Young actor Sudheer Babu’s recent outing Sammohanam received critical acclaim and it raked decent box-office money. Sudheer turned quite choosy and is picking up interesting movies. Impressed with the narration of debutant Puli Vasu, the actor signed the film on spot. The pre-production work of this untitled film has been wrapped up and the film will be launched officially tomorrow in Ramanaidu studios.

Golden girl Mehreen has been roped in to play the female lead in this breezy romantic drama. After a huge search, the makers felt Mehreen would be the apt one for the role. Rizwan Entertainments will produce this untitled film. Dil Raju and VV Vinayak will attend the movie launch as Chief Guests.

Sammohanam has ended up it’s run with a worldwide distributor share of little over 7 Crores. This is the second highest grosser for Sudheer Babu as it fell behind Prema Katha Chitram which has collected over 10 Crores Share a way back in 2013. Worldwide theatrical rights of the film are valued at 8 cr with 6cr in Domestic markets(Collected 5.21 Cr Share) and 2 Cr(Collected 1.90 Cr Share) in Overseas markets which means the film hasn’t recovered it’s entire amounts in neither of them. In Domestic markets, the film has performed best in UA area while it has under-performed big time in Nizam area. Overall, the film can be termed as an Average.

Mohan Krishna Indraganti directional film Sammohanam starring Sudheer Babu, Aditya Rao Hydari in lead roles was released on June 15th 2018. Produced by Sivalenka Krishna prasad, Sammohanam has collected a gross of 565,306 to become the highest grosser and first half million dollar for the hero.

Coming to Profit loss details, the film has collected a distributor share of $264,233 in USA which comes down to $189,233 ie, 1.29 Crores INR after deducting the expenses like VPF & Publicity. From Non-USA markets it has fetched another 0.15 Crores to make it a total distributor share of 1.44 Crores in Overseas. The film was released by Nirvana Cinemas on an Advance basis of 1.50 Crores. Ee Nagaraniki Emaindhi : After an average opening the film has shown growth only on Sunday which shouldn’t be the case with these type of films as they get better even on Saturday. Instead it fell flat on Saturday ie, on it’s second day which is a worrying factor in the long run. As per estimates, the film has collected a distributor share of 1.40-1.50 Cr in it’s first weekend in Telugu States.

Shambo Shankara : After a decent opening the film has dropped on it’s second day and couldn’t show much growth on it’s third day. Reports are not encouraging for the film and that has affected it big time. The film has collected a distributor share of over 1 Crore in it’s first weekend and is expected to drop further from today.

Sammohanam : The film continued it’s Average performance with a worldwide distributor share of over 6.7 Cr till date.

Sammohanam had an Average Second Weekend with a worldwide distributor share of over 1.10 Cr which has taken the 10 days total to over 6.1 Cr. The film has shown some gains on Sunday which should have been even better. It’s certain now that the film will settle to an Average Verdict. Coming to Domestic markets the film has collected 4.45 cr share against the valued rights of 6cr which means a recovery of 75 percent approx so far. Weekend domestic trade – Sammohanam continues to underperform

Srinivas Reddy’s Jamba Lakidi Pamba has taken an average opening in Telugu States and fell flat over the weekend as the reports were not encouraging. The film was sold for less prices and has recovered 50 percent of the investments over the weekend but will end up as a Flop as it will fall from today. It is an washout outside Telugu States.

Sudheer Babu- Mohan Krishna Indraganti’s Sammohanam Continued to underperform at the box office. After an average first week with a worldwide distributor share of an approx 5cr the film has added up another 1.1cr approx over the weekend taking worldwide total to 6.1cr. With theatrical rights of the film valued at 8cr it will most likely end up as an average.

Jayan Ravi’s first simultaneous release Tik Tik Tik has taken below average opening and will removed from theatres by next week.

Vishal’s Abhimanyudu continued to mint some shares in A centres with gross near to 19 Cr in Telugu States. The film is a Super Hit.

Sammohanam 1st week Worldwide Collections

Sammohanam has a very average first week worldwide with better numbers coming from Overseas. The film has collected a distributor share of over 4.50 Crores worldwide making it the highest first week share for the hero. Coming to the recovery point of view all India theatrical rights of the film are valued at 6cr which tallies to a first week recovery of little over 55 percent. Overseas rights including expenses are valued at 2cr which tallies to a recovery of 75 percent. The numbers are fine in overseas which may eventually breakeven with no major release this week but should have been better in the domestic markets. Overall it’s a very average week at the worldwide Box-office for Sammohanam and it should maintian steady collections from here on to Breakeven.

With ‘Sammohanam’, which is steady at the ticket counters, Indraganti Mohana Krishna has once again proved that he is one the finest writers of this generation. He admits that he enjoys writing the most. “Along the post-production, I enjoy writing the most. Shooting is tough and tension-filled because you want to meet your vision and there are factors like time, money and dates (of actors) which determine the progress,” he told us, while adding that it takes six months for him to pen a proper screenplay. “I don’t have a writing team as I do everything by myself. Generally, I take two months to complete my first draft. ‘Sammohanam’ was my 13th draft.”

The director, who will be on a one-month break post he is through with the promotional campaign of the last Friday release, adds that he goes to the sets with a bound script. “I don’t write anything on the sets—except for changing a word if an actor finds it difficult to pronounce or improvising a little, language-wise. For ‘Sammohanam’, Aditi Rao Hydari had a problem with the climax as she felt it was too long for her, so I compressed it a bit.”

US box office : Slow weekend for Telugu films

Telugu films are having a slow run at US box office this weekend. Two romantic entertainers Naa Nuvve and Sammohanam released in a span of two days.

After taking a poor start, Naa Nuvve failed to create any impact as the collections in the first weekend are very pathetic. On Saturday, the film collected $ 9K in overseas.

Sammohanam opened on a promising note and showed signs of having a strong weekend after receiving unanimous positive reports and encouraging web reviews. However, the film is under-performing despite having good offers. After crossing $ 150K by the end of Friday, the film garnered only $ 140K on Saturday.

Lack of good number of screens due to the release of Hollywood biggies is one of the reasons why the film is not collecting on par with trade expectations.

It is difficult being a Tollywood director. You deliver hit in a particular genre and the chances of your next film producer asking to you to repeat the same genre are ample. Many directors obliged to this in the past and are continuing to do so in the present too, but Indraganti Mohana Krishna stands out. Since the beginning of his career, he hopped genres and his latest, ‘Sammohanam’, is his first shot at full-fledged romance after his last, ‘Ami Tumi’, a rib-tickling comedy. The Sivalenka Prasad production has opened to favourable reviews and Indraganti is naturally a happy man. “The openings were decent but it has picked up later in the evening (on Friday). With the trade declaring it as a hit, it’s only but natural for it to gain more momentum,” he tells us.

The director’s phone has been ringing ever since the preliminary reports poured in from the US, with many telling him that the second half’s length could’ve been a little longer—more as they didn’t had enough of the romantic drama. But that was the choice he had to make. “Editing or structuring the film is a struggle and on top of it, ours is a film-based film with no star power attached to it to attract initial footfalls, so it was a choice between ‘should we keep 10 minutes more or should we structure in a way that it’d be better if people felt it should’ve been a little longer’. I chose the latter,” he smiles, while adding, “But then the audience are the final judge and if they felt that the film could’ve gone into extra minutes, it sure is a flattering remark.”

Told in a linear fashion, ‘Sammohanam’ is a love story between a children’s book illustrator (Vijay) and a Telugu superstar actress (Sameera Rathod) with poignant and comic moments aplenty. Ask him whether he always wanted to tell it in a linear mode and he states, “For a major part, the film is told from the point of view of Vijay and only towards the end, I had to spend five-six minutes on telling Sameera’s back story, albeit in a flashback way. In fact, if I started from that point, it would’ve been darker, while I wanted the film to be vibrant and positive.

“I want to make my next film in a complete linear way. If we go back and forth continuously, it’d be a bit tiring for the audience to process the information.”

He informs that he was surprised with a section’s observation about the film getting predictable as it neared the finale. “I was like, ‘What is predictable about it? When did you see a pre-climax like Naresh’s? And when did you see a children’s illustration echoing what happened between the lead actors?’ For me, it was the novel part of the film. As a matter of fact, I wanted to bring children’s illustration again into the climax instead of sidelining it and show how his and her professions run into each other and inspire each other.”

The director acknowledged acclaimed British romantic comedy ‘Notting Hill’s influence on the film in the opening credits and terms it along with ‘My Week with Marilyn’ as his all-time favourite romantic films. “There was ‘Notting Hill’ hangover while writing ‘Sammohanam’, but then I wanted to make a film which is close to our culture,” he admits, further noting that both in ‘Notting Hill and ‘My Week with Marilyn’, there was no great drama. “But then there was tremendous amount of life and emotion which made them what they are.”

Sudheer’s performance in the film has been highly raved, with his brother-in-law Mahesh Babu too joining the bandwagon on Twitter and describing it as the actor’s finest work till date. Indraganti feels that Sudheer has a lot of potential which the industry hasn’t tapped yet. “What has he been offered? Zilch! Industry is at fault. Not actors. They are hungry and ready for challenging cinema. Sudheer might do routine stuff tomorrow because of lack of options but if given him a good option, this is what he is capable of,” he points out, adding that he is considering taking a break next up before shifting attention to his next. “I want to run away for at least a month,” he smiles.

US B.O : Sammohanam holds well, Naa Nuvve falters

Two romantic entertainers released in a span of two days this week. While Kalyan Ram’s Naa Nuvve failed to attract audience, Sudheer Babu’s Sammohanam has opened to promising numbers.

In overseas, Naa Nuvve is heading towards a flop as the first weekend collections are nothing but awful. After opening on a poor note with $ 45K from Wednesday premiers, the collections plunged further on the next two days. With $ 10K and $ 12K on Thursday and Friday respectively, the film has already been termed as a disaster by trade circles.

On the other side, Sammohanam is pulling in decent numbers in the first weekend, thanks to the rave reviews and positive word of mouth. The romantic comedy has opened with $ 67K on Thursday premiers and remained steady with $ 90K on Friday. The film is likely to have decent footfalls in overseas as there is no competition at the box office and due to the unanimous reports.

Let’s find out if the film lives up to the mark or not :

Story :

R. Vijay Kumar ( Subeer Babu ) lives with his happy family – Dad , Mom and sister. His dad ( Naresh ) is a movie buff whose life ambition is to act in films. Making his wish come true , A film unit seeks their home for 20 days shoot. The most happening heroine Sameera Rathod ( Played by Aditi Rao ) is the heroine of the film under shoot. Ajay gets an opportunity to train her in Telugu and love blossoms between them.

When Vijay
proposes , Sameera neither rejects nor accept but is indifferent which is later revealed in the flashback.

Rest of the story unveils the reasoning behind her acts and see what happens between the lead pair

Performances :

Sudheerbabu is at ease as a cool attitude urbane upper middle class guy. Aditi Rao as a north indian heroine who shots into fame in telugu industry is another good fit. Her grace and personality is a T fit for Sameera role. The lead pair’s chemistry is appealing in first half

Senior actor Naresh excelled as ‘ cinema pichi ‘ daddy and show stealer of Sammohanam. Pavitra lokesh ‘s characterization as modern mother is unique. The girl who played Ajay’s sister is adequate. Rahul Ramakrishna as a gossip website owner , Tanikella Bharani got small roles. Nandu as cinema hero Kishore Babu is decent. Hariteja plays Aditi Rao’s personal manager

Analysis :

Mohankrishna Indraganti who is known for delivering class films narrated with leisure pace continues his signature with ‘ Sammohanam ‘. This time he picked life of a heroine who has been caught between the bad company in film industry and a good guy who is closer to her heart. The film deals with the pressures a modern day top actresses faces in her day to day life.

First half revolves around the 20 days cinema shoot that occurs in Ajay ( Sudheer Babu) ‘s home. Naresh’s role generates humour as a movie lover who gives out his home for film shooting in a free exchange for a role on the film. Sameera who is a hindi native struggles to deliver telugu dialogues and hires Ajay to train her.

Here things turn bit cinematic – a celebrity heroine falling in attraction of a middle class guy after hearing few poetic definitions about love. The grand parents’ love episode narrated by Ajay is typical Indraganti mark matured and class writing. Till interval there were couple of good lyrical value songs , visually poetic shots within. Thus first half is decent enough though slow paced

After some feel good moments , conflict part starts which is not convincing. Amit Malhotra’s thread flashback is cliched. The conversations goes on and on and on , sometimes preachy sometimes boring. Thus second half lacks any good moments . Book launch ceremony in climax stretches beyond.

P G Vinda ‘s cinematography stands out. He and Ingradanti’s eisthetics can be seen in Ajay’s house balcony setup , The cool visuals in two songs and overall the film carries glossy look.

Vivek Sagar delivered cool music and background music.

Director Indraganti succeeded in portraying cinema industr’s typical behavior, and in subtle dig at industry as well as a gossip website. In first half he was okay but second half is cliched and snail paced

‘ Sammohanam ‘ is a slow paced class film from Director Indraganti. First half has some colorful moments with Aditi Rao , Sudheer pair’s cool chemistry. As it advances ‘ sammohanam ‘ turns too conversational and preachy. Conflict point barely exist and its resolution is artificial.

Overall, this film may appeal to audience in overseas and Urban centres. It earns ‘ good attempt ‘ tag but excruciatingly slow !

Having made a successful Bollywood debut with Sajid Nadiadwala’s production ‘Baaghi’, a remake of our own ‘Varsham’, Sudheer was offered many roles—both positive and negative. One such offer was to play a villain in super-hero flick ‘Brahmastra’, whose first leg of shooting was filmed in Bulgaria earlier this March. “It was a substantial part but as I was getting good offers from Telugu, I decided not to accept it,” Sudheer said.

In Telugu besides ‘Sammohanam’, which is scheduled to open in cinemas this Friday, the suave actor has own untitled production venture which is 80 per cent through. “We haven’t announced anything about the film because it’s a love story like ‘Sammohanam’ and we didn’t want to confuse the audience. We’ve attached the title teaser with ‘Sammohanam’ prints. It is being directed by RS Naidu who assisted Virinchi Varma in the past,” Sudheer pointed out. He also has Pullela Gopichand biopic in his kitty for which he will start shooting from September.

Two love stories ready to offer treat for audience

While the soaring temperatures have come down due to the arrival of monsoons, Telugu audience are going to get a breezy treat in theatres with two romantic entertainers next week in the form of Kalyan Ram’s Naa Nuvve and Sudheer Babu’s Sammohanam.

Naa Nuvve, directed by Jayendra, is a love tale between a radio jockey played by Tamannaah and a boy-next-door essayed by Kalyan Ram. The whiff of fresh air trailers and songs have created decent buzz around the film and Kalyan Ram’s fresh makeover has become a talking point among audience. Naa Nuvve is slated for release on June 14th.

Another romantic entertainer gearing for release next week is Sammohanam which presents the beautiful journey of a commoner who falls for a showbiz star. Sudheer Babu and Aditi Rao Hydari are the lead cast . Creative director Indraganti Mohan Krishna, known for his slice of life dramas, is the director for this authentic love saga which is brimmed with strong emotions. The film is releasing on June 15th.

Bollywood beauty Aditi Rao Hydari played the female lead in Sudheer Babu’s next romantic outing Sammohanam. Mohan Krishna Indraganti directed the movie which is slated for June 15th release. For the first time, Aditi Rao Hydari is dubbing for her role in Telugu. The makers released a video byte showcasing the dubbing skills of the actress.

Though it is the first time dubbing for her role, Aditi Rao Hydari made sure that she delivered out her best for Sammohanam. Vivek Sagar composed the music and Sri Devi Movies bankrolled the film. The movie is said to be a romantic entertainer and is a love story between a youngster and an actress. A grand pre-release event has been planned on June 10th and Superstar Mahesh Babu will attend the event as Chief Guest.
