Ramatheertham to be inaugurated in Jan after Rs 3 cr reconstruction

1

Andhra Pradesh Endowments Minister Vellampalli Srinivas on Wednesday assured that the Ramatheertham Temple, being reconstructed at a cost of Rs 3 crore, will be inaugurated in January 2022.

“We are procuring the material required for the construction of the hill temple and are making arrangements to complete it by the appointed time,” he said.

According to the minister, the reconstruction will comply with ‘Agamasastra’, following consultations with priests and seers, without hurting the sentiments of devotees.

He said stonecutters from Chilakaluripeta will be roped in for the reconstruction as Ramatheertham is being planned to be a fully stone structure.

Srinivas also released a model of the forthcoming temple.

The minister was accompanied by MP Bellana Chandrasekhar and MLA Badukonda Appalanaidu during his visit to the temple, where he also worshipped the deity.

In December 2020, Lord Ram’s idol in the temple was decapitated and dumped in a water body beside the temple by some unknown miscreants, leading to a major controversy as similar such incidents occurred earlier as well.

Following these incidents, police increased security and installed surveillance cameras at several temples in the state.

“We strengthened security at all the temples in the state and placed them under CCTV camera surveillance. We are deploying modern technology for temples’ security,” Srinivas added.

High Court cancels Jagan order on Ramatheertham

1

The High Court of Andhra Pradesh has revoked the AP Government’s order and reinstated Ashok Gajapati Raju as the hereditary trustee of the Ramatheertham temple. The latest order was given after hearing the petition filed by the former Union Minister against the ‘unjust’ order of the Jagan Reddy Government.
With regard to the temples, the Government has no authority to remove the temple trustees who are there by virtue of their hereditary rights. Despite this, Ashok Gajapati Raju was removed from his post after the recent vandalisation of the Rama idol at Ramatheertham.

The Government has taken this action saying that the trustee could not take sufficient action for the prevention of such incidents at the temple premises. In fact, the TDP has alleged that the removal of Ashok Gajapati Raju was part of the political vendetta that was going on in the State.
Whatever, it has become a routine that the Government would give orders against its adversaries without checking the rules and laws. On their part, all the affected leaders and parties were going to the courts and eventually getting the Government’s orders cancelled.

YSRCP’s remarks on Ramateertham ‘dangerous thinking’, alleges TDP

0

Telugu Desam Party (TDP) national president and principal opposition leader in Andhra Pradesh, N. Chandrababu Naidu, on Thursday termed the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) government’s statements on the Ramateertham issue as ‘dangerous thinking’.

He said the government is allegedly doing this with an ulterior motive to terrify and suppress the voice of the opposition cadres and the general public.

In December last year, unidentified miscreants had cut off the head of the Lord Ram’s idol at the Ramateertham hilltop temple in Nellimarla village in Vizianagaram district, which triggered a massive controversy with the opposition parties accusing the ruling party of allegedly ignoring the temples’ safety and security.

Naidu also condemned the arrest of party member Kala Venkatrao on Wednesday, asserting that he was a non-controversial leader with 40 years of experience.

“The government’s attitude is dangerous as it wants all the opponents to either kill themselves or get killed by criminals under suspicious circumstances,” Naidu claimed.

Training his guns on the police department, the TDP supremo demanded that Director General of Police (DGP) Gautam Sawang should explain what crime did Venkatrao commit.

“False cases have been filed against TDP leaders in the name of attack on an MP’s car. The DGP should explain why no preventive steps are taken nor any cases are filed against the YSRCP MP,” Naidu said.

He added that it is high time for Sawang to follow the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and safeguard the rights of the people, and not follow the ‘Jagan Reddy Penal Code’.

“If the DGP cannot overcome pressure from the ruling YSRCP leaders to implement the rule of law, he should resign and go home. The government is just daydreaming that the TDP leaders could be suppressed with fabricated cases and false arrests,” the former Chief Minister said.

Naidu also claimed that there is no proper response from the CM or the DGP despite the sawing away of Lord Ram’s idols and 150 alleged temple attacks.

“The DGP should at least respect his uniform. Otherwise he should quit expressing his inability to stop the atrocities,” Naidu said.

Meanwhile, the opposition leader welcomed the high court order to conduct rural local body elections and said that the YSRCP leaders should realise that judges may change, but justice will remain.

“They resorted to election irregularities which is why 27 per cent unanimous results were seen in the MPTC and ZPTC elections. The fake CM and his party leaders are trying to use rowdyism to terrify and suppress all sections of voters,” Naidu alleged.

He also asked Sawang how permission to the ‘dharma parirakshana yatra’ could be cancelled on Thursday after granting it on Wednesday.

Currently, a huge controversy is raging in the southern state over the alleged attacks on temples. While the YSRCP is blaming the TDP for these incidents, the latter is accusing the YSRCP of not protecting the temples and being lax about their safety.

Several alleged temples attack cases have emerged in the past six months, compelling the government to form a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to crack them.

The police are also focusing on people who are peddling fake news on temple attacks, resulting in some journalists and other social media users getting arrested for their alleged propaganda.

BJP fighting ‘epic battle’ with AP police at Ramatheertham

6

All small and top leaders of BJP AP unit landed in Vizianagaram for their ‘Dharma Yatra’ on the Ramatheertham idol desecration. The police also arrived there in double the number of BJP cadres. Very dramatically, the police refused permission to the BJP crowds to go to the hilltop temple.
BJP AP President Somu Veerraju raised the battle cry and pushed ahead through the police barricade. There was a lot of pushing and shoving between the BJP activists and the police. Veerraju had fainted in the process. Another state leader Vishnu Vardhan Reddy also fell down.
BJP national leader GVL Narasimha Rao had threatened to talk to Union Home Minister Amit Shah about the incident. GVL asked why the AP Government gave permission to the YCP and the TDP leaders to visit the Ramatheertham temple but not the BJP leaders.
Obviously, the BJP AP leaders were trying everything they could to take the Ramatheertham controversy to the next level. But questions are being asked whether the BJP leaders can beat the mind games of Jagan Reddy and Chandrababu Naidu in AP.

Pawan to do ‘Ramateertha Dharma Yatra’ on Jan 5th

3

The issue of damage to the Hindu Temple at Ramateertham and the government’s inability to catch and punish the culprits has become a major issue in AP as all political parties visited the place. The political heat intensified with the politicization of the issue. The latest news is that Janasena chief Pawan Kalyan is taking up ‘Ramateertha Yatra’ on 5th January and visit the place.

Janasena party released a letter in this regard and announced that this is going to be a combined program of BJP and Janasena. The announcement by the Janasena party media chief also found fault with Jagan’s government and YSRCP ministers for not taking any action against the culprits. Janasena party also lambasted the Endowment minister for letting these kinds of things happen and offend the emotions of devotees. The party reminded people about the centuries-old legacy of the temple at Ramateertham.

This tour of Janasena chief is expected to be a turning point in the politics of AP as the BJP-Janasena combo is just hitting at the Achilles heel of Jagan as religious matters have been a weak point of Jagan government and his party since the beginning.

Naidu calls Jagan a ‘betrayer of Hindus’

7

TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu launched a scathing attack on Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy. Mr. Naidu visited Ramatheertham temple where Rama idol was beheaded in Vizianagaram district. The TDP chief addressed a public meeting there when he accused the CM of posing multiple threats to the assets and idols of the temples with utter disrespect for the sentiments of the Hindu devotees in the State.

Mr. Naidu said that the Chief Minister has turned out to be a ‘betrayer of Hindus’ as not a single accused person was arrested so far in over 127 attacks that were made on temples, idols and priests in the past 19 months. ‘Jagan Reddy may be a Christian. But thinking to use power for converting Hindus is wrong. If people in power resort to religious conversions, it amounts to betrayal.’

Mr. Naidu said that he would usually stick to secular statements but could not spare Jaganmohan Reddy considering his utter disregard for the sentiments of other religions and their traditions. One should not show such religious intolerance. ‘Jai Shriram’ slogan was currently resounding in Ayodhya Rama Temple. Similarly, Ramatheertham Rama Temple has always been held in high respect in North Andhra. In such a temple, miscreants beheaded Rama statue but the Government was not taking any steps to catch the culprits.

Mr. Naidu demanded the CM to explain why he had not visited Ramatheertham to express solidarity with the Hindu devotees whose sentiments were badly hurt. Jaganmohan Reddy had his own personal religious sentiments. He would keep the Bible by his side during his swearing in. His palatial residence at Lotus Pond would carry a Cross image on it. But, it appeared that the CM was thinking that the Hindus would not deserve similar sentiments. He should realise that the beheading of Rama statue was a great disgrace to the land.
Stating that all major temples came under attack, Mr. Naidu said that the ruling party middlemen had brought disrepute to Tirumala Temple with their mean and illegal activities. A YCP MLA would fly drones over the Tirumala sky where such an activity was banned. The ruling party leaders had brought in the culture of liquor drinking and meat eating also atop the Seven Hills. The Chief Minister himself would violate the traditions by not bringing his wife during the sacred clothes presentation to the Lord.

The TDP chief deplored that lands and assets were donated to temples for the sake of protecting the Hindu dharma. The Gajapathi Raju family donated 12,000 acres for Simhachalam temple and those lands were worth Rs. 5 Cr to Rs 10 Cr per acre now. The YCP leaders had set their sights on these lands. This was why Ashok Gajapthi Raju, who was known for his honesty and credibility, was removed from the Chairman post. The Jagan regime was busy with the twin tasks of desecrating temples and looting their assets.

Mr. Naidu told the CM that his Government had no right to take away the lands that Hindu devotees donated to the temples over the centuries. The police were behaving irresponsibly and they were filing false cases. Once the TDP would come to power, all these cases would reopen and stringent punishment would be given to the erring police. Even in respect of the Ramatheertham idol beheading incident, the police acted high handedly and allowed only MP Vijay Sai Reddy into the temple but not the priests.

High tension at Ramatheertham amid YCP-TDP-BJP protests

1

Ramatheertham temple area turned into a battle zone due to gathering of huge crowds there. Activists of YCP, TDP, BJP and Hindu organisations thronged the temple. Hindu devotees raised slogans Jai Sriram and protested against the YCP leaders for creating disturbances at the temple.

The BJP leaders turned angry at the police for blocking them from going to the temple while allowing YCP MP Vijay Sai Reddy and his party leaders. Unexpectedly, very huge crowds gathered at the temple in view of the visit of TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu. TDP activists kept raising slogans in favour of Mr. Naidu and against Vijay Sai Reddy visit.

At one time, the TDP activists turned angry and pelted chappals and stones at the Vijay Sai Reddy convoy. A windowpane was broken in the incident. The police found it difficult to manage the crowd. The arrival of Vijay Sai Reddy simultaneously with Mr. Naidu created disturbances at the temple premises.

The police also did not give permission to the BJP and Hindu leaders to go to the temple in view of Vijay Sai’s visit. They raised slogans in protest against the YCP on the occasion.

Vijay Sai desperate to embarrass Naidu over Ramatheertham

3

The Ramatheertham temple incident in Vizianagaram district became a hot subject of political controversy. The YCP has started using the untoward incidents at temples too to corner and embarrass the TDP. Already, Vijay Sai Reddy blamed Chandrababu and Lokesh for the desecration of Rama idol at Ramatheertham.

Now, Vijay Sai has given yet another big shock to Chandrababu. He has come out with a surprise last minute plan to visit Ramatheertham a few hours ahead of the TDP chief. Also, in the name of the idol disfiguring case, the police have arrested many local leaders of the TDP.

Vijay Sai Reddy’s aggressive stance on the temple incidents has put the TDP on the defensive. Tensions have risen following his visit to the temple on the same day Naidu has planned his visit. Till now, the YCP leaders have attacked the TDP leaders. However, the police are filing cases against the TDP leaders only. Even in Tadipatri, the police filed cases against JC Prabhakar Reddy whose house was attacked by the local YCP MLA.

Now, the TDP leaders were suspecting that the YCP has begun a new plan to book the TDP activists in the cases relating to vandalism of Hindu temples and idols. The arrested TDP Vizianagaram leaders were deploring that the police were forcing them to admit that they had desecrated Ramatheertham idol.
