RGV Akhil movie used as a bait to sell Officer

0

King Nagarjuna teamed up with Ram Gopal Varma after years with Officer which carried low buzz right from day one. The teasers and the trailer failed to attract the audience and the film lacked interesting business offers. It is during this time, a film in the combo of Akhil and Ram Gopal Varma has been announced saying that Nag is extremely impressed with the way Officer has been shaping up. This film turned out to be a trap for Officer as the makers sold the film citing to offer Akhil’s film if they fail to recover the investments.

Officer released last Friday and has been declared as the biggest disaster of Telugu cinema. The buyers are left shattered and will end up recovering zero from their investments. One of the film’s buyers spoke to Telugu360 saying that he was cheated completely. “I was in plans to produce a small budget film and it is during this time, RGV’s close aides took me to JD Chakravarthy’s office and forced me to buy Officer. They even offered me Akhil – RGV’s film if I don’t recover my investments. Though I was not impressed with the teasers and the trailer, I was forced to buy the film. Now they are out of reach and I am asked to pay the QUBE charges for the film. Suicide is the only option left for me” confessed the distributor.

Officer lacked buyers and RGV’s team managed to sell the movie during the last hours citing Akhil’s film which is a huge trap. Nagarjuna has been staying calm and away from the business of Officer right from the first day. Ram Gopal Varma has been badly criticized for his work and is unavailable as of now.

Nag’s poor choice gives embarrassing openings

0

Seasoned star Akkineni Nagarjuna is known for his prudent selection of films both as an actor and a producer. His recent track record is very decent with films like Soggade Chinni Nayana, Oopiri and Raju Gari Gadhi 2 delivering desired results at box office. At this juncture of his career, Nag took a gamble by doing a film for Ram Gopal Varma who lost his touch long back.

The film, titled as Officer, released today to embarrassing reports from all sections of audience. The pared-to-death storyline and confusing narration with bizzare camera angles have let the film completely down and Akkineni fans have been thoroughly disappointed with Nagarjuna’s ham-fisted choice of script selection.

Officer opened on a disastrous note at box office in all areas. While the domestic revenues are below par, the overseas collections are very embarrassing.

Nag commands decent market in overseas as his previous films performed well there. However, his ill-thought-out plan to team up with RGV and not giving due to attention to the genre has back fired severely. Officer opened on a very poor note with $ 27K from its Thursday premiers.

This is a pathetic start for a hero like Nagarjuna as the collections are not even close to those of medium range young debut heroes. These embarrassing openings once again serve as a reminder that films with routine genre and lackluster script will be thoroughly rejected by overseas audience even though it has a star hero in the lead role.

Officer Review : RGV disappoints yet again !

Nagarjuna Officer Movie Review

Telugu360 Rating : 2.5/5

After a series of encounters by ruthless Mumbai officer Narayan Pasari, court orders a special investigation to fact finding. A Hyderabad cadre IPS officer Shivaji Rao (Nagarjuna) assigned to investigate the allegations on Narayan Pasari. Narayan Pasari is a dubious officer. On one hand he is solely responsible for eradication of Mumbai Mafia, on other hand he encourages contract killings under the guise of encounters.

Shivaji Rao takes on Narayan Pasari, rest of the film is how they try to outsmart each other.

Performances:

Nagarjuna as an IPS Officer shivajirao is good. Even at his age, looked physically so much fit in the role. Performance wise also he has done good job. Myra Sareen who acted as a lady officer played a glamorous role, she is okay. The girl who acted as Nag’s daughter, Baby Kaavya, is cute and acted well. The actor who played Narayan Pasari performed very good.

Analysis:

When news came out Nagarjuna, Ram Gopal varma are re-uniting after 25 years, obviously expectations went high for ‘Officer ‘film. However, after the teaser was released, the same expectations are earthed. The first half of the film is somewhat okay. It offers some variety in terms of story. Though the subject, as typical of RGV films, deals with mafia & police, this time departmental investigation on a bad cop brings in some interest aspect initially. However, soon it evaporates with pointless story and direction in second half. Too much violence at times, weird sound design, and weird camera angles test patience.

While Narayana Pasari characterization is interesting in first half, director could not explain the rationale behind his extreme behaviour. Once pasari released scot free in departmental inquiry, he running a mafia gang doesn’t make any sense. Then onwards, the special investigative squad formed by him operates as a mafia gang and chase Nagarjuna’s police squad. Here the story turns very routine crime drama. The smart writing which used to be in Ram Gopal Varma films is a bigtime missing. There is ample scope to insert brilliant scenes as double agents, cross intelligence etc. are involved in story. But he failed to do so. Because of poor production values, the cinematic experience is missing especially with its 1 hour 55 minutes short duration. There are two songs, both are situationally good enough.

Rahul penumatsa cinematography is weird with its crazy angles at times. Biswas’s sound design is good.

Positives:

  • Nagarajuna Role
  • A different story line in first half

Negatives:

  • Poor characterizations
  • Low production values
  • Boring second half
  • Excessive violence

Verdict:

Officer is another disappointing film from Ram Gopal Varma. He couldn’t utilize the comeback opportunity provided by Nagarjuna. With an average first half and poor second half, the officer movie is a disappointing one

1

Top director turns Chief Guest for Nag’s Officer

0

King Nagarjuna and Ram Gopal Varma joined hands after years for an action thriller Officer. Unfortunately, the film has been carrying low buzz due to various reasons and RGV is working hard to get some good buzz through pre-release promotions. A grand pre-release event has been planned in Hyderabad and it will take place on May 28th in N Convention Centre, Hyderabad. Ram Gopal Varma personally invited super talented director Sukumar for the event and got his nod.

Sukumar has been in news recently for the blockbuster Rangasthalam. Nagarjuna will start promoting the film next week and he plays a ruthless cop in Officer. The movie has been slated for June 1st release and is bankrolled by RGV’s Company.

‘Officer’ trade : Face Saving efforts by team

Akkineni Nagarjuna’s upcoming cop drama Officer is carrying very low buzz among audience and trade circles because of the poor track record of its director Ram Gopal Varma. The trailers and teasers couldn’t create any hype either because of their monotonous appeal.

The pre release business is also very underwhelming in all areas. Initially, a noted distributor came forward to release the film. But, he backed out after the release of the first teaser of the film.

In order to save face and generate some buzz around the film, the team is trying their best by promoting that the theatrical rights have been sold for a fancy price in various areas of Andhra. But, truth is that no distributor has come forward to release the film on own. All areas are going to be released on advance basis or through own release.

The expectations are very low even among Nagarjuna fans. It needs a miracle from RGV to deliver a decent film given the form he is in at present.

Produced by Sudheer Chandra, the film is inspired by a real-life story.

Official: Nag-Nani multi starrer is remake of that film

0

Director Sriram Aditya, who is making multi-starrer movie with Nagarjuna and Nani finally announced that it is remake of a Hindi film, Johnny Gaddaar. Nag is playing Don while Nani is playing doctor and 50% of the movie is complete now.

Johnny Gaddaar released in 2007, is neo-noir thriller film written and directed by Sriram Raghavan. The movie got huge critical acclaim as well as commercial success in 2007. The movie is about the gang of five that run a gambling club in the front end and conduct other underhand deals in the back ground – like selling illegally obtained idols, smuggled goods. The story takes a new turn when one of these 5 tried to betray others. It stars Neil Nitin Mukesh, Dharmendra, Zakir Hussain and Rimi Sen.

The film has one novel point – Neil, one of the 5 members of gang who tries to betray others, makes his moves based on the scenes in old bollywood movies. All his moves and sketches to betray his own gang and his escape plans – everything will be based on a scene in some old bollywood movie and most of them were Amithab’s movies. That point worked terrificly in the movie.

We have seen somewhat similar concept in Drushyam movie, where hero gets inspiration from old movies. But the way it is used in Johnny Gaddaar was much more intellectual. If director of Telugu film Sri Ram Aditya had adopted that part to Telugu movies and makes Nani to get “inspiration” from Telugu movies in his sketches, probably that point will work in Telugu too. Moreover, Sri Ram has handled movies of this genre and he is very adept at making multistarrers.

We will have to wait and see how this movie shapes up and how audience will receive.

Exclusive – Puri’s casting coup: Nag, Chay together

0

Together they’ve delivered a hit ‘Sivamani’ and a dud ‘Super’. And if our sources are to be believed, it looks like they are set to join forces again. Yes, you read it right. We are indeed talking about superstar Nagarjuna and director Puri Jagannadh. Giving them company in the film would be Naga Chaitanya.

“Puri narrated a story to Nagarjuna before ‘Mehbooba’ released. The actor loved the emotional quotient in it and days after the narration, he even confided in Puri that the story was haunting him. Since he’d be busy with ‘Bangarraju’ after completing Sriram Aditya’s untitled film, he asked Puri to wait for some more time. However, the result of ‘Mehbooba’ might have a bearing on the prospects of this film but as things stand now, it is very much on,” confirmed a source close to the development, while mentioning that it is the same reason why Nag took a special interest in promoting ‘Mehbooba’.

The source further added, “Since Puri doesn’t like to sit unoccupied for long, he might do a film up next—most probably with son Aakash and wrap it in time to be ready to direct Nag and Chaitanya. Nag assured Puri that ‘Bangarraju’, if and when it happens, would be ready for Sankranti. ”

Nagarjuna’s role inspired by real-life character

0

Akkineni Nagarjuna is going to be seen as a trigger-happy cop in his upcoming film Officer. Directed by Ram Gopal Varma, the story of the film is set in the backdrop of Mumbai. Since the project started rolling, there have been unconfirmed reports that Officer is inspired by Hollywood film Taken. RGV denied those reports many times.

Revealing the idea behind Officer, RGV said Nagarjuna’s role is based upon a true life of IPS officer K.M. Prasanna who hails from Karnataka. Presently posted as Addl. Comm of Crime Branch Mumbai, K.M. Prasanna was appointed as a SIT officer in 2010 to investigate the case of a highly reputed cop in Mumbai. The trailers and teasers of Officer revealed the same line.

After personally interacting with him a few years ago, RGV decided to make his real life story into a reel life script and came up with ‘Officer’. He said K.M. Prasanna bear an uncanny resemblance to Nagarjuna which inspired him to pen the script for Officer.

The film is slated for release on June 1st.

Freedom of expression also means the right to offend: RGV

Director Ram Gopal Varma’s upcoming film Officer is quite important for many reasons. To start off, it brings the director back together with Nagarjuna with whom he has given some memorable hits in the past, the most celebrated of which is definitely Siva that is considered a cult classic in Telugu cinema till date. The film also marked a new page for Nagarjuna who had finally arrived as a name of his own with Siva. Now, as they team up again in a flick that sees Nagarjuna as a cop, in an exclusive interview, RGV opens up about the film and of course other issues that have been keeping him in the news lately. Excerpts:

Cop dramas and Ram Gopal Varma have had quite a history. What novelty will Officer offer to the audience in that regard? How different will this be from any of the films you have done in the past?

The uniqueness of Officer is that instead of on a criminal, Nag will actually be investigating a cop. He is the chief of a special investigation team constituted by the Mumbai High Court. Whenever there’s an enquiry on any high-profile cop they always bring in an officer from out of the state so that the enquiry will be impartial. So, Nag plays a Hyderabad cop who’s investigating a Mumbai cop.

You tweeted earlier today that you shot the most violent physical fights ever for Officer. Could you tell us what went into filming this particular sequence?

Lately, most films are resorting to high-speed ramping and very unrealistic stunts whereas in Officer I tried to keep the fights really natural and realistic.

You teamed up with Nagarjuna after a very long time in the capacity of director-actor. How different was that experience in comparison to your past projects together?

I think both of us have matured both as people and as film enthusiasts and that will definitely show in the film as it’s a combined effort from both of us.

What has changed about him (Nag) over the years, both as an actor and as an individual?

I think he’s grown as an actor tremendously and he has also become very calm internally which is showing in his glowing personality.

Was there any real life incident or person that inspired the film’s storyline?

It’s based on two existing real life characters but I can’t take their names

Nagarjuna has played a cop in the past and most of the times excelled. Could you point to us a quality in him that makes him perfect for the avatar?

I think it’s his sternness and his intensity and his larger than life dignity.

What will his role in the film be like?

He plays the father of a 12-year-old girl. He has no love track in the film.

On another note, the film comes just around the time when Pawan Kalyan and his fans seem to see you as a bone of contention. And the common junta assumes this doesn’t mean well for your film. But as a filmmaker, do you think such issues have the capacity to influence the outcome of a film?

A film works on its own merits and no extraneous factors can really influence it.

And even though you say you tweet only for entertainment and to harm no one, would it not be fair to consider a possibility of that happening sometimes, maybe even unknown to you?

Freedom of expression also means the right to offend. Because if no one is offended there’s no need for freedom. Everyone, no matter who, whatever they say, will offend someone or the other. That’s being a part of the free world.

Do you think it was fair that the issue (that Sri Reddy raised initially) moved to completely another tangent from its original course soon after the involvement of Pawan Kalyan?

These things cannot be planned by anyone. They all owe it to the butterfly effect.

Lastly, a Civil Service ranker Y. Akshay Kumar met you recently and seemed to be taken in by you as a person. You seemed curious to meet him too. Was there something interesting that came out of the meeting?

What’s interesting was that a Civils Services topper got influenced by a failed civil engineer.

Officer Theatrical Trailer: RGV’s Action Template

0

Officer Theatrical Trailer

Ram Gopal Varma has been struggling for success and at this time, King Nagarjuna stepped out to bail out the talented director after he narrated the script of Officer. Touted to be an action thriller, Nag has been asked to play a ruthless cop in Officer. The film failed to catch the attention of the audience and after several attempts, the makers released the theatrical trailer of Officer today. Packed with loads of action, Officer reminds us about RGV’s old action cop dramas.

Officer showcases some thrilling action episodes but the basic plot seems to have nothing new and exciting. Officer is all about the investigation of a murder mystery and Nag leads the investigative team. The trailer even promises a dose of father – daughter sentiment which is a relief from back to back action. Nag looks dashing as a fearless cop and his performance is expected to be the major highlight of Officer. On the whole Officer trailer sounds like an old RGV’s action template. Bankrolled by RGV’s Company, the film will hit the screens very soon.

Nag reveals Chaitu’s look as ANR from Mahanati

0

Mahanati, the biopic of legendary actress Savitri has been out yesterday and the film received thumping response from the audience. Young actor Naga Chaitanya essayed the role of his grandfather Akkineni Nageswara Rao on screen. Chaitu has been completely apt and fit in the role of his grandfather on screen. Nagarjuna took his social media page to reveal the look of Chaitu from Mahanati.

“Am today a proud father and a jealous son. I never played my father legendary #ANR Garu. But, I am overwhelmed and very happy to present to you all, Chay as ANR in #Mahanati” posted Nag on his official twitter handle. Nag said that he is a proud father as Chaitu got an opportunity to essay the role of his father which he never had. Nag Ashwin directed Mahanati and Keerthy Suresh played the role of Savitri in the movie.

RGV trying to provoke PK fans on “Officer” publicity

4

Everybody knows director Ram Gopal Varma is not in his form and has been giving disaster movies. in fact everybody got surprised when Nagarjuna who is good form gave film Ram Gopal Varma. Now Ram gopal varma released the trailer of his latest movie officer and it is getting lukewarm response from audience as it looks like one more run of mill movie from RGV. However RGV put The blame On Pawan Kalyan fans for this and trying to provoke Pawan Kalyan fans in order to get some publicity for his movie. In a series of tweets, he tweeted there are only 11000 dislikes for this teaser and he asked are there only 11000 fans for Pawan Kalyan in Telugu States that has nearly 11 crore population

He tweeted, “As a fan,I am shocked and feel sad for @Pawankalyan that he has only 11 k fans ..That’s because @Iamnagarjuna ‘s #Officer teaser 2 has only 11 k dislikes. @iamnagarjuna ‘s #Officer ‘s warning to @PawanKalyan ‘s fans is to put more dislikes on #Officer . As fans of Pk we request @janasenaparty to take this seriously as it might make the voters feel in nearly 11 crore people he has only 11 thousand fans. If @PawanKalyan has only 11 thousand followers in a population of nearly 11 crores, #JanasenaParty should take serious steps for their party not to become a bigger disaster then #Prajarajyam ..I and @iamnagarjuna ‘s #Officer demand that as fans of P K.”

It is very sad to see Ram Gopal Varma, who made films like Shiva, Rangila, company, Sarkar , stooping this low to publicize is movie. Even though he was not in good form, when he made “Killing Veerappan movie” couple of scenes and shots reminded audience of vintage Ram Gopal Varma. Common audience as well as his fans expect him to deliver good product and then concentrate on marketing rather than giving his 90% energies to marketing.

Nagarjuna maintains silence about Officer

2

Akkineni Nagarjuna’s cop drama Officer, directed by RGV, has wrapped up its shoot a few days ago. The film was initially confirmed to hit the screens in May.

But, the public backlash on RGV due to his complicity with controversial actress Sri Reddy in blatant character assassination on Pawan Kalyan has led to the speculations that the release of Officer will be pushed ahead.

There has also been a widespread clamour to ban RGV from Telugu film industry.

Amidst all this chaos, Nag is maintaining stoic silence over the film. Usually, Nag himself promotes all his movies. He regularly posts updates through his Twitter handle.

For Officer, he used to tweet about the progress every now and then. But, after the RGV – Sri Reddy issue, Nagarjuna completely stopped posting about Officer. He hasn’t announced about the release date, neither he posted about its postponement.

Even after completion of shoot, Nag didn’t post anything. Today, RGV announced the release of a new teaser from Officer. However, Nagarjuna didn’t react on it.

Speculations are doing rounds that Nag is distancing himself away from this RGV movie as it may impact his reputation badly.

He has already shelved Akhil’s film with RGV which was announced a couple of months ago.

So, we have to wait and see if Nag completely avoids promoting Officer or if he opens about it after some more days.
