BJP launches mass contact programme in Telangana

0

The BJP in Telangana on Thursday launched a mass contact programme to reach out to 35 lakh households across the state in a single day.

State party president Bandi Sanjay Kumar launched ‘Intintiki BJP’ (BJP to every household) programme in his Lok Sabha constituency of Karimnagar.

As part of the party’s “Maha Jan Sampark Abhiyaan” to explain the achievements of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government in the last nine years, all BJP functionaries from booth level to the state president will be reaching out to 35 lakh families.

Sanjay told media persons in Karimnagar that the programme started Thursday morning and claimed that in the first two hours, 10 lakh households were already covered.

He went door to door, interacted with people and distributed leaflets about the initiatives taken by the Modi government during the last nine years. He was also seen pasting BJP stickers at the entrances of the houses.

The leaflets explain how people benefited under Prime Minister Modi’s governance

Every booth level BJP leader has been asked to reach out to at least 100 households during the day. The party leaders have been asked to advise people to dial 90909024 and give a missed call as a token of acknowledgment.

Sanjay alleged that while the BJP-led government at the Centre was implementing several schemes for the poor, Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao had gone back on the promises he had made.

He said the BRS leader was doing nothing except abusing BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The BJP leader also alleged that KCR was raking up Telangana sentiment for electoral gains.

Union Minister for Tourism and Culture G. Kishan Reddy participated in the programme in his parliamentary constituency Secunderabad.

Adilabad MP Soyam Bapu Rao was also going door to door in his constituency.

Ex-Maoist ideologue Gaddar floats new political party in Telangana

1

Former Maoist ideologue and revolutionary balladeer Gaddar on Wednesday announced that he will float a new party namely Gaddar Praja Party.

He submitted an application with the Election Commission of India in New Delhi for the registration of the party. The development comes a few months before Telangana Assembly elections.

Gaddar told media persons that it will be a people’s party. “Since right to live itself is endangered, our party will fight to safeguard this basic right guaranteed by the Constitution of India,” he said.

Gaddar said people’s flag and agenda will be the party’s flag and agenda.

Replying to a query, he said he will contest elections. He, however, said the constituency will be decided by the party. “When I was fighting as an individual, I had said that I would contest against KCR but now there is a party and it will decide the constituency,” he said.

In October last year, Gaddar had joined Praja Shanti Party (PSP) of evangelist K. A. Paul and decided to campaign for the party in the Munugode Assembly by-election.

Soon after Gaddar announced formation of a separate party, Paul said he was suspending Gaddar from PSP.

Paul alleged that after joining PSP, Gaddar had struck a deal with Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee President Revanth Reddy.

Gaddar, who severed his ties with the Maoists in 2017, enrolled himself as a voter the same year and for the first time in his life he cast his vote in 2018.

There were speculations in September last year that he will join the Congress party. Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Bhatti Vikramarka had requested him to join the party and play an active role in politics.

Gaddar’s son G.V. Surya Kiran had joined Congress in 2018. Gaddar too campaigned for Congress in a few constituencies but he did not contest the elections.

Gummadi Vittal Rao, popularly known as Gaddar, was a revolutionary singer and a sympathiser of Naxalism, right from his days at the Osmania University Engineering College during the Telangana agitation in 1969-70s.

He went underground in the 1980s and founded Jana Natya Mandali, a travelling theatre group. Known for his soulful, melodious folk songs with simple lyrics, Gaddar attracted people, especially youth, towards Maoist ideology.

The group later became the cultural wing of the CPI(ML) People’s War, which merged with Maoist Communist Centre (MCC) in 2004 to form CPI(Maoist).

Gaddar had escaped an assassination bid in 1997. Unidentified men had shot him at his residence on the outskirts of Hyderabad. He had blamed police and the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) government for the assassination attempt.

In the first-ever direct talks between then Andhra Pradesh government and People’s War in 2004, Gaddar along with revolutionary writers and poets Varavara Rao and Kalyan Rao hadAacted as emissaries for the Maoists.

During his stint with the Maoist party, Gaddar strongly campaigned against electoral politics and called for a boycott of elections.

In 2017, he gave up Maoism and declared himself Ambedkarite.

Telangana BJP dares KCR for debate on Telangana development

0

BJP’s Telangana unit president Bandi Sanjay Kumar on Sunday dared Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao for a debate on development of Telangana during the last nine years.

He said Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy will participate in the debate on behalf of the BJP. “Let the Chief Minister come for the debate,” he told reporters in Karimnagar.

Sanjay said Chief Minister KCR should debate on the funds given by his government and the Centre for the state. He demanded that KCR also explain why he failed to fulfill the promises he made during previous elections and how he would repay Rs 5 lakh crore debts.

Sanjay, who is also a MP, reiterated that BJP will come to power on its own in Telangana.

He also made it clear that the BJP will continue good schemes being implemented now. He said the BJP would also continue the Dharani portal with certain changes. He remarked that it is a good move but it is being used to serve the interests of KCR family. “We will do justice to those who suffered because of the Dharani portal,” he said.

The BJP leader dismissed the allegations by the Congress party leaders that the BJP is hand-in-glove with BRS and claimed that Congress and BRS have a secret understanding. He pointed out that it was BJP which defeated BRS in Assembly by-elections in Dubbaka and Huzurabad and gave a tough fight to the party in Munugode and also in Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) elections. He wanted to know why Congress performed poorly in these elections and even forfeited deposits.

Sanjay also alleged that BRS provided funds to Congress party for Karnataka elections. He claimed that Congress MP Komatireddy Venkat Reddy and senior leader Jana Reddy have already stated that BRS and Congress will join hands.

The BJP leader said the collusion between BRS and Congress is clear from the fact that those elected on Congress ticket are joining BRS. “KCR decides candidates of both Congress and BRS. He has already decided candidates in 30 Assembly seats,” he said.

Sanjay also recalled that when the NDA fielded Droupadi Murmu, a tribal woman, as the candidate in the Presidential election, Congress and BRS together tried to defeat her.

Telangana CM directs to withdraw UAPA charges against ex-professor, 151 others

1

Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Saturday directed Director General of Police (DGP) Anjani Kumar to withdraw Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) against G. Haragopal, former professor at the University of Hyderabad and a human rights activist, and 151 others.

Following the Chief Minister’s direction, the DGP asked the Mulugu Superintendent of Police (SP), Gaush Alam, to consider withdrawing the FIR registered against Haragopal and others under UAPA.

For the first time in Telangana, the Tadvai police in Mulugu district had registered cases under UAPA against 152 persons, including Haragopal, in 2022.

In the 52-page FIR, the police named 152 persons who were booked under UAPA.

The police said that on August 19, 2022, complainant V. Shankar was performing his duty at Pasra Circle when he received information about an illegal assembly of CPI (Maoist) members from Telangana, including Bade Chokka Rao, Kankanala Raji Reddy, Koyada Sambaiah, Kursam Maggu, Madakam Sannal and others in the Beerella forest area.

Rights activist Haragopal, along with 151 others, was booked by the police under UAPA for his alleged links with Maoists, though he had claimed that he had no clue as to why they were booked.

Haragopal, who served as the Dean of School of Social Sciences at University of Hyderabad, had given a call to the society to respond as all those booked under UAPA fought for civil liberties and for the statehood to Telangana.

The well-known activist also reminded K. Chandrasekhar Rao of his word during the Telangana movement that after the formation of the state, he will be in the forefront for civil liberties.

“Doesn’t he know about our work,” Haragopal had asked.

He had also demanded that KCR rein in the police which act recklessly, and cautioned that if the police are not controlled, it would not be good for the Telangana government, which may have to pay a price in the next elections.

Ward office system launched in Hyderabad to improve citizen services

0

Initiating a new urban administrative reform, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) on Friday launched a ward office system to address public complaints about civic services at the ward level.

Municipal Administration Minister K. Taraka Rama Rao launched the new system to facilitate decentralization and people-centric governance.

GHMC will have a ward office in each of the 150 wards. Led by an Assistant Municipal Commissioner, each ward office will have a team of 10 officials to meet the service levels published in the citizens charter.

KCR, who inaugurated the GHMC ward office in Kachiguda, said that the system aims to streamline civic services and ensure faster access for the residents of Hyderabad. By bringing services closer to the communities, the system enables the GHMC to swiftly address public issues and deliver efficient solutions.

The ward offices will be headed by Assistant Municipal Commissioners, responsible for overseeing various departments. A dedicated team of 10 officers from departments such as road maintenance, sanitation, entomology, town planning, electricity, and water supply will operate from these offices.

This ensures that issues related to these departments are monitored and addressed efficiently at the ward level. KTR shared plans to attach additional officers from departments such as health and police to the ward offices in the future, ensuring comprehensive service delivery.

He Aoutlined the key features of the system, emphasizing the positive impact it will have on the citizens and governance.

Minister KTR acknowledged the existing dearth of bureaucracy at the ward level and highlighted how the ward office system bridges this gap and enhances local governance.

He underscored that the ward office system has been introduced with the genuine intention of providing good governance to the citizens of Hyderabad. He called upon all public representatives to rise above political affiliations to work together for the success of this system, emphasizing the importance of collaboration. He assured that the government would extend full support to the ward offices, irrespective of the political parties represented by the public representatives.

The success of this system in Hyderabad has the potential to serve as a model for other cities across the country. Minister KTR expressed his optimism that if the system proves effective in Hyderabad, it could be replicated nationwide, revolutionizing governance and service delivery. Hyderabad already stands at the forefront of cities known for their good governance, and the ward office system further strengthens this reputation.

T’gana Cong chief seeks forensic audit of transactions over Dharani portal

1

The political slugfest between Telangana’s ruling Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and opposition Congress over the Dharani portal has intensified with the latter making serious allegations and demanding a forensic audit of 25 lakh transactions made using the platform.

Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) President A. Revanth Reddy on Thursday alleged that by using Dharani portal, some people with the help of leaders of the ruling party were encroaching on the lands or indulging in other irregularities.

Revanth Reddy alleged that Chief Minister KCR and his son KTR were looting people’s money like cyber criminals. He also claimed that landlords and feudalists were behind the portal.

The Congress leader said the revenue record which should be with the government has fallen into the hands of IL&FS which is managing the portal. He questioned how the government can have an agreement with a company which defaulted on bank loans to the tune of Rs 90,000 crore.

He also alleged that TerraCIS Technologies which is managing Dharani portal on behalf of IL&FS has sold 52.26 per cent stake to a company from Philippines for Rs 1,275 crore.

He said the management of the portal has completely gone into the hands of Sridhar Raju.

All fees related to e-Dharani portal land transactions are going directly to the company run by Sridhar Raju.

Revanth said 25 lakh land transactions valued at Rs 50,000 crore are estimated to have been done over Dharani portal.

“The government is not getting anything from these transactions. The entire money is going to Sridhar Raju’s company,” he said.

The Congress leader claimed that when people are booking slots for registration by paying the fee but not going for registration, they are not getting back their money.

He demanded a forensic audit of 25 lakh transactions done on Dharani portal.

He also plans to approach investigating agencies to demand a thorough probe into Dharani. He said, if necessary, he would knock on the doors of the court.

Revanth also claimed that Dharani portal is not a brainchild of KCR but it started in 2010 in Orissa.

The CAG in its report suggested that the management of the Dharani portal should be handed over to the centrally supervised National Informatics Center (NIC).

The Congress leader’s fresh allegations came amid a war of words between KCR and Congress leaders.

Addressing public meetings, KCR had slammed the Congress party for opposing the Dharani portal and promising to throw it in the Bay of Bengal if voted to power in the coming elections.

KCR urged people to throw the Congress party into the Bay of Bengal. He alleged that the Congress wanted to bring back the system of middlemen.

The BRS government brought the Dharani portal in 2020 as a one-stop solution for all land records under large-scale reforms in the revenue system. The opposition parties, however, say that the Dharani portal added to the problems of land owners, especially farmers.

Telangana BJP pins hopes on Amit Shah’s June 15 public meeting

0

Rattled by the drubbing in last month’s Karnataka Assembly elections and worried over its likely impact on Telangana polls, the BJP leaders in Telangana are looking forward to Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s visit to the state on June 15 to motivate the party cadres.

Amit Shah will address a public meeting at Khammam and the saffron party is making elaborate arrangements to mobilize at least one lakh people.

The meeting is expected to lift the sagging morale of the party in the wake of shock defeat in Karnataka and prepare it for the Telangana Assembly polls due to be held in November-December.

Shah’s visit also comes amid the internal strife in the BJP with a section of leaders demanding a change in the state leadership and the party’s failure to lure former MP Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy and former minister Jupally Krishna Rao to its fold.

Both the leaders were recently suspended by the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) for anti-party activities. Srinivasa Reddy, who is from Khammam district, is reported to have made his mind to join Congress.

BJP MLA Eatala Rajender, who heads the joining committee of the party, failed to persuade the two leaders to join the saffron party. During the meetings with Rajender, they in turn advised him to quit the BJP.

Rajender and some other BJP leaders who joined the party in recent years are said to be unhappy with Bandi Sanjay and demanded the central leadership to appoint a new leader.

A recent reported statement by a senior central leader of the BJP about the saffron party’s real strength in the state has also dealt a blow to its rank and file. The leader reportedly admitted that BJP is trailing at third position in the state.

The BJP has been trying to project itself as the only viable alternative to BRS. Its top leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Amit Shah exuded confidence at many occasions that the party will storm to power in Telangana.

Meanwhile, Bandi Sanjay visited Khammam to review the arrangements for Amit Shah’s public meeting. He was confident that through the success of this public meeting, BJP would give a befitting reply to its political rivals about its strength in Khammam district.

Both BRS and the Congress party have been mocking BJP over lack of presence in Khammam district.

Sanjay said a committee comprising senior leaders will be constituted to ensure mobilisation of people for the public meeting. He asked BJP cadres at booth level to make plans for bringing people to the public meeting.

He claimed that a march of unemployed organised by the party in Khammam recently was a huge success. He also stated that several districts wanted to host the Home Minister’s public meeting but the party chose Khammam to show its strength in the district.

He also alleged that BRS, Congress and a section of the media had conspired to damage the morale of BJP.

BRS mulls campaign in all constituencies of Maharashtra Assembly

0

In a major exercise to expand in Maharashtra, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) is planning a campaign in all 288 Assembly constituencies by highlighting Telangana development model.

BRS national president and Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao suggested the BRS leadership to take up the campaign. He asked them to constitute nine committees in every village with the participation of all sections of people.

Leaders from different parties and social organisations from Maharashtra continue to join BRS. For a second consecutive day several leaders joined the BRS in the presence of CM KCR at Pragati Bhavan, his official residence on Thursday.

Addressing the leaders, KCR said that the Telangana development model mainly the welfare of people and the farmers should be spread widely through leaflets, booklets, social media, posters, hoardings etc. The BRS chief said that the party is working with a spirit of extending Telangana schemes to the people of Maharashtra as well. He noted that people from all walks of life including farmers are extending support to the BRS.

KCR lamented that the Maharashtra government is not able to provide irrigation water to the farmers of Maharashtra despite the state being blessed with abundant water resources. Many leaders became Chief Ministers and Union Ministers, but the people of Maharashtra have not been taken care of, he remarked.

The BRS leader said that the Telangana government introduced Dharani portal and took up digitization of revenue records. The registration process is completed within 10 minutes and transparent services are being provided to the farmers through Dharani. He said many measures were taken for the development of the agricultural sector including introducing Rythu Bandhu, Rythu Bhima, 24 hours free electricity and free irrigation to the farming community.

Maharashtra has been the focus of KCR ever since he turned Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) into BRS late last year to expand the party across the country. He already addressed five public meetings in the neighbouring states.

At his previous public meeting on May 19, he had announced a month-long programme to expand BRS across Maharashtra.

Inaugurating a training camp for the party leaders, he had said the BRS will undertake an extensive campaign to expand in over 45,000 villages and 5,000 municipal wards in civic bodies.

He asked party workers to go to five villages every day, interact with people and dine with Dalits.

KCR said party flags will be hoisted in every village. ‘Ab ki Baar kisan sarkar’ caps will be distributed. Leaders will address the meetings. Books and pamphlets will be distributed in every village.

People of Telangana are with me, says Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan

1

Amid continued friction with the Telangana government, Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan said on Friday that people of the state are with her.

She declined to comment on whether the state government invited her for Telangana formation day celebrations or not.

After the review meeting, he went to the Martyrs’ Memorial being built on the banks of Hussain Sagar lake near the Secretariat and inspected the construction work going on there. He suggested the installation of Telangana Talli Statue in front of the Martyrs’ Memorial.

KTR slams Centre over treatment meted out to wrestlers

1

Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president K.T. Rama Rao has slammed the Centre for the treatment meted out to wrestlers during their protest in New Delhi.

“Can any responsible leader from Govt of India tell us why it has to be this way?,” KTR asked on Twitter.

“These are champions who brought us glory on world stage! They deserve our support and respect,” he said.

KTR, who is also a state minister, was reacting to a tweet by wrestler Sakshi Malik, who posted a video clip in which police personnel are seen dragging the wrestlers.

Police had detained protesting wrestlers who were trying to march towards the new Parliament when it was being inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The wrestlers, who started the march from the site of protest at Jantar Mantar, were stopped by the police from proceeding towards the new Parliament. There was a scuffle when the protesters breached the security cordon.

Wrestlers Vinesh Phogat, Sakshi Malik and Bajrang Punia were detained by the Delhi Police. They along with their supporters wanted to hold ‘Mahila Mahapanchayat’ near the new Parliament building demanding arrest of Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh for allegedly sexually harassing women wrestlers including a minor.

Brij Bhushan Singh is a BJP MP from Kaiserganj in Uttar Pradesh.

Brahmin Sadan has come up on a sprawling nine acres of land at Gopanpally.

KCR reviewed the arrangements for the inauguration with the President and members of Telangana Brahmin Welfare Parishad.

He suggested that the Brahmin Sadan collect information related to spiritual literature and rituals from all over the country and preserve it in books and digital format and make it available to all.

The Chief Minister said that it is the responsibility of the society to protect the Vedic ‘purohits’ who are always engaged in the service of well-being of the whole world and in the divine service. He said that the same philosophy is involved behind the implementation of many schemes for the welfare of Brahmins.

The Chief Minister said that Telangana has become a centre of spirituality with the revival of temples and spiritual and religious programmes organised across the state. The Chief Minister said that priests and Vedic scholars are migrating from other states to Telangana for employment. He claimed that along with all communities, Telangana has become a centre of employment for Brahmins.

President of Telangana Brahmin Welfare Parishad K. V. Ramanachari explained to Chief Minister KCR the implementation of development programmes for the welfare of Brahmins for the last six years. He said that since the establishment of the Welfare Parishad, around 6,500 families have been benefited.

The Chief Minister said that in addition to the existing schemes, some more programmes should be designed to provide support to the poor Brahmins.

Cong bastions in 2004, Telugu states today offer little hope to the party

0

A repeat of 2004 in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections for the Congress in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh is highly unlikely, considering the current standing of the party and changed political dynamics in both the Telugu states.

The bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh in 2014 to carve out Telangana state and consequent public ire, have wiped out Congress in the residuary state of Andhra Pradesh, while in Telangana the party failed to politically cash in on the credit of creating Telangana state.

Desertion of the party by several key leaders in the aftermath of the bifurcation, lack of any charismatic face, continued infighting in the party, series of electoral reverses have considerably weakened the party in its former strongholds.

After drawing a blank in both the Assembly and Lok Sabha in two successive elections (2014 and 2019), the Congress has already yielded the political space to the ruling YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) in Andhra Pradesh.

In Telangana, defections, electoral losses and infighting has pushed Congress into a tight spot and regaining the lost glory remains a daunting task for the party with Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) sitting pretty to win another term.

Undivided Andhra Pradesh was an important bastion of Congress party and its performance in the state in 2004 and 2009 had propelled Congress-led UPA to power at the Centre for two terms.

In 2004, the Congress party had not only ended the decade-long rule of Telugu Desam Party (TDP) to come back to power in Andhra Pradesh with a landslide majority but also bagged 30 out of 42 Lok Sabha seats to contribute significantly to the party’s national tally.

This performance was mainly credited to the charismatic leadership of Y S. Rajasekhara Reddy or YSR as he was popularly known.

With a pro-poor image and pathbreaking schemes for welfare of farmers and weaker sections of the society, he consolidated party’s position and riding on the popularity retained power in 2009 despite popular Telugu actor Chiranjeevi taking a plunge into politics with Praja Rajyam Party.

In the simultaneous Lok Sabha elections, Congress bagged 34 out of 42 seats to once again play a key role in formation of UPA government at the Centre.

However, a few months later with the death of YSR in a helicopter crash dramatically altered the political scene and triggered the party’s downfall.

The revolt by YSR’s son Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy plunged the Congress party into a crisis. Later, Jagan floated his own party YSR Congress to eat into Congress votes.

The death of YSR also provided an opportunity to K. Chandrasekhar Rao-led Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) to launch a mass movement for statehood to Telangana.

KCR’s indefinite fast forced the UPA government to announce on December 9, 2009 that the process for formation of Telangana state will be initiated. This triggered massive protests in Seemandhra (Rayalaseema and Andhra regions). The UPA government backtracking on the announcement and protests and counter-protests threw the entire state into chaos and uncertainty for four years.

A few months before the 2014 elections, the UPA government decided to grant statehood to Telangana. It faced open revolt from Congress leaders in Seemandhra including then Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy. Several powerful leaders deserted the Congress party in Seemandhra when a Bill was passed in the Parliament amid high drama to bifurcate Andhra Pradesh.

In the simultaneous Assembly and Lok Sabha elections held days before formal bifurcation, Congress was wiped out in Seemandhra due to people’s anger. The party could not win a single Assembly (out of 175 seats) or Lok Sabha seat (out of total 25) and there was no improvement in 2019.

The Congress which was hoping to politically benefit in Telangana by claiming credit for delivering a separate state was in for a rude shock. In 119-member Assembly, the party could win 21 seats while TRS formed the first government in the new state. Out of 17 Lok Sabha seats, Congress could win two. Defections of Congress MLAs and resignation of several leaders to join TRS further weakened the party.

The slide continued in 2018. Despite an alliance with the TDP, Left and other small parties, Congress could win only 19 assembly seats while TRS retained power by increasing its tally from 63 to 88. The Congress could not keep its flock together as a dozen MLAs defected to TRS a few months later. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Congress managed to win three seats.

The performance of Congress in 2024 Lok Sabha elections in Telangana may depend on the outcome of assembly elections scheduled in November-December this year.

Political analysts say despite the euphoria created by Congress party’s victory in Karnataka, the grand old party faces an uphill task in Telangana. Projecting itself as the true champion of Telangana interests, BRS (earlier TRS) is in a strong position .

The BJP’s emergence as the main opponent to BRS has pushed the Congress party to the third place. “The BJP has succeeded in building a narrative of BRS versus BJP,” said political analyst Palwai Raghavendra Reddy

Series of defections, defeat in all the by-elections, disastrous performance in Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) elections and continued infighting have all weakened the Congress party, which has also lost the status of main opposition in assembly with its tally coming down to just five.

The appointment of Revanth Reddy as the new state president by the central leadership in 2021 after ignoring several seniors and strong contenders triggered open revolt by a section of leaders, who saw Revanth as an outsider as he had defected to Congress from TDP just before 2018 elections.

The change of guard also could not bring any change in the party’s fortunes. Several seniors started openly attacking Revanth Reddy for sidelining them.

The continuing slide raised new questions on the leadership of Revanth Reddy, whose style of functioning also irked some seniors. Recently when he packed the party panels with his loyalists, the senior raised a banner of revolt and launched a movement to save the party. They called it a fight between real Congress leaders and migrants from other parties.

The allegation by seniors that AICC incharge Manickam Tagore is siding Revanth Reddy forced the central leadership to intervene and replace him with Manikrao Thakare.

K’taka poll result will have no bearing on T’gana, says KTR

1

Telangana’s ruling party Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has said that the results of assembly elections in Karnataka will have no bearing on Telangana.

“Just the way The Kerala Story failed to amuse people of Karnataka, similarly Karnataka election results will have no bearing on Telangana,” BRS working president and Telangana minister K.T. Rama Rao, popularly known as KTR, tweeted on Saturday.

KTR, who is currently on a visit to the UK, thanked the people of Karnataka for rejecting ‘ugly and divisive politics’.

“Let Hyderabad and Bengaluru compete healthily for investments & creating infrastructure for the greater good of India,” said KTR, minister for information technology and industries.

KTR, who is the son of BRS president and Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, conveyed his best wishes to the new Congress government in Karnataka.

KTR’s assertion that the Karnataka verdict will have no bearing on Telangana came after Telangana Congress chief A. Revanth Reddy claimed that this poll result will be repeated in Telangana.

Assembly elections in Telangana are scheduled to be held towards the year-end.

BRS, which formed the first government in the new state in 2014 and retained power in 2018, is confident of scoring a hat-trick.

The Congress, which failed to make a mark despite claiming credit for carving out Telangana state, is hoping that 2023 will reverse its political fortunes in the state.

The Congress camp is apparently upbeat over the result in Karnataka, where the BJP failed to retain power.

Congress leaders believe that the party will repeat its performance in Telangana despite BJP’s claims of emerging as the key challenger to the BRS.
