The Supreme Court has delivered a significant relief to BRS leader and MLA Harish Rao in the controversial phone tapping case, dealing a clear setback to the Telangana government.
The apex court dismissed the petition filed by the state government seeking permission to question Harish Rao as part of the investigation. By doing so, the court upheld the earlier order of the Telangana High Court, which had already quashed the case against him on the grounds of insufficient evidence.
The allegations were linked to the previous BRS government and claimed that illegal phone surveillance was carried out during Harish Rao’s tenure as a minister. However, both the High Court and now the Supreme Court found no legal basis to proceed against him.
With this ruling, Harish Rao cannot be subjected to questioning in the case unless new and credible evidence emerges in the future. The decision is being seen as a major moment in the ongoing political and legal discourse in Telangana, with the courts clearly signaling that investigations must rest on solid proof, not speculation.
