Taxiwaala has ended up its run worldwide with a distributor share of 21.30 Cr. The film is a Hit and also emerged as the third highest grosser for Vijay Deverakonda after Geetha Govindam & Arjun Reddy. It did best in Nizam which has contributed to 50 percent of the Telugu States Business. Outside Telugu States it has done well in Karnataka but under performed big time in Usa as it couldnt collect 1 Million atleast. The film is an own release all over & can be termed as a Hit if not higher as it couldn’t match Vijay Deverakonda’s box-office potential.

US box office : Moderate run for Taxiwaala

Vijay Devarakonda’s supernatural comedy thriller Taxiwaala is going to end as an average grosser at the US box office.

After a mediocre first weekend with around $ 420k, the Rahul Sankrithyan directional ended it’s second weekend on an average note with a total of $ 740K. Surprisingly, despite no competition from new releases, the film couldn’t surpass the one million mark. Trade circles have termed this run a moderate performance because the numbers are very underwhelming compared to Vijay’s previous hits in overseas. However, it is a safe venture for buyers as the deal was closed for a very low price even before Vijay’s Arjun Reddy released.

The film has been made on a low budget by SKN in association with UV Creations and GA2 Pictures.

“Taxiwala” is actor Vijay Deverakonda’s third release this year and is probably the most “fun film he has done so far. He says there’s no insecurity about his career as far as the pace of his work is concerned.

Excerpts from an interview:

Q. Is “Taxiwala” your most fun film to date or am I imagining things?

A. It is Fun with a capital F. I had a ball shooting it. It was hilarious from when I heard it. I was super kicked about performing it. But the best part was, it is different. It isn’t a comedy, the characters aren’t having fun, their suffering is the viewers’ fun. Does that sound sadistic? But it’s true. Is it most fun? I’ll wait for the audience to tell me that.

Q. This is your third release in a year. Do you intend to keep up with this volume of work?

A. I never intended this either. It just happened. The volume of interesting work that is offered, exciting new talents and big names that are keen to collaborate make it hard to say ‘no’. And if this year I have three releases, there may come a year soon when I have none.

If I don’t like any of the scripts, I will say no to all of them.There is no insecurity about my career. But I am cutting down on work from next year, I want to spend more time on each project from start to finish, and enjoy it. I don’t like the pace I am working at currently.

Q. Your rise as one of the top actors in Telugu cinema has been quite spectacular. How has your life changed during the past two years ?

A. I’ve been working so much that I haven’t had time to notice what’s happening around me. Maybe it’s better to not see the change around me. Do I even need to notice that change is another question I ask myself. I enjoy doing my work and living my life at my lazy pace.

Q. “Nota”, your last film mapped the rise of a young literate Indian to political power. The same theme recurs in the Vijay-starrer “Sarkar”? Are we looking at the resurgence of the star politician?

A. Both. Arjun is irresponsible with himself, but is responsible with his girlfriend Preethi and his profession. “Nota” had me as a responsible politician but an irresponsible young adult. That’s how we are all as people. Grey.

Q. What is your take on the way the #MeToo movement has impacted the Indian film industry? Are you more guarded with your co-stars than you used to be?

A. Live and let live.Cause no harm. Mind your own business. Chill and be happy. These are my moral standards, that’s all I’ll hold myself responsible to. Nope, #MeToo hasn’t changed my rapport with my co-actors. I am as chilled out with them as they’re with me.

I don’t know what impact it has had on the industry, but the concept of harassment anywhere makes me pissed from my core.

Q. Your “Arjun Reddy” is being remade in Hindi as “Kabir Singh”. Your take on actor Shahid Kapoor playing your role, and title?

A. I used to trip on Shahid’s “Ishq Vishk” and I struggled for days to get tickets to “Kaminey”. I danced my ass off to “Dhan-tanaa” from “Kaminey” with my friends behind closed doors. So it’s extremely strange when I think of the fact that he is playing the role I did.

I am sure he will have his own interpretation. Other than that, I just wish them the best and will wait to watch it like any other member of the audience.

Q. What should your fans expect from you in “Taxiwala”?

A. Something completely different from everything I’ve done so far, that’s for sure. Laugh out loud. Scream out loud.

Q. Your next release?

A. “Dear Comrade” with another new director Bharat Kamma .The shooting is on… Trying to hit your hearts and emotions hard with this one.

After the sensational success of Geetha Govindham, Vijay Deverakonda bagged an embarrassing flop with political thriller NOTA. He is now coming up with a supernatural thriller titled as Taxiwala

After getting postponed several times due to piracy issues, Taxiwaala is releasing today all over. Can Vijay bounce back strongly? Let’s find out.

Story:

Shiva (Vijay Deverakonda), a jobless graduate, settles as a cab driver after quitting the odd jobs he attempted. Shiva starts experiencing spooky things inside the vintage car he bought, most of them not harmful to him but scares others. Suspecting a ghost, Shiva and friends try to find the mystery throught the ex-owner. As the team enters the ex-owner’s home, they come across a professor who knows about a pseudo scientific process called Astral Projection. Rest of the story reveals how the Astral Projection is related to the Ghost acts in the Car, who is the person (s) undergo the said process etc. There is also a parallel inter-related plot on Shiva’s brother and sister-in-law.

Performances:

Rising star of Tollywood Vijay Deverakonda acts with ease as a cab driver Shiva. Vijay is able to deliver good performance even in this cowardice characterization which is contrary to his rowdy boy image. However, in second half his screen time is less. Debut heroine Priyanka Jawalkar looks fine; however, her character has limited scope in this film. Second heroine Malavika Nair role is much smaller but it is the crux of the core theme. Raviprakash, Ravi Varma, Shiju, Uttej and Yesteryear heroines Yamuna, Kalyani play other roles. The young guy who played a character named “Hollywood “is fun.

Analysis:

Taxiwala is yet another semi-horror genre film that has been a trend in last few years in Tollywood. Major advantages with this genre are limited budget, crisp runtimes. Thus, many producers are picking up this genre more than saturation. Taxiwala is of same league with a comedy touch and central point is based on a pseudo scientific theory ‘Astral (spiritual) projection’.

Movie starts off in an entertaining manner, quickly moves to the main subject and continues to be decent enough till some time in second half. Once the Malavika Nair thread is opened the graph nose dives, super farcical pre-climax and climax are the let downs. Comedy one-liners by Vijay, his sidekick ‘Hollywood ‘comedy timing are the saving grace and Director Rahul S. succeeded in that aspect. Rahul S. must also be appreciated for not deviating from the core concept of the film. Vijay D. must be appreciated for accepting diverse characters rather than sticking to Arjun Reddy image. Hero heroine love or friendship thread is a half baked one – understandable for the genre. Except ‘Maate Vinaduga’ song there ain’t any romantic moments between the lead pair.

Technical:

Jakes Bejoy music is adequate, ‘Maate Vinadhuga Vinadhuga ‘song stands out. Sujith’s cinemtography is adequate. Crisp editing by sreejith Sarang makes this film fast paced. GA2 Banner production values are adequate for the genre, but given the hero is ‘Vijay D ‘they should have spent more on technical grandeur.

Villain home robbery scene in second half is fun

Verdict:

Taxiwala is a one-time watch for Vijay Deverakonda fans and/or semi-horror genre audience. It entertains adequately, engaging narration tilll mid second half. Made on shoe-string budget, this film may recover the moolah at Indian Box-office!

It’s been quite a bumpy ride for Taxiwaala. A young team of hopefuls, containing names that were looking for a break to make it big in the Telugu film industry came together to make a film they believed in. They got lucky that leading production houses like Geetha Arts and UV Creations supported them in this journey.

But that didn’t mean they had it easy. It has been a work and then waiting of almost two years to reach this point. Delays because of the nuanced Computer graphics (over 600 VFX shots), then eventually a leak a few months before the release that was contained, and finally a leak that came just ahead of the release. All these have come one after the other leaving the team in a quandary.

But beating all odds, the team has garnered strength to move ahead and finally releases worldwide on November 17.

Actor Nikhil Siddhartha usually minds his own business without any controversies. What came as a big surprise to everyone is one of his tweets a few weeks ago which is understood as a jibe on Vijay Devarakonda’s reaction on NOTA result. After NOTA failed badly at box office, Vijay came up with a strong post aiming at those who are celebrating his failure.

As soon as Vijay posted his reaction, Nikhil came up with a tweet which read as ‘ For People who think world revolves around them and throw unnecessary attitude around , Dude UR not that important, every actor competes with himself. Hype less work more’. This post has received a lot of negativity from Nikhil’s followers and he immediately deleted it. Many have lambasted Nikhil for being envious of Vijay Devarakonda’s growing popularity.

Ghajini actor and Tamil hero Suriya’s warm gesture towards Vijay Deverakonda through Twitter has become talk of the town.

Vijay Deverakonda is all set to hit the screens with Taxiwaala movie. But meanwhile, pirated version of entire movie appeared online. However, makers of the movie took necessary steps for damage control and released the trailer, which got good response from audience.

Vijay Deverakonda felt happy with the response and tweeted, ” When I feel low, you know who picks up my spirits? You. Through all the noise, your love comes through to me the loudest”, obviously, sharing the happiness with the audience and fans. Taxiwaala producer SKN gets emotional at pre release event

Vijay Devarakonda’s upcoming film Taxiwaala is produced by Allu Arjun’s PRO SKN Srinivas in association with GA2 Pictures and UV Creations. Speaking at the pre release event, SKN got emotional about his journey from being a commoner to turning a PRO and then a producer.

SKN expressed gratitude to star producer Allu Aravindh for making him a producer and hailed him as a godfather. SKN recollected his close association with Allu Arjun and filled his speech with effusive compliments for giving him continuous support. He also thanked Vamshi of UV Creations for encouraging him towards becoming a producer.

Speaking about the film, SKN said Taxiwaala is a first of kind subject which will appeal well to all sections of audience. He said that the team is fully confident on the output despite of leaks. He praised Vijay Devarakonda for signing the project and predicted that the film will become a blockbuster.

Directed by Rahul Sankrithyan Taxiwaala is going to hit the screens on this 17th.

Stylish star Allu Arjun will grace the pre release event of Vijay Devarakonda’s upcoming film Taxi Waala. The event will be held on November 11th in Hyderabad.

Taxiwaala is a science fiction thriller directed by Rahul Sankrithyan. UV Creations and GA2, the production houses behind this film, have invited Bunny to attend the event. Sources say that Bunny has immediately gave the nod to their request. He previously attended Vijay’s Geetha Govindham event. Now, he is going to boost Taxiwaala promotions as the release date is fast approaching.

TaxiWaala is an upcoming entertainer starring Vijay Devarakonda,Priyanka Jawalkar and Malavika Nair in lead roles. Music for the film is composed by Jakes Bejoy and produced by the popular banner UV creations.

The album begins on a funky note with Ladies and Gentlemen by the youthful singer Hemachandra and penned Krishna Kanth. The song has refreshing beats with peculiar usage of bass guitar- which has been a rare find these days in Telugu film songs. The chord progression is interesting with the lyrics speaking about hope and positivity in the times of despair. The song also speaks about the luck factor which plays a major role in everyone’s life. The usage of electric guitar is also fun and frolic.

Maate Vinadhuga already became popular with Sid Sriram’s majestic vocals. He has proven to be a lucky mascot for hero Vijay Devarakonda and bound to score another hit after Inkem Inkem in the former’s earlier flick Geetha Govindam, the phrase “Maate vinadhuga..vegam digadhuga” is quite impressive and Krishna Kanth strikes again with his soulful lyrics. The usage of sitar in the interlude is the highlight of the song in the midst of techno beats. The orchestration is rich and also has a contemporary feel associated with it.

Some peppiness adds to the album with Crazy Car with Jazzy drums and Spanish styled guitar strumming. Revanth Kumar does a commendable job with his swift vocals and gives the song a nostalgic appeal. The lyrics by Krishna Kanth are challenging because of the scenario in which the composition is done. After Chalti Kaa Naam Gaadi from Chettu Kindha Pleader, here is another song which speaks about a troublesome car and the problems it gives in a funny way. The line “Shikaru anna maata vinna..bhukaarocchi vanukuthunna” is hilarious and also entertaining.

The album hits a fitting finale with melancholic number Neeve Neeve composed in minor scale and sung brilliantly by Shreya Ghoshal. It has been a while a composer has taken over this scale and Jakes Bejoy does a great job. The tune has peculiar progression and string section stands out unique. The song not just speaks about estrangement but also about many fears and despair in a poetic manner.

Verdict:

Taxi Waala is an outright classy album and Jakes Bejoy strikes a very emotional chord as well.
