seen all my films, I was happier than I can explain.

“He had trust in my abilities and we decided to do our film together as soon as he was free from his two assignments ‘2.0’ and ‘Kaala’. I thought he would forget about my film. But now that he has finished with his pending projects, he told me we can start,” added the director, who has attained an impressive reputation in no time at all as a filmmaker who delivers the hits.

Karthik feels a huge sense of joy and responsibility.

“With the happiness of knowing I am working with the biggest star of the country comes the worry of knowing how to present him in a different light. To change his image is unacceptable to his fans, so I’ve to work my way around his image.”

The one thing that the movie won’t go into is politics.

“I’m aware Rajini sir has been doing political films lately. But my film with him would have nothing to do with politics. It would be a light-hearted film.”

Apart from Rajinikanth, only Vijay Sethupati has been finalised in the yet untitled film.

“Vijay Sethupati has been a part of almost all my films. He trusts me blindly and I feel the same trust in his abilities each time,” the director said.

He dismissed reports of Simran being finalised as Rajinikanth’s leading lady.

“So far, only Rajini sir and Vijay Sethupathi have been locked. We are yet to finalise the leading lady. We hope to complete the film by the end of this year and release the film early next year.”

Rajinikanth responds on Kaala ban in Karnataka

1

Superstar Rajinikanth is all set for his next film Kaala which is hitting the screens on June 7th. With the ongoing Cauvery water row between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, the Karnataka Film Association decided to stall the film’s release after the distributors voluntarily decided not to screen the film in the state.

Rajinikanth has been left in shock with the decision saying that he is unaware of the ban of Kaala in Karnataka. “I don’t know for what reason they have banned my movie. South Indian Film Chamber of Commerce should intervene in this and ensure a smooth release for the film in Karnataka” said Rajinikanth. Directed by PA Ranjith, Kaala is a gangster drama that will release in Telugu, Tamil and Hindi languages. Wunderbar Films bankrolled the movie.

No release for Kaala in Karnataka

0

Superstar Rajinikanth’s highly anticipated Kaala is gearing up for a massive release on June 7th worldwide. While trade circles are expecting a thunderous opening for the film all over South, distributors from Karnataka have voluntarily decided to stall the film’s release following Rajinikanth’s comments on Cauvery water issue.

Recently, Rajinikanth made some comments on Cauvery issue and asked the new Chief Minister of Karnataka Kumaraswamy to abide by the mandate of Supreme Court and release the water for Tamil Nadu.

These comments have invited huge criticism from pro-Kannada activists who have been demanding the ban of Rajinikanth’s films in Karnataka. In wake of these protests, the distributors and exhibitors of Karnataka film association have met to discuss about the issue and took a decision to stop the film’s release.

This is a huge set back for Kaala producers as Rajinikanth commands a huge fan base in Karnataka and his films find huge patronage from Kannada film lovers.

Directed by Ranjith Pa, the film has Rajinikanth playing a slumlord of Mumbai who fights for the rights of downtrodden.

Rajinikanth’s ‘Kaala’ gets realistic digital upgrade

0

He calls working on superstar Rajinikanth’s “Kaala” as one of his biggest projects, and was amazed at the magnitude of the Tamil film. Pete Draper, who is looking after the VFX of the movie, hopes the audience will not be able to tell the difference between the real world and computer generated imagery (CGI).

Makuta co-founder and CEO Draper has worked in big blockbusters “Eega”, “Ghajini”, “Magadheera”, “Endhiran” and “Baahubali”.

“The experience of working on the film has been very good. The set work which we have to do… It is one of the biggest that we have worked on,” Draper told IANS.

The trilingual movie also features Nana Patekar, Huma Qureshi, actor-director Samudrakani and Eswari Rao among others. The film is slated for release in June.

“They have built a 1 or 1.5 km set… We went out there for work. I hope you won’t be able to tell CGI in it,” he said, adding that some of the best CGI is the one that people don’t spot.

Draper spoke to IANS on behalf of AXN India for their show “Zoo”, which is replete with CGI.

Creating a world with the use of technology is not easy. Draper says it is tough to create imperfections in the perfect digital world.

“The problem with CGI is that it is perfect and the real world is not perfect. If you look around yourself, every single thing that you notice has some imperfection… Every single thing have small imperfections. We are not used to seeing perfection.

“As soon we see something which is literally perfect, we think that something is not right because you are not used to seeing that. We have to make things to convince the audience. So, creating a structure or an animation or creating a realistic thing is just the first stage.

“It is adding those inaccuracies, imperfection which is challenging.”

Not BJP, only God and people behind me: Rajinikanth

0

Actor-turned-politician Rajinikanth, who had declared he would follow the philosophy of spiritual politics, on Tuesday said only God and people were behind him and not the BJP.

Talking to reporters here on his return from a spiritual tour, he also said the state government should put additional pressure on the Central government to set up the Cauvery Management Board.

Queried about meeting some Bharatiya Janata Party leaders during his spiritual tour and the view that he is backed by that party, Rajinikanth denied that the BJP was supporting him, saying it was “only God and people were behind him”.

On the Ram Rajya Rath Yatra that has entered Tamil Nadu on Tuesday, he said the state is secular and the government should provide security to it and prevent any communal flare up.

On his political plans, he said that his next course will be taken after appointing district level office bearers for his Makkal Mandram party.

75 Crore staggering deal for Kaala

0

Rajinikanth Kaala satellite rights sold for Rs 75 cr

Superstar Rajinikanth’s Kaala, one of the tentpole films this season, has started toppling several records even before it has hit the screens.

According to the latest reports in Tamil media circles, the satellite rights of the Ranjith Pa directional have been bagged by Star TV for a staggering 75 Crores. The deal includes the rights of Telugu, Tamil and Hindi language rights. This is a record price considering that no other South Indian film barring 2Point0 and Baahubali managed to create such a hysteria without boasting top cast and technical crew and star director.

Also, despite the fact that Rajini’s previous film with Ranjith Pa Kabali failed to match the high expectations didn’t impact the business and buzz on Kaala.

The film is slated to hit the screens on April 27 worldwide.

No 3D for Rajni’s 2.0?

1

Superstar Rajnikanth has teamed up with massive filmmaker Shankar for 2.0 which has already been gaining much interest all over India and abroad as well. The never before seen 3D technical brilliance was the most fetching aspects of this film. Moreover, the film also has stunning star cast in which Akshay Kumar will be playing the role of antagonist.

But now, the makers are facing some problems regarding the technical aspects and also the release of the film. There are some speculations that the film’s release might be delayed due to additional visual effects work and the latest speculations say that the 3D format will be scrapped off entirely because of the lack of satisfactory output.

Initially, an American company has been given the responsibility of 3D production and perhaps the work hasn’t been good enough for a smooth release. Will this mean 2.0 comes out like a normal movie instead of a larger than life flick? We will have to wait and see.

No leadership vacuum in TN, Stalin tells Rajinikanth

0

DMK leader M.K. Stalin on Tuesday rejected actor Rajinikanth’s view of a leadership vacuum in Tamil Nadu and demanded that BJP leader H. Raja should be arrested for his derogatory comments over iconic leader Periyar.

Responding to media queries about Rajinikanth’s speech in a college on Monday, Stalin said he does not agree that there was a leadership vacuum and insisted that the people of Tamil Nadu too would not accept this view.

He said the next government in the state would be headed by the DMK.

Rajinikanth said that after the demise of Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa and with DMK President M. Karunanidhi in poor health, there was a leadership vacuum in the state which he can fill.

Stalin said BJP’s Raja should be arrested under the Goondas Act for his violence provoking views.

In a social media message — later removed– Raja, referring to the razing of a Lenin statue in Tripura, said a similar fate awaited the statues of E.V. Ramasamy, the founder of Dravidian movement in Tamil Nadu.

On the Cauvery river water sharing issue, Stalin said Deputy Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam on Monday spoke to him over phone over the convening of the state Assembly on March 8.

Stalin said Panneerselvam told him that convening of the Assembly could be considered after the meeting of the Chief Secretaries of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka and Puducherry called by the Union Water Resources Ministry on March 9.

According to Stalin, he agreed to the suggestion after stressing that the meeting called by the central ministry was a tactic to delay the setting up of Cauvery Management Board as ordered by the Supreme Court last month.
