Now, KCR eyes Huzurabad via Nagarjunasagar!

1

When it comes to devising election strategies to win elections, TRS chief and Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao will go to any extent and give Opposition parties sleepless nights.

He did not go back on even to give Rs 10 lakh to each dalit family in Huzurabad in the name of Dalit Bandhu scheme to woo dalits who are a majority in the constituency to win by poll and settle scores with his friend turned foe Etela Rajender.

Now KCR has decided to tour Nagarjunasagar constituency on August 2 to review development works in constituency.

KCR made several promises to win Nagarjunasagar by poll in April this year and also promised to visit Nagarjunasagar within 15 days of TRS winning election.

TRS won but KCR did not visit Nagarjunasagar even after nearly four months. Now KCR is making same promises for Huzurabad by poll.

Opposition parties are campaigning in Huzurabad saying KCR only makes promises to win by polls but never fulfills after elections.

To counter this, KCR decided to visit Nagarjunasagar on August 2 and send a message to Huzurabad voters that his promises are not fake.

RS Praveen Kumar not to be TRS candidate from Huzurabad

0

Now it’s almost official. Controversial Dalit activist and IPS officer RS Praveen Kumar is not going to be the TRS candidate from Huzurabad. There is no question of his taking on Eatala Rajendra in the bye election.

Political analysts say there are two indications for this. Firstly, RS Praveen Kumar has not been invited to the launch of the Dalit Bandhu scheme on July 26. His name does not figure among the 412 persons invited to the launch. This also means that he will not be made incharge of KCR’s Dalit-vote-catching scheme. Secondly, RS Praveen Kumar himself has been on an attacking mode when it comes to KCR.

Speaking at a felicitation function organized in Pothireddypalle of Sangareddy district, he said that KCR is not sincere about Dalits. He said KCR has in fact duped the Dalits of Telangana by making the false promise of making a Dalit the first CM of Telangana. That promise has never been fulfilled, he said. This was nothing but a ploy to fool the Dalits, he said. Also, he said that KCR was raining Rs 1000 crore for Huzurabad only with an eye on the bye-elections. He said KCR is only using schemes like Dalit Bandhu only to garner votes.

More importantly, he has indicated that he would serve the Dalits after his retirement. If sources are to be believed, he is thinking on the lines of forming a political party to fight for the rights of the Dalits in Telangana. He has been repeatedly talking about Bahujans after his retirement. Sources say that it is now clear that he would not contest the Huzurabad elections as a TRS candidate and also that he may not take up the stewardship of Dalit Bandhu scheme.

Is KCR using Kokapet land auction money in Huzurabad?

1

The TRS government in Telangana has recently auctioned government land parcels in Kokapet.

The 50 acres land parcels fetched Rs 2,000 crore for state government at the average price of Rs 40 crore per acre. The highest bid was Rs 60 crore per acre for one plot.

The auction was held on July 15 and Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao announced a new scheme on July 18 called Dalit Bandhu for the empowerment of dalits in Telangana under which Rs 10 lakh will be credited in the bank accounts of each Dalit family.

KCR announced that he will launch this scheme from Huzurabad soon where the bypoll is round the corner following the resignation of Etela Rajender.

KCR announced to sanction Rs 2,000 crore for implementation of Dalit Bandhu in Huzurabad to benefit 20,000 Dalit families.

This coincidence of Kokapet land auction fetching Rs 2,000 on July 15 and KCR sanctioning Rs 2,000 crore for Huzurabad to implement Dalit Bandhu scheme within three days on July 18 fuelled speculations in political circles that KCR diverted Kokapet land auction amount to Huzurabad to win upcoming bypoll.

Opposition parties are alleging that KCR is not going back even to sell off government lands to buy votes to win elections in the name of welfare schemes.

The opposition leaders are saying that no government land parcel will be left in Telangana if TRS government auctions lands to raise money to win polls.

Will RS Praveen Kumar be the TRS candidate from Huzurabad?

0

Will senior IPS officer RS Praveen Kumar be made the TRS candidate from Huzurabad? This is the question uppermost in the minds of political pundits soon after the news of his resignation from the civil services became public. Praveen Kumar, though controversial for his anti-Hindu pledge and autocratic in his demeanor, is hugely popular among the dalit communities.

Highly placed reports say that he is likely to be made the CEO of the ambitious Dalit Bandhu scheme that the TRS chief and CM KCR is launching ahead of the Huzurabad byelections. The scheme is being launched from Huzurabad itself. He would be given the responsibility of running the scheme, sources say.

At the same time, there are rumours that he would be made the candidate from the Huzurabad constituency. The TRS feels that he would be the best candidate to take on Eatala Rajender. Praveen Kumar has great credibility as an honest official and his anti-Naxal activities have endeared him to large sections of the society. He would also be able to leverage on the Dalit Bandhu scheme and give a tough fight to Eatala.

RS Praveen Kumar’s close relative Metuku Anand is a senior TRS leader and is an MLA from Vikarabad. For the last two days, Metuku Anand is said to have met KCR at least twice and discusses several issues. The name of Pravee Kumar may have come up during the discussion, sources say. Praveen could be made a member of the TRS and then be given the Huzurabad ticket, the sources say.

However, some persons known to be close to RS Praveen Kumar, say that he might work to resurrect Bahujan Samaj Party in Telangana. He is a well-known Dalit activist and is known to have links with Dalit activists like Jignesh Mevani of Gujarat. His moves would become public in a couple of days, say sources.

Why is Sharmila’s party not contesting from Huzurabad?

2

Finally, YS Sharmila has launched her party and has shown all intent to become a potent and powerful political player in Telugu politics. But, will she face the first biggest test of her strength or give a simple walkover? Will she fight the upcoming bypolls or will she opt out of the contest?

In her first ever press conference after launching the party, Sharmila has clearly indicated that her party is not going to contest from Huzurabad assembly constituency, which will soon witness a bypoll. Why is she not contesting in this all-important poll, which is politically a make or break election for Telangana? After all, this is a fight between the might of KCR and his long-time associate-cum-rival Eatala Rajender. Both are fighting a very serious battle and are pitting their strengths into the battle. Such being the case, why is Sharmila shying away from trying her hand?

Sharmila says that since this bypoll was all about revenge, it would be essentially bipolar and that other parties do not stand a chance. She says this election is a fight between two individuals and that YSRCP does not want to be part of it. So, we are not contesting, she told the mediapersons. She also said that nothing would change on the ground regardless of the outcome of the elections.

But analysts say that Sharmila does not want to enter the fray as she knows she is sure to get defeated in the election. She does not have her organisational structure in place in many places in Telangana and especially in Huzurabad. She is yet to form her committees in the region. There is no point fighting a poll without a strong candidate and proper organisational structure. Also, a defeat at this stage will make people write her off in Telagnana.

Highly placed sources say that Shamila may have taken this decision on the basis of the advice given by her elections spin doctor Priya, who is an associate of Prashant Kishore. So, one may have to wait for some more time to test the real strength of YS Sharmila’s party.

Telangana Congress appoints in charge for Huzurabad bypoll

1

Stepping up its efforts on the ensuing by-election to Huzurabad Assembly constituency in Telangana, the Congress on Wednesday named an in charge and election coordinators.

State Congress chief A. Revanth Reddy appointed senior leader and former Deputy Chief Minister Damodar Rajanarasimha as the in charge for the constituency.

Senior leaders and legislators T. Jeevan Reddy and D. Sridhar Babu, and former MP Ponnam Prabhakar have been named as the election coordinators.

Revanth Reddy, who took over as state chief last week, also appointed in charges for five mandals and two towns in the constituency. They will coordinate with the party functionaries to strengthen the party in the constituency.

He also named Karimnagar district Congress committee President K. Satyanarayana as the control room coordinator.

Rajanarasimha thanked Congress chief Sonia Gandhi, party leader Rahul Gandhi and Revanth Reddy for appointing him in charge of Huzurabad by-election. He said he would do his best to fulfill the responsibilities given to him.

His appointment came two days after the party expelled P. Kaushik Reddy for anti-party activities. Kaushik Reddy, who was the party in charge for the constituency, landed in trouble after an audio of his telephonic conversation with an activist of ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) surfaced.

In the audio, Kaushik Reddy was heard claiming that he will contest the by-election on a TRS ticket and asked the TRS activist to mobilise party workers who can campaign for him.

After the Congress served him a show-cause notice, Kaushik Reddy announced his resignation targeting Revanth Reddy and other leaders. He alleged that the Congress leaders were not serious in contesting the by-election. The party announced that it has expelled Kaushik Reddy.

Huzurabad seat fell vacant following resignation of former minister E. Rajender from the Assembly. Rajender, who was dropped from the State Cabinet in May, quit the TRS and joined the BJP last month. He will be contesting the by-election as a BJP candidate.

Over 80% polling in Telangana’s Huzurnagar assembly bypoll

0

More than 80 per cent turnout was recorded in the by-election to Huzurnagar Assembly constituency in Telangana on Monday, poll officials said.

The polling ended peacefully at 5 p.m. but those standing in queues at the polling stations were being allowed to cast their votes.

A huge turnout of 82.23 per cent was recorded till 5 p.m. Officials at the office State Chief Electoral Officer said the final polling percentage will be known later.

A turnout of 85.96 per cent was recorded in the constituency in the Assembly elections held in December 2018.

Enthusiasm among voters marked the polling, which began at 7 a.m. at all 302 polling stations in the constituency in Suryapet district. Long queues of men and women voters were seen at majority of the booths.

The constituency recorded 31.34 per cent voters by 11 a.m. It picked up further in the afternoon to reach 69.95 at 3 p.m.

A total of 2,36,842 voters were eligible to exercise their franchise in the by-election, the first since the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) retained power in the state in December 2018.

While 28 candidates including three women are in fray, the main contest is between TRS candidate S. Saidi Reddy and opposition Congress party’s N. Padmavati Reddy, wife of state Congress chief Uttam Kumar Reddy.

The by-poll was necessitated by the resignation of Uttam Kumar Reddy from Assembly following his election to Lok Sabha from Nalgonda.

The TRS has never won the seat since it was created in 2009 during the delimitation of constituencies. Uttam Kumar Reddy of Congress won all three elections (2009, 2014 and 2018).

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which has fielded Kota Rama Rao, is looking to increase its vote share while the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), which is battling to maintain a toehold in Telangana politics, has fielded Chava Kiranmayi.

Saidi Reddy, who had lost to Uttam Kumar Reddy 7,466 votes in 2018, cast his vote at Gundlapalli village.

Police confined Uttam Kumar Reddy to his house in Huzurnagar, following a complaint by to the election authorities by the TRS. The ruling party said since the state Congress chief is a non-local, he should leave the constituency. Uttam Kumar Reddy, however, argued that he is a local as he has his house in the town.

Tension prevailed at Uttam Kumar Reddy’s house Sunday night when officials reached there. However, District Collector and returning officer Amoy Kumar later clarified that the Congress leader can remain in the constituency as Huzurnagar is one of the Assembly segments in his Nalgonda constituency but he will not be allowed to come out of his house.

Authorities had made elaborate arrangements for the peaceful and smooth conduct of the by-poll. The Election Commission deployed nearly 1,500 security personnel and deployed 965 Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs).

Close contest on cards in Huzurnagar Bypoll

0

Only two days are left for the Huzurnagar by-election polling, which will be held on October 21. The results will be announced on October 24. Rival parties stepped up electioneering as the campaign comes to an end today evening. It’s a keen contest between the TRS and the Congress party. The CPI withdrew support to TRS at the last minute. This has reduced TRS chances to some extent.

Meanwhile, BJP leaders are making a strong bid to leave their mark in the Assembly segment. BJP MLA Raja Singh toured extensively and he promised to rename Huzurnagar as Poncherla in tune with the local sentiment. The BJP is promising to change the names of villages that were there since the Nizam’s times. The TDP is also contesting separately.

The multi-cornered contest is making the poll result very tough to guess. Analysts say that whoever it is, the winner will get just around a thousand votes majority this time. There is also curiosity what impact the RTC strike will have on the TRS votes.
