Never sought to impose Hindi over regional languages: Shah

0

Amid rising clamour against talks of making Hindi the common language of the country, Union Home Minister Amit Shah clarified in Ranchi on Wednesday that he never sought to impose it over regional languages.

Shah accused opposition parties of playing politics over his recent statement on having one language for the country which becomes India’s global identity.

“If one wants to do politics, they are free to do so. I only requested that if there is a second language being learnt it should be Hindi. I myself come from a non-Hindi state,” Shah told a news channel.

Sharp political reactions had followed from opposition parties, particularly from those of Southern India, after Shah’s remarks on the occasion of Hindi Diwas on September 14.

On September 14, Shah had tweeted and reiterated at a function later in New Delhi that “India is a nation of many languages and every language has its own importance. But it is absolutely necessary to have one language for the country, which becomes India’s identity globally. If there is any one language that connects the entire nation in a common thread of unity, it is Hindi, which is spoken the maximum.

Protests had broken out in parts of South India, including Kerala and Karnataka, following Shah’s statement on Hindi Diwas that was perceived as an attempt to impose the language all across the country.

BJP’s main opposition political party Congress had said that the formula of ‘one-nation-one-language’ can never be a reality in a diverse country like India. “We are not against Hindi but certainly against its imposition on our people, majority of whose mother tongue are regional languages,” Congress leader and former Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had said.

In Kerala and Tamil Nadu, respectively, opposition parties had termed the comments as a ‘war cry’ against non-Hindi speaking people. DMK President M.K. Stalin had warned of protests across the country while Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan had termed it as a needless controversy planned to divert attention away from the economic crisis.

The CPI (M) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury had said that all languages listed in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution should be treated equally and that imposition of Hindi would lead to a negative reaction in the country.

Modi-Shah watching misrule in AP, says Pawan

0

Jana Senani Pawan Kalyan made shocking comments on the Jaganmohan Reddy government. He made his remarks after a two-day tour in Amaravati Capital City. Pawan told Jagan Regime that no political party would survive if it tries to bring tears to any section of society especially farmers. He further made sensational comments saying that Prime Minister Modi and Amit Shah are closely watching the misrule in Andhra Pradesh. Modi may look friendly but he will not tolerate misuse of authority in governance.

Pawan mocked at Minister Botsa Satyanarayana asking him not to create further confusion. ‘Botsa Garu Be Careful,’ Pawan said at one time referring to the Volkswagen case still pending against the Minister. Pawan said that he didn’t know whether lucky time or EVMs helped the YCP but it got massive majority winning 151 out of 170 MLA seats. It doesn’t mean the government can do whatever it likes.

Jana Senani assured of all his help to first wage local agitations along with Amaravati farmers. If the YCP still tries to shift Capital, Pawan told farmers that he would use his connections in the BJP to stop this. If needed, Pawan would personally take Amaravati issue to PM Modi and Shah.

Shah meets CMs of Maoist-hit states, reviews security

0

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday met the Chief Ministers of states affected by Maoist violence and reviewed the operations against insurgent groups and initiatives taken.

In a first of its kind initiative since assuming charge at the Home Ministry, Shah chaired the meet attended by Chief Ministers and the representatives of 10 Maoist-hit states – Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Odisha, West Bengal, Bihar, Maharashtra, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh.

Shah met the Chief Secretaries and police chiefs of these states during the meeting held at Vigyan Bhawan here. Union Minister of State for Home G. Kishan Reddy also attended the meeting.

It is learnt that top security officials including Home Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla, IB chief Arvind Kumar and Director Generals of paramilitary forces also attended the meeting.

“The Home Minister wanted to review the ongoing operations in the Maoist-affected states, initiatives taken by the state governments and the developments so far there,” a Home Ministry official said, requesting anonymity.

Cases of Maoist violence numbering 8,782 were reported during 2009-13 as against 4,969 during 2014-18, a reduction of 43.4 per cent.

In these cases, about 3,000 people, including security personnel, lost their lives during the 2009-13 period as against over 1,200 people who were killed in 2014-18, the official said.

A total of 1,400 Maoists were killed between 2009 and 2018. As many as 310 incidents of Maoist violence were reported in the first five months this year across the country in which 88 people were killed.

The Centre is implementing special assistance for most Maoist-affected districts with an annual outlay of Rs 1,000 crore to fill critical gaps in public infrastructure and services.

Will Amit Shah consider Jagan plea?

0

There are great expectations on CM Jaganmohan Reddy’s Delhi visit. He is going to attend a meeting being organised by Union Home Ministry on the Naxalite problems. Jagan will be having a special meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Speculation is rife that Jagan is going with a determined plan to convince and make Amit Shah accept his plea on allowing re-tendering of Polavaram hydel project and also review of Power Purchase Agreements.

Jagan is not meeting PM Modi who is on a three-nation tour abroad. The Prime Minister’s Office has recently made its objections to Jagan Circar claiming prior approval from Modi for its decisions on Polavaram and PPAs. Amit Shah is Number 2 in Modi government. Now, Jagan is expected to raise the Polavaram and PPAs issues before Shah.

Analysts say that this is indeed a tough situation for both YCP and BJP. Both the parties are looking for an upper hand in the Andhra politics. There are still doubts whether Shah will give his support to Jagan. The Modi-Shah duo are known for their BJP-centric politics. All their strategies and plans would be always towards weakening other parties and strengthening the BJP in all states in the country. Amid these developments, there is lot of tension among YCP leaders over the immediate outcome of Jagan visit.

Modi-Shah are like Krishna, Arjuna: Rajinikanth

0

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah are like Lord Krishna and Arjuna, said actor Rajinikanth here on Sunday.

Congratulating Shah on his ‘Mission Kashmir’ (revocation of Article 370 which conferred special status on Jammu and Kashmir), Rajinikanth termed it as a ‘fantastic’ move.

The actor said: “We don’t know who is Krishna and who is Arjuna. It is only they know (Modi and Shah).”

Hindu God Krishna is incarnation of Lord Vishnu and Arjuna his disciple in the epic Mahabharat.

Rajinikanth was speaking at a function organised to release the book titled “Listening, Learning and Leading” which chronicles two years in office of Vice President M.Venkaiah Naidu.

He praised Naidu as a complete spiritual person who is interested in the welfare of people.

The function is being hosted by Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar. Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit, Chief Minister K. Palaniswami, and Deputy Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam were also present on the occasion.

Amit Shah attacks Congress over AP Bifurcation

0

The BJP and the Congress MPs had heated exchanges over unjust reorganization of Andhra. The debate took place during the discussion on the Kashmir Reorganization Bill. Union Home Minister Amit Shah reminded the Congress leaders of how they unjustly passed the AP Reorganization Bill by closing the doors and switching off the TVs in the Parliament.

Amit Shah recalled how the Congress brutally went ahead with the bifurcation of Andhra despite the fact that the MPs from that region vehemently opposed it. Even the Congress MPs from Andhra protested against the reorganization. Amit Shah asserted that the Congress has no moral right to criticize the BJP over Kashmir bifurcation.

Senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad tried to clarify how their party held wide ranging consultations before dividing Andhra. Whoever is responsible, the Andhra voters are consistently rejecting both Congress and BJP for unjust separation of Andhra without a capital city.

Is Jagan Circar worried over Modi-Shah future plans?

0

Just a day after arriving from Jerusalem visit, Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy is rushing to Delhi today to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, President Ramnath Kovind and Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu. The AP CM’s visit is finalised despite the fact that all the above leaders would be busy with national level developments in the wake of Rajya Sabha scrapping Article 370 and Article 35A.

YCP says that Jagan will discuss pending AP reorganisation issues with PM and Shah. It is a subject being discussed for over six years now. More than that, Jagan is going to explain to Modi-Shah duo why his government had to remove the Navayuga Engineering Company from the Polavaram project works. Apparently, Jagan has considered this a high priority to immediately clarify his action and pacify the BJP top leaders.

Jagan tour is happening amid rumours that the Modi-Shah duo have already taken a serious stand against Jagan Circar’s controversial decisions on Polavaram, Amaravati Capital City, 10 per cent EWS reservations, etc. The YCP is obviously greatly worried over immediate possibility of the Centre turning totally against its government. This is evident from how YCP MP Vijayasai Reddy, in his Rajya Sabha speech, blamed Jawaharlal Nehru and Congress party for all the problems in Kashmir. Jagan is also worried over how TDP has welcomed BJP decisions on Kashmir and how TDP MPs are becoming closer to Modi Circar at the Centre

Centre spending Rs 27000 per Kashmiri but zero result

0

Article 370 and Article 35A created such conditions that Kashmir became a haven for terrorists leaving no scope for development. What more, the Indian government has been forced to spend huge amounts of money on counter-insurgency operations. Because of lack of jobs and rising poverty, the Centre is also forced to spend Rs 27,000 per Kashmiri whereas it is only Rs 8,000 per person in the rest of the country.

Union Minister Amit Shah told Rajya Sabha that till now, there are no investments, no industries, no trade, no employment opportunities and no development in the troubled state. Only three political families and their followers reaped all the benefits. Amit Shah mocked that one temporary Article was continued for seven long decades which pushed Kashmir into deeper crisis. Despite its fine weather and matchless scenery, Kashmir could not see tourism development also largely because of the religious fundamentalists. The condition of dalits, backward classes and others has deteriorated further. The BJP argued what is wrong if people migrate to Kashmir from other parts of the country when Manmohan Singh and IK Gujral from Pakistan origin could become Prime Ministers of India.

Modi’s Mission Kashmir: How Shah & Co executed the ‘top secret’ task

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s actual countdown for revoking Article 370 and bifurcation of the state of Jammu and Kashmir began during the third week of June, when he chose 1987 batch IAS officer of Chattisgarh cadre, B.V.R. Subramanyam as new Chief Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir.

Subrahmanyam, who had worked as Joint Secretary (PMO) with the Prime Minister earlier, was one of the key officials in Modi’s Mission Kashmir. The entire task of Mission Kashmir was handed over to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who along with Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad was reviewing legal implications with a core team, which included Law & Justice Secretary Alok Srivastav, Additional Secretary Law (Home) R.S. Verma, Attorney General K.K. Venugopal, Union Home Secretary Rajiv Gauba and his select team of Kashmir Division.

Before the beginning of the Budget Session, Shah had briefed Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat and his aide (General Secretary) Bhaiyaji Joshi about the Centre’s determination to revoke Article 370 and subsequent bifurcation of Jammu and Kashmir into two separate Union Territories.

After legal consultations, Shah focussed on the implications of the revocation of Article 370 on the valley’s law and order situation. Sources close to Shah revealed that on the Prime Minister’s suggestion Shah then had a couple of meetings with National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval.

The sources said that once Shah had reviewed the situation in Kashmir himself, Doval was sent to Srinagar to assess the situation from a security point of view.

The NSA camped there for three days. Then on July 26, the decision to curtail the Amarnath Yatra was taken. Later recall of all tourists from the valley was also suggested by the NSA. Apart from this, an additional 100 companies of the central paramilitary were also rushed as back-up to the prevailing security apparatus.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Secretary Subramanyam, who was in the loop with the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) and the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) was given the blueprint of several security measures to be taken on ground zero — use of satellite phones by key police, paramilitary and administration officials; deployment of QRTs in sensitive urban and rural pockets across South Kasmir; and a high vigil at LoC by Army, apprehending mischief from across the border.

The Army chief, heads of intelligence agencies and Central Para Military Forces were also coordinating with the Union Home Secretary and Chief Secretary 24×7.

On the crucial night of August 4, Chief Secretary instructed Director General of Police (Jammu and Kashmir) Dilbagh Singh to take several preventive measures which included house arrest of key political leaders, snapping mobile and landline services, declaring Section 144 and preparing drill for clamping curfew in the valley.

Earlier, on the Delhi front, Shah had another key team set on the job, which included Rajya Sabha members like Anil Baluni and Bhupendra Yadav. The team was tasked to muster the support of fellow members of the august House, where BJP fell short of a majority.

The team which had engineered a major defection in TDP’s Rajya Sabha members had managed Samajwadi Party MPs, Neeraj Shekhar, Surendra Nagar, Sanjay Seth, and Congress MP Sanjay Singh to quit the Rajya Sabha. Thus giving a big boost to the BJP in the upper House.

At the eleventh hour, the team also managed BSP leader Satish Mishra to support the move related to Article 370 and bifurcation of the state.

In the meantime, Amit Shah also had close door meetings with key journalists (having access in the MHA) to be balanced in reporting while touching highly sensitive issues, which have international implications. Shah’s objective was to maintain top secrecy, till he introduces the Bill, and breaks the historical news on August 5, on the floor of Parliament itself.

Sources said that by August 2, Shah was confident that his party had enough support in the Rajya Sabha and would introduce the historical bill(of bifurcation of Jammu and Kashmir) in the Upper House by Monday.

Subsequently, a whip was issued by the BJP instructing all members to remain in their respective House hinting them that important bills were expected to be passed.

Highly placed sources revealed that finally on the weekend, it was decided by Modi and Shah to convene a meeting of the Cabinet at the PM’s residence on Monday, to disclose Mission Kashmir’s objective to Ministers and pass a resolution thereof, prior to the proceedings of the House.

Similarly, the Ministry of Law and Justice was tasked for prompt issuance of notification by the President of India on the revocation of Article 370.

After Shah introduced the Bill amid chaos in the Rajya Sabha on Monday, a BJP MP reacted: “Shah’s mission has never been defeated. He is the new Sardar (Vallabhbhai Patel).”

Standing ovation, clapping for Shah in Rajya Sabha

0

As members of the treasury benches clapped and gave a standing ovation to Home Minister Amit Shah when he entered the Rajya Sabha, it became amply clear that the Modi government had decided to axe Article 370 of the Constitution that gives Jammu and Kashmir special status.

When Rajya Sabha Chairman M. Venkaiah Naidu told the members that he had given special permission to the Home Minister to move a resolution and bills related to Jammu and Kashmir, it was a clear indication what lay behind the major military build up in the state.

Minutes later, Shah proposed scrapping provisions that allowed Jammu and Kashmir a special status among all Indian states.

This triggered a massive uproar from the Congress and other parties over the manner in which the resolutions had been brought.

Two PDP members, Nazir Ahmad Laway and Mir Mohammad Fayaz, were very agitated. They were immediately removed from the House by marshals on orders from the Chairman.

Opposing the bills introduced by Amit Shah, Fayaz tore his own kurta while Nazir Ahmad tore up the Indian constitution.

The din continued even as the Chair repeatedly appealed members to allow the House to function. Members of many parties including Congress, TMC, PDP, CPI and regional parties staged a sit-in protest in the well of the House.

Even as the uproar continued, Leader of Opposition Ghulam Nabi Azad condemned the tearing up of the Constitution, saying “We stand by the Indian Constitution. We will sacrifice our lives for protecting the Constitution.”

After proposing to bifurcate Jammu and Kashmir by removing the controversial Article 370, Amit Shah quoted Article 370 (3) of the Constitution to assert that the President of India can make the Article 370 inoperative under this provision.

“This morning, a Presidential notification, a Constitutional order, has come under which the Honourable President has said that constituent assembly of Jammu and Kashmir means Jammu and Kashmir assembly. Because there is no constituent assembly today, the rights of it is vested in the assembly of J&K assembly. As there is President Rule in the state at this time, the rights of J&K assembly is vested in the two Houses of Parliament,” the Minister said in the Rajya Sabha.

“We can pass the Presidential order unanimously. This has not happened for the first time. In 1952 and 1962, the Congress had amended the Article 370 using the same provision. We have followed the same route,” Shah said.

As per the proposed legislation, the government has decided to bifurcate the state into two Union territories – Jammu and Kashmir, which will have a legislature, and Ladakh which will not have any Assembly.

KCR-Jagan fears over Amit Shah master plans?

0

Andhra Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy is meeting Telangana CM Chandrasekhara Rao during his holiday trips to Hyderabad. But the latest meeting was officially described as one to discuss resolution of reorganisation issues. It may not be true as there were no senior officials or IAS officers supporting the two CMs during their meeting. There is a strong possibility that the two CMs would have discussed the emerging political challenges in Telugu States.

Analysts say that this time, the BJP’s expansions plans in Andhra and Telangana came up for discussion between Jagan and KCR. Both the CMs are considering Amit Shah as a tough rival and strategist who should not be taken lightly. Under his leadership, the BJP could establish itself as a strong force in West Bengal despite challenges from Mamata Banerjee and the Left parties there.

As of now, the BJP has won 4 MP seats in Telangana in 2019 general elections which dealt a great shock to KCR. Though TRS boss has taken strong steps to counter BJP afterwards, the saffron party is still gaining strength in different sections including the tribal populations. The BJP is also silently preparing ground to attack the YCP’s political strategies to win elections by taking advantage of Dalit and BC Christian vote banks.

Speaker a lone fighter against Modi-Shah war

0

The BJP would have thrown away the Kumaraswamy government and formed its own regime in Karnataka by now but only one man could effectively prevent it in the past two weeks. That is Assembly Speaker K Ramappa Ramesh Kumar. He is known as a centre of controversies in Karnataka politics. A six-time senior Congress MLA, Ramesh is now seen as a saviour of the JDS-Congress alliance with his bold stand and fearless defence in the face of challenges from the Supreme Court as well as Karnataka Governor. He is not accepting the resignations of the rebel MLAs despite enormous pressure from all sides.

The latest challenge is from the Governor who wanted the confidence vote to be completed immediately. But the Speaker unhesitatingly replied that he would follow the rules of the Assembly only saying that the House is independent of outside influences. Ramesh Kumar has been postponing the floor test several times now to save Kumaraswamy regime. Meanwhile, the ruling alliance is trying hard but failing to mobilize numbers to save its government. The rival BJP is unyielding and sticking to its guns. The Speaker says that he will not hold the confidence vote till there’s a sense of harmony and stability in the Assembly. He has become a hard nut to crack for the mighty BJP.

Blow to KCR as TRS MP meets Amit Shah

0

The Bharatiya Janata Party is slowly stepping up its efforts to corner Telangana Chief Minister Chandrasekhara Rao. TRS Rajya Sabha MP Dharmapuri Srinivas has created political sensation by meeting with Amit Shah in Delhi. His meeting triggered speculation that DS has almost taken the plunge into the BJP. His RS term is there till 2022. DS took the decision amid allegations that he did not work for TRS winning chances in last parliamentary elections.

Already, DS’s son Aravind has won Nizamabad MP seat on BJP ticket. He defeated KCR’s daughter Kavita. This victory brought a lot of confidence and raised its expectations for its future plans. The TRS leaders have levelled allegations against Dharmapuri Srinivas that he has not worked for the victory of Kavita in this election.

KCR has now started efforts to gather evidence of DS anti-party activities. TRS chief is planning to complain to Rajya Sabha Chairman Venkaiah Naidu for taking action against DS. On the other hand, the BJP has made all arrangements for accommodating and protecting DS. Political analysts say that the action of a senior leader like Dharmapuri Srinivas is not surprising but his exit will definitely cause a loss to TRS in the coming days.

Telangana, Andhra, Kerala will become BJP strongholds: Shah

0

Union Home Minister and BJP President Amit Shah on Saturday exuded confidence that Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Kerala will become the BJP’s strongholds in near future.

He said it was for people of Telangana to decide whether they want their state to emerge as the first stronghold of the party.

Addressing BJP workers after launching the party’s membership campaign, Shah said the party, which secured 19 per cent votes in recent Lok Sabha elections in Telangana, would definitely come to power in the state.

He asked the party workers to strengthen the organization in every booth and ensure that the vote share goes up to 50 per cent, the goal set by the party for the entire country.

Shah, who was on first visit to Telangana after the BJP secured massive mandate to retain power at the Centre, congratulated the party workers for the strong performance in the state.

Making huge inroads in Telangana, the BJP won four seats, up from one it had in the previous Lok Sabha.

“You have laid a strong foundation on which the party will build a grand building,” Shah told the party workers.

He also revised the membership target of the BJP in Telangana from 12 lakh to 18 lakh. “If you can’t achieve this target, inform me and I will participate in the campaign in the districts,” he said.

He said this would double party’s membership in the state.

Shah urged the party cadres to enroll people from all sections of the society, saying he was keen to see an inclusive organization.

Earlier, Shah launched the party’s membership campaign in by issuing a membership card to a tribal woman here in Mamidipalli village of Ranga Reddy district on the outskirts of Hyderabad.

He along with other BJP leaders had lunch at Soni Nayak’s house and interacted with her.

Amit Shah sips tea at Telangana tribal woman’s home

0

The much-anticipated visit of Union Home Minister Amit Shah began in Telangana today amid a lot of fanfare. Immediately on arrival in Hyderabad today afternoon, he visited the home of a poor tribal woman named Soni Nayak at Ranganaraka Tanda in Balapur mandal. He along with other BJP leaders sipped tea offered by her. Amit Shah also took family group photos with her. The highlight of the occasion was that Shah gave the privilege of giving first membership to Soni Nayak on the inaugural day of the present drive.

Political analysts described this as a timely message given by the BJP leadership to CM K Chandrasekhara Rao. The TRS boss has been facing a typical problem in tribal areas these days. His TRS party leaders along with local tribals are clashing with forest department officials. KCR is taking political advantage out of this by winning the favour of tribals in respect of their rights over Podu lands.

Amit Shah made it a point to highlight how much interested his party is to resolve the problems of tribals and give them their rightful place in the party. His visit came amid strong indications that the Modi-Shah duo have chosen KCR and his son KTR as the immediate targets in the Telugu states.

Kothapalli Geetha joins BJP

0

Kothapalli Geetha, former MP from Araku constituency, joined BJP today in the presence of party chief Amit Shah. Details as below.

Geetha won as MP from araku in 2014 elections the ticket of YSRCP party. She later leaned towards TDP and that irked party chief Jagan. She behaved like an independent MP rather than YSRCP MP during her tenure as MP. She even floated her own political party, Jana Jagruthi. Today she merged that party into BJP. It seems she has been in touch with Ram Madhav since quite some time.

BJP is very keen on strengthening their base in AP. It seems they have currently focusing on these former MPs, former MLAs. We will have to wait and see whether Geetha joining BJP will help the party in some way.
