Ram Charan saw ‘RRR’ for the first time with Rajamouli at 4 am in local theatre

Actor Ram Charan, whose song ‘Naatu Naatu’ from the historical fiction film ‘RRR’ recently bagged the Golden Globe for Best Original Song in a Motion Picture, recently revealed that he saw ‘RRR’ for the first time in theatre with director S. S. Rajamouli at 4 a.m. in a local theatre because none of the actors were allowed to watch the film before it was opened to the public.

Needless to say, the actor was bowled over by how the director put the film together with the editing and the spellbinding VFX.

Ram Charan told film critic David Poland, “My mind was blown and we never knew the same when we were shooting it”.

‘RRR’ is the second film on which Ram Charan and Rajamouli worked together, the first was ‘Magadheera’. Ram Charan said just like 14 years ago when his first film with Rajamouli was released, he watched ‘RRR’ too with the director at 4 a.m. in the local theatre. “We had the masks on because it was post pandemic, the cap and everything, but somehow I guess the audience figured out that it was me and my family because I was sitting next to the director”.

The actor also mentioned that ‘RRR’ was his 14th film and his 15th is on its way.

He further mentioned, “I am getting older and I plan to do two films a year. I have signed three films in 2023. For 2024, I have signed three films. I have six films under proposal”.

When asked about his challenging performances, the actor spoke about ‘Rangasthalam’. “I played a deaf character from a remote village. It was a great experience to learn the nuances of how a villager behaves who is also deaf,” he concluded.

Final Cut: 6 Indian films on Oscars ‘reminder list’ of 301 ‘eligible productions’

0

Six Indian feature films — the much-favoured ‘RRR’, India’s official entry ‘The Last Film Show’ (‘Chhello Show’), the sleeper hit ‘Kantara’, ‘The Kashmir Files’, ‘Gangubai Kathiyawadi’ and ‘Me Vasantrao’, the Marathi-language biopic on classical singer Vasantrao Deshpande — are on the list of 301 movies that are eligible for the 95th Oscars.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences unveiled the list on Monday (U.S. Pacific Time). It includes presumed contenders such as ‘Elvis’, ‘The Fabelmans’ and ‘Living’. The number of movies marks an increase from last year’s 276 films that were eligible from 2021, and down from 366 in 2020 at the height of the pandemic, reports ‘Variety’.

All these expected contenders are listed on the Academy’s annual Reminder List of Productions Eligible for the 95th Academy Awards, including the performers eligible for consideration in the acting categories.

The highest-grossing movies of the year, including ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’, ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ and ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ are on the robust list, while critically acclaimed features such as ‘The Banshees of Inisherin’, ‘Everything Everywhere All at Once’ and ‘Tar’ are also in the mix.

The streamers, ‘Variety’ continues, are well-represented with Netflix’s ‘All Quiet on the Western Front’ and ‘Glass Onion’, Amazon’s ‘Argentina, 1985’ and ‘Thirteen Lives’ and Apple’s ‘Cha Cha Real Smooth’ and ‘Emancipation’.

There’s also a good number of international features, even if they’re not their country’s official submission, such as ‘RRR’ and Hirokazu Kore-eda’s Korean drama ‘Broker’.

There is also a solid showing for women-directed vehicles such as Gina Prince-Bythewood’s ‘The Woman King’, Charlotte Wells’s ‘Aftersun’ and Sarah Polley’s ‘Women Talking’.

Not on the list is Kelly Reichardt’s ‘Showing Up’. ‘Variety’ notes that though it debuted at Cannes, A24, its makers, opted for a 2023 release. Despite being released theatrically in April, and receiving solid reviews, Mayim Bialik’s directorial debut ‘As They Made Us’ from Quiver also wasn’t among the 301 movies.

The Academy’s 9,579 eligible voting members will begin filling out their ballots on Thursday, January 12, at 9:00 a.m. (U.S. Pacific Time) and ballots will close on Tuesday, January 17 at 5:00 p.m.

The official Oscar nominations will be announced January 24, with the ceremony airing live on the American TV network ABC on March 12 from the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.

Fans mob Rajamouli, NTR Jr at ‘RRR’ screening in LA’s Chinese Theatre

1

Ahead of their appearance at the Golden Globe awards evening in Los Angeles, ‘RRR’ director S.S. Rajamouli and NTR Jr are soaking in the love and affection of their fans in the city.

On Monday night, both Rajamouli and Tollywood’s ‘Man of Masses’ NTR Jr attended the film’s screening at LA’s iconic TCL Chinese Theatre on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame, where he was cheered by fans.

The iconic Chinese Theatre, which houses one of the world’s biggest IMAX screens, witnessed an epic turnout of ‘RRR’ fans at the screening, whose tickets were sold out in 90 seconds.

NTR Jr was seen smiling and interacting with the swarms of fans who asked for selfies and chanted ‘Jai NTR!’. It was a historic moment for an Indian film at the century-old Chinese Theatre.

Rajamouli and NTR Jr arrived in New York a few days ago and attended a screening of ‘RRR’ followed by a reception at the DGA theatre. Early on Wednesday morning, India time, viewers in India will be able to see them at the Golden Globes.

The historical magnum opus has been nominated for Best Picture – Non-English and Best Original Song (for ‘Naatu Naatu’).

Following the awards event, NTR Jr will begin shooting for his upcoming NTR30, directed by Koratala Siva of ‘Janatha Garage’ fame. The film is due for theatrical release on April 5, 2024.

Hollywood producer Jason Blum says ‘RRR’ will win Oscar for best film

1

Hollywood producer Jason Blum is sure that Indian filmmaker S.S. Rajamouli’s magnum opus ‘RRR’ will be feted with the Best Film honour at this year’s Oscar awards.

The founder of Hollywood studio Blumhouse, who has produced Oscar-winning movies such as ‘Get Out’ and horror movies such as ‘Paranormal Activity’ and ‘Insidious’ took to Twitter and wrote: “I’m going with RRR winning best pic. You heard it here first. Mark it down, please.”

“If I’m right, I am awarding myself my own Oscar,” he added.

‘RRR’ stars NTR Jr., Ram Charan, Ajay Devgn, Alia Bhatt, Shriya Saran, Samuthirakani, Ray Stevenson, Alison Doody and Olivia Morris.

It centres around two real-life Indian revolutionaries, Alluri Sitarama Raju and Komaram Bheem, their fictional friendship and their fight against the British Raj.

Set in the 1920s, the plot explores the undocumented period in their lives when both the revolutionaries chose to go into obscurity before they began the fight for their country.

‘RRR’, ‘All That Breathes’ find a place each on BAFTA Film Awards long lists

1

After landing two Golden Globe nominations, making it to the Oscars long list and winning a handful of the early awards season trophies, ‘RRR’ is now one of the 10 films in the race for the prestigious BAFTA award in the ‘Film Not in the English Language’ category.

And it is not the only Indian contender to figure on the long lists, which were released on Friday night by the British Academy for Film and Television Arts (BAFTA). Delhi-based Shaunak Sen’s documentary, ‘All That Breathes’, is also on the long list in its category.

‘RRR’ is in competition with ‘All Quiet on the Western Front’, ‘Argentina, 1985’, ‘Bardo, False Chronicle of a Handful of Truths’, Cannes 2022 Grand Prix winner ‘Close’, ‘Corsage’, ‘Decision To Leave’ (which won Best Director for its helmer, Park Chan-wook), ‘EO’, ‘Holy Spider’, ‘The Quiet Girl’ and ‘RRR’.

The BAFTA Film Awards unveiled this year’s longlists for 24 categories, according to ‘Variety’, and in the lead are ]All Quiet on the Western Front’, Netflix’s World War I drama, with 15 nods and ‘The Banshees of Inisherin’ (Searchlight; starring Brendan Gleeson and Colin Farrell), which follows with 14.

A24’s ‘Everything Everywhere All At Once’ and the Warner Bros. film ‘Elvis’ have 12 longlist mentions apiece, even as the British sensation ‘Aftersun’ (also from A24), ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ and ‘Babylon’ (both from Paramount Picture) and the Cate Blanchett-starrer ‘Tar’ (Focus Pictures).

The longlists are based on votes from Round 1, which ended on December 30. These films will now all advance to the nominating stage of voting, which will run up to January 13, ‘Variety’ reports.

The final BAFTA nominations will be announced on January 19 at a live event and global livestream hosted by actors Hayley Attwell and Toheeb Jimoh. The awards ceremony will take place on Sunday, February 19, at the Southbank Centre’s Royal Festival Hall — a shift from the awards’ usual home of Royal Albert Hall, notes ‘Variety’.

‘RRR’ is the most-favoured international film on the US awards circuit today

With 32 critics’ and industry prizes handed out thus far, and Oscar nomination voting now less than 10 days away, ‘RRR’ is definitely in the reckoning on a slate of hopefuls where Steven Spielberg is one of the leading contenders with his semi-autobiographical ‘The Fabelmans’ and Cate Blanchett is locked in a riveting battle of nerves with Michelle Yeoh.

And the awards season is very much around, with the Palm Springs Film Festival kicking off later this week and the Golden Globes and Critics Choice Awards on their way to marking their first televised ceremonies of the season.

To find out who stands where, we turned to ‘Variety’, which has been tracking where the awards have gone so far. S.S. Rajamouli’s ‘RRR’, starring Ram Charan and Jr NTR, has won the most awards for Best International Feature (nine, compared with seven for the Korean ‘Decision to Leave’, which won for Park Chan-wook the Cannes 2022 Best Director award) and Best Original Score (by M.M. Keeravani, a.k.a. M.M. Kreem to Hindi cinema watchers) — four nods, behind the five won by ‘The Batman’ and ‘Babylon’ and above the three of ‘Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio’.

The irony, though, is that ‘RRR’ is not India’s official entry — it is Pan Nalin’s Gujarati film, ‘Chhello Show’ (Last Show) — but the Tollywood blockbuster’s American promoters, Variance Films, has included it in all award categories.

The leaders in the other main categories are:

Best Picture: ‘Everything Everywhere All at Once’ – 16

Best Director: The Daniels (Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert) for ‘Everything Everywhere All at Once’ – 16

Best Actor: Colin Farrell (‘The Banshees of Inisherin’) – 16; Brendan Fraser (‘The Whale’) – nine

Best Actress: Michelle Yeoh (‘Everything Everywhere All at Once’) – 15; Cate Blanchett (‘Tar’) – 11

Best Supporting Actor: Ke Huy Quan (‘Everything Everywhere All at Once’) – 24

Best Supporting Actress: Kerry Condon (‘The Banshees of Inisherin’) – nine

Original Screenplay: ‘The Banshees of Inisherin’ – 15; ‘Everything Everywhere All at Once’ – 10

Animated Feature: ‘Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio’ – 14; ‘Marcel the Shell with Shoes On’ – eight

Cinematography: ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ – 15

Film Editing: ‘Everything Everywhere All at Once’ – 10

The Oscars throw up real surprises every season and this year is not going to be any different. But this list of the leaders is indicative of how the people whose votes will determine who all will go home with the prized statuette, are thinking today.

Rajamouli hires an International Team

SS Rajamouli is one of the finest directors and he is a mastermind when it comes to promoting his film. Telugu360 was the first to break out the news that Rajamouli has been spending close to Rs 50 crores for the Oscar campaign for his recent release RRR and the entire money came from his own pockets. SS Rajamouli has hired an international team of promotional campaigners who are quite aggressive and are arranging screenings of RRR for the jury members of the Oscars. Rajamouli and RRR are nominated for several International award events in the recent weeks and this is a result of the campaign.

Rajamouli who chalks out a perfect plan has explained the same to the new PR team and they are executing it perfectly. The international distributor of RRR too has been quite supportive in this process. One may get puzzled or surprised why should Rajamouli spend huge money for this. He has a loud plan for it. RRR has the potential to win an Oscar predicts Rajamouli. Else, all the promotional campaigns would help the top director for his next film which will have Mahesh Babu in the lead role. Rajamouli is a genius in all these aspects. Hope the country’s best director would soon bring an Oscar for RRR.
