The buyers of War 2 and Coolie are likely to incur heavy losses as the collections of both films witnessed a downward spiral on weekdays which hint that the box office run might be coming to an end very soon. While War 2 might result in more than 50 percent losses for trade circles, Coolie is likely to result in a loss of around 25 percent of the investment for its buyers.
After taking a strong start with over 150 Crores gross, Coolie couldn’t maintain the momentum during the crucial holiday weekend. However, it managed to rake in close to 400 Crores gross worldwide until Monday, thanks to the sensational reception in Overseas territories due to Rajinikanth’s stardom. However, the Tuesday numbers are very dismal and point to a disastrous performance in the days to come which means that the theatrical run might come to an end sooner, resulting in a recovery of less than 75 percent.
Meanwhile, War 2 witnessed a further plunge in the collections on Tuesday and showed no signs of revival any further. The film failed to cross double digit net from all languages and proved that word of mouth is very crucial for a film to sustain on Weekdays despite having huge star cast and massive craze for a franchise film. The action drama saw a huge fall in the collections all over Hindi circuits which was the only territory where it performed on a decent note from the opening day. The Telugu collections are very embarrassing with the total gross on Monday and Tuesday failing to cross even 5 Crores.
Both War 2 and Coolie were sold for exorbitant prices in all areas because of the terrific pre-release craze in audiences and trade circles. Also, the fact that both films got Independence Day holiday and long weekend advantage turned out to be a selling point for the makers to quote high prices for theatrical rights. Unfortunately, poor content ultimately led to the downfall as both films managed just below par reviews. Coolie outperformed War 2 in most of the areas. But, that’s not sufficient to cross the line even as War 2 lost the break even race even before the start of Monday.
