Why MIM praise for KCR?

0

Political observers in Telangana are miffed at the way Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao is trying to win over hearts and minds of Muslims in the name of inclusive governance. Since he came to power, he has been implementing many welfare schemes and programmes for socio-economic uplift of minorities in the state.

Notable among these are a marriage scheme called Shaadi Mubarak; uniform income ceiling for availing of welfare schemes; skill development training, reimbursement of tuition fees and scholarship schemes; age limit relaxation (21 to 55 years) for self-employment and increase in budgetary allocation.

In recent weeks, KCR has added some more to the long list of benefits being showered on the minorities. Some of them are: an exclusive industrial estate and IT corridor for Muslims in the state; Hyderabad International Islamic Cultural Convention Centre on 10 acres on city outskirts; subsidy for self-employment units; 10 percent quota in the double-bedroom housing scheme; strengthening of the Minority Development Corporation, Urdu Academy and the Wakf Board; new residential schools and hostels.

Until now, all these welfare measures have attracted little attention. But what has happened in the last few days in the State Assembly has become a topic of intense public and political discussion. While the House witnessed some interesting scenes that were reminiscent of royal durbars, KCR, once again, declared his unwavering commitment to minorities’ welfare and unveiled a slew of measures for their economic uplift. On the other hand, MIM floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi showered praise on the CM. Their emotion-filled sentiment-laden speeches and statements looked and sounded like those coming from members of a mutual admiration society.

The question being asked is why KCR going out of his way to woo the Muslims who constitute 12 per cent of the state population two years ahead of Assembly polls? Is it really necessary for him and his party to appease MIM?

Really speaking, with his party’s formidable position in the Assembly, and the kind of ‘wave’ he is sailing on, KCR is assured of next victory. But, according to political pundits, KCR doesn’t want to take any chances with the electorate. TRS seems to have other long-term objectives in mind. Muslim support and vote count during a political crisis. Dozens of welfare schemes for Muslims have already generated tremendous goodwill for KCR and this groundswell is a scoring point for him in future political battles.

Interestingly, the turning tide is unnerving for MIM which thrives on the belief that it is the one and only representative body of Telangana Muslims. But its recent setbacks in local and Assembly polls in other states like Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh when it tried to expand its footprint beyond the Old City might have made it more circumspect on its home turf.

Fearing it could lose its support, MIM seems to be throwing its weight behind TRS – in an unabashed manner. The reason, it is suspected, is MIM is in some sort of quid pro quo deal with TRS. If it is, it will unfold in the coming days.

KCR Vows To Bring Back Nizam’s Jewellery?

0

Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao has made some interesting comments about Nizam’s jewellery. The Telangana Rashtra Samithi government will revive the history of Nizams and do its best to make sure that the fabled jewellery of the erstwhile ruling family returns to Hyderabad from Delhi, declared Mr. KCR on Thursday.

Apart from this, a book to highlight the history and glory of Nizam rule and the erstwhile Hyderabad State has even been proposed by him. The Chief Minister, in reply to a debate on minority welfare in the Legislative Assembly, accused the rulers of undivided AP. He said that they have deliberately resorted to a malicious campaign against the Nizams to project the Telangana region in a bad light and treated Crown Prince Mukarram Jah Bahadur badly.

“There are several great things done by the Nizams. But some rulers in undivided AP maligned the Nizams to project Telangana region in a bad light. They were ill-treated in undivided AP due to which Crown Prince Mukarram Jah Bahadur left the country. The Telangana government will take steps to revive the history of the Nizams, publish a book and tell future generations about the great things done by the Nizams during their rule,” Mr Rao said in the House.

For visiting the Nizam’s Samadhi, he was severely criticised in undivided AP, recalled the Chief Minister.

“I was heavily criticised for this. I was asked by some Andhra people about this. I questioned why they respect a Britisher, Arthur Cotton, when Britishers occupied our country, ruled for 200 years, and troubled Indians. They told me that they respect him because he had built the Prakasam barrage. Then I told them that the Nizam had built Nizamsagar, which has been meeting our irrigation and drinking water needs for nearly a century. He established an independent judiciary despite being a king,” Mr Rao stated.

The Chief Minister was urged by MIM floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi to bring back the Nizam’s fabled jewellery, which is stashed in Delhi. “The Nizam’s jewellery is the identity of Hyderabad. If we get back the jewellery, the identity of Hyderabad will come back. As per the Centre’s rules and regulations and the Supreme Court’s directions, the jewellery can be brought back if any member of the royal family is willing to hand over their palace to keep the jewellery in safe custody,” Mr Owaisi said. He added that Princess Esra has offered to hand over the King Koti Palace, which has a bunker, to store the jewellery. “The state government should pursue the case with the Centre seriously and ensure the jewellery comes back here,” Mr Owaisi said.

Mr. KCR added that he would take up the issue with the Centre and to bring back the jewellery to Hyderabad the government will make all its efforts.

KCR’s Strong Comments Over Muslim, ST Quota

0

Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao said on Thursday that if the Centre refuses to ensure increased reservation for socially and economically backward among Muslims and Scheduled Tribes, Telangana will wage a legal battle.

KCR told the Assembly that he was confident that the state’s demand to include the state legislation in the 9th Schedule of the Indian Constitution will be accepted by the Centre. He, however, said that the state will approach the Supreme Court if necessary. He also said that in the winter session of Parliament, the issue will also be raised by the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS).

A legislation was passed by the Assembly, in April, on increasing the quota for the two categories to 12 and 10 per cent respectively. Currently, in educational institutions and government jobs, the socially and economically backward among the Muslims under the Backward Classes (E) category enjoy four per cent quota, while STs have six per cent reservation. The inclusion in the 9th Schedule will provide the legislation immunity from judicial review.

The state is urging the Centre to include it in the 9th Schedule as the hike in quota for Muslims and STs will take overall reservation in Telangana to 62 per cent. The same was done in done in case of Tamil Nadu, where the total reservation is 69 per cent.

The issue was under the Centre’s consideration, said the Chief Minister to the House. He claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had responded positively to his demand and promised to take up the matter at an appropriate time. He further added that he will lead an all-party delegation to meet Modi, if needed and seek an assurance that the legislation will be included in the 9th Schedule.

Nobody should have any doubts over his government’s commitment to increased quota for Muslims, KCR stressed further. The state’s social composition was such that there was a need to increase reservation to do justice to the socially and economically backward sections, said the TRS chief.

“When a legislation can be made and included in the 9th Schedule for Tamil Nadu, why not for Telangana?” he asked.

Will Modi Change BJP’s Ideology For KCR?

0

A little while ago in the assembly, Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao made a statement about Minority Welfare. Although the issue is currently under Center’s Purview, KCR expressed his confidence, in bringing reservations to Muslim Community, KCR expressed his confidence.

“We are relentlessly working for Reservations to Muslims. We will get them for sure. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also favourable. If needed, TRS MPs will fight for that in the upcoming Parliament session,” KCR announced.

The reservations on the basis of religion is against the ideology of BJP. The state BJP had already stated the same and also opposed the proposal vehemently.

Well, keeping aside the party ideology, it has to be seen now if Modi is really favourable to Muslim Reservations to benefit KCR.

Can Congress Rely On Vijayashanthi Now?

0

Vijayashanthi

The Telangana Congress is desperately looking for stars who can turn out the party’s fate, with just less than 16 months left for the general elections.

The party leadership is not completely satisfied, even though firebrand Kodangal MLA A Revanth Reddy has given some sort of strength with his entry. To rejuvenate the party cadres, the party requires some star campaigners. As Congress legislature party leader and veteran K Jana Reddy put it, the party requires more than one Baahubali to resurrect the party.

And perhaps, that was the reason why the Congress high command suddenly remembered senior actress and former MP M Vijayashanti. During the Telangana movement, Vijayashanti played a major role. She is a powerful speaker and also a hard core Telangana activist. For a meeting with AICC vice-president Rahul Gandhi, she was summoned to Delhi on Tuesday for a meeting.

Besides a key position in the AICC as well, Vijayashanti is likely to be made in-charge of the party’s campaign committee in Telangana, as per reports from New Delhi. But, at this sudden development, the party ranks are much surprised. According to them, Vijayashanti is a spent force and has almost been forgotten by the people and the party leaders. Following her defeat in 2014 elections, she has not been staying away from active politics. The last time one had heard about her was when she called on jailed AIADMK leader Sasikala. It led to the rumours that she would join Tamil politics, calling it quits for the Telangana.

So, doubts have arouse whether Vijayashanti would be of any use to the Telangana Congress. She will become a competitor for many leaders who are aspiring for big positions, on the other hand. Rather than spent forces like Vijayashanti who make guest appearances in the party, the Congress should look for real leaders.

New Secretariat Or Farmers Issue: Which One Is KCR’s Top Priority?

0

Despite opposition from other parties and people’s organisations has drawn a lot of flak from all sections, Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao’s adamant statement in the state legislative assembly has drawn a lot of flak from all sections.

KCR stated that he would construct the new secretariat and assembly complex at Bison Polo Grounds at the cost of Rs 500 crore. The Telangana Chief Minister is being questioned by several leaders and organizations for his wrong priorities.

“At a time when the cotton farmers are committing suicides due to failure of crops, is it so urgent to spend so much money on new secretariat building? Moreover, the roads in Hyderabad are very bad causing a lot of inconvenience to the people. The government can as well spend money on roads rather than wasting it on the new buildings,” a Telangana JAC leader said.

The Chief Minister was also lashed out by controversial professor Kancha Ilaiah, who also joined the issue. He wondered that on the pretext of Vasthu, whether it was proper on KCR’s part to shift the secretariat at the cost of public money.

“If the Vasthu of the Secretariat is wrong, how did Telangana state was achieved?” he asked.

Instead of utilizing the funds on constructing new Secretariat, the chief minister could spend funds on rescuing cotton farmers, suggested Mr. Ilaiah.

CM KCR’s Shocking Announcement In Assembly

Chandrababu give back Polavaram villages to Telangana

Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao made a shocking revelation in the assembly. He announced that his Andhra Pradesh counterpart Chandrababu Naidu is ready to give back some of the Polavaram villages which went to AP after the state bifurcation.

Around 211 villages from Seven Mandals of Khammam district were added to AP by an ordinance. Due to Polavaram Project, these are the villages which will get submerged.

Regarding the same, consultations are going on with Andhra Pradesh government added KCR and Chandrababu Naidu has agreed to the same. The Telangana Chief Minister also added that on this issue, minister Tummala Nageshwara Rao is doing a commendable job.

Earlier, a similar comment was made by KCR and such statements will have huge political implications.

Let us see wait and watch how Andhra Pradesh government will respond on this.

Telangana to be power surplus with additional 13,752 MW generation

0

Telangana is on its way to becoming a power surplus state with the construction of new plants to generate additional 13,752 megawatts, Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao said on Wednesday.

The government has fixed a target of increasing the installed generation capacity to 28,000 MW with an investment of Rs 94,000 crore.

He told the state assembly that when Telangana was created the installed capacity was 6,574 MW, a deficit of 2,700 MW. He claimed that during last three-and-half years additional 7,981 MW capacity was commissioned.

He recalled that when the state was formed there was severe crisis in power sector with two-to-nine-hour power cuts for domestic sector every day and two-day power holidays in a week for industries.

He announced that Telangana has created new record in the country by supplying quality power free of cost for 24 hours to the agricultural sector.

The supply of round-the-clock power to 23 lakh agriculture pump sets across the state began on experimental basis from Monday night.

“The transmission and distribution network will be closely monitored for five-to-six days and 24-hour uninterrupted power supply will begin on permanent basis from coming Rabi season,” he said.

Rao told the House that 25 per cent of the power in the state is being utilised by agriculture pump sets.

Recalling that at the time formation of the state the farmers were not getting power even for two-to-three hours, he said daily nine-hour supply was ensured within a few days.

KCR, as Rao is popularly known, said that with the 24-hour supply to agriculture sector, the total power demand will increase to 11,000 MW and power utilities were ready to meet this demand.

He said the new lift irrigation projects also require 8,500 MW of power. The new power plants will meet the demand for lift irrigation projects and new industries being established in the state.

The construction of 4,000 MW capacity Yadadri Ultra Mega Power Plant has started while 1,880 MW of power will be available by 2018 through the power plants which are under construction at Manuguru and Kothagudem. Another 1,600 MW power plant is under construction under aegis of NTPC.

“For achieving complete transparency and to avoid delays, the construction of power plants was handed over to public sector unit BHEL,” he added.

The per capita power consumption has increased from 1,200 units at the time of formation of the state to 1,505 units. This is higher than the national average of 1,122 units.

He said the government put in a lot of effort to transform Telangana into a resplendent state. The transmission and distribution systems were strengthened with an investment of Rs 12,136 crore.

Vijayashanti finds a new home

0

Vijayashanti met Rahul Gandhi

Lady super star Vijayashanti, who went into political hibernation after 2014 elections after getting defeated in the hands of Padma Devender Reddy, has suddenly become active now. She has met party in-charge Kuntia today. Later she met national vice-president Rahul Gandhi too today. Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president, Uttam Kumar Reddy was present at the meet.

Vijayashanti is planning to play a key role in Telangana Congress party during the elections in 2019. She is also expecting some important posts, like member of All India Congress Committee (AICC) as well as member of a Publicity Committee of the party. Congress Telangana in-charge RC Kuntia has confirmed that Vijayashanti will play an active role in Telangana politics, will campaign for the party, will attend all party meetings and work to strengthen the party.

Congress party and Rahul Gandhi seem to have focused on Telangana state as they believe they have chances on winning as their party only granted statehood to Telangana. Recently firebrand Revanth Reddy joined Congress. Vijaya shanti, who also is a firebrand, became active now. We have to wait and see whether they will help Rahul Gandhi achieve his dream of coming into power in Telangana.

Congress strategy in Telangana

0

Congress strategy in Telangana

Revanth Reddy’s defection is like giving a lifeline to Congress, contrary to popular perception that he has jumped on to a sinking ship. As the dust he raised in political circles is settling down, it is increasingly becoming clear that neither the former TDP leader nor the Telangana Pradesh Congress is naive.

Both Revanth and TPCC have a common agenda – to dethrone Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) from power in the 2019 Assembly elections – with different goals. While it is interesting to watch the political churning in the Telugu states, what is more interesting is the way Congress leaders are playing their cards vis-a-vis Revanth’s one-man show.

Since he walked out of the TDP cradle, Revanth has never criticized his former party or its supremo Chandrababu Naidu. On the other hand, he is making no bones about his admiration for the AP Chief Minister. Even in his resignation letter, Revanth was all praise for Chandrababu and his family. In part, he said, “you have treated me as one of your family members and stood by me in my struggle.”
Once again, he paid his respects to Chandrababu at a meeting of his supporters and some leaders (all from TDP) at his Jubilee Hills home on Monday, saying “he (Naidu) is my role model.” His target, both in his resignation letter and in public utterances is TRS and KCR and his family members. Calling on the people to free Telangana from the ‘despotic rule’ of KCR clan, Revanth said, what is at stake is “four-member KCR kin versus four crore citizens of state.”

Revanth’s agenda is obvious: He doesn’t want to burn his boats though he crossed the river. His heart seems to be still with Telugu Desam although he joined hands with Congress for political expediency. The emerging situation points to the fact that a sizable number of TDP cadres would follow Revanth, swelling Congress ranks in Telangana that would benefit the party in 2019. Since Telugu Desam, which has lost its foothold in Telangana long ago, can’t revive its fortunes even if it bolsters its presence, is likely to give Revanth tacit support to defeat TRS.

This is where the interests of Congress, in the dumps after bifurcation, and Revanth coalesce. But the point not to be missed is their bonhomie will last as long as they have a common purpose. But ties can sour when Revanth and his supporters start flexing their muscles as a group within the Congress.

The old guard within the party is already unhappy over Revanth’s entry as their importance is diminishing and a new wave of youth leaders (most of them from TDP ranks) will send the aging leaders into oblivion.

In a way, that is what the central Congress leadership wants. With Rahul Gandhi set to become party president and his stress is on young blood, the old generation has to make way for the youth. In Telangana, Revanth coming into Congress fold will also serve that purpose.

More importantly, Revanth is trying to revive ‘the spirit of Telangana’ by calling on the students of Osmania University to launch an agitation against the TRS government. Already, OU cauldron is boiling over unfulfilled promises made by KCR before and after the formation of Telangana. With Prof Kodandaram, who was at the vanguard of Telangana agitation, spearheading protests against the state government on various issues, on the side of it, Congress hopes to regain its lost strength. With Kodandaram and Revanth on its side, Congress feels to have got a booster shot.

How many leaders will tag along with Revanth Reddy into Congress?

0

Revanth Reddy

Revanth Reddy following his resignation from TDP on Saturday, met with his followers in Kodangal on Sunday and will be meeting them again on Monday to contemplate on future course of action.

In his game of bringing anti-TRS forces together, Revanth might have just about dozen leaders who will be tagging along into Congress apart from MLA Vem Narender Reddy.

The names of leaders like Sattupally MLA Sandra Venkata Veeraiah, Former MLAs Dayakara Reddy and Vijayarama Rao, Nalgonda Assembly Constituency in-charge Kancharla Bhupal Reddy, TDP leader from Suryapet district Patel Ramesh Reddy, Seethakka surfaced who could possibly defect into Congress.

Of the aforesaid names ,Sandra, Dayakara, Seethakka, are not inclined towards Congress and may not join the grand old party.

However, the TDP allegedly got resignation letters from a few State executive members from Karimnagar, Nizamabad, Nalgonda. Speculations are rift that TRS leadership is in talks with TDP politburo members who want to switch allegiance.

Nonetheless, Congress leadership is tuning their local leaders about the entry of the newcomers requesting them to adapt to the change. Moreover, they noted that no assurances have been given on tickets for next elections.

TS finds a way to cross Kaleswaram hurdle

0

Kaleswaram

Telangana Government seems to believe in the saying “If there is a will, there is a way.” Or so it looks at least in the case of Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao’s pet project Kaleswaram. It is a lift irrigation project the KCR government has been trying to implement but facing innumerable hurdles from Andhra Pradesh, villagers allegedly instigated by Congress, forest and environment authorities and even from some NGOs.

Reasons for their opposition to the project vary. While AP says it is a new project and needs clearance from water management agencies under AP Reorganisation Act, others raise issues like displacement of villagers, effects on environment, etc. Though it is estimated to cost a mind-boggling amount of Rs 80,500 crores, the state government justifies massive investment in it on the ground that it will irrigate one crore acres in seven districts of Telangana.

While the TRS government is going ahead with preliminary work, brushing aside all the objections, they have become irritants in work progress. Now, with the Union Water Resources Ministry accepting Telangana contention that it is not a new but an old project known as Pranahita-Chevella, most of the objections to Kaleswaram have washed away.

In fact, Pranahita-Chevella project was conceived by the late chief minister Y Rajasekhar Reddy in 2007 as part of Jalayagnam. “If a few modifications have been made to the project to make it Telangana specific, it can’t become a new project” is the argument that has won the day.

Then, why did it take so long to realise this fact?

Ramana compares Revanth to back-stabber Nadendla

0

L Ramana, Revanth Reddy

Telangana Telugu Desam Party President L Ramana made sensational comments on Revanth Reddy’s resignation. He compared Revanth with Nadendla Bhaskara Rao who pulled a coup on the NTR government in 1985 by shaking hands with Indira Gandhi.

Speaking to reporters on Sunday he said that there is hardly any loss for the party with Revanth’s exit. Such consequences are not new to TDP and advised the cadre not be apprehensive.

Revanth was in touch with Congress from past 6 months, and this information was provided to the party supremo Chandrababu Naidu. He warned that the actions, against the party ideology, will not be tolerated. He said that in Telangana, TDP will emerge on its own and will fight against Congress and TRS.

Ramana said that there is no need to bother about the allegations made by Revanth when leaving the party.

In Telangana, TDP will be strengthened and all the districts and constituencies are going to visit the leaders. However, the T-TDP president mentioned that they are open for alliances and anyone whose ideologies are similar. He said that TDP will be competing in 119 constituencies in Telangana in next elections

Revanth Reddy’s political journey: What Next?

0

Revanth Reddy

Revanth Reddy’s resignation to TDP party and his MLA seat has been the most debated topic among political circles today. Though he maintained a stoic silence over his future plans, its almost an open secret that he would be joining Congress.

Revanth has graduated from Osmania University in 1992. He started political career in 2006 after he won ZPTC Election as an independent candidate. Then, he was elected as MLC as an independent candidate in 2008 . Later he met TDP chief N. Chandrababu Naidu and joined the Telugu Desam Party. In 2009 and then in 2014 he was elected to the Andhra Pradesh assembly (After elections Telangana came into effect) from Kodangal Constituency through TDP. Revanth Reddy emerged as a firebrand with his sharp tongue and incessant fight on ruling TRS party. Seems this has brought him into the eyes of Congress national leadership now. Moreover,he was arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau on “vote for note” case and the case is on going. So if he changes loyalties now, there would be interesting twists and turns in that case too.

Now, there is debate going on whether Revanth’s decision to join Congress would help him or will it be a blunder. Congress has been notorious for giving too much significance until leaders join their party and after that treating them like any other leader of their party forgetting all the promises made to the leaders before joining the party. Chiranjeevi used get the appointment of then prime minister Manmohan Singh as and when he wanted until he merged his PRP and once the merger was over, Congress top management showed their true colors and Chiranjeevi himself once made a public statement (a party meeting organized by VH in Hyderabad) that he seemed to have joined a sinking ship. Many analysts use the phrase “Dhritarashtra hug” whenever congress party leaders hug other leaders. So, even though all other leaders of Telangana Congress are silent now, they will definitely start expressing their opinions once Revanth joins Congress party officially. Even though congress has the tradition of encouraging Reddy community, there are already bunch of Reddy leaders in congress.

So we have to wait and see how Revanth will climb up the ladder in the congress party. He was a big fish in small pond till yesterday. Will he be fine to be a small fish in big pond. In fact, now he is joining an ocean. Will he prove himself big enough to survive in the ocean. Only time can answer!!!

Yadadri to lose its rustic beauty in development

0

Ever since the formation of Telangana state three years ago, the wish of Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) has been to have a divine abode on a par with Balaji temple in Tirumala which is in Andhra Pradesh. Luckily, he is able to keep Bhadrachalam (in Khammam district), where the famous and historic Sri Rama temple is located on the banks of Godavari River, despite AP efforts to make it part of Andhra.

To match the grandeur and popularity of the Lord of Seven Hills, KCR has decided to develop the abode of Lord LakshmiNarasimha Swamy in Yadagirigutta, just not an important pilgrim centre in the state but as a spiritual-cultural hub. A beginning was made in March 2015 with the renaming of Yadagirigutta as Yadadri by Chinna JeeyarSwamy who is now de facto official priest of Telangana government. To make the presiding deity Narasimha Swamy as the Lord of Nine Hills, eight adjoining hillocks have been included in the core area that comprises the main temple, cottages and buildings for pilgrims’ stay, hotels and restaurants, shopping complexes for visitors and a huge bus and taxi terminal.

The TRS government has sanctioned Rs 100 crores to develop Yadadri and a Master Plan has been prepared envisaging transformation of a small temple town into a bustling spiritual-educational-cultural hub of the state.

In March this year, IT Minister KT Rama Rao had told the state Assembly that the government would strive to make Yadadri a prominent religious and spiritual centre of Telangana and “temple works are progressing at a brisk pace.” He also said steps would be taken to ensure that pilgrims would not face any inconvenience or difficulty as far as food and accommodation are concerned. Besides AC and non-AC rest rooms, a dining hall to serve free food to 5,000 people at a time and other facilities are being constructed.

The development plan is so massive that an authority to execute the project in two phases has been established. Known as Yadadri Temple Development Authority (YTDA), its jurisdiction extends to several villages covering an area of 104 square kilometers. To facilitate easy movement, all important places from within the state and outside would be connected to Yadadri by highways. Even extension of Hyderabad Metro is being considered.

While devotees welcome the KCR initiative, it also draws flak from many quarters. One question being repeatedly raised is allotment of government funds for temple development and transforming a quiet town into a bustling tourist-cum-pilgrim centre. Traditionalists fear that the sanctity of ancient temple will be lost once it becomes a commercial hub. Moreover, they think, one can’t enhance the faith by merely making a place more attractive and by providing modern facilities.

The collateral effects of development in the area are being felt now. Already, the land prices have gone up steeply and realtors are trying to cash in on expected tourist-pilgrim boom. Though space for ample green cover is incorporated in the master plan, with buildings all around and a surge of visitors, Lord Lakshmi Narasimha could well be sitting in his cave amidst a concrete jungle.

Police foil Congress’ march to Telangana Assembly

0

The police on Friday foiled an attempt by the main opposition Congress to lay siege to the Telangana State Legislative Assembly on the first day of the winter session to demand protection of the interests of farmers.

Police detained hundreds of Congress workers coming to the city from the surrounding districts.

Tension prevailed near the Assembly as Congress leaders and workers tried to advance towards the building to lodge their protest against the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) government for what they call its failures to come to the rescue of distressed farmers.

A large number of protesters led by state Congress chief Uttam Kumar Reddy began a ‘chalo Assembly’ march from the party headquarters Gandhi Bhavan. Carrying party flags and raising anti-government slogans, they tried to proceed towards the Assembly but were stopped by the police. There was heated argument between two sides.

As the protesters refused to budge, police personnel physically lifted them to the waiting vehicles and shifted them to another place.

Congress leader Uttam Kumar Reddy slammed the TRS government for arresting peaceful protesters. He alleged that the government was adopting an undemocratic attitude towards protests by the opposition.

He said farmers were committing suicides as they were not getting Minimum Support Price (MSP) but the government was indifferent to their problems.

He said Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao had failed to honour the promises made on the floor of the House. He asked the government to fulfil the promise to pay interest that got accumulated on farm loans due to faulty implementation of the crop loan waiver scheme. He said crop loan waiver did not benefit the farmers and they were “still suffering”.

He claimed that during the last three years more than 3,500 farmers committed suicide under the TRS regime and most of them were cotton farmers.

Meanwhile, the farmers’ issue rocked the Assembly on the first day. As soon as the session began, the opposition parties demanded that it be taken up for debate by suspending the question hour.

However, Deputy Speaker Padma Devender Reddy, who was in the chair, went ahead with the question hour and rejected the adjournment motions moved by Congress, BJP and other opposition parties.

The legislators of opposition parties continued their protest during the question hour. The Deputy Speaker later adjourned the House till Monday.

The ruling party has hit back at the Congress for trying to stall the House and for creating trouble outside the House. Industries Minister K.T. Rama Rao said the government was ready for debate on any issue but the Congress party was only keen in stalling the proceedings.

Rama Rao said though the Congress party had demanded only a 20-day session, the government was ready for a 50-day session so that the House could discuss all issues.

TS Govt enters into MoU for Rail Coach as Centre flouts AP Reorg promise

Vexed with the lack of response from the Central government on Rail Coach Factory, the Telangana state government entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Medha Servo Drivers on Friday.

The rail coach factory will be setup near Kondakal of Sangareddy district with an investment of Rs 800 Crore. It will create direct and indirect employment to 2000 people. The unit which will be setup with a strategic foreign collaborator, has been allocated 100acres land through TSIIC.

As per the Thirteen schedule of Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act 2014, “The Indian Railways shall, within six months from the appointed day, examine the feasibility of establishing a Rail Coach Factory in the successor State of Telangana and improve rail connectivity in the State and take an expeditious decision thereon”

However, there has been no noticeable positive response from Central Government on the issue, despite repeated reminders from Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao himself.

Medha Servo Drives is currently the largest Propulsion equipment supplier to Indian Railways based out of Telangana. KTR hoped that the project will materialize soon and believes that within 2years this will be complete.

Revanth gets hugs from TPCC while T-TDP leaders snub

0

A very attention-grabbing scene was witnessed in the assembly premises on Thursday between Telangana Congress leaders and TDP leader Revanth Reddy. Kodangal MLA who went to assembly for attending the TDLP meeting, was embraced by TPCC leaders with warm hugs.

The Congress party leaders who came to the assembly for the TCLP eagerly welcomed Revanth, who was snubbed by his own partymen.

The TTDP President L Ramana sent a message ordering Revanth to give up on his responsibilities as TDLP leader and TDP working President and act as an MLA. Revanth cancelled his TDLP meeting, took his files and computer from the assembly office and walked away.

The Kodangal leader said that the circumstances are being conscripted to create internal conflicts in the TTDP. He made it clear that he is not against anyone except Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao.

He said that he is feeling sad at the state of T-TDP cadre. Revanth said that the latest developments in the yellow party is like doing abhishekam to Chief Minister of Telangana with milk.

Why Revanth Reddy is a trump card

0

The man in the news of Telugu states’ politics is Anumula Revanth Reddy. The 47-year-old Telugu Desam Party leader who had grabbed a lot of media attention earlier was on May 31, 2015 when the Anti-Corruption Bureau arrested him following a sting operation on his alleged attempt to bribe a nominated MLA, Elvis Stephenson, to vote in favour of a TDP candidate in the Legislative Council poll.

The charges against him were serious and sensational. A criminal case had been filed against him, along with two others, and after a few days of judicial custody, Revanth got conditional bail from the High Court on June 30, 2015. Though it has remained a black mark on his high political career, it has neither diminished his stature nor fiery public speaking.

As the working president of Telangana TDP and the floor leader of that party in the Telangana State Legislative Assembly, Revanth has pushed the sordid episode under the carpet and continued to play a role what his mentor Chandrababu Naidu expected of him in the Assembly and on public platforms.

What happened to the bribe case, nobody knows, at least the public. After creating a stir two years ago when the rivalry between the two chief ministers of the Telugu states is at its peak, the story died a natural death. But the scandal seems to have ended the turf war between TDP and TRS with an unwritten gentleman’s agreement.

Now, Revanth has catapulted himself on to the centre stage of Telugu politics by hobnobbing with Congress leaders. His broad hints of switching side have been bringing broad smiles to state Congress leaders and they are going extra mile to welcome him into their party fold in the presence of none other than Rahul Gandhi.

While Revanth’s political gestures and manoeuvres have elated some Telangana Congress leaders who are looking for a face that could revive a moribund party, the old guard is not too happy for obvious reasons. They think that one-time blue eyed boy of Chandrababu Naidu would dump them, given a chance, and could easily worm his way into the hearts of Congress central command.

At the same time, TDP is squirming and mulling over options to save its face. Since Revanth has not officially quit TDP, the party has to weigh its options carefully before calling for action. It is also possible that he may be testing political waters before deciding on his next move. Either way, it’s a major setback for TDP and its supremo Chandrababu who has firmly stood by Revanth, at the cost of alienating some party loyalists, during his trials and tribulations.

However, the one million dollar question is: Why Revanth wants to cross the river? Political pundits see a long-term strategy, which can be real or fictitious. Of late, there is discontentment in the Telugu Reddy community which sees political domination by other castes in the two states. If the situation is allowed to continue at current pace, Reddys will be nowhere. So, they want to regain the community’s political power in the 2019 Assembly polls.

The groundwork is being prepared now with an eye on the next elections. The Congress, left abandoned in the Telugu states after bifurcation, has found an ally in the Reddy community and wants to take advantage of their frustration in the next poll. Who can be a better face than Revanth Reddy’s to project him as the young dynamic leader of Congress in the region? Apparently, YSR Congress chief Jaganmohan Reddy too has factored in the Reddy issue before chalking out his poll strategy.

Telugu Desam will be the obvious loser if analysts prove right. But more worry for the TDP brass should be if Revanth Reddy starts opening cupboards to let skeletons tumble out.

BJP’s growth in Telangana will benefit TRS

0

The on-and-off affair between the TRS and BJP has publicly ended as noted by Minister of IT&C K T Rama Rao in a recent interview. However, K Chandrashekar Rao has a strategy in place for the saffron party.

Speculations are rife that the Chief Minister allegedly reviewed the latest political developments with some leaders of the party. If reports are to believed, BJP’s growth in Telangana will be good for TRS.

Currently, BJP has a three percent voting share and with its improved campaigning it is expected to go up by 6percent.
This increase will help in dividing the anti-government votes.

Consequently, there won’t be impact on the pro-government votes and TRS can claim the power again. KCR doesn’t want to keep the competition between TRS and Congress alone. He is wants to encourage multi-faceted competitions.

Consequently, the pink party is apparently concentrating more on curtailing congress than the saffron party.
