‘Darshakudu’ not based on my life: Sukumar

Filmmaker Sukumar has clarified that the story of his forthcoming Telugu production venture “Darshakudu”, slated to hit the screens on Friday, is not based on his life.

The film is about a love story that blossoms on a film set.

“The story is not based on my life. Agreed, mine is a love marriage, but I didn’t fall in love with my wife on any film set and nor is she a film person,” Sukumar told IANS.

The film introduces Hari Prasad as a director.

“Hari has been associated with me since the beginning of my journey. When I came across this story, I asked him to direct it as I felt it was time for him to venture out on his own. I’m really happy for him and wish this project opens more avenues for him,” he said.

Talking about Hari, he said: “I’m sure audiences will see a reflection my style in his work. I won’t mind if they do because he’s been with me long enough and it’s quite natural to be influenced by my style.”

Sukumar is currently busy wrapping up Ram Charan starrer Telugu rural drama “Rangasthalam 1985”.

The film marks his maiden collaboration with Ram Charan, who will be seen in a complete rural avatar for the first time in his career.

Samantha Ruth Prabhu plays the leading lady.

Ram Charan shoots amid tough conditions for ‘Rangasthalam’

Actor Ram Charan is braving tough conditions and shooting longer hours for upcoming Telugu rural-based romantic-drama “Rangasthalam”, a source said.

“It has been the toughest schedule to shoot actually! The call times are all before sunrise and we are wrapping up only post sunset. So it’s long days,” a source from the film’s unit told IANS.

Being directed by Sukumar, the film also stars Samantha Ruth Prabhu.

The other day we were shooting a key sequence in the bushes and though Charan was bruised, he was the least complaining person. Instead, he called the ongoing schedule as the most satisfactory one,” the source said.

The film’s shoot is currently underway in remote areas of Godavari district.

The shoot will go on till the month end. Then, it will shift soon to grand sets that are being erected in Hyderabad. Art director Rama Krishna is currently taking care of the set works in the city,” he said.

The film, which has music by Devi Sri Prasad, also stars Aadi Pinisetty and Jagapathi Babu.

Chiru Wasn’t Pleased With ‘Rangasthalam’ Title?

The title of Ram Charan and Sukumar’s upcoming film was recently made official as ‘Rangasthalam’. The reaction for this title has been pretty mixed. While some said that it sounded like the title of a dubbed film, others called it as a fresh title. Somehow, everyone has now come to terms with this surprising title.

Was it easy for Sukumar to select this old-fashioned title for a Ram Charan-starrer and convince everyone, especially Megastar Chiranjeevi? No, its not. It is heard that the intelligent director had to toil hard to get the nod of Megastar for ‘Rangasthalam’ title.

At first, Chiru wasn’t pleased with the title and he called it old-fashioned. He was more inclined towards ‘Palletoori Monagadu’, which has a mass appeal to it. At one stage, Chiru even suggested Sukumar to choose a title from one of his earlier hit films if his intention was to convey 80s backdrop with the title itself.

Sukumar however was adamant and he tried his best to explain Megastar why ‘Rangasthalam’ title was apt for the subject he had wished to narrate. Charan also supported Sukumar in this aspect. He was of the opinion that a fresh and completely unexpected title will shock fans initially but raise curiosity on the project eventually.

As Charan and Sukumar were on the same page, Chiru gave his nod and the title was announced officially.

Producers of Rangasthalam Disappointed With Sukumar

A film in the unusual combination of Ram Charan and Sukumar generated curiosity among movie goers when it was first announced at the beginning of 2016. But, the subsequent happenings..or.. shall we say ‘No-happenings’ have killed people’s interest, and buzz is that producers are quite disappointed with Sukumar for his sluggish pace of work.

Sukumar’s last film released in January 2016. After taking one full year to zero in the subject for his film starring Charan, Sukumar commenced pre-production work from January this year. A team of 10-15 Assistant Directors (AD) were hired to help him with the screenplay and shoot. Four months have passed and the intelligent director could shoot the film for only 20-odd days. Each AD charges around 1.2 lakh per month, and producers may have to pay them until Jan 2018.

When the shooting was abruptly halted last month, producers, Mythri Movie Makers, had released an official press note to blame the extreme heat wave and assured the worrying fans that the shoot will resume from June 1. However, no progress on shooting front happened except the announcement of film’s title. Taking the sluggish pace Sukumar has been working at into account, producers, who earlier planed to release Rangasthalam for Dussehra, have announced Sankranthi 2018 release, a delay of four months.

Blocking the dates of artistes for so long will be a herculean task for makers. Samantha will enter wedlock on October 6, she may not attend shoots at least from one month in advance. The pay for ADs, technicians and interests on finances etc. are also worrying the Producer, no wonder they are upset with Sukumar.

Teaser launch event of filmmaker Sukumar’s second production venture ‘Darshakudu’ was held last evening in Hyderabad. NTR Jr attended as chief guest and launched the film’s teaser. At the event, Sukumar confessed that he was using his good acquaintance with NTR to promote his small film. Later, he narrated a small story to defend why he still was using NTR and won the hearts of everyone.

“Once a Buddhist master and his disciple were travelling. On the way, they came across a woman who asked their help to cross a river. Seeing the hesitation of his disciple to touch the woman, the master helped her cross the river by lifting her in his arms. The question of how his master touched the woman bothered the disciple all along their remaining course of journey. Finally, he dared to ask his master, “being a Buddhist monk, how could you touch the woman?” The master then replied, ‘I have left her very long ago, why are you still carrying her in your mind?,” narrated Sukumar.

Relating the story to their collaborative effort, ‘Nannaku Prematho’, Sukumar said that NTR has left the film after helping it reach the shore but that he was still carrying it in his heart with undiminished love. Sukumar’s affectionate story touched the hearts of everyone including NTR.

Shooting without mobile was good: Rathnavelu

Well-known cinematographer Rathnavelu on Monday said challenging as it was to shoot without mobile coverage for an upcoming yet-untitled Telugu film, there was something good about the experience.

Rathnavelu is currently working on Ram Charan’s project with director Sukumar.

“The 20 days without mobile network filming in Godavari district was a nightmare! Coming back to city realised the mobile detox was good though,” Rathnavelu tweeted.

The makers over the weekend completed the film’s first schedule in Rajahmundry.

A rural-based romantic saga, the film has a 1980s backdrop. It also stars Samantha Ruth Prabhu.

Ram Charan has gone fully rural for this project.

  1. Sukumar’s first film from his production house Sukumar Writings i.e., “Kumari 21 F” starring Raj Tarun, Hebah Patel in the direction of Palnati Surya Pratap has completed the talkie part of the shoot.

The unit has already completed filming four songs.

Apart from being the producer / presenter of the film, Sukumar has also written the story, screenplay and dialogues.

Palnati Surya Pratap, who assisted Sukumar in his earlier films, is the director of “Kumari 21 F”.

This film has cinematography by R Rathnavelu (of Arya, Robo, 1–Nenokkadine, Lingaa) and music is being composed by Devi Sri Prasad.

Devi Sri Prasad has composed superb songs and the unit has already completed filming four songs.

Sukumar Writings is producing “Kumari 21 F” in association with PA Motion Pictures Pvt Ltd. The film is being produced jointly by Sukumar, Vijaya Prasad Bandreddi and Thomas Reddy Aduri (of PA Motion Pictures Pvt Ltd)

The unit has kick started and is executing post production activities in full swing and the producers are gearing up for release during dasara season in October.
