Police beef up security at Hyderabad’s Gandhi Hospital

0

A posse of policemen in protective gear was deployed at government-run Gandhi Hospital here, where a majority of coronavirus patients are undergoing treatment, a day after an attack on doctors.

Two Covid-19 patients had attacked doctors on duty after the death of their relative who too was under treatment for the virus in the same ward on Wednesday.

The policemen deployed at the hospital could not enter the isolation ward earlier as they lacked personal protective gear like masks and suits.

The attack had sparked protest by doctors and paramedics who demanded protection. Hyderabad Police Commissioner Anjani Kumar visited the hospital to assure the doctors about security.

“Proud policemen deployed at Gandhi hospital for safety of doctors,” tweeted Anjani Kumar along with a picture of the policemen wearing masks and protective gear.

Meanwhile, the director of Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Adilabad has written to Superintendent of Police and District Collector to provide extra security for doctors and other hospital staff.

Due to alleged non-cooperative attitude of six men undergoing treatment, the hospital authorities fear an attack on doctors.

All six had attended Tablighi Jamaat meet in Delhi last month. At least 40 others who attended the meet from Adilabad have been kept at other quarantine facilities.

HiTech city areas under red zone lockdown: Corona effect

0

The IT industry in Hyderabad is badly shaken after the COVID-19 threat. Regular foreign visits by software professionals have come as a big risk now. In the past three to four weeks, lots of IT professionals went abroad and returned. Most of such returnees are still untraceable. Amid this, +ve cases are being reported in Hyderabad, mostly in Gachibowli, Chandanagar, Kokapet and other places. This has put the KCR government on high alert. It classified the areas as red zones where infected persons are residing. Far higher restrictions are imposed to fight coronavirus disease here.

The general restrictions will be in force as part of Modi’s 21-day lockdown. In addition, the government is not allowing residents in red zone areas to come out of their homes even for buying groceries and vegetables. Everything will be supplied to their doorsteps. The officials have made workers available. Entry and exit is banned for both residents and their visitors. The streets are closed with the police keeping guard there.

Protests in parts of Hyderabad over Delhi riots

0

Parts of Hyderabad on Friday witnessed protests against the Delhi Police for its alleged complicity in the violence in the national capital.

People staged the protests after Friday prayers, raising slogans against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and the Delhi Police.

Youth coming out of the historic Mecca Masjid shouted slogans. The sloganeering sent the police into a tizzy briefly but the protestors peacefully dispersed. They were raising slogans like ‘Delhi Police down down’, ‘Modi teri tana shahi nahi chalegi’ and ‘Awaz do hum ek hain’.

Police had made massive security arrangements at the mosque and nearby historic Charminar to prevent any untoward incident. Large number of policemen and personnel from Rapid Action Force (RAF) were deployed in the communally sensitive old city in view of the possible protests against Delhi violence.

A similar protest was held outside Masjid Ujale-e-Shah in Saeedabad after Friday prayers. The protestors carrying placards and raising slogans tried to take out a rally but were stopped by the police. The protestors condemned the role of Delhi Police in the riots and demanded justice to the victims.

Earlier, dozens of Muslim women offered special prayers ‘Qunoot-e-Nazila’ at Eidgah Ujale Shah. They made special supplication in view of the current situation in the country, especially in riot-hit parts of Delhi.

Meanwhile, protests continued at Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) for a fourth consecutive day. Students took out a rally on the campus to condemn violence in Delhi.

MANUU Students Union President Uamar Farooq Quadri told IANS that they were continuing the protest, demanding action against the police personnel involved in targeting the Muslim community.

The protestors also demanded resignation of Home Minister Amit Shah. They also demanded that that Delhi BJP leader Kapil Mishra should be booked for sedition.

Flash protests in Hyderabad against Delhi violence

0

Flash protests were held at few places here on Tuesday night, condemning the violence in Delhi and the alleged complicity of Delhi Police.

Candle-light protests were held at Toli Chowki, Seven Tombs Road, King Koti and Yakutpura.

Protestors including women raised slogans against Delhi Police, condemning their brutality. They were also carrying placards demanding withdrawal of the CAA, NPR and NRC.

However, police foiled a candle-light march on Neklace Road abutting Hussain Sagar lake in the heart of the city.

Some activists had called for the march to condemn Delhi Police’s brutality and right-wing violence. Large number of policemen were deployed in the area and the road was deserted even before 9 p.m.

Meanwhile, Hyderabad Police Commissioner Anjani Kumar had appealed to citizens to remain alert and united to see that no mischief maker tries to take advantage of the disturbing news from Delhi. “Our Patrol cars and Bike patrols are your closest friend. Don’t allow rumor mongering. Take pride in our beautiful city Hyderabad,” he said.

He also urged the national media not to show the disturbing visuals of Delhi riots. “It disturbs the mind of common peace loving people. These are testing times for all of us and we all have to work together and ensure that mischief makers do not take advantage,” he said.

High Court notice to Govt on Swaroopananda land

0

The Telangana High Court issued notices to the Chandrasekhara Rao government for giving 2 acres prime land to Vizag Swamiji Swaroopananda at Kokapet near Hyderabad. The Swamiji paid just Re 1 per acre of this very costly land. Now, this has got into litigation. A person named Veerachari petitioned the High Court to cancel the land allotment saying that it was unconstitutional and against norms. Any government land should be given only in public interest matters like creation of employment or for old age people or for those who have track record in rendering public service.

But there is no provision as per government guidelines to allot land for setting up an ashram. The High Court admitted Veerachari petition. It has given notices to the KCR government to give its clarification. In recent times, the court has nullified many orders of the KCR Regime. With this, there are also doubts whether Swaroopananda land order will also meet the same fate. From the beginning, this land allotment has become controversially in Telugu states.

Meanwhile, Swaroopananda is also trying for land in Amaravati area for which he is lobbying hard with YCP leaders. The Swamiji was known for his unabashed statements in support of Jagan and KCR while making controversial remarks against their political opponents. He did yagnams for Jagan and KCR victories.

Will BJP make Hyderabad a Union Territory?

0

The Modi-Shah duo are very serious about bringing the BJP to power in Telangana state in 2023 Jamili Election. This is crucial for gaining greater strength in entire south India in future. But CM KCR is standing like a big hurdle to their plans. BJP leaders are finding it difficult to polarise Hindu voters completely because of TRS. What then are BJP plans to somehow get a foothold?

Rumours are circulating that Modi is going to use the same ‘divide and rule’ logic that KCR used. If Hyderabad is separated from Telangana, it will finish two birds at one shot. The MIM will lose its hold if Hyderabad is declared as a union territory under direct control of the Union, just like Ladakh. The TRS control over the highest revenue earning Capital City will also be lost. Moreover, it will boost BJP image among lakhs of Andhra settlers there.

Amid these rumours, Ex MP Chinta Mohan shared his top secret news from Delhi political corridors. He said that after the coming Maharashtra election, the Centre is going to declare Hyderabad as a Union Territory without Assembly. Is BJP thus going to control Hyderabad and also gain power in residual Telangana state?

No plan to make Hyderabad second capital: Minister

0

Union Minister of State for Home G. Kishan Reddy on Wednesday said there is no proposal by the Centre to make Hyderabad the second capital of the country.

He dismissed the reports in a section of media, saying the Centre mooted no such proposal. “Neither was any proposal made nor was the issue discussed,” he told reporters here.

The minister found fault with some television channels conducting debates on the issue. He remarked that the government does not take decisions on social media.

When asked about the reported move to shift Andhra Pradesh capital from Amaravati to some other place, Kishan Reddy said the Centre had nothing to do with the issue. “The issue comes under the purview of the state government,” he said.

On Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) leader K.T. Rama Rao’s comment that BJP has no presence in Telangana, Kishan Reddy wondered how K. Kavitha lost the elections in Nizamabad.

Rama Rao’s sister Kavitha suffered poll defeat in Nizamabad Lok Sabha constituency to the BJP.

The BJP leader also took exception to Rama Rao’s comment about BJP working president J.P. Nadda. “He is saying he doesn’t know who Nadda is, then why did he meet him several times in Delhi?” the minister asked.

Kishan Reddy said instead of making such comment, Rama Rao should respond to the issues raised by Nadda like family rule in Telangana, lack of jobs and the promise to make Dalit a chief minister.

Rama Rao had made the remark while reacting to the allegations made by Nadda against TRS government at a public meeting in Hyderabad on Sunday.

TRS dismisses rumours on Hyderabad Union Territory status

0

A rumour is doing the rounds in Telugu states that the BJP is planning to make Hyderabad a Union Territory in order to eliminate the Telangana sentiment advantage to CM K Chandrasekhar Rao. The BJP also has plans to develop Hyderabad as a permanent second capital of India so that the party can strengthen itself in the Southern states. The rumour has triggered so much speculation that the TRS government was forced to give its clarification.

Minister Talasani Srinivasa Yadav dismissed the rumour as baseless and politically motivated. There’s no such proposal in front of the Union government. Interestingly, Talasani said that their party MPs extended full support to the BJP govt at the Centre on the passage of Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization Bill in the Parliament.

Analysts say that the Hyderabad public is discussing widely on Union Territory status just because their city has emerged as the fastest growing city in South India in the last two years thanks to booming IT industry. Moreover, Rashtrapati Nilayam is located in Bolarum in Hyderabad where the President visits and stays at least once a year. It has all the facilities for the President to conduct his official business.

Hyderabad sees 47% rise in new residential units in HI: Report

0

The city has seen a 47 per cent rise in the launch of new residential units in the first half (H1) of 2019 at 5,430 units as against 3,706 units in the corresponding period last year, according to the 11th edition of Knight Frank India’s flagship half-yearly report – India Real Estate.

A press release from the global property consultancy, the report presents a comprehensive analysis of the residential and office market performance across eight cities for the period January June 2019.

Both in terms of new office space completions and transactions, H1 2019 has been one of the best periods that the city has ever witnessed with 129 per cent increase in the number of new office space completions to 3.7 lakh sq m (39.7 lakh sq ft) from 1.6 lakh sq m (17.3 lakh sq ft) in H1 2018, the report said.

Sales peaked in H1 2019 in housing projects that neared completion. The demand fundamentals in the market continued to be strong which is reflected in a massive 67 per cent decline in unsold inventory, director (Hyderabad branch) of Knight Frank India Samson Arthur said

From the supply standpoint, while there was a YoY rise in new unit launches, there was a definite deficit, mostly due to backlog of statutory and regulatory clearances, he said.

Hyderabad’s growth hit roadblock under TRS: Rahul

0

Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday alleged that the development of Hyderabad hit a roadblock during the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS)rule.

Speaking at a road show of “People’s Front” in the city on Wednesday night, along with Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief N. Chandrababu Naidu, he said the pace at which the city should have developed in the last five years had not developed as the wealth of the entire state went into the hands of one family.

Gandhi came down heavily on Chief Minister and TRS President K. Chandrashekhar Rao.

He said Hyderabad had rapid growth and became famous across the world, thanks to the efforts of Naidu and Congress party.

He recalled that after the defeat of TDP in 2004 elections, he had acknowledged the role played by Naidu in the development of Hyderabad as an information technology hub.

Gandhi said Hyderabad was famous world over for the unity and brotherhood among its people. “The city doesn’t belong to people of one community or one region. Its doors are open for all. People live here in peace and harmony.”

The Congress chief said the harmony and brotherhood among people was facing threat from Prime Minister Narendra Modi as he was busy in dividing people and pitting one community against other and one state against other.

Naidu, who was Chief Minister of undivided Andhra Pradesh from 1995 to 2004, recalled his association with Hyderabad. He said even TRS chief K. Chandrashekhar Rao and his son and daughter admitted that the credit for building Hyderabad as IT hub goes to him. He wondered why they had now turned against him.

The TDP chief pointed out how he worked to build Hyderabad as the IT destination by bringing Microsoft and other global players to the city and developed the infrastructure.

Telangana Jana Samithi (TJS) leader M. Kodandaram and leaders of the Communist Party of India (CPI) also addressed the road show.

The Congress, which is leading the four-party People’s Front, is contesting 94 seats in 119-member Assembly. TDP has fielded candidates in 13 constituencies. The TJS and the CPI are contesting the remaining seats.

ED raids TDP MP’s residence, offices in Hyderabad

0

Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials on Saturday conducted searches at the residence and offices of former Union Minister and TDP MP Y.S. Chowdary here for alleged financial irregularities.

The searches, which began late Friday, continued on Saturday. The officials checked the records, computers and laptops at the offices of the Sujana Group owned by Chowdary.

The officials conducted simultaneous searches at the offices of Splendid Metal Products Ltd and Sujana Universal Industries and also the head office and residence of Chowdary.

The searches, the second in less than a month, were in connection with a case booked by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) against Best & Crompton Engineering Project Limited, a company owned by Srinivas Kalyan Rao, son of former CBI Director Vijaya Rama Rao.

Kalyan Rao was accused of cheating nationalised banks to the tune of Rs 304 crore and diverting funds to shell companies.

The ED began the probe into allegations that the shell companies had links with firms owned by Chowdary.

Agency officials had also conducted searches at Chowdary’s residence and offices last month.

Chowdary, a member of the Rajya Sabha, is a close aide of Telugu Desam Party (TDP) President and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu.

Chowdary was Minister of Science and Technology in the Narendra Modi Cabinet till March when the TDP pulled out of the BJP-led NDA.

Saturday’s raids come just days after the Andhra Pradesh government withdrew the “general consent” it had earlier given to the CBI to operate within its territory.

The CBI now requires the permission of the Andhra Pradesh government to conduct raids in the state.

The move had come following a series of raids by the Income Tax authorities against TDP leaders including Naidu’s close aide and MP C.M. Ramesh.

The party leaders alleged that the Modi government was misusing central agencies to target them.

Election effect: Biryani scarcity and dull Jewellery business in Hyderabad

0

Hyderabad is very famous for Biryani. Many celebrities and politicians, whenever they visit Hyderabad, they make it sure to have Biryani. Most of the hotels serve Biryani until late night. Except at some very odd times of the day, mostly we can get Biryani any time in the day. But suddenly it seems there is Biryani scarcity in Hyderabad for regular customers.

Reportedly, there is a Biryani shortage in the afternoon and in the night. As this is election season, election campaigning is in full swing. Most of the candidates, belonging to leading political parties as well as independent candidates are mobilizing crowds, doing rallies and campaigning rigorously along with huge crowds. And these crowds come at a ‘cost’. The minimum thing they expect is food i.e. lunch and dinner to be provided by the leaders. So, Biryanies are selling fast in this election season. Normal people are surprised to hear Biryani is not available in their favorite Biryani spots and when asked hotel management saying them that, because of election season, Biryanis are selling so fast.

On the other hand, Jewellery shop owners are waiting for the election season to over as their business is dull. Because of the elections, there are police checkings at many places and if they find unaccounted money and money without proper receipts, they are seizing it until the receipts or proofs are provided. Fearing this, people are not carrying huge amounts of money and they are even scared to visit Jewellery shops with cash. Even though not having proper ‘Muhurtams’ etc are other reasons for dull business, Jewellery shop managers are saying , the main reason is elections.

Indeed, elections are impacting lives of people in different ways.

Man hacked to death on Hyderabad road

0

A man was hacked to death in broad daylight on a busy road in Hyderabad on Wednesday even as policemen present nearby allegedly stood as mute spectators.

Two men chased a man and hacked him to death with an axe on Attapur road under PVNR Expressway as people watched in horror.

One of the attackers repeatedly dealt blows with the axe till he was certain that the victim lost his life.

Police identified the slain man as Ramesh Goud (38), the main accused in the murder of his friend Mahesh Goud in a sexual jealousy case last year.

Mahesh Goud’s father Krishna Goud and uncle Laxman Goud avenged his murder by killing Ramesh, when he was returning home after appearing in a court in the murder case.

Witnesses said a couple of policemen present near the scene of the crime did nothing to stop the killers. Police officials, however, claimed that they had gone to get their batons.

In one video which went viral on social media, a police patrol vehicle was also seen passing by. The officials, however, clarified that the vehicle went a few yards ahead and stopped by the roadside.

Some passersby tried to stop the attackers but in vain. The assailants were not afraid even after seeing the policemen and the patrol vehicle.

The killer in the video is seen buttoning his shirt after striking a series of blows with the axe and raising his hand as if to signal “victory”.

The killers were later arrested by the police.

Wednesday’s killing is another shocking twist in the case which appeared to be from a film. Ramesh, with the help of three men, had killed Mahesh in a brutal fashion in December last year because the latter was getting close to his paramour.

According to police, Ramesh had extramarital relations with a woman but his friend Mahesh had also started developing friendship with her. As Mahesh did not mend his ways despite warnings, Ramesh hatched a plot to eliminate him.

Ramesh along with three others took Mahesh on a trip to a temple near the city. When Mahesh was fully drunk, Ramesh slit his throat with a knife in the moving car. They later burnt the body near the temple.

The crime came to light when the workers at a car service centre found blood stains in the car and alerted the police.

Ganesh procession underway in Hyderabad

0

The mammoth Ganesh procession was underway here on Sunday amid tight security.

Hundreds of idols from various parts of Hyderabad, its twin city Secunderabad and surrounding areas were bring carried to water bodies for immersion, marking the culmination of 11-day festivities.

Thousands of people were participating in the “Shobha yatra” or the centralized procession from Balapur on Hyderabad fringes to Hussain Sagar in the heart of the city.

Idols of the elephant-headed Hindu god in different sizes and avatars were being brought to the lake on trucks amid slogans of devotees as police were maintaining a tight vigil to prevent any untoward incident.

More than 15 lakh people are expected to participate in the day-long procession.

According to officials, 14,000 idols were installed in ‘pandals’ or makeshift structures at public places while an equal number of idols were put up without registration. Majority of these idols will be immersed in Hussain Sagar.

The main procession began from Balapur with the traditional auction of ‘laddu’. Resident Srinivas Gupta bought the ‘laddu’ for Rs 16.60 lakh.

About 20,000 policemen have been deployed as part of the massive security arrangements for the annual procession.

Director General of Police Mahender Reddy and other top officials are monitoring the procession in Hyderabad and other major towns in Telangana at the state command and control centre, connected with CCTV cameras.

The police chief said they were using technology for effective monitoring to ensure peaceful and smooth conduct of the processions.

In Hyderabad alone, 2.5 lakh surveillance cameras are being used to monitor the procession from Balapur to Hussain Sagar.

For the second year in a row, the tallest idol began its journey early. The 57-feet-tall Ganesh installed at Khairatabad was carried on a trailer truck. After covering the four-km distance, the idol reached Hussain Sagar by afternoon.

During the previous years, the tallest idol used to be the last to begin its journey for immersion and the process used to stretch on to the next day. The police persuaded the organisers to start the procession early for smooth conduct of the immersion.

Authorities have deployed 200 cranes, including 51 static cranes, at Hussain Sagar and other water bodies for immersion.

According to officials, over 50,000 idols including small and medium sized idols were immersed during the last two days. Majority of the idols will be immersed on Sunday.

Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has deployed 10,000 sanitation workers across the twin cities. According to GHMC commissioner M. Dana Kishore, one action teams was deployed every 3 km along 370 km procession route (all processions from different points).

Two teams of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams, 38 fire tenders, 12 boats and 10 swimmers were deployed to deal with any emergency situation.
