Pawan Kalyan urges southern parties to unitedly fight bias

Leading Telugu actor and Jana Sena party chief Pawan Kalyan on Thursday urged all south Indian political parties to join hands and fight what he said was the biased attitude of north Indian leadership.

He launched a scathing attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for its former MP Tarun Vijay’s remarks about the skin colour of south Indians.

In a series of tweets, the actor-politician said the parties of south India should come on a common platform to get a better deal from the central government for their respective states and to fight the bias towards the region.

He agreed with CPI leader K. Narayana’s statement that in Tarun Vijay’s remarks, he saw a BJP agenda to bring about a south-north divide.

“Tarun Vijay’s demeaning racial remarks towards south Indians is a fine example of how the snobbish north Indian elites and political classes view our ‘Dravida Bharatha’ and its people,” he tweeted.

“To BJP leadership and to Tarun Vijay: We are in ‘Down South’ and we are foundation of this Nation, not your ‘Up North’ political leadership foot stand.”

Pawan also slammed the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), saying it had no right to compromise on the promised special category status with the Centre as the people of Andhra Pradesh brought TDP and BJP into power, trusting they would accord special category status to the state.

He urged the TDP not to mortgage the self-respect of the people of Andhra Pradesh for personal benefits.

The actor tweeted that it was quite disheartening to see central minister and TDP leader Ashok Gajapati Raju’s silence and absence of TDP MPs in Parliament when the discussion on special status to Andhra Pradesh came up.

“I think TDP MPs have forgotten the insult of their MPs getting beaten by North MPs in the parliament during the state bifurcation,” he remarked.

“Attitude of our political class (in Delhi). You put us down by our skin colour, we are ok, you mock at us by speaking in our Dravida tongue, we are ok; in Parliament you kick us, abuse us and divide us, we are ok. And we are ok to be slavish and subservient at the cost of our people’s self-respect as long as you do not deny us our contracts, business opportunities, bailing us out from our scams and wrongdoings.”

Pawan praised Yuvajana, Shramika, Rythu (YSR) Congress Party, saying its MPs were doing a commendable job in pursuing the special status issue with the Centre.

The actor, who campaigned for BJP-TDP alliance in the 2014 election, last year distanced himself from the coalition after the Centre refused to accord special status to Andhra Pradesh. He had since been targeting both the parties.

Last month, he announced that Jana Sena will contest 2019 the elections in both the Telugu states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

The importance of being Pawan Kalyan

[intro]What makes Pawan Kalyan click,  is something that baffles experts and the media. Here’s a short attempt at unwrapping the mystique behind the man.[/intro]

Tollywood has had many stars who cast a spell on the audiences in every generation but if there is one Universal Star who created a mystique and aura about himself in a limited span over the last decade or so,  it is Pawan Kalyan. What makes Pawan Kalyan click is something that baffles commentators and media experts.

Did he complete at-least 20 films in his twentieth year in Tollywood ? Hardly, he starred in just 16 films. Okay, if you take his fleeting presence in Shankardada MBBS, it is just 17 films.

Does he have bankable magic at the box-office? Nope, in the entire career, only five films have become blockbusters – Tholi Prema, Kushi,  Jalsa, Gabbar Singh and Attarintiki Daaredi.

Is he a media-savvy personality and does he endorse brands? Again, rarely. Except for a solitary Pepsi ad, Pawan never became serious about endorsements and he makes a media appearance only to make a point or two in his new political innings – as a bystander and conscience-keeper of  BJP and TDP –whom he supported in the last elections.

Does he run Blood-banks and Eye-banks to channelise fan activities? Did he act in diverse scripts? Does he command the top remuneration? Is he a good dancer? Does he speak flawless Telugu? None of these apply to Pawan again. But his emotional connect with the masses and classes is almost hysterical. There’s something enigmatic and endearing about him which makes producers and fans flock to him for more even as  the choices outside of PK are abundant.

If one were to attempt an analysis of his mystique, few factors stand out to explain the phenomenal following of Pawan Kalyan.

He is a natural actor and is comfortable in his skin on screen. No awkward or complicated dance moves, no obscene body language and no imitations of any other star except a momentary recount of Megastar in a few frames. It helped him carve out a niche for himself as an angry young man who is both intense and  calm like a sleeping volcano.

As a hero, he composes his own stunts, pens his scripts sometimes, and vastly improvises on the sets by altering the dialogues to suit the sensibilities of his audience and his own body-language. The combination of these talents helped him connect better with his audience because the fans think he is an all-powerful hero who is a superman of sorts. Improvisation is seen as a crime in movies but Pawan has raised the game to a different level with his impromptu suggestions and spontaneity. At times, it  resulted in failed  films at the box-office but the magic of PK never waned.

He never sought success and remained calm under the pressure of faltering films at the box-office. Between Kushi and Gabbar Singh, he tasted limited success. In spite of this,  he gave chances to directors – who couldn’t repeat success with either him or other heroes – like SJ Suryah, Bhimaneni, Muthyala Subbaiah, etc. This gave an impression to many fans that he is a man of values, not success.

His personal life went through many upheavals but that didn’t deter him from pursuing his passions. He never outpriced his competitors in remuneration throughout his career and demanded his share of profit  only when it is in the danger of getting reneged on, e.g the controversy about payments for Gopala Gopala. The turmoil in his personal life never affected his screen presence or his persona – it  became bigger and better.

Many fans believe that he is the most authentic package of a superstar for Tollywood. He has a great sense of comedy timing. He composes stunts which never looked out of place  – they are stunts that you and I can configure with help from some martial arts (in which he is trained well). His public conduct is one of dignity and idealism – he comes across as a well-read, contemplative actor who can speak lines that reverberate with millions of masses.  He is known to practise Vipassana meditation that has helped him weather so many personal and political storms in his life. His content may sometimes lack depth because every star does get carried away, but his charishma is showing no signs of fatigue despite  increasing competition in Tollywood. He is not getting younger but PK’s films still command eyeballs on the opening weekend. Two of his recent films figure in the Tollywood/South Top 10 list.

Apart from his political ideologies, his fans blindly think he stands for some things in life – a good family (even though he is seeking it time and again), empowerment of women and the weak, fighting for good causes (be it Olympic quests or farmer’s rights).  Despite his limitations and structural imbalances in his thinking against capitalism and its benefits, Pawan Kalyan is seen as an intellectually honest star who doesn’t mince his words, enjoys his movies and connects emotionally with his fans across ages.

It is an inexplicable combination of a lot of factors outlined above which makes him the most googlable film personality of Tollywood in recent era. The family which introduced him to the world of films – Mega Family with all the mega heroes perhaps do realise the power of the Powerstar on his birthday. Despite a public outcry against Pawan Kalyan by Nagababu recently, we have seen that both Ramcharan, Varun Tej and Sai Dharma Tej  have sent out fresh teasers about their upcoming films on the occasion of Pawan Kalyan’s birthday. Ramcharan released photos of his childhood facetime with PK and Sai Dharmatej released a scene in which he refers to Pawan Kalyan as “You should not ask whether you watched “Gabbar Singh”? You should ask how many times have you seen it?”.

It appears everybody in the Mega family realises the importance of being Pawan Kalyan and they dare not rub him on the wrong shoulder again. Here’s wishing Pawan Kalyan a happy Birthday. Let the Sardar’s spell continue…

Who tutored Pawan before reaching Penumaka?

0

The worry that Pawan Kalyan’s over enthusiasm would only add fuel to the fire the opposition trying to ignite in the capital region is said to have forced chief minister Naidu to keep the Land Acquisition (LA) process , set in motion last week, in abeyance.

According to sources in TDP, opposition YSRC is already in combative mode and rubbing the bellicose a actor on wrong side would aggravate the problem instead of helping address it.

TDP accused that YSRC wass fomenting trouble in these villages. stating that there had been concerted effort to incite the people oppose the land acquisition process, TDP sources said they knew who tutored the Pawan Kalyan before he reached Penumaka yesterday. “Our party knows well in advance that Pawan is getting feedback from a retired judge who has been campaigning against the new capital construction in Guntur district. Whatever Pawan spoke yesterday in Penumaka village was the version the Judge, who used to say this to the people here in number of villages and in round table meetings in Vijayawada,” a TDP leader told T-360 on condition of anonymity.

According to TDP sources, Pawan should be stopped from slowly playing into the hands of forces, which are trying to scuttle the development of capital here. Even the reference to Rayalaseema in Pawan’s speech was the turn phrase of the retired judge, the sources added.

“Now, if we take an antagonistic stand against Pawan, incidentally our own friend, it will be tantamount to helping YSRC which is organizing deekshas in these villages. What is wrong in Pawan asking us to convince people and take their lands with their consent,” the sources asked.

According to him many issues raised by Pawan such as VANPIC, Rayalaseema agitation, Muralimohan land in ORR zone etc had already proved music to the ears of opposition YSRC. If ignored, Pawan would become more active at a time when YSRCP already in the fray mobilizing their party cadre against the land acquisition and it would further embolden these opposition parties, the sources said defending the government decision to keep the LA in abeyance.

CRDA is equal to scandalous VANPIC -Pawan’s caustic remark

0

Janasena president and movie star Pawan kalyan unequivocally warned that TDP government should not resort to land acquisition in River Front villages in the Amaravati Capital development region with governmental force.

Taking a stand that is bound to cause embarrassment to the chief minister Chandrababu, Pawan said he was opposed to the acquisition the land from an area which gives three or four crops per year and whose owners were unwilling to part with their lands.

As far as the objective of taking the land from the farmers against their will, Pawan said,” there is no difference between scam ridden Vanpic project taken up by then chief minister YS Rajasekhar Reddy and CRDA(capital region development of authority) of Chandrababu Naidu. Both deprived the farmers of their lands.”
This analogy speaks volumes of Pawan’s mind.

Pawan reached Penumaka village, capital development region in Guntur district, this afternoon and had long interaction with farmers before addressing the gathering. A stone pelted at him by a miscreant failed to have any impact on the meeting.
All farmers told him that neither land pooling nor acquisition would be compensation for their land. The farmers told him they would rather commit suicide if they were to forego the land to the capital.
Many farmers, who own 25 to 60 cents told him that this small parcel was fetching them Rs 5000 per month, and the annuity the government was offering was just Rs 50,000 per year. “With land our lives also will be gone if the land is acquired,” the farmers told the ‘power star’.
Pawan with Penumak farmers

“When these small farmers are not willing to part with their lands, government is not supposed to invoke land acquisition act, which is surviving with an ordinance that is going to expire this month end,” Pawan said. Stating that he was not questioning those people who voluntarily offered their land, Pawan said, other farmers also had the same right not to offer their land.

Putting forth an impressive argument in support of the farmers, Pawan, dismissed the averments of ministers Narayana, Pattipati Pullarao, Ravela Kishore Babu and MP Galla Jayadev, and recalled how TDP MP Muralimohan, a rich man, recoiled in anguish when his land was acquired for Hyderabad Outer Ring Road during Congress regime.

“A rich man like Muralimohan knocked the doors of supreme court against land acquisition done for ORR. Then is it wrong for a poor man, who has nothing but a few cents of land, to oppose the land acquisition to save his livelihood,” Pawan asked. He said in biting sarcasm that Muralimohan knows well the pain losing of land causes.

Similarly, he asked MP Galla Jayadev to visit the area to listen to the stories of agony of losing the land which gave them food for generations to understand the pain that results from the forceful separation farmer from his land.

Indirectly, Pawan questioned inadequacy of of thinking that had gone into the location of capital.
“I have met people from Rayalaseema who want the capital in their region as they lost the capital when it was shifted from Kurnool to Hyderabad following the formation of Andhra Pradesh. It clearly shows that a region is feeling that injustice meted out to it,” he said acknowledging the region fear that
they might not get justice from a government which was ignoring the demands of backward region.
Pawan lauded the efforts to build sky scrapers in capital city while stating that capital should not be built with tears of poor farmers.

In the same vein, Pawan posed another irksome question to the TDP government.” You (TDP) opposed YS Rajasekhar Reddy’s land acquisition for the Vanpic project. You fought in support farmers stating the Congress government was grabbing the farmers’ land to the benefit of phony companies. Then, what is the difference between Vanpic and CRDA,” he asked.
pawan

Through out the speech, Pawan had been piercingly sarcastic on Chandrababu Naidus’ experience.
Many times he referred to him as the experienced man, able administrator, builder of hi-tech city and as a man who impressed even the president of India while simultaneously pricking Naidu for his thoughtless pressure on the farmers to surrender their land for capital construction.

However, Pawan, feigned cautious about TDP and the government. “I have not come here to fight with a chief minister whom he supported in 2014 elections, painfully going against the wishes of his own brother. We resolve issues across the table. In issues can’t be resolved throgh talk what is meaning democracy,” he asked and adding that he would not hesitate to lay down his life for a just cause.
While stating that he was still a supporter of TDP’s Naidu, he clarified that he was not a slave to that alliance.

Political storm clouds hover over Vijayawada

0

In the next few days Vijayawada, the temporary seat of government of Chandrababu Naidu, is all set to be encircled by intense political storm.

While Janasena president and movie star Pawan is going make a whirlwind tour of river front villages, YSR Congress has announced its program of agitation against the invocation land acquisition act to acquire the multi-crop lands in Amaravati capital region.

Pawan is said to have cancelled his movie shooting to visit these villages. His proposed visit has already unsettled the ruling Telugu Desam party. As per some sources in TDP, a meeting is likely between chief minister Chandrababu Naidu and Pawan. A team of ministers are planning to meet Pawan to make him understand good intention of government in acquiring the lands for world-class capital.

Any climb down by Pawan after these meetings would erode his image as a power star among the people Andhra Pradesh. Sitting unseen Pawan has raised temperature in the region by tweeting support to the people and urging the government to spare these ‘green-mines’ on the banks of River Krishna. Pawan opposed desctruction of the multi-crop lands in the name of capital construction.

For the past three four days farmers have been organizing dharnas in front of capital region development authority (CRDA) office. Today YSR Congress organized protest in front of CRDA office in Tullur. The party announced their program and it would culminate in party president Jagan’s diksha near the CRDA office in Vijayawada on August 26.

Before that the party would organize Rastha rokho on Prakasam barrage on August 23, and on 24 , YSRC leaders stage a protest dharna near CRDA office, Nidamarru followed by a public meeting. And on August 25, the party is going to organize a bandh in support to agitating farmers in Nidamarru, Betapudi, Penumaka and Tadepalli mandals.

As all opposition parties have undeclared solidarity among themselves versus TDP government all other parties are expected joint the programs and make it a success.

When Nagababu gave a stern message to Pawan Kalyan

0

Finally, Nagababu had an emotional outburst yesterday at a function ( Gallery here ) organised in celebration of Megastar Chiranjeevi’s 60th birthday. He had the guts to comment on the wild wolf whistles of Pawan Kalyan fans at functions of mega hero family members. It is usually observed that at every audio function of Ram Charan, Allu Arjun, and the gang, there are atleast 100-200 fans of Pawan Kalyan who occupy strategic corners of the auditorium and then at the opportune moment rabble-rouse the audience into hooting for Pawan Kalyan – who rarely attends events of the Megastar family heroes. The decibels are raised to deafening levels by fans of PK until the hero of the day responds to calm down and acknowledge the conspicuous absence of Pawan Kalyan.

In his outburst yesterday, Nagababu took on the fans of Power Star openly in the most unexpected manner. He pointed to a section of audience shouting slogans about Pawan Kalyan and confronted them directly: ”Why don’t you go to the office Pawan Kalyan and ask him why he doesn’t attend our family members’ functions? We invite him every time but he doesn’t want to attend. Instead of asking us, why don’t you ask him why he doesn’t want to attend? Every time you come and disrupt the proceedings. This time it is over. Don’t we want our brother to be part of our functions? But he doesn’t just show up. What can we do? This is not fair.” And he added that if the fans of Pawan Kalyan can, they should make Pawan Kalyan turn up at the function to launch his 150th film. This is the boldest statement that has come from the camp of Chiranjeevi family on the sensational and sometimes sensitive issues of why Pawan Kalyan never makes an appearance at the functions of the Megastar family members.

It is an indirect message to both Pawan Kalyan not to distance himself away from family of Megastar as well as to his fans not to steal the limelight from the function by instigating other fans at audio functions.

Spare these villages, Sri CM garu: Pawan’s last ditch tweet

0

With state government hell bent on acquiring the land from multi-cropped villages for the development of new capital Amaravati on the banks of River Krishna, Jana Sena president and movie star Pawan Kalyan once again, in a last ditch attempt, tweeted to urge the chief minister Chandrababu Naidu against taking over these uniquely fertile lands for the capital construction.

This time Pawan grudgingly approved the bitter truth that if one area is to be developed, invariably the other areas would have to bear the brunt, he said alluding to the loss being incurred to the villages who are opposed to offer their land to the Capital City project of Andhra Pradesh. He, however, urged the CM to ensure that the damage to the “other” is minimal.

Pawan, who visited these villages some time back to express his solidarity, has been urging the state government to spare these multi-cropped villages from the capital project. Pawan, instead of working for these people on the ground , chose a painless path of twitter to voice his concern in support of the farmers of Penumaka, Undavalli and Betapudi. On Wednesday he tweeted his support to the farmers.

“I urge Hon’ble CM of AP Sri CBN garu not to Use ‘Land acquisition act’ on Fertile Multi cropped Lands of Undavalli,Penumaka,Bethapudi..& other River front villages,” he said.

“The price of Development of one area r one group always results in environmental pollution, displacement & disgruntlement of another group. This is the very nature of civilisation. But development with least damage possible completely lies in the wisdom of rulers,” Pawan said.

It may be recalled that Municipal minister P Narayana revealed two days ago that government was planning acquire the final phase acquisition of land to the extent of 220 acres by the end of this month invoking the provisions of Land Acquisition Act.

Scoop : Here’s why Anisha was replaced by Kajal in Sardar

0

It all started last year when actress Anisha Ambrose was announced as the heroine in Gabbar Singh 2 . Not just the title, even the main heroine is changed now. A better word is to ‘be moved’. Anisha Ambrose in film terminology would be called a second heroine. If there was an equally successful heroine like Kajal in Anisha’s place she would be called a parallel lead. Pawan Kalyan’s fans and general movie going audiences were in a state of shock when Anisha was announced as a heroine. Just one film old and not even star heroine by any standards, she even appeared in a cameo in Gopala Gopala as a news reader. That was a bigger shock, because her maturity and non glam look was a strict no no by fans. Luckily the team did a quick PR job, they called the media and leaked the news that there would be a second heroine soon and a hunt for a glamorous girl is on; also Anisha’s role was not specified but it was clear that she would not be highlighted like Karisma Kotak in Shankardada MBBS part 2. She apparently was sent to Bangalore to learn yoga and tone her body, a news not yet confirmed by the movie team. All is well now, Kajal who never worked with Pawan Kalyan before is on board. There is a clear shortage of female actors, the producers cannot afford to take a risk by having a new girl as a main lead like they did for Panja.

The Problem of Being Pawan Kalyan

0

Life in reel world is easy. One need not break one’s head to figure out who is a hero or a villain. Heroes are extremely benevolent while Villains vile- always conspire, kill, rob, and booze as if they have nothing to do in life. They live like two different subspecies of Homo Sapiens-Homo Heroicus and Homo Villainus. Like the Neanderthals, villainus is overpowered and eliminated by Heroicus. The problem with real life is tad confusing. Here, heroes and villains are indistinguishable. They look alike in every aspect of life- in dressing, talking, loving, hating, abusing, cheating people, amassing wealth etc. You will never know who is a villain. One’s villain is another’s hero and vice versa. Today’s hero is tomorrow’s villain. This region’s villain is hero in the other region. Sometimes villains are resurrected as heroes and heroes are condemned to dustbin. Ordinary people are subjected to extreme anxiety in figuring out a hero or a villain. They fail and vote to somebody thinking he is a hero only to repent later.

Some time back, Chiranjeevi stepped into this real world as Homo Heroicus of tinsel world. He thought he would kill with a single stroke the Homo Villainus and become “Captain Andhra Pradesh”. He could not succeeded and quickly realized  that he was only a movie Heroicus. So, peeled off his costume and returned to his elements only to find that fighting in real life is not remunerative. So he joined Congress and which rewarded him with a glittering gift of post of union minister which can’t be bought with any amount of money.

Chirajneevi’s brother Pawan Kalyan, another member of Homo Heroicus, unmindful of the fate of his brother, stepped into real life battle, straight from the sets, amid too much background war cries and mobilized fan-army. He was a bit wiser in not entering fray in 2014. Why?  He can’t dream of becoming “Captain Andhra Pradesh.” Because the state was about to be divided. He tapped key ‘ wait and watch’. So, that he could enter as Homo Heroicus if 2014 election throws split verdict. Unfortunately for him, Andhra and Telangana gave a clear verdict to TDP and TRS respectively. Now he is not wanted in successor states. If he were to carve out some space, he has to figure out who is a villain in two states and declare war against the Homo Villainus. Like his brother he gave up war before it is fought and settled for a compromise for peace of mind. This was what he did in the press conference he addressed last Sunday. The press conference was lacking in many things- clarity, direction and politics. It clearly shows Pawan is beating a retreat for his early position Homo Heroicus in movie land . Why?

French Social Psychologist Sergi Moscovici talks of Social Representations. Social representation is the meaning you develop to negotiate with the society. Each person possesses multiple representations. Depending upon the context, one representation becomes pronounced collapsing all others. It is difficult to strike a balance, this was exactly Pawan Kalyan did in the press conference and failed. Pawan Kalyan is a bundle of contradictory social representations. He is caught in the web of these representations. To become a political leader, he has to disentangle himself from this web and come out with one clear social representation. Given his predicament it is impossible. For example he has Kapu, Andhra, Telugu movie star and Hyderabadi social representations. If he attacks Naidu’s TDP government, it would be immediately construed as an attack on Kammas by Kapus- which is not advisable now. If he attacks KCR’s TRS government, he would dubbed as Andhra settler and physical attacks not ruled out.  If he questions phone tapping and supports section 8 being an Andhra his identity as a resident of Hyderabad would be in jeopardy. He can’t back Andhra farmers in capital zone nor can he bite TDP.  Similarly, he can’t criticize Telangana government and survive in Hyderabad. He beat a hasty retreat by advising both parties restraint. He did not touch cash-for-vote stating sub judice as it has two sides of Andhra and Telangana. Remaining as Pawan Kalyan, the movie star, is the best bet for the time being as he needs the support of both AP and TS fans. He chose a middle path and bought  peace with both sides. Probably this press conference might be end of the road for Pawan’s political dreams.
