TRS candidate files nomination for Huzurabad on first day

1

Two nominations were filed on Friday, the first day for filing of nominations for the by-election to the Huzurabad Assembly constituency in Telangana.

With the Election Commission of India issuing a notification, the poll process has begun for the October 30 by-election.

Ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) candidate Gellu Srinivas Yadav filed his nomination on the first day. He filed two nomination sets. Mohd Mansoor Ali of Anna YSR Party also filed his nomination on Friday.

As per the schedule announced by the EC, the last date for filing of nominations is October 8.

Scrutiny of nominations will be taken up on October 11. The last date for withdrawal of nominations is October 13. Polling will be held on October 30 while counting of votes will be taken up on November 2. The entire poll process has to be completed by November 5.

Meanwhile, TRS submitted a list of 20 star campaigners to the Election Commission. The list includes Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, ministers K. T. Rama Rao, Harish Rao, Gangula Kamalakar and Koppula Eshwar.

The Huzurabad Assembly seat fell vacant with the resignation of former minister Eatala Rajender after he was dropped from the state Cabinet by Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao in May following allegations of land encroachment.

Rajender also quit the TRS to join the BJP and will be entering the fray as the saffron party’s candidate.

TRS named its student wing chief Srinivas Yadav as the party candidate for the by-election. The Congress party is yet to announce its candidate.

The by-election raised the political temperature in the state as Rajender targetted the Chief Minister by alleging that he was insulted in the party. The BJP is citing Rajender’s alleged humiliation to mount fresh attack on TRS for what it calls the family rule of Chandrasekhar Rao.

After ending his nearly two-decade-long association with TRS, Rajender launched an aggressive campaign in Huzurabad targeting the TRS government.

BJP’s state unit chief Bandi Sanjay is also currently undertaking a ‘padyatra’ which will cover the Huzurabad constituency as well.

The TRS government also picked the constituency for implementing its prestigious ‘Dalit Bandhu’ scheme on pilot basis. It has already sanctioned Rs 2,000 crore to implement the scheme under which every Dalit family will be given a grant of Rs 10 lakh to start business of its choice.

The government’s move came under criticism from the opposition parties and some NGOs who alleged that the TRS is trying to lure the voters. A couple of NGOs also moved the Telangana High Court, but the latter refused to interfere in the matter.

TRS to use Assembly session for Huzurabad campaigning?

0

The Election Commission of India has issued poll schedule for the much-awaited Huzurabad Assembly bypoll on September 28.

The poll notification will be issued on October 1 (tomorrow) and the filing of nominations will also commence from October 1.

The monsoon session of Telangana Legislative Assembly is currently underway. The session began on September 24 after which it was adjourned for September 27.

However, due to heavy rains lashing across Telangana, the speaker Pocharam Srinivas Reddy adjourned the House to October 1. With this, the Assembly could meet for only two days on September 24 and 27 so far.

The Assembly will resume sitting again from October 1 (tomorrow).

The ruling TRS is planning to utilise Assembly session to the maximum possible extent to campaign for Huzurabad bypoll.

Chief Minister K.Chandrashekar Rao, ministers and TRS MLAs reportedly decided to speak on TRS government welfare schemes and development programmes every day in the House and send a message to Huzurabad voters indirectly to vote for TRS.

They want to take up debates on Aasara pensions, Rythu Bandhu, Rythu Bima, Dalit Bandhu, 24×7 free power to agriculture, 24×7 power to all sectors, residential schools etc besides Kaleshwaram project and other irrigation projects, roads, highways etc.

Since Assembly sessions get huge media coverage both in print and electronic media, the TRS wants to utilise this opportunity for Huzurabad campaigning.

Will non-Dalits vote for TRS in Huzurabad?

1

TRS president and Telangana Chief Minister K.Chandrashekar Rao has brought Dalit Bandhu scheme to extend Rs 10 lakh financial assistance to every Dalit family.

The fact that he chose Huzurabad Assembly constituency to launch Dalit Bandhu on August 17 on a pilot basis clearly shows his political agenda behind this scheme.

Huzurabad Assembly constituency is going for bypoll on October 30. This bypoll has turned into a battle between KCR and BJP’s Etela Rajender and KCR wants to win this election at any cost to teach a fitting lession to his friend-turned-foe Etela Rajender who raised a banner of revolt against him when he was in TRS which subsequently led to Etela’s ouster from KCR’s cabinet and TRS.

KCR released Rs 2,000 crore to cover all Dalit families in Huzurabad under Dalit Bandhu. With this, KCR tried to lure Dalit voters towards TRS, who are a majority in Huzurabad Assembly constituency. Already Rs 10 lakh each Dalit Bandhu amount was deposited in their bank accounts.

So far so good, but what about non-Dalit voters in Huzurabad? Will they vote for TRS when KCR gave Rs 10 lakh each only to Dalits.

Out of total 2.36 lakh voters in Huzurabad, non-Dalit voters are nearly 1.80 lakh.

These non-Dalit voters are reportedly angry at TRS for not giving them any financial assistance in the wake of Huzurabad bypoll while giving Rs 10 lakh each to Dalits.

Non-Dalits say that if not Rs 10 lakh, they should at least get Rs 1 lakh each in the name of any scheme in Huzurabad and question why non-Dalits should vote for TRS which has concern towards only Dalits.

TRS used “Speaker” for Huzurabad campaign!

0

Speaker of a Legislative Assembly or Lok Sabha enjoys a unique position in Indian democracy and also in our Constitution.

Though Speakers get elected on a party ticket for Assembly or Lok Sabha, they should become impartial and apolitical once they are elected as Speakers.

But these days Speakers are crossing ‘laxman rekha’ and behaving like all other ruling party MLAs and ministers in the House and attacking Opposition parties.

Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly speaker Tammineni Sitaram is often landing in controversies with his open attack on opposition TDP leaders.

Telangana Legislative Assembly speaker Pocharam Srinivas Reddy to proved that he is no different.

Srinivas Reddy on Saturday (today) virtually campaigned for TRS in the upcoming bypoll in Huzurabad.

TRS bypoll incharge and minister Harish Rao invited Reddy to attend foundation laying programme for Reddy community hall in Huzurabad.

Srinivas Reddy forgetting that he is a speaker spoke like all other TRS leaders and praised KCR and his government schemes.

He went to say that he did not visit Huzurabad as ‘speaker’ but visited in his individual capacity as Srinivas Reddy. He even attacked opposition parties for abusing KCR.

Harish invited Pocharam to lure Reddy voters in Huzurabad, who comprise a significant number.

Will higher LPG, fuel prices ensure victory for TRS in Huzurabad?

0

The TRS leadership seems to have changed its strategy on the upcoming Huzurabad Assembly bypoll.

The TRS has been seeking votes in the name of its welfare schemes like Dalit Bandhu, Rythu Bandhu, Rhthu Bima, Aasara pensions, Kalyana Laxmi, Shaadi Mubarak etc all these days.

Finance minister T.Harish Rao who was camped in Huzurabad since August has been seeking votes from people by talking about TRS schemes in all the meetings.

But of late, Harish and other TRS leaders are not talking much about welfare schemes.

They are talking about increasing domestic LPG cylinder prices and petrol/diesel prices under BJP-led NDA government at the Centre.

The sudden change in strategy is reportedly because of TRS failing to get the desired response from voters when they talk about welfare schemes as they all got old and there is nothing new in TRS schemes.

Moreover, due to fund crunch, the TRS government is not able to deliver its schemes effectively these days.

To overcome this, TRS is now talking about increasing LPG, petrol, diesel prices to target BJP and invoke anger among people against BJP.

TRS is aggressively campaigning that BJP made the life of common people a hell by increasing the prices of those items which are in daily use and which no one can avoid. TRS is telling voters that if they elect BJP’s Etela Rajender in Huzurabad, it will give an endorsement for BJP government in Delhi to increase these prices further.

Whether this strategy works out for TRS remains to be seen.

Telangana Congress seniors burst out against Manickam Tagore

1

The Congress Party’s August 30 meet to finanalise its candidate for Huzurabad bypolls has ended inconclusively. The party’s core team which met at the Gandhi Bhavan has decided to consult three key leaders from North Telangana – former ministers T Jeevan Reddy, D Sridhar Babu and former MP Ponnam Prabhakar – before finalising the party candidate.

The meeting held at Gandhi Bhavan was a stormy one. Several senior leaders, who attended the meet, flew into rage over the way the party affairs were being handled. They said that the party affairs should be conducted in a dignified manner and said that the way Manickam Tagore was running the party affairs was despicable. This was the first time that an open rebellion against Manickam Tagore was visible.

Manickam’s role in picking Revanth Reddy for the TPCC chief’s post is no secret and many seniors felt that he was bulldozing his way instead of achieving a consensus. Several seniors are still sullen and angry. They are keeping away from the day to day party affairs. Many are yet to join the SC Self-Respect Meets that PCC chief Revanth Reddy is planning. Some have even held separate meets in their constituencies and have not even bothered to invite Revanth Reddy.

The meeting was mainly organised to decide on the candidature of Revanth supporter and former minister Konda Surekha for Huzurabad. Key leaders from North Telangana such as Jeevan Reddy, Sridhar Babu and Ponnam Prabhakar have skipped the meet. Hence the leaders have decided to take their opinion before deciding on the candidate for Huzurabad. So, as of now the candidature of Surekha still hangs in the balance.

Another Rs 500 cr released for ‘Dalit Bandhu’ scheme in Huzurabad

0

The Telangana government on Thursday released another Rs 500 crore for implementation of Dalit Bandhu scheme, on a pilot basis, in Huzurabad Assembly constituency.

On the orders of Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, the State SC Corporation released the money to the account of Karimnagar District Collector.

With this, Rs 2,000 crore target for implementation of the Dalit Bandhu scheme, as a pilot project, in Huzurabad has been achieved.

The Corporation released Rs 1,500 crore since August 23 while Rs 500 crore was made available on August 6.

The target of Rs 2,000 crore was announced by the chief minister while addressing a public meeting in the constituency.

Officials said that the government machinery has made all arrangements at the field level to take up the project. With the Rs 2,000 crore released as per orders of the CM, implementation of the Dalit Bandhu scheme will now begin on a war footing in accordance with the guidelines.

Under ‘Dalit Bandhu’, a brainchild of the Chief Minister, every beneficiary Dalit family will get Rs 10 lakh as grant and they will be free to chose their profession, self-employment or businesses for utilising the funds.

Addressing a public meeting on August 16 at Shalapaly in Huzurabad constituency to launch the scheme, the Chief Minister had announced that the government will disburse over Rs 2,000 crore to 21,000 Dalit families in Huzurabad in next two months.

He said there will be no selection of beneficiaries in Huzurabad Assembly segment, as the scheme will be implemented for all the Scheduled Caste (SC) families in a saturation mode.

Earlier, on August 5 the the government had released Rs 7.60 crore to extend the financial assistance to 76 Dalit families in Vasalamarri, a village adopted by the Chief Minister in Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district.

While addressing the public meeting in Huzurabad, he declared that the all the 17 lakh Dalit families will be benefited from the scheme.

The population of Dalits in the state is 75 lakh population.

KCR, as Rao is popularly known, said that if Dalit Bandhu is implemented for all 17 lakh SC families in the state, it will cost Rs 1.7 lakh crore. He said the government will allocate Rs 30,000 crore to Rs 40,000 crore in the budget every year for 3 to 4 years.

He said to start with poorest of the poor among the SC families will receive the financial assistance.

However, the launch of the pilot from Huzurabad constituency has come under criticism from the opposition parties and some NGOs, who alleged that the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) is trying to lure Dalit voters.

Huzurabad seat fell vacant following resignation of former minister Eatala Rajender after he was dropped from Cabinet by KCR.

Rajender joined the BJP and is preparing to contest the bypoll as the saffron party candidate.

Both the Congress and the BJP alleged that the launch of Dalit Bandhu from Huzurabad shows the “desperation” of the ruling party.

Rampant phone tapping allegations in Huzurabad

0

A phone call is what is keeping the TRS leaders in Huzurabad terrified. The TRS leaders at the ground level in Huzurabad, which will soon witness a bye-election, are sweating when they receive a phone call. They are not interested in making phone calls either. Except personal calls, all official or organizational calls are making them shiver in fear.

The reason? Hackers!! They are worried that their phones are being tapped and the conversations are being recorded. In Huzurabad, several TRS leaders still maintain contact with Eatala Rajender and are in the habit of informing inside information about the party strategies. The TRS ministers are talking to them the very next day and are asking pointed questions about what they told Eatala. In some cases, their conversations were being played out. The TRS leaders were said to be shocked beyond belief at hearing their own conversations being played out.

Sources say that the politicians in Huzurabad, especially those in the TRS, are preferring not to take any calls. They are preferring one-to-one meetings or are talking through intermediaries who are not suspect. The TRS reportedly is tracking the phone conversations of at least 1000 TRS leaders at the ground level in Huzurabad. Some leaders are speaking via whatsapp groups which are difficult to track .

It is not clear as to how the BJP and Congress leaders are coping with the situation. Sources reveal that some BJP leaders too are being tracked. Hence the BJP is said to have developed a system of couriers to pass on information among the party workers so that the telephone conversations are not tapped.

Konda Surekha almost finalised as Cong Huzurabad candidate

1

Firebrand leader Konda Surekha is most likely to be the Congress candidate for the upcoming Huzurabad by poll.

TPCC chief A.Revanth Reddy reportedly finalized her candidature and submitted to AICC Telangana affairs in charge Manickham Tagore today (Saturday).

Tagore is expected to meet Congress president Sonia Gandhi in a day or two and seek her approval.

An official announcement in this regard is expected in a day or two.

Tagore and Revanth reportedly okayed Surekha’s candidature after considering various factors.

She is a strong and senior leader from BC community and also a woman.

With TRS and BJP fielding BC candidates Gellu Srinivas Yadav and Etela Rajender, the Congress too wants to field a BC who can match the seniority and stature of Etela.

Although Surekha is learnt to be reluctant to fight by poll in neighbouring Karimnagar district while her political base is in Warangal district, she reportedly agreed on the request of Revanth Reddy.

Revanth feels that only Surekha can give a tough fight in Huzurabad which was never a stronghold for Congress for several decades and Congress did not win this seat for decades.

“Giver & Achiever” campaign puts TRS in a fix in Huzurabad!

0

TRS chief and Telangana Chief Minister K.Chandrashekar Rao launched Dalit Bandhu scheme in Huzurabad on August 16 to extend Rs 10 lakh financial assistance to over 20,000 Dalit families in the constituency.

Although KCR and other TRS party leaders claim that KCR launched Dalit Bandhu in line with his ‘sentiment’ of launching Rythu Bandhu in Huzurabad in May 2018, which became a huge success and ensured second term in power for TRS in December 2018 Assembly polls, no one believes this sentiment theory completely.

Everyone feels that KCR launched Dalit Bandhu all of a sudden in Huzurabd only to defeat his friend-turned-foe Etela Rajender in the upcoming Assembly bypoll, who quit TRS to join BJP.

But Etela’s supporters have taken up a new campaign called “Giver and Achiever” in Huzurabad which is making TRS leaders and cadre worried.

Etela’s supporters are telling voters that while KCR was giver of Dalit Bandhu, it’s Etela who have achieved it by quitting TRS and MLA post and bringing bypoll. They are telling voters that Etela is achiever of Dalit Bandhu.

Etela’s camp is telling voters that history only recognises achievers and not givers.

Though Congress campaigned during 2014 and 2018 Assembly polls that it’s the ‘giver’ of Telangana State, people voted for TRS saying KCR is ‘achiever’ of Telangana.

They are now seeking votes based on this theory and urging voters to vote for ‘achiever’ Etela and not ‘giver’ KCR.

TRS leaders and cadre too are not in a position to counter this ‘giver and achiever’ campaign because they themselves seek votes in all elections saying ‘achievers’ of Telangana should be elected to power and not ‘givers’ like Congress.

Etala angry at BJP for delay in Huzurabad poll notification!

0

Former TRS senior leader and former minister Etela Rajender joined BJP in June to wage a battle against TRS chief and Telangana Chief Minister K.Chandrashekar Rao though the BJP’s ideology and style of functioning do not suit him.

Etela Rajender hoped that BJP will shield him from KCR’s excesses against him and will help him to keep KCR under control.

Etela also hoped that BJP high command will ensure early bypoll for Huzurabad Assembly constituency and will not give time for KCR to make TRS stronger in Huzurabad.

But all his hopes were dashed after BJP high command is not cooperating with him to defeat TRS in Huzurabad and not taking any steps to ensure early poll notification for Huzurabad.

KCR is completely exploiting this delay in issuing poll notification to his advantage and making TRS stronger in Huzurabad day after day by luring all Etela’s supporters to his side with money and nominated posts and also luring Huzurabad voters by spending thousands of crores of rupees on welfare schemes like Dalit Bandhu and other development programmes.

Though Etela is quite rich, no one can compete with a ruling party in spending as it has the opportunity to spend thousands of crores of public money in the name of welfare schemes and development programmes.

It is rumoured that Etela already lost huge amount of money during the past two months of campaigning since he joined BJP in June second week and if the bypoll is further delayed his funds will completely evaporate and he will be left with no money to spend during election.

Against this backdrop, Etela is said to be openly expressing his ire at BJP high command for not cooperating with him in defeating KCR arguing that delay in bypoll will only help KCR to win Huzurabad seat easily.

Dalit Bandhu creates tension at Huzurabad, TRS worried!

1

Tension has been prevailing at Huzurabad Assembly constituency ahead of Dalit Bandhu scheme launch by Telangana Chief Minister K.Chandrashekar Rao on August 16.

Finance minister Harish Rao and Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar rushed to Huzurabad by helicopter today (Saturday) to set right the things in Huzabad ahead of CM’s programmes on August 16.

Dalits in Huzurabad constituency blocked all the roads on Saturday against the selection of ‘ineligible’ dalits for Dalit Bandhu scheme.

Officials selected 40 Dalit beneficiaries to whom KCR will handover Rs 10 lakh Dalit Bandhu amount cheque on August 16 to mark the launch of Dalit Bandhu scheme in Huzurabad constituency.

Dalits are angry that while 470 dalits submitted applications, only 40 were selected. Dalits alleged that these 40 were ineligible as few of them are working as government employees while few are non-locals.

Dalits alleged that only TRS activists and supporters were selected for Dalit Bandhu. They demanded cancellation of selection list and select genuine beneficiaries.

As the situation went out of control, Harish sprung into action along with CS to review the selection list to pacify Dalits.

Dalits are holding rallies in Huzurabad constituency against selection of ineligible beneficiaries for Dalit Bandhu scheme.

TRS leaders and cadre are worried over this development saying that they expected entire Dalits to support TRS due to Dalit Bandhu scheme but the party is now facing the wrath of Dalits because of Dalit Bandhu scheme.

2 Reddys to be out to make way for 1 Dalit?

1

Huzurabad is fast turning out to be a bonanza for TRS Dalit politicians. With the bypolls round the corner, the TRS government is showering sops galore on Huzurabad. From roads to anganwadi bhavans, repair works are being taken up at a frenetic pace. Pensions are being given on time and newer names are being added to the list of beneficiaries.

KCR’s biggest yet bonanza for the Dalits is in the form of the ambitious Dalit Bandhu. Though the scheme is not implemented in Huzurabad, it has already been launched in Vasalamarri. Now the latest buzz is that KCR might induct Dalits, mainly numerically significant Madigas, into the cabinet to win over the community. Already Banda Srinivas has been made the chairperson of the SC corporation.

Sources reveal that KCR may even induct some Dalits into his cabinet. Since, Madigas are in large numbers in Telangana, he might include some of them into his council of ministers. It is also being said that one of them could be made the deputy chief minister. The names of former deputy CM Kadiyam Srihari and Khammam’s Sandra Venkata Veeraiah are doing rounds. Even Chennur MLA Balka Suman is being propped up. But, he is from the Mala community. All these are from the north Telangana, where Huzurabad is also located.

From the south Telangana, the name of Guvvala Balaraju is also being propped up. While this is all okay, there are rumours that KCR might drop a couple of ministers to accommodate the ministers from the SC community. The names being heard are those of Ministers Malla Reddy of Medchal-Malkajgiri and Jagadeesh Reddy of Suryapet. Let’s wait and see how things unfold ahead of Huzurabad bypolls.

KCR releases Rs 500cr Dalit Bandhu to Huzurabad

Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao on Monday (today) issued orders releasing Rs 500 crore to implement Dalit Bandhu scheme in Huzurabad.

Huzurabad is going for bypoll soon and the Election Commission is expected to issue bypoll notification soon.

The TRS is waging a ‘do-or-die battle’ against Etela Rajender, who quit TRS and joined BJP after KCR sacked him from his cabinet in May this year.

KCR wants to win this bypoll at any cost to gain upper hand on Etela Rajender and silence dissidents in his party.

Against this backdrop, KCR announced to implement Dalit Bandhu scheme to extend Rs 10 lakh to each Dalit family and the scheme will be launched in Huzurabad on August 16.

Dalits are a majority in Huzurabad constituency with over 40,000 voters.

KCR announced to launch Dalit Bandhu in Huzurabad as a pilot programme and extend it to entire state later.

However, the CM launched Dalit Bandhu all of a sudden on August 4 in his adopted village Vasalamarri in Bhongir district by releasing Rs 10 lakh each to 76 Dalit families at a cost of Rs 7.60 crore.

2200 candidates,, 22000 proposers in Huzurabad bypoll?

0

If sources are to be believed, as many as 2200 persons are likely to file their nominations for the Huzurabad bypoll. Sources say that several groups have decided to put up many candidates. This en masse filing of nominations is likely to force a paper ballot instead of an EVM ballot. Already associations belonging to Arya Vysyas, MPTCs, field assistants, weaver community, mid Maneru project oustees and private lecturers are planning to file nominations.

According to election commission rules, each candidate has to propose only one candidate. A person cannot propose two candidates. Every candidate needs 10 proposers, who should belong to the constituency where elections are held. At this rate, the 2200 candidates will have to find 22000 proposers. This means, out of the 2.26 lakh voters in Huzurabad, as many as 22000 would be proposers. This will create a unique situation in Huzurabad.

Sources say that if indeed 2200 candidates are in the fray, then the election commission may have to opt for ballot papers instead of an EVM. Surfeit of candidates with confusing election symbols might leave the voters, especially the rural illiterates completely confounded. There could be many invalid votes, election analysts fear. They feel that this kind of en masse nominations could pose many problems.

The Eatala Rajender camp feels that these mass nominations are a ploy of the ruling TRS to confuse the voters and divide anti-TRS votes. This might affect the ultimate outcome of the elections, the Eatala camp fears.

Etela in wheel-chair more dangerous, feels TRS

Huzurabad politics have taken an interesting turn now. With Etela hospitalised and needing a knee surgery, his campaign would be in a wheel-chair. The TRS feels that Etela in wheel-chair is more dangerous. He already has a lot of sympathy among the people of Huzurabad and his campaign in a wheel-chair could evoke more sympathy, TRS leaders feel.

Meanwhile, internal survey reports showed that despite all the high decibel campaign against him in Huzurabad, Eatala still enjoys a significant edge among the voters. The surveys have also shown that the virulent campaign by the TRS leaders is actually proving counterproductive. As a result, the TRS ministers and leaders like Gangula Kamalakar, Koppula Eswar, Errabelli Dayakar, Challa Dharma Reddy, Satish Babu and Sunke Ravi Kumar have slowed down their criticism of Etela. Reports say that the comments of Gangula and Errabelli, both turncoat politicians who joined the TRS from the TDP, are being ridiculed by the people. Even Etela’s long time friend Harish Rao is wary of campaigning against him in Huzurabad. Harish Rao has not visited the constituency in several days.

Meanwhile, Etela has been admitted into a corporate hospital in Hyderabad. The doctors suggested that he undergo a surgery on his knee. They suggested that he take a rest for at least 10 days. After that, he would campaign on a wheel-chair. Sources say that Etela has confirmed input that there would be no bypoll in September. Hence he has decided to undergo the much-needed surgery to his knee. Meanwhile, his wife is conducting the outreach in the constituency.

KCR is likely to visit Huzurabad on August 16 to launch the ambitious Dalit Bandhu programme. Huzurabad has been chosen in view of the upcoming bypoll in the constituency. The bypoll has been necessitated by the resignation of Eatala Rajender from the assembly and the TRS.

KCR to end Huzurabad candidate suspense on Dalit Bandhu launch date

1

The ruling TRS is spending thousands of crores of rupees in Huzurabad Assembly constituency to defeat BJP’s Etela Rajender in upcoming bypoll in the name of launching development works and new schemes like Dalit Bandhu to give Rs 10 lakh each to over 20,000 Dalit families in constituency.

But TRS has not given a clarity on who will be its candidate to be pitted against Etela.

TRS sources say KCR will end this suspense on August 16 when he will visit Huzurabad to launch Dalit Bandhu.

This will be KCR’s first visit to Huzurabad after he sacked Etela from cabinet in May which led Etela to quit TRS and MLA post in June forcing bypoll.

Though KCR took Kaushik Reddy from Congress and TTDP chief Ramana into TRS triggering speculations that one of them will be fielded in Huzurabad, TRS sources now ruled out that possibility.

Kaushkik Reddy was already nominated as MLC.

TRS sources say KCR is not in favour of Ramana either.

With this all eyes are now on TRS student wing leader Gellu Srinivas Yadav, who is speculated to get ticket.

Etela Rajender suffers high fever, takes a break from Padayatra

1

Is Etela Rajender giving a break to his padayatras in Huzurabad assembly constituency? Sources said that his health condition has deteriorated due to continuous padayatras in the constituency. He is said to be suffering from high fever and leg pains. The doctors reportedly advised him to take a break from the hectic and intense padayatra for some days.

Etela, who is now on a Praja Deevena Padayatra, has become very weak. Doctors examined him at Kondapaka village in Veenavanka mandal of the Huzurabad constituency. They found that he was having high temperature due to continuously walking during the rains and hot son. Inclement weather has taken their toll on him. Relentless walking also has caused severe leg pains. The ankle is also strained. The doctors advised him immediate rest for some time.

BjP sources said that Etela’s wife Jamuna Reddy will continue with the padayatra while Etela is under rest. Once the health condition improves, Etela might rejoin the yatra, they said. Sources said that arrangements are being made for Jamuna’s Padayatra in various villages of Huzurabad constituency.

It may be recalled that Etela Rajender has resigned from the assembly due to what he called the insult caused by TRS boss KCR. Since his resignation, Etela has launched a padayatra in his constituency to reach out to his voters and supporters. The ruling TRS too has taken it as a prestige issue and has been doing everything it can in Huzurabad. Several ministers, MLAs are already camping in Huzurabad. The prestigious Dalit Bandhu too is being launched from Huzurabad only.

Modi’s dilemma: Huzurabad or Bhabanipur?

1

When asked to choose between helping Eatala or hitting Mamta Banerjee, what will Prime Minister Narendra Modi choose? This, those in the know say, will determine the date of Huzurabad bypoll. They say that there is a link between Bhabanipur and Huzurabad.

Mamta Banerjee faces a tricky situation. Her party has won a thumping victory in West Bengal, but she herself stood defeated from Nandigram. So, she is now seeking byelection from Bhabanipur assembly constituency. The MLA from Bhabanipur has already resigned to make way for Mamta Banerjee. But, she has to get elected before October7. For this, the notification has to be issued by Mid August. If the notification is issued late, she would not be in a position to continue as the CM. She may have to resign for a day and get reelected or may have to appoint someone else as CM. Both ways, Mamta would be in deep trouble.

The Election Commission, which has been chided by the courts for holding elections during Covid pandemic, will now be very cagey about announcing the dates. If the Central government gives an adverse report, the bypolls could be delayed.

But this is bad news for Eatala Rajender, who is eagerly awaiting the bypolls. As of now, he is enjoying an advantage in Huzurabad. But, as the days pass by and as various schemes get implemented, the TRS may gain an upper hand. That would be bad news for Eatala. So, the question is what will the Centre do now?
