Over the past one week, media circles are abuzz with rumours regarding the postponement of Rajinikanth’s much anticipated science fiction thriller 2.0. The makers have earlier announced that the film will release on January 25, 2018. However, it has been widely speculated that the delay in CG work has prompted the makers to push the release date to Summer.

Now, Raju Mahalingam, the creative head of Lyca Productions responded to the ongoing rumours in media. He asserted that there is no change in the release date as of now and added that the team is working hard to wrap up the post production activities.

So, it looks like the film is on track for release on January 25 as announced earlier.

Directed by Shankar, the film has Akshay Kumar and Amy Jackson in important roles. The film will release in Telugu, Tamil and Hindi languages. AR Rahman composed the tunes.

Rajinikanth 2.0 release

It looks like the release of India’s costliest film, 2.0 is going to pushed again due to the delay in the post production activities. Starring Rajinikanth, Akshay Kumar and Amy Jackson, 2.0 was initially supposed to hit the screens in 2017, but the makers have decided to release it in January 2018 due to the delay in extensive CG and VFX works.

Now, the latest buzz in the industry circles is that the film’s release might be pushed to Summer next year as there is a lot of CG work to be done and it might not be completed by January. As of now, the makers are tight lipped about the postponement. We have to wait for an official confirmation on this news.

Directed by Shankar, 2.0 had its audio launch event in a grand style recently in Dubai. AR Rahman is the film’s composer.

Looks like Lyca Production house and creative team of director Shankar have many creative ideas, concepts to attain international attention for 2.0 film. Already making audio release event in Dubai spending 12 crores, filling airports and key places of Dubai city with huge hoarding of 2Point0 has created strong waves about the film. Now one more surprising act is made by #2.0 team in promoting the movie.

A daring act where three members from skydiving team have grabbed a huge banner indicating today audio launch event at above 10000 feet high is done in Dubai. Rajinikanth 2.0 Overseas rights

Superstar Rajinikanth starrer 2.0, a follow up to the 2010 smash hit Robot, is easily the most awaited tentpole film in 2019. Directed by hitmaker Shankar, 2.0 is believed to be the most expensive Indian film till date. It also features Bollywood star Akshay Kumar and British model turned actress Amy Jackson in pivotal roles. The producers of 2.0 have already recouped a part of its budget when the satellite rights were sold to Zee Network a few months ago for a record setting 110 Crores.

Now, it is reliably learnt that the producer is eyeing a massive deal through the film’s overseas rights. Reportedly, the overseas theatrical rights of both Telugu and Tamil versions are quoted for a mind boggling 105 Crores. This is an unprecedented price and if the deal is closed, it will the biggest ever overseas deal for an Indian cinema by surpassing the previous record set by SS Rajamouli’s Baahubali 2.

Given the fact that Enthiran( Robot), which released in 2010, notched up a gross of $ 12M in overseas, the Shankar – Rajinikanth combo is likely to pull off unprecedented pre release deals with 2.0 in all areas across the globe.

The film , which has its music score by AR Rahman, will hit the screens in January next year. Lyca Productions Banner is bankrolling the film.

Filmmaker S. Shankar, here with the team of his 3D sci-fi entertainer “2.0” for a grand audio launch, says he wants it to be known as an Indian film instead of a Tamil project.

The team — including Shankar, megastar Rajinikanth, Bollywood star Akshay Kumar, Oscar winning composer A.R. Rahman, actress Amy Jackson and producer Allirajah Subaskaran of Lyca Productions — came in helicopters for a press meet at the Burj Al Arab.

Akshay was asked how excited he is about making his Tamil foray and that too as an anti-hero. But before he could answer, Shankar responded: “I would like to say it’s not a Tamil film, it’s an Indian film”.

It led to a loud round of applause for the filmmaker, known for movies like “Sivaji: The Boss” and “I”.

Then, Akshay, the ‘Khiladi’ of Bollywood, said: “What I was supposed to say, Shankar sir has already said. Yes, I am playing an anti-hero, but it’s been an honour to get beaten by Rajini sir. It’s a great and different experience I have had while doing this film.

“I always say, Shankar sir is not a director, he’s a scientist and the movie that he has made… it’s unbelievable what he wants to say through this movie. Because of the contract, I can’t speak much, otherwise I would have loved to tell you guys the whole story… I’d rather keep my mouth shut.”

Rajinikanth, dressed in white, was welcomed with much cheer.

He thanked God, and said he is thankful to the producer and director for casting him in the “prestigious” film.

“It’s really going to be a prestigious picture… The people of India and Indians in overseas also will appreciate it, I have the confidence,” said the iconic star, lovingly called ‘Thalaivar’.

Rahman praised Shankar saying: “I’ve seen him evolve, and he’s a new person. He’s adapted to the new technology and knows the importance of the soul of a story.”

Amy also said it’s a movie of Hollywood standards.

A sequel to the 2010 Tamil blockbuster “Enthiran”, the film “2.0” has been made on a lavish budget. Akshay will be essaying the prime antagonist in the film as an eccentric scientist called Richard, while Rajinikanth returns as scientist Vaseegaran.

Its audio launch will be held here on Friday.
