Guntur youth deceives girls, marries five

A youth from Guntur district cheated five girls and married them all, by telling them that he is a software employee in the US. He cheated all the five and was finally landed in the police net on Thursday.

According to the Guntur police, Krosuri Satish Babu of Palnadu district married Sri Lakshmi of Guntur town in June this year. He told her and the in-laws that he is a software employee in the US and convinced them for the marriage.

After the marriage, he demanded Rs 80 lakh from the in-laws and threatened to leak the bedroom videos and photos on the internet. Sri Lakshmi noticed him chatting with other women when he was with her.

Following his blackmailing demands, she suspected something fishy and lodged a complaint with the Disha police in Guntur.

The police found that there were already two complaints against him in the past in the same police station. On learning this, the police laid a trap and caught him and his father in the town.

The police said that the youth married a girl from Visakhapatnam in 2005 first and another girl in the US in 2014. He divorced his first wife in 2017 and married another girl from Narasaraopet in the same year. She lodged a complaint with the police as she had some differences with Satish Babu.

In 2019, Satish Babu married another girl from Nellore and Sri Lakshmi from Guntur in June this year.

Are YSRCP MLAs in Guntur scoring self goals?

Are the YSRCP MLAs in Guntur district scoring self-goats? Are they, in their over enthusiasm to look pro-people, putting their own government to discomfiture? Are they doing things which will put the government in a spot? Those in the know say yes. They say the MLAs are actually ending up troubling their government.

In Guntur, the YSRCP has 15 of the 17 seats. One TDP MLA, Maddali Giri, is now with the YSRCP. With this kind of majority, they can have their way in the ZP council. However, the MLAs are bringing in resolutions that will put their own government in trouble. Recently, the MLAs brought a resolution demanding the estimation of the mirchi crop damage and payment of compensation.

The officials warned the MLAs not to bring such a resolution as the AP Government, which is led by their own party, will have to pay the compensation. To avoid a tricky situation, the officials informed the agriculture commissioner, who tried to counsel the MLAs in vain. So, the officials avoided attending the meet. One joint collector cited Covid symptoms as an alibi, while two others did not even bother to respond. The collector cited prior engagements as the reason for skipping the meeting to avoid embarrassment to the state government.

Even Home Minister Mekathoti Sucharitha raised the issue of the absence of key officials. Only low level officials were present. The officials say that a resolution in the ZP would mean that the opposition would use this as a tool to put the government in a spot. But, the YSRCP MLAs are not looking at the larger picture and are trying to play the gallery. Their efforts, the officials feel, will only leave the government embarrassed. This is nothing but scoring a self-goal, they said.

Video journalists attacked by followers of Bhuma in Guntur

Chiranjeevi continues to stay behind the scenes in politics

Congress launched “praja poru” in Tirupati demanding Special Category status for the state in August 2015. That was perhaps the last time Megastar Chiranjeevi was seen last time demanding SCS to the state. It took some time for AP SCS to become a sentiment for the people of AP. Evidently congress which conferred SCS would try to make the most out of it. Almost after two years now, Congress organized a massive program in Guntur for SCS which was attended by who’s who of Congress on Sunday. Instead of Chiranjeevi, this time his brother Pawan Kalyan extended support to Congress rally.

It has become a routine for the Rajya Sabha member of the party to avoid all the meetings organised by APCC. Initially Chiranjeevi stated that he was busy with 150th film and later sited personal reasons. Speculations are rife that the Tollywood actor is going to say goodbye to the Congress especially because Kalyan is gaining momentum in politics. But the former Tourism minister responding to such allegations said that he will remain loyal to congress.

The actor turned politician neither attended SCS discussion in Rajya Sabha nor in Guntur. Congress doesn’t need a passive leader but needs a star campaigner. If only Chiranjeevi takes active part, at least for SCS which was given in his presence, it will be beneficial not only for his party but also for his dormant political career.

It may be noted that from the time his brother’s Jana Sena Party has become vigorous, Chiranjeevi remained mute spectator. His political future is uncertain particularly with Jana Sena appearing to emerge as strong political force. It is apparent that the megastar prefers to be on screen in movies but will likely remain behind the scenes in real politics.

Rahul Gandhi assures AP SCS if voted to power in 2019

AICC Vice President Rahul Gandhi speaking at the Pratyeka Hoda Barosa Sabha in Guntur on Sunday critiqued the Prime Minister Narendra Modi for going back on Special category status (SCS) promise given in Tirupati. “Modi failed to fulfil the assurance given in the holy place of God? How can such a person preserve Hindu Dharma?”

Gandhi said that SCS which is needed for integral development of AP, was not given by Man Mohan Singh but by the then Prime Minister of India. He asserted that SCS is not a gift but the right of the citizens of the state. The Member of Parliament from Amethi aforesaid that leaders of other states like Akhilesh Yadav and Sharad Yadav have come in support for SCS, but the local leaders failed to join the protest. He alleged that both the Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and Opposition Leader Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy are afraid of Modi.

Gandhi said that the center would give 90 percent funding to the SCS states. He affirmed that priority will be given to AP and vowed that when Congress comes to power in 2019 elections and the first file to ink is AP SCS.

Bihar MP Sharad Yadav and Gandhi critiqued the Modi’s government failed to fulfil its commitments of providing 2 crore jobs.

Speaking on the occasion CPI national leader Suravaram Sudhakar Reddy said that the Chief Minister should take all party to the center and demand for special status. Reddy said that SCS is not a closed chapter but will remain open until it is granted

Former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Akhilesh Yadav in his first visit to the state, said that not only special package but also special status should be given. He further said looking at the enthusiasm of people, he wants to leave UP and come to Andhra Pradesh. He asked AP to utilise the Presidential elections to mount pressure on the center

APCC chief Raghuveera Reddy said that they will continue the movement until AP is bestowed with SCS.

Andhra will get Special Status if Cong voted to power : Rahul Gandhi to promise in Guntur !

After his visit to Telangana earlier this week, Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi will visit Andhra Pradesh on Sunday to address a public meeting in Guntur near here on the demand for special category status to the state.

Gandhi will promise the special category status to Andhra Pradesh if the party is voted to power in the 2019 assembly elections.

At the public meeting, the Congress leader will also likely come down heavily on the Telugu Desam Party-Bharatiya Janata Party coalition in the state for going back on their poll promise to accord the special status to Andhra Pradesh.

Janata Dal-United leader Sharad Yadav, Communist Party of India national Secretary S. Sudhakar Reddy, and Samajwadi Party leader and former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav will address the rally, state Congress chief Raghuveera Reddy said.

The Congress has also invited YSR Congress Party chief Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy and actor-politician Pawan Kalyan to the meeting.

It will be the first major public meeting to be addressed by a national Congress leader in Andhra Pradesh since 2014, when the party was wiped out in the simultaneous elections to the assembly and Lok Sabha.

Blamed for the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh, the Congress faced the worst rout in its former stronghold as it could not win even a single assembly or Lok Sabha seat in the state.

Rahul Gandhi had visited the state in 2015 but it was confined to a ‘padyatra’ in Anantapur district to highlight the problems of farmers and women.

During the debate on the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Bill in Parliament, the then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had promised the special status to Andhra Pradesh for five years.

Both the BJP and TDP, during the 2014 elections, had promised the special status for 10 years.

The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance government at the Centre, however, has ruled out the special status, citing a report of the 14th Finance Commission, which states that no state other than north-eastern and hilly states could be given this status.

The Centre last year announced a special package, instead of special status, for Andhra Pradesh.

Since then, the BJP-TDP alliance has been facing criticism from opposition and other organisations.

Rahul Gandhi’s public meeting in Sangareddy in Telangana on Thursday drew huge public response, even beyond the party’s own expectations. This was the first major show of strength by the Congress in three years in Telangana.

The Congress leader targeted Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao for perpetrating ‘family rule’ and for failing to fulfil the dreams and aspirations of the people of Telangana.

Rahul, Akhilesh to Attend Public Rally in Guntur on Sunday

Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi, ex-Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav and a host of other leaders will attend a public meeting at Guntur on Sunday to “expose” the TDP and the BJP.

National leaders like Rahul Gandhi, Akhilesh Yadav, JDU leader Sharad Yadav, CPI general secretary Suravaram Sudhakar Reddy, secretary D Raja and others from parties like Trinamool Congress will attend the public meeting, said PCC president N Raghuveera Reddy.

“The TDP and the BJP have taken a complete U-turn after promising SCS for not less than ten years. We want to expose that and also build confidence among people that we are with them on the SCS issue,” said Reddy.

Being organised by the AP Congress Committee, the ‘Pratyeka Hoda Bharosa Sabha’ (confidence-building meeting on special category status) is seen as the party’s desperate effort to rise from the ashes in the state, where it was literally buried in the 2014 elections by the electorate, seething over the bifurcation.

It will be Rahul’s second visit to AP since 2014, after his rather ineffective trip to Anantapuramu district in 2015 for a farmers’ rally.

“(AP CM) Chandrababu Naidu surrendered the state’s interests to the Centre only to save himself from the criminal cases against him. Hence, he is cheating the people on SCS by claiming that the special economic package is much better,” alleged PCC secretary and former minister S Sailajanath.

“Leaders of various national parties will pledge support to AP’s cause, at the public meeting in Guntur tomorrow,” Sailajanath added.

Rayapati writes to APCM seeking TTD chairman post

Guntur: Narasaraopet MP Rayapati Sambasiva Rao, dashed off a letter to Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, offering to quit the Parliament if that was coming in the way of his appointment as the next chairman of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD). The term of the present board headed by Chadalavada Krishna Murthy expired on April 30, giving a chance to the government to constitute the Board afresh.

Rayapati, who had been unsuccessfully trying for the TTD chairman post for more than two decades, had finally decided to try his luck this time. He lobbied hard during the Congress regime in the past, particularly between 2004 and 2014 but could not make it. Having switched over to the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) during the 2014 elections and had won from Narasaraopet Lok Sabha Constituency, Rayapati, the strong man of Guntur politics, is mounting pressure on the Chief Minister for the prime slot. He is locked in a tough competition with Rajamahendravaram MP M Murali Mohan this time. Murali Mohan is a known associate of Chandrababu Naidu and is a leading investor in the real estate sector, besides a senior actor and producer in the Tollywood. It is to be seen how Rayapati would make it to the Board at least now as, according to him, this is the last chance for him to try.

The State government had appointed senior IAS officer Anil Kumar Singhal as the executive officer of the TTD in the place of D Sambasiva Rao. Singhal is the first non-Telugu bureaucrat to be made the TTD chief. Having changed the bureaucratic placement in the TTD, the task before the Chief Minister is now to constitute the TTD Board. Sources said that Chandrababu Naidu is in favour of continuing the membership of Tollywood director K Raghavendra Rao and Infosys founder Sudha for another term. He is said to be thinking of filling the Board this time with the leaders from the Rayalaseema region as that would help the TDP in the next elections.

Jagan picks up Guntur once again for his deeksha

Guntur: Opposition leader and YSR Congress president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy had once again picked up Guntur for his protest. This time again for two days and it would be to highlight the issues of the farmers and the failures of the government. He would be on the two-day protest from April 26.

The farmers of mangoes, chillies, turmeric green gram have been facing severe crisis with the prices falling alarmingly this year. While the green gram crop is totally lost in several parts of the State pushing the farmers into deep crisis, the prices of chillies, turmeric and even mangoes have come down by two to three times when compared with the previous year. In addition to this the farmers across the State have been facing severe drought. The State government had declared 301 revenue mandals drought hit and had sent proposals to the Center for financial support. Taking all these factors, and also the loan waiver issue, into consideration, Jaganmohan Reddy would be on a two-day protest.

Earlier, Jaganmohan Reddy had held a similar protest in Guntur on September 26, 2015 against the delay in announcing Special Category Status to the State. In October same year, he held a protest in Guntur against the RTC tariff hike. This time he is planning for a two-day protest and the venue is likely to be the Mirchi Yard area on the outskirts of Guntur.

While the reasons he had chosen to protest are political, there is a strategic plan to decide on Guntur as venue for his protests. As the capital, Amaravati, is located between Vijayawada and Guntur, the area has less grip for Jaganmohan Reddy on the social combination. The Amaravati is dominated by the Kamma community that owns the ruling Telugu Desam Party and it would be next to impossible for Jaganmohan Reddy to capture it politically. However, as politician, it is not wise to lose the capital though he has no base or low base. The advantage for him is the Tadepalli mandal, which is part of the capital and it is here Jaganmohan Reddy is relocating his residence and party office, because of the presence of Reddy community. The mandal is predominantly held by the Reddy community which is the reason for Jaganmohan Reddy to feel comfortable. In Guntur district, the Reddy community is strong in the Palnadu region. If ruling TDP feels it is comfortable in Amaravati with the Kamma community playing a dominant role, the YSR Congress is placed comfortably on the outskirts of the capital. It is for this reason, Jaganmohan Reddy is holding protest in Guntur and is believed to have decided to make it as his base to hit at the ruling TDP.

Chandrababu to felicitate farmers of 29 villages

It is a known fact that hundreds of farmers belonging to different villages in Guntur district have donated their cultivation lands for the new capital of Andhra Pradesh, Amaravathi. Though all the opposition parties are protesting against the government for grabbing lands from farmers forcibly, the chief minister N. Chandrababu Naidu feels that the farmers should get their due respect.

If the sources are to be believed, the CM in a recent review meeting decided to felicitate all the farmers of 29 villages who have sacrificed their lands for capital region.

This felicitation ceremony will be held in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on October 22 at the massive foundation laying ceremony.

Babu and his cabinet is all set to make the ceremony a big success and working real hard to make it a historic event.

The CM himself is monitoring all the arrangements and is calling for regular review meetings with CRDA officials and his cabinet colleagues.

According to sources, Babu has formed four committees namely Organising Committee, Reception Committee, Venue Committee and Cultural/Media Committee to take care of all the arrangements of this state event.

He made party MPs, legislators and other officials to head these committees.

The CM has already invited many national and international personalities to this ceremony.

Jagan to launch fast from October 7

YSRC party president and Opposition leader YS Jaganmohan Reddy will launch his indefinite fast from October 7 from Guntur. The party decided on the date today and it was announced by party senior leader Botcha Satyanarayana today. “Our party delegation will meet the police officials to submit the fresh proposal on Jaganmohan Reddy’s fast. We are suggesting an alternative place as well. We are hopeful that the officials will permit the fast in the new place. We have changed the venue as per the advice of the Police senior officials,” Botcha said.

Jagan rescheduled his fast ,which was to start from today, in the ground opposite AC College in Guntur. But, police denied permission stating that the program would affect the traffic as the venue was in close proximity to the hospital and educational institutions. Police also cited the possible disturbance the fast program would cause to the Ganesh Nimajjnam Yatra.

They suggest some alternate veune. Unhappy at the police decision, the party tried to move House Motion yesterday, but the court asked the party to come with regular petition on Monday as Friday being holiday on account of Bakrid. “But, in the interest of state and people we climbed down from out decision not to file the petition against the police decision in High Court. Police suggested us to choose an alternative venue. Our delegation is meeting the police today with alternative venue for October 7 fast,” Botcha said.

” We did not hesitate to relax from our stand as for us special status is important. Jobs for students and youth is our objective. Development of the state is our aim. So, we have no objection to submit our letter to the police with a new venue,” Botcha said.

Dismissing the argument that indefinite fast was not permissible by law, Botcha said it was universally acknowledged form of agitation from ages. If it was not permissible, India would not have achieved Independence and Andhra separat state. Our freedom and Andhr state were the result of the fast undertaken by Mahatma Gandhi and Potti Sriramulu,” Botcha said adding that ,”come what may,
Jagan will not call off his indefinite fast.”

Jagan fast deferred; YSRCP to move court Monday

The opposition YSR Congress Party has postponed the proposed indefinite fast by president YS Jaganmohan Reddy, which was to commence from Saturday from Guntur. The fast is meant to exert pressure on the centre to bestow special status on Andhra Pradesh as assured by the governments- both UPA and NDA. The deeksha is the first step to launch a Telangana like movement for the special status and against TDP governments for its failure to get the special status announced by the NDA government in which it was a partner. The YSRC political advisory committee, which met here, in the backdrop of the denial of permission by Guntur police and Hyderabad High Court’s refusal to hear the House Motion, decided to put off the fast for some time. While refusing to entertain the House Motion on Friday, a Holiday, the court advised the party to file a regular petition.

“We will file the petition in court on Monday. Chandrababu Naidu himself has gone on fast at Delhi and also at MLA quarters and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa went on a hunger strike on the Cauvery water issue. We have full faith in judiciary and the fast will be taken up once we get a clearance from the court. Till such a date, the indefinite fast stands postponed,” YSRC deputy floor leader in the Assembly P Ramachandra Reddy said. The party will announce the fresh date for the deeksha and the course of action depending upon the orders from the court.

Putting the chief minister Naidu’s government on notice, Jagan announced on the floor of the House that he would sit on indefinite fast if Naidu failed to get the special status accorded to the state in 15 days. First it was decided to take up the Deeksha from second week. Later because of Vinakayaka Chavithi and Bakrid it was postponed to September 26. But, citing possible dislocation the Deeksha would cause to the traffic and Ganesh Nimajjan procesion, Guntur police denied permission.

Finally, AP finds shelter in Rain Tree Park, Guntur

At last, Andhra Pradesh government appears to have found shelter in Rain Tree Park, opposite Acharya Nagarjuna University, Guntur to accommodate its ministers and many senior officers. According to sources, an agreement has been reached with the owners of the complex to make 245 flats and 26 villas available by November 1.The road to Rain Tree park has been paved by social welfare minister Ravela Kishore Babu. He was the first minister to locate a flat in the complex. According to sources, government has agreed to pay the rent at the rate of Rs 11 per sq ft. As per the agreement reached, the complex will be leased out for government for two years. There will be an increase of 5 per cent rent every year.

After Naidu shifted to river front bungalow near Vijayawada, pressure to relocate themselves to Vijayawada or Guntur has been mounting on the minister. As the chief minister has started operating most of the time from Vijayawada, the ministers now feel compelled to shift to Guntur. The result is the agreement with Rain Tree Park.

This is going to put enormous financial burden on the government. The present lease will cost Rs 5.5 crore per year to state. ” The chief minister is aware of the burden. But when the lofty goal of taking the administration to the door steps of the people, burden should not deter us,” Ravela said. According to Ravela, by Sankranti, Andhra Pradesh government will be fully functional from the temporary capital.

He expressed hope that the government could persuade employees also by announcing a package and addressing their concerns.

V’wada and Vizag metros to be ready by 2018

Even though the population is below viable level in Vijayawada and Vizag, centre is ready to give go ahead for the construction of metro rails for the two cities. On Saturday Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) submitted the detailed project report (DPR) to the state government. DMRC advisor Sridharan delivered a copy of the DPR each to chief minister Chandrababu Naidu and union urban development minister Venkaiah Naidu today in Vijayawada. Later, Andhra Pradesh has decided to entrust construction of the two metros to DMRC. For the time being, Guntur metro has been put on hold.

Talking to media chief minister Naidu announced that these two projects had been fast tracked and will be completed as per the schedule. “Vijayawada works will begin any time and project will be completed by 2018,” he said. Union minister Venkaiah Naidu said there won’t be any problem for Vizag as the population might have reached 20 lakh by now. ” As per the 2011 census Vizag population was 17 lakh. As the city has recorded 2.85 pc growth rate, by this time the population must have reached to 20 lakh by now,” he said.

Similarly, he said, Vijayawada metro had been permitted without sticking to the population norm as it is the capital city. He said Vijayawada DPR had already been approved by the Andhra Pradesh government which letter sent it for centre’s approval. “Centre has also cleared the project and it is being posed for international aid,”Venkaiah said.

The 26.03 km long Vijayawada metro will be taken up at a cost of Rs 6769 crore while the 42.55 km Vizag metro needs Rs 12727 crore. Venkaiah hoped that Vijayawada and Vizag projects would be completed by 2018 . He appreciated the CM for fast tracking these projects.

Chief minister said a special purpose vehicle (SPV) would be set up with union government, Andhra Pradesh government and financiers soon.

Unsafe in Hyd, Lokesh to shift base to Guntur

TDP is leadership is reportedly finding Hyderabad unsafe for Chandrababu Naidu’s heir apparent, Lokesh Naidu, and is planning to relocate Lokesh’s operational base to Guntur.

This is general feeling among many leaders in TDP. Lokesh, who of late has made it habit to tickle Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrababu Naidu in Twitter, may attract the wrath of the latter and even trigger a retaliation in one way or the other.

Already there has been talk that the junior Naidu would be implicated in the cash-for-vote scam.

“As Hyderabad is in the administrative control of TRS government, a sting operation or some conspiracy involving Lokesh can’t be ruled by T-government. T-  state appears to be hell bent on defaming CM Naidu and Lokesh Naidu to drive them out of Hyderabad city. It is not without base if TDP leadership perceives some threat to Lokesh in Hyderabad,” said a TDP functionary.

Chief minister Naidu is expected to rejig the party structure soon in order to give bigger responsibility to Lokesh.

Lokesh, now coordinator of TDP Workers Welfare Fund, will have a bigger say in the party affairs of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

“Guntur is safest place of Lokesh as it falls in the territorail Jurisdiction of Andhra Pradesh. He will be spending three to four days in Guntur and devote rest of the days of week to tours. That way he will hardly be staying in Hyderabad out of bounds for T-agencies,” sources in TDP said.

To facilitate Lokesh’s operation from Guntur, party is setting up its AP’s headquarters in Guntur. Party’s district office located in Guntur will be upgraded as state party office. Once the arrangement are done, Lokesh base will relocated to Guntur,” the sources added.
