Did not run away from constituency, KCR’s daughter attacks Rahul Gandhi

1

A war of words broke out between Telangana’s ruling TRS and opposition Congress on Tuesday after Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s tweets over procurement of paddy from Telangana farmers.

With Gandhi slamming both the BJP government at the Centre and the TRS government in the state for failing to procure paddy, TRS leader K. Kavitha joined issue with him.

Kavitha, a state legislator and daughter of Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, advised Gandhi not to just resort to tweets for political mileage but extend support to the TRS demand for uniform procurement policy for the entire country.

Kavitha took to Twitter to respond to Gandhi’s earlier tweets in Telugu. She wrote that every day, TRS MPs are going to the well of ths house in the Parliament demanding that there should not be one procurement policy for Punjab and Haryana and another policy for other states.

“If you are sincere, come to the well and protest in support of TRS MPs. Demand one nation one procurement policy,” Kavitha told him

Congress MP incharge of Telangana Manickam Tagore hit back at Kavitha, asking her not to play with Telangana farmers by ‘one nation one procurement’ demand.

“Nothing personal against you. Kindly don’t take the Nizamabad defeat to your heart. It’s the same Turmeric farmers who defeated TRS because TRS couldn’t keep the promise to farmers,” tweeted Tagore referring to the defeat of Kavitha in Nizamabad Lok Sabha constituency in 2019 when several turmeric farmers had filed their nominations.

Stating that farmers want their paddy to be procured for a decent price, Tagore warned Kavitha that if they play with farmers, then what turmeric farmers did to her in Nizamabad will happen to the TRS in 2023. He urged her to tell KCR not to play with farmers of Telangana.

Kavitha then hit back, this time targetting Gandhi. “This arrogance reduced your party into double digits in the same parliament. Win or lose, I did not run away from my constituency like your ex-CP Rahul Gandhi did. Also, I did not contest two seats like your ex-CP,” she tweeted, tagging Gandhi.

Stating that the TRS is demanding ‘one nation one procurement policy’, she wanted to know the stand of Rahul Gandhi on this. “TRS will always be with the farmers & won’t rest until every gram of Telangana paddy is procured,” she added.

The exchange of words did not end with this as Manickam Tagore tweeted again to tell Kavitha that TRS MPs are not in the well of the Lok Sabha but “are in the Central Hall tasting Dhokla and Biryani”. “Let’s not forget who signed an agreement in August 2021,” he wrote referring to the agreement signed between the Telangana government and Food Corporation of India (FCI) over procurement.

State Congress chief A. Revanth Reddy also tweeted that Telangana government had signed an agreement in August 2021 that it will not give boiled rice to FCI, and “the signature on the agreement has now become the noose around Telangana farmers’ neck”.

Why KCR took actor Prakash Raj, Kavitha in special flight to Mumbai?

0

When TRS president and Telangana Chief Minister K.Chandrashekar Rao was boarding the special flight at Begumpet airport on Sunday morning (today) to leave for Mumbai to meet Shiv Sena chief, Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thakeray and NCP chief Sharad Pawar, everyone was surprised to visuals of actor Prakash Raj and KCR’s daughter Kalvakuntla Kavitha boarding the flight along with KCR.

This is because KCR prefers to visit states on special flights with few ministers like Vemula Prashanth Reddy, MLCs like Palla Rajeshwar Reddy, MPs J.Santosh Kumar, K.Keshava Rao etc.

Surprisingly, actor Prakash Raj and Kavitha got a chance to fly with KCR to Mumbai on Sunday.

This raised questions over why KCR took them to Mumbai and what KCR tried to convey with this?

Speculations are rife in TRS circles that KCR wants to project himself as ‘anti-Modi’ and ‘anti-BJP’ by taking along Prakash Raj, who is known to be the strong critic of Modi and BJP at the national level. Since KCR is trying to play a key role in national politics by bringing all parties against BJP, he took Prakash Raj with him who has got a national image and reputation as a fighter against Modi and BJP.

By taking Kavitha, KCR wants to convey a message that he wants her daughter confine to national politics and not state politics as everyone is expecting after he made her MLC.

KCR wants to convey that MLC was only a ‘stop-gap arrangement’ after she lost Nizamabad Lok Sabha seat in 2019 and she will be made to contest Lok Sabha elections again from Nizamabad or any other seat in 2024. KCR wants to indicate that only his son KTR will run the political show in Telangana in TRS and government and he will not create another power centre in TRS by continuing Kavitha in state politics.

KCR’s daughter, Cong leader engage in war of words over T’gana

0

A day after Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao came out openly in defence of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, there was a war of words between the former’s daughter K. Kavitha and Congress MP Manickam Tagore on who should get the credit for the formation of Telangana state.

Kavitha, a member of Telangana state legislative council, tweeted that Telangana was not a gift and it was achieved by the people’s movement under the leadership of Chandrasekhar Rao.

Kavitha, stated this in response to a tweet by Congress leader Manickam Tagore, who is in-charge of the party affairs in Telangana.

Tagore had described Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) as chameleon and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) as communal. He termed them as two sides of the same coin. The Congress leader said the party will continue to work for a Telangana which millions of Telangana youth wanted which Sonia Gandhi wanted. “In 7 years it never happeneda to make that happen, we need to defeat the chameleon TRS & communal BJP. Both are 2 sides of the same coin. Congress can & will,” he wrote.

“Just setting the record state Manickam Ji once and for all. KCR Garu and TRS Party led people’s movement for Telangana, it was not a gift. It was a fight and truth won,” responded Kavitha.

The Congress MP then hit back at Kavitha reminding her that Telangana wasn’t a one leader movement. “It was a people’s movement. Everyone stood hand in hand and fought for it. But it was Sonia Amma’s resolve that made a million dream’s possible. Recently Modiji blamed Congress for creation of Telangana. Don’t forget,” he said.

Tagore also reminded Kavitha that her father called Sonia Gandhi ‘Amma of Telangana’ but changed his words and supported BJP in all the anti people decisions like land bill, GST, demonetization, Rafale and CAA for seven years.

“Again yesterday, he changed his stand, How can we believe he won’t change his stand again?” the Congress leader asked. “Congress will never change its stand on BJP as communal politics,” he added.

KCR at his news conference on Sunday had slammed Assam Chief Minister Hemanta Biswa Sarma for his offensive remarks against Rahul Gandhi for demanding proof of surgical strikes and demanded his dismissal.

The TRS chief also defended Rahul Gandhi over Rafale deal and announced that he will approach the Supreme Court over the massive corruption.

Will ‘2nd time MLC’ be lucky for Kavitha?

0

Kalvakuntla Kavitha, the daughter of TRS chief and Telangana Chief Minister K.Chandrashekar Rao took oath as MLC for the second time on Wednesday (today).

She took oath as MLC for first time in October 2020. But her term ended in January 2022. She again got elected as MLC unanimously from Nizamabad Local Bodies Constituency in December 2021.

Kavitha will now remain as MLC for six years till January 2028. When Kavitha took oath as MLC for first time in 2020, there were speculations that KCR made her MLC to take Kavitha into his cabinet.

But that never happened in her first term as MLC. Kavitha now became MLC for second time which again fuelled speculations in political circles about the possibility of KCR inducting her into his cabinet.

But political analysts see no such chances as TRS is currently going through a tough phase due to defeat in the recent Huzurabad Assembly bypoll in the hands of BJP’s Etala Rajender and BJP emerging as a strong force in Telangana.

KCR is already facing severe criticism of running ‘family rule’ in Telangana by making his son KTR and nephew Harish Rao as ministers and his another nephew J.Santhosh Kumar as Rajya Sabha member. Under these circumstances, if KCR makes his daughter as minister, it will fuel further criticism against TRS.

For these reasons, it is believed that KCR may not take Kavitha into his cabinet and will again send her to national politics by asking her to contest from Nizamabad Lok Sabha again in 2024 Lok Sabha polls.

Kavitha won Nizamabad Lok Sabha seat in 2014 but lost to BJP’s Dharmapuri Aravind in 2019.

So, all these factors indicate that the second time MLC tenure for Kavitha may not prove lucky for her to become minister.

Kavitha sets up helpline for Covid affected

1

Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao’s daughter and a state legislator K. Kavitha has opened a helpline to provide assistance to the Covid-19 infected people during the ongoing second wave of the pandemic.

The member of Telangana Legislative Council tweeted on Wednesday that people may contact the helplines in Hyderabad or Nizamabad.

“Been continuously receiving calls & messages for assistance related to COVID-19. Kindly contact my office Hyd : 040-23599999 / 89856 99999 Nzb : 08462- 250666 for any #COVID19 related request or query,” she tweeted.

Kavitha, a former member of Parliament, said her team will be available round the clock.

The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) leader has been receiving requests for help from families of Covid-19 infected people seeking beds in hospitals, medicines, better treatment facilities or financial assistance.

Kavitha to enter ‘cricket politics’

1

There is a huge buzz in political circles in Telangana that Kalvakuntla Kavitha, MLC and daughter of TRS chief and Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao is attempting to enter into ‘cricket politics’ in Telangana.

She is planning to become the president of Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) in the next elections.

At present, former Indian captain Mohd Azharuddin is working as the president of HCA.

Azhar was elected in September 2019 and his two-year tenure will end in September 2021.

This means the next elections for HCA should be held in September this year for which six months are left.

Kavitha is said to be actively making moves to bag HCA president post.

She wants to rake up controversies in HCA over the last two years and seek votes based on strengthening cricket in Telangana as well as encouraging local Telangana talent in cricket teams at various levels.

Azhar group and Shivlal Yadav groups in HCA are currently engaged in a bitter fight over corruption and irregularities in HCA.

Kavitha plans to take up injustice being meted out to local Telangana players in team selections as a major poll plank during HCA elections.

Telangana demands rollback of wage cut for Gulf workers

1

The Telangana government has demanded the immediate rollback of the latest notifications by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), lowering the Minimum Referral Wages (MRW) of Indian labour in the Gulf countries by 30-50 per cent.

During an interaction with members of NRI associations here on Wednesday, Member of Telangana Legislative Council K. Kavitha made a strong demand for rolling back the ‘regressive’ order.

She stated that about 90 lakh migrants from across the country are currently working in the Gulf countries and among these a majority belong to the states of Telangana, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Kerala.

Kavitha, who is the daughter of Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, said that MEA support is very limited for the immigrants who already work in harsh conditions, even in comparison to smaller countries like the Philippines.

She said that this move will give the respective countries a reason to further reduce the current and existing wages of the migrants.

She also slammed the BJP for the ‘unruly’ notification and said that the country already lags behind in having a strong immigrant policy. The new notification will only add to the troubles of the immigrants.

Kavitha added that the notification also opens the possibility of massive job loss, loss of capital and employment at forced minimum wages.

Earlier, NRI Affairs Minister K.T. Rama Rao urged Union Minister for External Affairs S. Jaishankar to reconsider the notification and address the fears expressed by migrant workers from Telangana working in the Gulf countries.

In a series of tweets on Tuesday, Rama Rao said the recent circulars were a cause of huge concern as the wages of lakhs of Telangana migrant workers in the Gulf countries will get adversely impacted.

“Already there is considerable distress among all migrant workers due to wage losses as a result of Covid-19 and lockdowns. I request you to use your good offices to ensure that our migrant workers’ interests are protected. Urge you to take up the matter at the earliest,” he tweeted, tagging Jaishankar.

The new move is likely to impact more than seven lakh Telangana workers in Saudi Arabia, Oman, Kuwait, United Arab Emirates (UAE) and other Gulf countries.

The Overseas Employment and Protector General of Emigrants Division in the Ministry of External Affairs issued two separate circulars on September 8 and 21. The MEA fixed MRW at $200 for workers going to Qatar, Bahrain, Oman and the UAE, and $245 for Kuwait and $324 for Saudi Arabia.

Kavitha files nomination for Nizamabad MLC seat

1

Former Nizamabad MP K Kavitha and chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao’s daughter has filed her nomination papers for the Nizamabad MLC seat

On Wednesday, she met Speaker Pocharam Srinivas before filing her nomination for the Nizamabad MLC seat which fell vacant after the incumbent R Bhupathi Reddy was disqualified following his defection to Congress from the TRS ahead of the 2018 Assembly elections.

In 2019 elections, Nizamabad’s sitting MP Kalvakuntla Kavitha lost the seat to the BJP candidate Arvind Dharmapuri with a margin of over 70,000 votes.

In an unprecedented move, over 179 angry turmeric and red jowar farmers filed their nominations against Kavita in the Lok Sabha elections. The farmers who jumped in the fray, demanding constitution of a turmeric board and remunerative price for their produce played a key role in the defeat of Kavitha in the Nizamabad Lok Sabha election. A total of 98,723 were polled in favour of the 179 farmers, indicating that the farmers played a huge role in defeating KCR’s daughter who had promised to set up a national turmeric board, but could not deliver on that.

TRS leader’s supporter dies of shock over her defeat

0

Disheartened by the defeat of Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao’s daughter K. Kavitha in the Lok Sabha elections, one of her supporters died of shock, TRS leaders said on Monday.

Kishore, a Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) worker, died of cardiac arrest on Saturday in his village Manchikappa in Nizamabad district.

Following Kavitha’s defeat from the Nizamabad Lok Sabha constituency, Kishore had stopped sleeping and eating, according to the party leaders.

Kavitha on Monday visited Kishore’s house and assured full support to the family from the party.

The TRS leader appealed to party workers and her supporters not to lose heart as defeat and victory were part of the democratic process.

The former MP said workers were the strength of the party and they should face the situation with courage.

Kavitha, who was elected from Nizamabad in 2014, assured the people that she will continue to work for them.

Kavitha was defeated by the Bharatiya Janata Party’s D. Arvind by over 71,000 votes.

Party leaders said her prospects were marred by the entry of a record number of candidates including 178 farmers who wanted to highlight their problems like lack of remunerative prices for turmeric and red jowar.

The constituency also hit the national headlines as the Election Commission used a record number of Electronic Voting Machines to facilitate polling.

Kavitha, Renuka Chowdary among key contestants in Telangana

0

The Nizamabad seat from where Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao’s daughter K. Kavitha is seeking re-election is set to create history with the largest number of candidates, including 178 farmers, who entered the fray to highlight their problems.

Kavitha, state Congress chief Uttam Kumar Reddy and former union minister Renuka Chowdary are among the prominent candidates for April 11 elections to all 17 Lok Sabha seats from Telangana.

The farmers in the fray, majority of them turmeric and red sorghum, want to highlight the failure of the state and the central governments in assuring them remunerative prices for their produce. The turmeric farmers are also demanding settting up of national turmeric board in Nizamabad.

More than 2.95 crore voters will decide the fortunes of 443 candidates including, 185 candidates in Nizamabad in the single phase polling on Thursday.

The constituency is also set to enter the records book as the Election Commission of India has decided to use 12 Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) in each polling booth for conducting the polling process.

KCR’s daughter is locked in a three-cornered contest with Congress Secretary Madhu Yaskhi Goud and BJP’s D. Arvind.

According to Chief Electoral Officer Rajat Kumar, the state has 2,95,18,964 voters comprising 1,48,42,619 men, 1,46,74,977 women and 1,368 third gender voters. The number of voters has gone up by over 14 lakh since the Assembly elections held in December 2018.

Buoyed by its landslide victory in Assembly elections, ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) is confident of a clean sweep along with its ally All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), whose president Asaduddin Owaisi appears to be on course to win the Hyderabad seat for a fourth term.

Leading the TRS campaign, party president and Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao sought another resounding mandate so that the party can play a key role in formation of next government at the Centre.

KCR, who last year mooted Federal Front as an alternative to BJP and Congress, has been telling every election meeting that the region parties will form non-BJP non-Congress government and bring a qualitative change in the national politics.

“From galli to Dilli, you need your own representatives to safeguard the state’s interests. Those who are gulams (slaves) of Dilli are not expected to do anything for state,” says KCR targeting both the national parties.

A key feature of this election is the absence of Telugu Desam Party (TDP), who for the first time in its history is not contesting Lok Sabha elections in Telangana. As its alliance with the Congress in the recent Assembly elections failed to pay the dividends, TDP decided to stay away from the polls.

YSR Congress Party (YSRCP), which contested 2014 elections, has also opted out. It did not contest the Assembly elections as well.

The Congress, which had bagged 19 seats in 119-member Assembly, looks demoralised with 10 MLAs and several other leaders defecting to TRS during last one month. In the absence of strong candidates to take on TRS, the party had to fall back on the leaders who were defeated in the Assembly elections.

These include party’s state working presidents A. Revanth Reddy and Ponnam Prabhakar, who are contesting from Malkajgiri and Karimnagar constituencies respectively.

In Khammam, Congress senior leader and former union minister Renuka Chowdary is locked in a direct fight against Nama Nageswara Rao, who quit TDP to join TRS and within hours was rewarded with a ticket.

In Secunderabad, the lone seat won by BJP in 2014, its candidate G. Kishan Reddy is locked in a triangular contest with Anjan Kumar Yadav of Congress and T. Sai Kiran Yadav of the TRS.

Khammam, Secunderabad, Nagarkurnool and Nalgonda are the four seats besides Hyderabad which TRS never won since it was floated in 2001 by KCR to revive Telangana movement.

The party is also looking for first victory in Malkajgiri, which came into existence in 2009 following delimitation of constituencies and is the largest constituency in the country with over 31 lakh voters.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a couple of election rallies while central ministers Sushma Swaraj, Rajnath Singh, Nirmala Sitharaman, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also campaigned for the party. They targeted KCR for his family rule and alliance with AIMIM. They highlighted the achievements of the BJP-led NDA government during last five years and claimed that the country can be safe and prosper if it retains the power.

For Congress, its president Rahul Gandhi addressed five rallies and a couple of central leaders, including Ghulam Nabi Azad, campaigned for the party, highlighting the promises made in the manifesto, especially the minimum income scheme under which every poor family will get Rs.72,000 annually.

The Congress party pins its hopes on state chief Uttam Kumar Reddy (Nalgonda), Revanth Reddy (Malkajgiri), Renuka Chowdary (Khammam) and a couple of others.

In 2014, TRS had bagged 11 seats while Congress won two. TDP and BJP, which had an alliance, secured a seat each. YSRCP and AIMIM also won a seat each. The MPs of TDP and YSRCP and also one from Congress defected to TRS.

The ruling party also lost one MP on the eve of Assembly elections when Konda Vishweshwar Reddy, elected from Chevella, joined the Congress.
