Superstar Mahesh Babu’s upcoming spy thriller SPYder is one of the tentpole films this year. The big budget bilingual drama, directed by AR Murugadoss, is doing phenomenal pre release business in both Tamil and Telugu trade circles. Telugu360 has already reported that the producer is quoting 16-18 Crores for the overseas rights.

Now, it is exclusively learnt that the North America rights including Telugu and Tamil versions have been snapped for a staggering 15.5 Crores by Atmus and AZ India, one of the leading distributor in US. A formal agreement will be signed in next two days.

Last week, it was reported that the Tamil rights of Rest of World were sold for 8 Crores. With 23.5 Crores business till now, SPYder has set up a non Baahubali record in overseas.

Mahesh Babu carries a strong market in overseas circuit and this is a stunning deal for the producer.

The film stars Rakul Preet Singh and SJ Suryah in crucial roles. NV Prasad and Tagore Madhu are the producers.

SPYder first single coming soon

Finally, the makers of Mahesh Babu’s highly anticipated spy thriller SPYder have decided to kick start the promotions in a grand way. The latest update reveals that the first single from the film will be unveiled at 6:00 pm on August 2nd. Sources say that there will a surprise every Wednesday from next week till the film’s release.

Today evening a small video snippet announcing the release of first single ‘Boom Boom’ was released by the makers. A making video will also be released along with the audio song. Harris Jayraj is the composer.

The team will soon fly to Romania to wrap up the final song shoot. The audio will be launched in the last week of August.

Rakul Preet Singh is the heroine and SJ Suryah is playing a crucial role in the film. AR Murugadoss is the director.

Superstar Mahesh Babu, who has been brainstorming over a few ideas to expand his presence into other fields, is now planning to enter Educational sector. And, he has decided to set up an international school in Amaravati, the capital of Andhra Pradesh, as his maiden venture.

Mahesh Babu will collaborate with a producer, who is very close to his family and has also produced two of his films, for setting up the school. Although Hyderabad was considered initially, Mahesh and his partner opted for Amaravati as it is being projected as a ‘worldclass city in making’, and that there are no reputed schools in the new capital city.

On the other hand, Hyderabad already boasts of plethora of international schools. Moreover, the AP government has promised incentives to those who set up institutions in the newly formed state. Considering all these factors, Mahesh is chalking out plans to institute his school in Amaravati.

On work front, Mahesh is getting ready to shoot for the only remaining song for SPYder. Next, he will resume shooting for Bharat Ane Nenu and will also take part in the extensive promotional campaign for SPYder.

Close sources reported that the Tamil domestic rights and Tamil satellite rights have fetched 23 Crores for the producer, which is the highest price in Mahesh Babu’s career. With Lyca Productions associating with SPYder, a massive release all over Tamil Nadu is on cards.

Also, trade circles are reporting that the overseas rights ( excluding US) are likely to be sold for a massive 8 Crores and the producer is getting offers in the range of 17 Crores for US theatrical rights alone.

The overseas market for Telugu films has increased by leaps and bounds in the last few years. Producers are reaping good chunk of their overall profits from overseas distribution rights. This is the reason why big ticket producers are demanding hefty amounts from overseas buyers. But, due to the change in the payout structure, the scenario has changed drastically in the last few months. Overseas buyers are cautious about the profit margin and are not willing to shell out huge prices. This is clearly evident as Dussehra biggies are struggling to find buyers in overseas.

As Telugu360 reported earlier, Mahesh Babu’s Spyder is yet to close its business in overseas circuit. Initially, producer quoted an exorbitant 22-25 crore range for overseas rights. As there is no response among trade circles, producer brought the price down to 16-18 Crores. Still, there are no takers for the film despite its crazy combination.

Another big ticket slated to hit the screens for Dussehra is NTR’s Jai Lava Kusa. The film is doing phenomenal business in Telugu states, but the overseas deal is yet to be sealed. Producer quoted around 15 Crores a few months. As no buyer is interested, they are now offering the rights for 11-12 Crores range. But, no has come forward to snap the rights.

Another Dussehra release Paisa Vasool, starring Nandamuri Balakrishna in the lead, is also struggling to close its overseas deal. Sources say that producer is quoting an expensive price and no distributor is willing to pay the quoted amount.

With just two months left for these three releases, it remains to be seen if producers find buyers in overseas circuit.

Distributor of ‘Baahubali 2’ & ‘2.0’ for SPYder?

After the phenomenal success of Baahubali franchise across India, especially in Hindi circuit where the second part emerged as the highest grosser of All Time, Bollywood filmmakers are keenly watching at potential South films that have pan-India appeal. Besides Superstar Rajinikanth’s ‘2,0’, Mahesh Babu’s ‘SPYder’ has been identified as one such film that has the capability of breaking the language barrier.

AA Films, the noted Bollywood distribution firm owed by Anil Thadani, which hit a goldmine by distributing Baahubali 2’s Hindi version, has now acquired the Hindi rights of Spyder, as per a leading national media house. It may be noted that the same firm had earlier came on board to distribute ‘2.0’ across North India.

For the unknown, Anil Thadani of AA Films is a business partner and close friend of Karan Johar, which itself is an explanation enough for his interest in South biggies. Karan Johar’s brand image and acumen in promoting films, coupled with Thadani’s grip on distribution side, will surely help the aforementioned Bollywood biggies in having a wider release as well as grabbing attention of Bollywood folks.

SPYder post production happening in different countries

Superstar Mahesh Babu’s bilingual spy thriller SPYder is one of the highly awaited tent-pole films this year. After missing out on Summer release, the makers are keen on bringing it for Dussehra. The shooting formalities have been wrapped up barring a couple of songs. On the other side, the post production activities are in full swing.

Speaking to DC about the progress of the film, producer Tagore Madhu revealed that the graphics work is currently happening in different countries like Russia, Iran and UK. Special technical teams have been roped in to work for the film and a team based out in Iran which worked for Magadheera is also overseeing the graphics work of SPYder.

Earlier, the teaser work of the film was done in UK. It was evident from the teaser that the film will be high on technical values and makers seem to be going all out in making it a visual treat for audience.

Actress Kiara Advani, last seen on screen in Hindi film “Machine”, on Tuesday joined the sets of her maiden Telugu film “Bharat Ane Nenu”.

Film with Mahesh Babu will be big: Vamsi Paidipally

Filmmaker Vamsi Paidipally says his next yet-untitled Telugu project with superstar Mahesh Babu will be a big film for both their careers.

While remaining tight-lipped about the film and its genre, Paidipally told IANS: “Mahesh is very excited. When he heard the first narration, he was ready to go ahead. It’s going to be a big film in both of our careers.”

The project marks Paidipally’s first collaboration with Mahesh.

“Mahesh as an actor is ready to embrace everything. As a director, I really can’t ask for more and that’s what makes this film really exciting,” Paidipally said.

Paidipally earned critical acclaim for his last film, “Oopiri”, a slice-of-life drama which explores the relationship between a quadriplegic millionaire and his convict-turned-caretaker.

Asked if we can expect another slice-of-life flick with Mahesh Babu, he said: “It’s too early to talk about the film.”

Pooja Hegde is rumoured to be the leading lady.
