AP Cabinet rejig: Anantapur YSRCP leaders camp in Tadepalli for minister’s post

0

Cabinet rejig is the buzzword in Andhra Pradesh these days. The aspirants are trying to pull all the levers and use all their lobbying skills to enter the YS Jagan cabinet. Many are camping in Tadepalli to win Jagan’s confidence, while others are flaunting their caste strength to ask for a minister’s post. The fight is more intense in the all-important Anantapur district.

The YSRCP has 12 MLAs and 3 MLCs from the district. Currently, Kuruba BC leader Sankaraarayana of Penukonda is the minister. Sources say he could be replaced. Among the many aspirants is senior leader Ananta Venkatrami Reddy. Ananta is a senior leader and was expected to become a minister in 2019 itself. However, caste equations went against him.

Similarly, senior leader, Rapthadu MLA and YS Jagan confidant Thopudurthi Prash Reddy is also lobbying intensely for a ministerial position. Similarly, Kalyandurg MLA Usha Sricharan, a Kurba, is hoping that she would be given a chance in place of Sankara Narayana. Another BC leader Kapu Ramachandra Reddy Is also hoping that his BC status would help him in becoming a minister.

The district has one SC MLA in Jonnalagadda Padmavathi of Singanamala. He is hoping to become a minister as she is the only SC in the district. Hindupur’s defeated MLA candidate and minority MLC Iqbal Ahmed is also lobbying intensely and is using his minority card. Insiders say, Anantapur might have two ministers this time – one a Reddy and the other from SC, BC and minority category.

Revanth Reddy attacks KCR over his Anantapur trip

0

Telangana TDP leader Revanth Reddy came down heavily on Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao for visiting Anantapur and holding discussions with AP TDP senior leader Payyavula Keshav. He responded strongly for the manner in which the TRS supremo behaved in the backdrop of the Paritala’s wedding.

Revanth questioned, “Chief Minister paid respects at Paritala Ravi’s Ghat, but did he ever visit the graves of the martyrs of Telangana?”

Taking potshots at the hypocrisy displayed by the Chief Minister, Revanth said, “He never gave appointment to Professor Kodandaram on whom KCR showered praises during Telangana agitation. But he held separate discussion with Payyavula who strongly who opposed bifurcation of the state.”

Revanth did not mince his words and in an abusive way said that KCR will go to any extent to gain political mileage.

Pawan Padayatra

Vijayawada: The Jana Sena president Pawan Kalyan said he would undertake pada yatra in Ananthapur district shortly. He made this announcement during his interaction with the party whole-timers from the district, who were selected recently. Like the Communist parties, the Jana Sena is also recruiting whole timers as speakers, content writers and analysts to work with the people.

He reiterated that he would contest the next round of Assembly elections from Ananthapur district. He said his pada yatra would connect him with the people of the district and wanted the whole timers to prepare the ground for the elections.

Referring to the criticism on him that he is a part time politician, the Jana Sena chief wanted to know who is a fulltime politician. He said he had not seen any fulltime politician and alleged that most of them have made money in politics and sitting at home. He further said that unlike those politicians, he was working in the films to earn money for his family and his staff. He claimed that films are his bread winning activity which he would keep aside if he had to fight for the people.

He wanted the whole-timers to ignore critics and focus on addressing the issues of the people. He wanted them to highlight the peoples’ issues at every stage and draw the attention of the government to solve them.

South Korean auto major Kia Motors will set up a car manufacturing plant in Andhra Pradesh with an investment of $1.1 billion.

The plant to come up in Penugonda in Anantapur district will produce 3 lakh cars in a year. The work on the facility will start towards the end of this year while the production is expected to commence in the second half of 2019.

The company on Thursday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Andhra Pradesh government in the presence of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu..

“Kia plans to produce a strategic compact sedan and compact SUV especially for the Indian market at the new plant, which will occupy around 23 million square feet and incorporate facilities for stamping, welding, painting and assembly. The site will also be home to numerous supplier companies’ facilities,” said a company statement.

The state government has allotted 600 acres of land for the plant, which will provide direct employment to 10,000 people.

“It will enable us to sell cars in the world’s fifth largest market, while providing greater flexibility for our global business. Worldwide demand for Kia cars is growing and this is our latest step towards becoming a leading global car manufacturer,” said Han-Woo Park, President of Kia Motors.

The company said construction of a new manufacturing facility in India will enable it to maintain its position as one of the world’s fastest-growing automobile brands. With this the company will start selling its models in India, and benefit from further sustainable sales growth, locally and internationally.

India is the fastest growing major new car market and the fifth largest in the world, with more than 3.3 million new cars sold in 2016. Forecasts suggest the country will become the third-largest car market by the end of 2020, it added.

Though there is no official announcement yet, the business-friendly government of AP is initiating land acquisition. In the first phase, rupees 6000 crores will be invested for the plant which is likely to have a manufacturing capacity of three lakh units per annum.

AP government issued orders to acquire close to 600 acres of land in Erramanchi village near Penukonda, though they did not mention the purpose. The government has fixed price of Rs 10.5 lakh per acre as the acquisition cost. The unit is in proximity to Bengaluru and is likely to create jobs to the drought affected region.

Kia was contemplating on locations in Gujarat and Uttarakhand apart from AP. With the incentives given by the AP state government, it seems to have finalised the decision, but is yet to ink the pact.

This is one of the biggest foreign direct investments in the country and is a huge step from the government to convert the southern AP as an automobile hub.

Kia motors is a sister unit of Hundayi motors which already has plants in India. The logistics research discussions between the two units have been allegedly initiated.

The company may probably have a portfolio of cars, including hatchback, sedan, and SUV. The first car will be out in the market in 2019.

Kia Motor Corporation, headquartered in Seoul, is South Korea’s second-largest automobile manufacturer, following the Hyundai Motor Company.
