Palvai Sravanthi is Cong candidate for Munugode by-poll

1

The Congress on Friday announced Palvai Sravanthi as its candidate for the forthcoming by-election to Munugode Assembly constituency in Telangana.

Interim party president Sonia Gandhi approved the name of Sravanthi as the party candidate, All India Congress Committee (AICC) General Secretary Mukul Wasnik said in a statement.

Sravanthi is the daughter of former MP Palvai Govardhan Reddy. The 49-year-old was among several aspirants for the ticket.

Local Congress leaders Challamalla Krishna Reddy, Palle Ravi Kumar, Kailash and other local leaders were aspiring for the ticket.

Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) President A. Revanth Reddy and Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Bhatti Vikramarka had held separate meetings with the ticket aspirants.

The state Congress unit had sent a report to the central leadership, suggesting four names. After going through the report about the strengths and weaknesses of the aspirants, the leadership chose Sravanthi as the party candidate.

“The candidate for forthcoming by-election for Munugode Assembly has been approved by Congress President Sonia Gandhi. My best wishes to sister Palvai Sravanthi. Our beloved leader Palvai Govardhan Reddy garu’s blessings will always be with us,” tweeted Revanth Reddy.

Munugode seat in Nalgonda district fell vacant following the resignation of Komatireddy Raj Gopal Reddy, who has also quit the Congress and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Raj Gopal Reddy was formally inducted into the BJP by Union Home Minister Amit Shah at a public meeting held at Munugode in August. He has announced that he will be contesting the by-election as a BJP candidate.

The ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) is yet to announce its candidate. Like the Congress, the TRS also has several contenders for the party ticket.

TRS President and Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao is likely to announce the candidate in the next few days.

The Election Commission has still not announced the schedule for the by-election. However, the political parties expect that the by-poll will be held in October or November this year.

TRS, Congress workers clash at Revanth Reddy’s residence

0

Tension prevailed at the residence of Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president A. Revanth Reddy here on Tuesday as workers of ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) tried to stage a protest, leading to a clash with the former’s supporters.

Protesting against Revanth Reddy’s remarks against their leader and state minister K.T. Rama Rao, a group of TRS workers tried to lay siege to the residence of Revanth Reddy at Jubilee Hills.

Raising slogans against the Congress leader, the protesters tried to burn his effigy but a group of Congress workers tried to stop them. This led to an argument and a clash between the two groups.

The clashing groups attacked each other with sticks and pelted stones. There were no reports of any injuries on either side. Police had to intervene to control the situation.

The Congress party leaders alleged that TRS ‘goons’ attacked Revanth Reddy’s house. Senior Congress leader Mallu Ravi has called for state-wide protests to condemn the incident.

Following the incident, police beefed up security around Revanth Reddy’s house.

The incident came a day after a Twitter war ensued between Revanth Reddy and KTR over the former’s ‘white challenge’ and the latter’s announcement to file a defamation suit against him.

The TPCC chief had alleged that the minister has links with drug scandal in the state. He had also challenged KTR to come forward to undergo drug test.

Responding to Revanth Reddy’s challenge, KTR had said that he was ready to undergo drug test if Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also comes forward to give his samples.

To create awareness among youth on increasing drug menace in the country, the Congress has started white challenge. Revanth Reddy announced that he and former MP K. Visheshwar Reddy graciously accepted the challenge and dared Rama Rao to join them at Martyrs’ Memorial at 12 noon for the same.

KTR tweeted that it is below his dignity to undergo tests with ‘Cherlapally jail alumni’. He was referring to ‘note for vote’ case in which Reddy was jailed.

Hours later, KTR announced he has filed a civil suit for defamation and for grant of perpetual injunction against Reddy for making baseless allegations linking him with the drugs scandal.

Meanwhile, TRS leaders said by making baseless allegations about drugs scandal the Congress leader is also damaging Hyderabad’s brand image.

Some TRS leaders cleaned Telangana martyrs’ memorial at Gun Park saying it has become unholy with Revanth Reddy’s visit. The Congress leader had reached Gun Park on Monday while inviting KTR to join him there for ‘white challenge’.

Telangana Congress seniors burst out against Manickam Tagore

1

The Congress Party’s August 30 meet to finanalise its candidate for Huzurabad bypolls has ended inconclusively. The party’s core team which met at the Gandhi Bhavan has decided to consult three key leaders from North Telangana – former ministers T Jeevan Reddy, D Sridhar Babu and former MP Ponnam Prabhakar – before finalising the party candidate.

The meeting held at Gandhi Bhavan was a stormy one. Several senior leaders, who attended the meet, flew into rage over the way the party affairs were being handled. They said that the party affairs should be conducted in a dignified manner and said that the way Manickam Tagore was running the party affairs was despicable. This was the first time that an open rebellion against Manickam Tagore was visible.

Manickam’s role in picking Revanth Reddy for the TPCC chief’s post is no secret and many seniors felt that he was bulldozing his way instead of achieving a consensus. Several seniors are still sullen and angry. They are keeping away from the day to day party affairs. Many are yet to join the SC Self-Respect Meets that PCC chief Revanth Reddy is planning. Some have even held separate meets in their constituencies and have not even bothered to invite Revanth Reddy.

The meeting was mainly organised to decide on the candidature of Revanth supporter and former minister Konda Surekha for Huzurabad. Key leaders from North Telangana such as Jeevan Reddy, Sridhar Babu and Ponnam Prabhakar have skipped the meet. Hence the leaders have decided to take their opinion before deciding on the candidate for Huzurabad. So, as of now the candidature of Surekha still hangs in the balance.

T-Cong seeks probe into Singareni job scam

0

The Telangana Congress today demanded a CBCID probe into the Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) job-recruitment ‘irregularities’. Party official spokesperson Mr. Konagala Mahesh presented a memorandum to the Power Minister Mr. Jagadeeswa Reddy with the documentary evidence. Mahesh met the Minister at the Secretariat along with dozens of victims of the alleged irregularities and scores of unemployed youth.

Later, addressing the media, Mahesh expressed dissatisfaction very first job recruitment activity initiated in the separate Telangana State. “The Public Sector Company issued notification to fill about 471 Assistant Grade posts. About 70,000 unemployed youth applied for the jobs. But only few families cornered the jobs. Some families got not only the first rank but also jobs to all those applied from it. About 70 jobs have been shared by a few families from Mancherial at the rate of two per family. Members from 54 families secured ranks below 250 and bagged 156 jobs. The family of the
official who committed the fraud has four of its members selected for the jobs. All these facts have come to fore because of the agitation by the youth who were denied jobs despite having been qualified and their parents,” he said.

Mahesh said there had been no action from the company’s vigilance wing even though the youth lodged a complaint with it. Responding to the complaint, Minister Jagadeeswar Reddy assured that he would personally look into the matter. According to Mahesh, the Minister also assured that he would blacklist JNTU which conducted the examinations in the event these irregularities proved are true and the Government would conduct the exam afresh in the interest of the unemployed.

T-Cong mulls PIL against ‘Water Grid’ corruption

0

T-Congress is planning to file a PIL in High Court on Water Grid project taken up Telangana government for the lack of transparency and the alleged corruption in the involved in the appointment of contractor for the massive project. TPCC president Uttam Kumar Reddy said the TRS government had violated all standard norms of conceiving and executing the water grid project indulging in massive corruption. He said there secrecy shrouded the project all levels. The Congress leaders also appealed to NABARD and HUDCO to be cautious in granting loans as this project lacked transparency and full of manipulations and corruption.

“father and son(chief minister KCR and son IT minister KT Ramarao) joined hands to favor one particular that is close to their family . This is unprecedented peculiarly and happend only Telangana,” he said. There was no information on what the actual utility of the project was, he said. “The detailed project report is not kept in public domain and inaccessible even to opposition parties. The project value has been escalated by more than 40%,” the PCC president added.

Stating that the government was not responding to the Congress demand to make the detailed project Report (DPR) public, Uttam said the whole project appears to have been conceived only to indulge in massive corruption and amass illegal wealth. “The project tender norms have been framed to favor a particular company which is close to the family of KCR, so that the so called company and their proxy outfit would benefit from the contract,” he said.

The Congress party, he said, was doing deep research and analysis of the whole project and surely would expose the corruption of the government in the on-going assembly session. ” we promise to the people of Telangana that we will not leave TRS and their corruption go scot-free,” Uttam said.Ex MP Mallu Ravi and Dr Sravan Dasoju, Chief were also present in press conference.

T-Cong stages walkout from Council on farmers’ suicides

0

Protesting the TRS government’s failure to give a concrete assurance to the farmers on one time settlement of loan waiver, Congress MLCs staged a walkout from Legislative council today. Opposition leader in Telangana Legislative Council Mohammed Ali Shabbir led the walkout. The Congress MLCs said the State Government had failed to give a specific date or assurance on when the remaining dues of crop loan waiver scheme would be cleared. The government did not announce moratorium to provide relief to farmers from private financiers as demanded by the Congress members. Shabbir Ali announced that the Congress party was staging a walkout from the House against the government’s apathy towards farmers problems.

Expressed dissatisfaction over the government’s casual reply for the deabte, he said t the State Government had failed to provide either long term or short term measures to the agrarian crisis.
“Why did the government fail to react after learning about first spate of suicides,” Shabbir Ali asked. “Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao and other ministers should have conducted Rythu Sadassus by involving all parties. They should have visited the affected families and conveyed a strong message to all farmers asking them not to resort to any extreme step. However, nothing was done,” said Shabbir Ali. The government did not even react to the Congress party’s demand for holding a special Assembly session. “This session has been convened after almost six months only to complete constitutional obligation and not to discuss the farmers’ suicides,” he said.

T-Cong demands House Probe into ryot suicides

0

Leader of Opposition in Legislative Council Mohammed Ali Shabbir demanded the constitution of a Legislature Committee to probe into the suicides committed by farmers and also to suggest measures to prevent agrarian crisis in future. Both houses, Assembly and Council took up the matter of suicides today.

Initiating the debate on farmers’ suicide in the State Legislative Council on Tuesday, Congress leader Shabbir Ali said that there had been a confusion over exact number of suicides due to farm related reasons since the formation of Telangana. Therefore, based on FIRs, all cases of farmers’ suicide should be re-investigated so as to get the exact statistics. He made it clear that the Congress party never indulged in politics over dead bodies. Therefore, it would support the State Government in all its initiatives to help the farmers and the families of those who committed suicide.

The Congress leader strongly criticized the TRS Government for splitting the crop loan waiver into four installments. While Rs. 4250 crore were paid in 2014-15, this year, second installment amount was further divided into two parts. Since entire dues were not cleared, the banks are not releasing the mortgaged documents, passbooks, gold, etc., to farmers. Therefore, the farmers feel more tortured than relieved due to the crop loan waiver scheme. never said that the crop loan would be waived in installments. At this point, Home Minister Nayani Narasimha Reddy intervened and blamed the Congress for farmers’ suicide. Responding to his allegation Shabbir Ali said it was ridiculous on the part of TRS to blame previous Congress regime. “Your government is now 16-month old. Stop behaving like an innocent and start accepting responsibilities,” Shabbir shot back.

VH Removes Portraits of 3 PCC Ex-chiefs From Gandhi Bhavan

0

Telangana Congress today disowned three past PCC presidents who ditched the party and crossed over to other parties. Rajya Sabha member V Hanumantha Rao accompanied by former minister R Damodar Reddy removed the portraits of former PCC presidents K Kesavarao, Botsa Satyanarayana and D Srinivas from the Conference hall of the party headquarters, Gandhi Bhavan. The hall, refurbished and airconditined by none other than Botsa when he was PCC president before 2014 elections, is adorned by the portraits of the PCC presidents ever since the Andhra Pradesh Congress (APCC) was formed in 1956. For the first time, party disowned three of its leaders and erased theie memories from the Gandhi Bhavan. Rao and Reddy  accused Srinivas of collecting money from the candidates while distributing the B-Forms.

“He( D Srinivas)  claimed that he had distributed 294 B-Form to candidates in various elections during his tenure as PCC president. Can he deny the fact the many candidates had to grease his hands to get their B-Form legitimately,” VH said.

Though he corned many posts claiming himself a BC leader, they accused, D Srinivas had never encouraged any BC leader.

“ DS’ crossing over to TRS will not affect  the Congress in any manner,” they said.
