It was Kolkata-based acclaimed fashion designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee’s Bengal Tiger sari that Deepika Padukone dazzled in as she walked the red carpet on the opening night of the Cannes Film Festival on Tuesday.

The sari, which the actress and Cannes jury member paired with a black strapless blouse, stood out because of its golden and black stripes, inspired by the big cat after which the collection is named. Earlier during the day, she had appeared for the jury photocall also in a Sabyasachi ensemble of lime green pants and jaunty shirt.

As was to be expected, the ecstatic designer took to his Instagram handle to announce this fact to the world and say that the sari was a part of his Akash Tara collection, which celebrates heritage Indian crafts and techniques seen through a modern lens.

“The blocks have been block printed and hand embroidered by some of India’s finest craftspeople at the Sabyasachi atelier,” the designer announced.

Deepika paired the sari with a bejewelled headband from Sabyasachi Jewellery’s Royal Bengal collection. “The headband,” the designer explained, “pays homage to the traditional Indian ‘matha patti’ headpiece with Art Noveau detailing, while the chandelier earrings updates a classic with an Art Noveau gaze.”

The actress rounded off her retro look with bold and black eyeliner, black manicure, nude lips and a hair bun.

The post begins with a telling quote from Sabyasachi: “The sari is a story I will never stop telling. No matter where we are in the world, it has its place.”

Deepika Padukone’s Gehraiyaan Movie Review

Top actress Deepika Padukone’s next film Gehraiyaan skipped the theatrical release and is now available to watch on Amazon Prime. The trailer and the songs caught everyone’s attention because of the breezy romance and the intimate scenes between the lead actors. As the trailer hints, Gehraiyaan is all about love, lust, trust and how the lead actors land into a complex relationship ignoring or cheating their partner. Intimacy is the major USP of the film. Here is the review of Gehraiyaan:

Plot:

Gehraiyaan is the story of Alisha Khanna (Deepika Padukone) who is a yoga instructor and is in a strained relationship with a writer Karan Arora (Dhairya Karwa). Taking a break, she meets her cousin Tia (Ananya Pandey) and in a surprise, Alisha falls for Tia’s fiance Zain Siddiqui (Sidddhant Chaturvedi). The rest of Gehraiyaan is all about the complications that arise in this relationship and what happens next.

The characterizations are well penned and narrated. The performances are a treat and the entire film is shot across some unexplored locales of Goa. There is sensuous and realistic romance in the film and the technical aspects throughout the film stand out. The emotional content in the last half an hour is the film’s major highlight. Gehraiyaan sounds flat for those who are not ready to explore deeply about emotional relationships. The film also delivers a strong message which makes the audience convincing.

Deepika Padukone is a treat to watch and she just gave her best. All her emotions are clearly visible in her eyes. She dominates the film and her co-stars completely. Siddhant has a great screen presence and competes well with Deepika. Ananya Pandey does her part well and Dhairya Karwa is good in his role. Naseeruddin Shah is good in a limited role. All the other actors have done their part well.

Verdict:

Gehraiyaan is a beautiful emotional and romantic tale that may not appeal to everyone. Deepika Padukone’s performance, sensible writing and sensuous romance are the film’s highlights.

Bollywood star Deepika Padukone has posted a motley of pictures from her badminton session with world champion P.V. Sindhu.

The pictures have left social media users wondering if a biopic is being made on Sindhu.

Deepika posted the set of pictures on Instagram. In the images, the two are seen playing an intense game of badminton on an indoor court.

“Just a regular day in my life…Burning calories with @pvsindhu1!” the actress, who is the daughter of former badminton player Prakash Padukone, captioned the image.

The picture currently has 1.9 million likes. Deepika’s husband and actor Ranveer Singh dropped a comment on the photograph.

He wrote: “MAJOR FOMO ATTACK!”

Many social media users reacted to the picture on the comment section.
