0

Chief Minister and YSR Congress president Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy on Wednesday confirmed the candidature of Devineni Avinash for the 2024 elections from the Vijayawada East Assembly constituency.

The chief had already warned over 40 sitting MLAs of denying the ticket for the next elections due to their poor performance in the constituency. Sitting MLAs like Anam Ramanarayana Reddy from Venkatagiri in Nellore district and Vasantha Krishna Prasad from Mylavaram in the NTR district are among those who are likely to be dropped from the 2024 contest.

Meanwhile, Jagan Mohan Reddy made this announcement of Avinash at the party workers meeting from the Vijayawada East Assembly constituency held on Wednesday at his camp office. Jagan Mohan Reddy asked the rank and file of the party to work hard for the next election to stay in power for the next 30 years.

He also asked them to keep their differences aside and work together. He said he would address their grievances at an appropriate time and asked them not to disturb the party. He also told them that the government would roll out the family doctor programme from Ugadi and that would reach every household.

IT officials search Devineni Avinash house

1

In a surprise move, the Income Tax officials on Tuesday conducted searches in the house of YSR Congress leader Devineni Avinash in Vijayawada. The IT officials reached the house early in the morning and conducted searches in his house located in Gunadala.

On learning about the IT raids, hundreds of Devineni followers reached the house and held a protest against the raids. They raised slogans in support of Avinash and his family. They also condemned the IT raids on their leader’s house.

With a large gathering outside Avinash’s house, vehicular traffic on the Eluru Road came to a standstill for several hours. The traffic police reached the place and cleared the vehicular movement.

The IT raids are said to be connected to the property deals by the Devineni family in Jubilee Hills area in Hyderabad. The family is connected with the land even when former minister Devineni Rajasekhar Nehru was alive. The issue was said to be resolved when late Dr Y S Rajasekhar Reddy was the chief minister.

Meanwhile, the IT officials also raided the residence and offices of Vamsiram Builders in Hyderabad. Raids were also conducted simultaneously in Vijayawada and Nellore offices of the builders, besides in the houses of its directors across the two Telugu states.

Sources say that about 20 senior officials of the IT department were present during the searches in Hyderabad, Vijayawada and Nellore.

Vangaveeti man takes dictation from Devineni clan

Politics makes strange bed-fellows. But, these unlikely alliances cause a lot of inconvenience too. The newly appointed Kapu Corporation chairperson Adapa Seshu is learning this fast. He now realizes that his political elevation has its own strange set of problems.

Adapa Seshu is a known Vangaveeti Ranga acolyte. His politics began with Ranga’s son Vangaveeti Radhakrishna. He made his political foray with Radha in 2004 elections. Later, Radhakrishna himself made Adapa Seshu a corporator in Vijayawada municipal chairperson. All through he stayed by Radha’s side but in 2019, Radhakrishna joined the TDP. At this point, he parted company with Radhakrishna and stayed with the YSRCP.

In the post 2019 developments, Vangaveeti family’s arch rival Devineni Nehru’s son Devineni Avinash joined the YSRCP and was soon appointed YSRCP Vijayawada incharge. Now, Seshu’s political mentor Vangaveeti is in TDP and his arch rival Devineni is in YSRCP. Now, Seshu is forced to engage Devineni Avinash and keep a distance from Vangaveeti. Now with his appointment as the AP Kapu Corporation chief, Seshu’s problems have only grown manifold.

He is now a state-level Kapu figure. But in Vijayawada, he has to meet Devineni Avinash, who belongs to a social community that is considered a rival of the Kapus. So, every time he is meeting Avinash, Seshu is facing backlash from his own community. He is being trolled on social media and the Kapus are showing unabashed anger at him. Seshu is finding it very difficult to convince his own community on this issue. A Vangaveeti acolyte, Seshu is now forced to be pally with Devineni clan. This is turning out to be a tight-rope walk for him.

Avinash resigns from TDP, to join YCP today evening

0

Telugu Yuvatha State President Devineni Avinash resigned from the TDP. Along with him, Devineni family close follower Kadiyala Buchibabu also put in his resignation. Avinash will now join the YCP at 4 pm today itself. This incident is creating tremors in the Vijayawada city politics.

Analysts say that CM Jaganmohan Reddy is obviously aiming at disturbing the opposition parties in the face of increasing public disappointment against his government in the state. Jagan Reddy party won with a massive victory with 151 out of the total 175 MLA seats. He initially sounded very arrogant and disrespectful towards the TDP leaders. But after five months, Jagan Reddy is making frustrated efforts to win over rival leaders with threats and inducements.

For the last two months, the YCP leaders have made continued efforts to somehow attract Devineni Avinash. Finally, they succeeded by promising a better future for him. TDP Chief Chandrababu Naidu is busy with Sand Deeksha. He is yet to react on Avinash issue.

Vijayawada East ticket behind Devineni party change?

0

Telugu Yuvatha President Devineni Avinash has almost decided to join the YCP following lack of expected recognition within the TDP. It is being considered a painful decision for him as his father Devineni Nehru began his political career in TDP and was long associated with the party. Avinash took the final decision after getting green signal from CM Jagan Reddy for contesting from Vijayawada East assembly on YCP ticket in the next elections.

Jagan Reddy is moving ahead with all electoral calculations along caste and religious lines. On the one hand, he is demolishing Amaravati Capital City saying that it belongs to one particular caste. On the other hand, he is wooing strong leaders from that community to retain undisputed political power. Vijayawada East is the most challenging segment for YCP because of the dominant presence of Kamma caste voters. This is why YCP leaders made all out efforts and finally convinced Devineni Avinash.

The followers of Devineni family say that Avinash will not get such an offer if he continues in the TDP. In last elections, he was made to go and contest in Gudivada segment. YCP made sure that Avinash decision come to the surface to give a blow to Chandrababu when he is sitting on sand deeksha today.

YCP non-stop campaign on Devineni Avinash

0

In Vijayawada city, the Devineni and the Vangaveeti families have strong base and both these groups are opposing the ruling YCP. As a result, the YCP is struggling to establish its firm hold in AP cultural capital despite being in power. Devineni Avinash is Telugu Yuvatha President and he is considered a source of strength for TDP as he is heading a long-standing powerful group since the death of his father Nehru. So YCP firmly believes that the TDP will bite the dust in Vijayawada politics if Avinash joins it. But the young leader is totally unwilling to shift his loyalty.

However, the YCP social media is continuing its campaign putting out stories about Devineni Avinash leaving the TDP on a regular basis. This has created a lot of confusion among the Devineni followers. This is why Avinash is forced to issue clarification every time there’s a rumour. Now, Avinash is talking in terms of his firm resolve to continue in TDP till his last breath.

The YCP rumours about Avinash are gaining credibility because his father Nehru was once a close friend of YS Rajasekhar Reddy. This may be the reason why CM Jagan has a soft corner towards Avinash despite his strong opposition to YCP. No police case is filed against Avinash while Gannavaram MLA Vallabhaneni Vamsi and others are facing police harassment.

Devineni era ends in Vijayawada, a remarkable leader in AP politics

Vijayawada: The sudden death of former minister and senior Telugu Desam leader Devineni Rajasekhar Nehru during early hours on Monday had cast a shadow on the State politics, particularly the politics of Vijayawada. A man who had his say in the Vijayawada politics in 1980s was a friend of a few and foe of many. Started his public life as an associate of faction Vangaveeti Radha, both of them as loyalists of the then Communist leader Chalasani Venkata Rathnam, Nehru was active in organising the cycle rickshaw and taxi drivers in the 1980s. Later, he separated from Vangaveeti family and that separation had turned the city into a battle field for one full decade. He lost his two brothers, Gandhi and Murali, in the faction fight with the Vangaveeti family, which also lost its key players, Radha an Ranga in the same period.

Nehru, after separation from Vangaveeti brothers, established United Students Organisation (USO) in Vijayawada and thus made inroads into the colleges in the city capturing the youth. The USO, in just less than one year time, became a big competitor to the Vangaveeti’s United Independents (UI) students wing, in whose formation Nehru and his brothers played crucial role. The city had witnessed the daylight terrifying murders starting from the killing of Vangaveeti Radha, the elder brother of Vangaveeti Ranga, in 1974. The feud took its ugliest turn when the Vangaveeti’s group retaliated Devineni brothers killing Devineni Gandhi in 1979 in a filmy chase. The Devineni family also lost Murali in March 1988 and that followed the death of Vangaveeti Ranga in December 1988.

Nehru swung into active politics in 1982 with the launch of Telugu Desam Party by N T Rama Rao and became MLA in 1983. He was a five-time MLA from Kankipadu Assembly constituency and was a Cabinet Minister for a brief period during N T Rama Rao’s term from 1994 to 1995. He sailed with N T Rama Rao in the 1995 August silent coupe led by N Chandrababu Naidu and stayed with NTR till the later died. He was part of the NTR Telugu Desam Party launched by NTR’s widow Lakshmi Parvathi and had contested to Lok Sabha from Vijayawada in 1996 elections. After his defeat in the elections, he joined the Congress and subsequently became very close to late Dr Y S Rajasekhar Reddy.

Though he had won in the 2004 elections, he could not make it to the Congress cabinet headed by Dr Rajasekhar Reddy. However, he lost in 2009 and again in 2014. He had been a staunch critic of Chandrababu Naidu for all these years. However, the return of Chandrababu Naidu to power in the state in 2014 elections had changed the equations. Besides, the crushing defeat of the Congress had also prompted him to return to the TDP along with his son, Devineni Avinash and other supporters.

Nehru is an accused in the cases of Vangaveeti Ranga, Muthyala Sobhanadri, in which he was later acquitted. A man who commanded the district politics once and has a greater following across the State lost his life without achieving his dream of winning the elections once again and seeing his son Avinash becoming MLA.
