After Mythri, Nirvana Cinemas loses hit streak

Renowned overseas distribution house Nirvana Cinemas, which is known for associating with numerous hit films in the last two years, has now tasted consecutive flops with Antariksham and Padi Padi Leche Manasu. Similar to Mythri Movie Makers, Nirvana Cinemas also lost the success streak after bagging back to back hits.

Nirvana Cinemas has a strong success track in overseas as it distributed super hit films like Arjun Reddy, Mahanati and AWE. Recent releases Antariksham and Padi Padi Leche Manasu have put an end to their success run as both films turned out to be huge disasters at the overseas box office.

Recently, Nirvana Cinemas made production debut with a film titled as Manu. Unfortunately, the film left no trace at box office and disappointed them bigtime. After scoring big hits, the distribution house now delivered duds which impacted their track record bigtime. They have now pinned hopes on upcoming releases Yatra and Suryakantham which are hitting the screens in February.

Untimely flops for Varun Tej and Sharwanand

Promising young heroes Varun Tej and Sharwanand wanted to end the year on a high with their latest films which released on December 21st. Both Anthariksham and Padi Padi Leche Manasu generated good buzz when they went on floors. The teasers and trailers also received encouraging response from audience and added to the hype. Unfortunately, both films failed to impress audience. They are heading towards huge disasters at box office.

With back to back hits from Fidaa and Tholi Prema, Varun Tej carved out a niche for himself and created a decent market among current generation young heroes. His track record is now likely to take a huge beating with Anthariksham and it will definitely impact the pre release business of next films.

Sharwanand is also having a good phase as he had a career best year in 2017 with two super hits like Shathamanam Bhavathi and Mahanubhavudu. His teaming up with Hanu Raghavapudi set high expectations in trade circles. But, the dismal run of PPLM in the first weekend came as a huge disappointment.

These flops came at the wrong time for both Varun Tej and Sharwanand who are in the best phase of their careers. However, they have a strong lineup of films and have a chance to redeem for these failures.

Sunil’s second innings as comedian in doldrums

    0

Sunil recently started his second innings in Tollywood as comedian. But latest discussion in film circles is that Sunil’s career as comedian is now in doldrums.

Sunil was ruling the roost as top comedian in Tollywood when he left the comedy roles to become full-fledged hero. He even tasted success initially and his films like Poolarangadu had good run at box-office, especially in B-centers. However, later all his movies bit the dust at box office, thanks his poor choice of scripts. Audience gave their message clearly saying they want to watch Sunil doing comedy but not the romance and action. So, Sunil came back to his forte and did comedian roles in movies like Aravinda Sametha, Amar Akbar Anthony and Padi padi leche manasu’.

However, none of these roles are anywhere near to the comedy he did in his first innings. His roles in movies like Nuvvu Naku Nachav, Manmadhudu, Nuvvu Nenu are still popular today also. Moreover, other comedians like Vennela Kishore have already occupied the top position which Sunil was occupying earlier. If Sunil continues the same choice of roles, it will be very difficult for him to reclaim his top slot as comedian. We will have to wait and see whether Sunil will regain his form as comedian.

US box office : KGF gets respectable run, others turn out to be disasters

Three out of the four notable films that released last Friday are heading towards disaster at the US box office. Shah Rukh Khan’s Zero disappointed the trade circles big time with its embarrassing first weekend run. Telugu films Antariksham and Padi Padi Leche Manasu couldn’t attract audience because of the below par reviews and poor word of mouth. Kannada period film KGF managed to earn a respectable run in the just concluded weekend in overseas.

Zero, which started off on a slow note in overseas with $ 350 K on Friday, had an awful weekend as it collected dismal revenues on Saturday( $ 368K) and Sunday ( $ 270K). With just over $ 1M gross, the film is heading towards becoming a huge disaster in overseas.

Tollywood’s first space thriller Antariksham failed to convince overseas audience as the first weekend collections are very disappointing. After taking a moderate start with $ 91K on Thursday premiers, the Sankalp Reddy directional thoroughly struggled on the next three days to set the cash registers ringing. On Friday and Saturday, the film collected $ 63K and $ 77K. By the end of Sunday ( $42K), the total gross is $ 275K. With 3 Crores at stake on Antariksham, the distributors are going to suffer a loss of nearly 2.5 Crores due to the disastrous run.

Another Telugu film Padi Padi Leche Manasu is heading towards a huge loss venture for the overseas distributor. The film started off slowly with $ 75K from Thursday premiers, but couldn’t add much it’s tally on the next three days as it collected $ 44K, $50K and $30K. With $ 200K, the distributor might not even recover the expenses and will lose the entire investment of 3 Crores. Both films were distributed by Nirvana Cinemas.

Kannada film KGF managed to collect decent revenues in the first weekend due to good word of mouth. After a good start with $ 62K on Thursday, the period drama took lead over Telugu releases as it collected $ 59K, $ 102K and $ 80K in the first weekend to take the tally past $ 300K.

PPLM – Everything gone wrong from outset

Young actor Sharwanand tested his luck with Padi Padi Leche Manasu which is directed by Hanu Raghavapudi. The film has been made on a massive budget of Rs 40 crores and it released all over yesterday. The film received poor response and it has been badly rejected by the audience. Sources tell Telugu360 that result is pre-ordained and things were never steady from the beginning.

    Free hand to director:

With Sharwanand’s market in the bracket of Rs 15 crore mark, the makers spent Rs close to 35 crores on the film, which sure is a blunder. The shoot went on for 150 days and several episodes have been shot again and again. Sharwanand gave a free hand to Hanu and had complete faith in him. Sharwa surrendered to the director without any questions. But as output of the movie shows, the director didn’t live up to the expectations of the lead actor.

Hanu Raghavapudi’s stubborn attitude and ego is known across Tollywood circles. Padi Padi Leche Manasu made it loud and the entire world came to know about his ego.

Unnecessary spending – Budget Out of control:

The makers had to spend Rs 7 lakhs per day for the expenditures excluding the remunerations of the actors and technicians. A song that costed Rs 1 crore is not used in the film. This song comes at a time when Sai Pallavi pushes Sharwa into the water in the movie. It was shot in Rajasthan.

Hanu spent ample time and money to re-shoot several episodes which heaped up the budget. While a production executive was doing a good job, a second production executive entered into the scene which made things even worse.

Hanu is a director who demands for things in the last minute. He lacks clarity and has no control on the film’s budget.

    Poor CG work:

The CG work received poor response and the graphics have been quite poor. This brought a bad impact on the film and mobile phones are used when earth quake occurs.

Padi Padi Leche Manasu is one film that went wrong in all the aspects. With director lacking clarity and producer not bothered about the budget, Padi Padi Leche Manasu is one of the costly mistake in the recent times.

US box office : Mediocre start for new releases

    0

This Friday, three notable films released amidst strong expectations from trade circles and audience. While Anthariksham and Padi Padi Leche Manasu are two Telugu films which hit the screens today, Kannada magnum opus KGF also got a wide release at the US box office.

All three films couldn’t get jump start as they opened with mediocre collections on premiers day. Varun Tej’s space thriller Anthariksham led the pack of releases with $ 81K and Sharwanand’s romantic entertainer Padi Padi Leche Manasu managed to collect only $ 67K. With $ 54K, KGF also started on an average note at the US box office. All films have opened to average and below average talk from premiers and the web reviews are also below par.

Trade circles have pinned a lot of hopes on these new releases after the dull phase. The long weekend followed by Christmas holiday will be an added advantage for these three films. Will they sustain at the box office with average talk ? We have to wait and see.

PPLM Review – Second half gone awry

    Padi Padi Leche Manasu review

    Telugu360 Rating 2.5/5

Padi Padi Leche Manasu is a romantic entertainer featuring Sharwanand and Sai Pallavi in the lead roles. Directed by sensible filmmaker Hanu Raghavapudi, the film is predominantly shot in Kolkata and Nepal.

After making strong waves with impressive teasers and trailers, Padi Padi Leche Manasu is releasing today amid good expectations. Let’s find out if Sharwanand – Sai Pallavi pair can create magic on screen

    Story:

Set in Kolkata, Surya ( Sharwa ) tries to impress a medico Vaishali ( Sai Pallavi ) whom he likes a lot. Surya dupes Vaishali by claiming her unknown boyfriend is threatening him not to meet her. After a series of sequences, Vaishali develops curiosity towards the unknown person Surya has been talking about. Finally she discovers the truth, but accepts Surya’s love. Story takes an interesting turn when they visit Nepal.

Rest of the story is about the conflict point, how it is resolved.

    Performances:

Sharwand has shown top class performance as Surya. There are numerous scenes in which he showcases humor, love and pathos brilliantly. Sai Pallavi equally matches Sharwa with her talent. Especially in memory loss scenes, hiding her love towards Surya she is good. MuraliSharma ,Sampath Raj, Priya Raman , Sunil , Priyadarshi played other roles.

    Analysis:

Padi padi leche manasu starts off in a pleasant manner. It goes on sensibly with breezy songs until interval. Those scenes in which Surya tries to impress Vaishali came out well as writer has shown some freshness. Kolkata backdrop adds a different dimension to the novel script. Troubles starts after Vaishali accepts his love, and when they meet in Nepal. A silly conflict point, followed by an earth quake take down the good impression audience have on the film till then.

Second half starts on dull note, continues till the end in pathos. Surya restarting his love game on her, after she impacted with Amnesia etc. threads are unconvincing Hanu Raghavapudi who is good in shot making ensured this film is vibrant throughout the first half. He extracted pure melodies from the music director Vishal Chandrasekhar, also picturized them well. However, the director has failed in writing a strong conflict point and paid the price

    Positives:

    • Pleasant songs
    • Lead pair performance, chemistry
    • First half

    Negatives:

    • Boring second half
    • Poorest conflict point

    Verdict:

Padi Padi Leche Manasu is a good attempt which has gone wrong due to the poor conflict point and boring second half. This film is a musical hit, lead actors’ performances are good. Overall, a non-satisfactory film

    Telugu360 Rating 2.5/5

    Release Date : 21 Dec 2018
    Director : Hanu Raghavapudi
    Music director: Vishal Chandrasekhar
    Starring : Sharwanand, Sai Pallavi

Allu Arjun ‘Garu’ – Please give us a break

Stylish star Allu Arjun graced the pre release event of Sharwanand’s upcoming film Padi Padi Leche Manasu in Hyderabad. Talking on stage, Allu Arjun said he immensely liked the trailer and songs of the film. He appreciated the cast and crew and wished the film will become a big hit. Like ever, his speech is not devoid of artificiality and hyperbolic statements.

In his speech, Bunny addressed Sharwanand as ‘Garu’ saying that he deserves the respect because of his hard work and he is a self-made star. He also took the names of KCR, CBN, Chiranjeevi and Pawan Kalyan and said ‘Garu’ should be a must follow word with politicians and film stars names.

Allu Arjun’s preachy speech is now inviting trolls from audience as simply addressing someone as ‘Garu’ might not give an impression that you are respecting them. Some have also suggested that Bunny should tell the same to his uncle Naga Babu who recently raked a controversy by saying that he is not aware of Balakrishna.

Tollywood gearing up for a big bet this Friday

    0

With Christmas weekend inching, Tollywood is getting ready for a big fight this Friday. Sharwanand’s Padi Padi Leche Manasu and Varun Tej’s Anthariksham 9000 kmph are gearing up for December 21st release. Both the films are carrying decent buzz and are made on massive budgets. With huge delay and several re-shoots, the budget of Padi Padi Leche Manasu creeped up. The makers initially wanted to make the film on Rs 25 crores but the final product is touching Rs 40 crores.

Anthariksham 9000 kmph is made on a decent budget of Rs 25 crores and the theatrical rights, digital rights made the makers land in safe zone. Kannada film KGF is making huge noise and the film is getting a wide release in AP and Telangana. Dhanush’s Maari 2 will occupy decent number of screens. This Friday is quite crucial for Tollywood and two biggies Padi Padi Leche Manasu and Anthariksham 9000 kmph are testing their luck. We have to wait to see which film fares well in this box-office clash.
