Police stations in Telangana to have social media accounts

All police stations in Telangana will have Facebook account and Twitter handle from next year for communication with people on a daily basis, the state police chief announced on Saturday.

Director General of Police M. Mahender Reddy said they will use technology and undertake people-friendly initiatives in mission mode to achieve the objective of safer Telangana.

The state has about 800 police stations. The DGP said the technology initiatives undertaken in Hyderabad in recent years would be extended to all the districts and all the units of the police force.

All police stations will also have reception desk and grievance redressal and petition management system. People’s feedback will be taken through third party call centre and based on this, every police station will be given citizen satisfaction rating.

He announced that 2018 will be the year of technology and citizen-friendly initiatives. He released the annual plan for the year, highlighting the proposed initiatives to achieve eight goals – improving service delivery, combat existing and emerging crimes, organisation building and transformation, workforce management, adoption to technology, partnership with community and domain experts, road safety and traffic management and making cities safer.

The police chief said that since peace is a pre-requisite for development of the state, for attracting investments and for implementing welfare and development activities, the 60,000 strong force would lay greater emphasis on leveraging technology and undertaking process related and community partnership related initiatives.

He said some of the projects launched in Hyderabad, Cyberabad and Rachakonda police commissionerates covering the capital city and its surroundings will be replicated in other parts of the state.

HYDCOP, the award winning mobile app to empower frontline police officers for smart policing on par with global standards, will be extended to the entire state. To be called TSCOP, it will be launched within a week. Similarly HawkEye, a mobile app to empower common man to become citizen police, will also be extended across the state.

The community CCTV project, which helped Hyderabad police in crime prevention and detection, will also be replicated in 30 other districts.

A mini command and control centre will be set up in each district police headquarter and commissionerate and it will be linked to the state command and control centre coming up in Hyderabad.

DGP said as posts on social media have the potential to disturb law and order and communal harmony, social media monitoring cells will be created with the involvement of people. A social media lab is also proposed in each district.

As the cyber crimes in the state doubled during 2017, the police had decided to focus on this area. Cyber crime cells will be created in all units of the force across the state.

An investigating support centre will come up in Hyderabad to aid the investigating officers across the state and to act as experience sharing through knowledge management system. It will work round the clock and will have domain experts, forensic, medical and legal experts.

A community policing support centre will also be set up to bring police and citizens together to prevent crime and develop safer neighbourhoods.

KTR invited to WEF meet

1

Telangana’s Commerce Minister K.T. Rama Rao has received an invitation to the World Economic Forum (WEF) annual meeting in Switzerland next month — an invite generally restricted to Central Ministers or Chief Ministers, said a government statement on Wednesday.

The Information Technology, Industries and Commerce Minister has been invited to the prestigious meet in recognition of his active role in making Telangana the number one state in the ease of doing business ranking, said the statement from the Minister’s office.

More than 2,500 business leaders, economists and politicians from around the world will attend the meeting scheduled to be held in Davos.

The forum, while extending the special invite, took into consideration the key role played by the minister in organising Global Entrepreneurship Summit in Hyderabad last month and his efforts over last three years in attracting investment to the state.

Rama Rao, the son of Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, will meet business leaders and CEOs of leading companies during the two-day meet starting from January 17.

KTR, as the minister is popularly known, said he would highlight the policies of the state government, especially the industrial policy and the enormous investment opportunities in the state.

Top Maoist leader surrenders before Telangana Police

0

Top Maoist leader Ginugu Narsimha Reddy alias Jampanna on Monday surrendered before the Telangana police chief, following ideological differences with the Maoist outfit.

The Central Committee member of the Communist Party of India-Maoist, who was carrying a Rs 25 lakh reward on his head and his wife Hinge Anitha alias Rajitha, who was also active in the outfit, laid down the arms before Director General of Police M. Mahender Reddy.

Jampanna, 55, said they decided to leave the organization and join the national mainstream as many social changes have taken place in the country in the last 15 years.

The Maoist, who was active in the extremist movement for over three decades and was involved in over 100 offences in different parts of the country, said before coming out of the organization, he sent a detailed note to the leadership, explaining the reasons for his decision.

Though other members of the Central Committee advised the couple to bring the changes by remaining in the party, they conveyed that it would not be possible for them to continue in the party.

Rajitha also carried a reward of Rs 5 lakh on her head. The police chief said the reward amount would be given to the couple for their rehabilitation.

Hailing from Warangal district of Telangana, Jampanna was also serving as the member of the CPI-Maoist central regional bureau and Central Military Commission. He was also incharge of the Odisha state committee of the banned outfit.

The DGP described Jampanna’s surrender as a huge blow to the Maoist outfit. Stating that the Central Committee has 18 more members, Mahender Reddy appealed to them to surrender and join the mainstream.

The police chief said the government was ready to extend all possible help for rehabilitation of Maoists who want to lay down arms.

Rahul Gandhi urged to take action against Telangana Congress leader

0

Senior TRS leader and Telangana minister K. T. Rama Rao has demanded Congress President Rahul Gandhi to take action against party’s state leader Revanth Reddy for his remarks against Health Minister Lakshma Reddy.

Rama Rao on Monday tweeted that Rahul Gandhi and state Congress chief Uttam Kumar Reddy should respond to the “cheap” utterances by Revanth Reddy.

“It is for Rahul Gandhi Ji or Uttam Kumar Reddy Garu to respond to this cheap, crass & downright ridiculous utterances towards a respectable cabinet minister in Telangana,” said Rama Rao, son of Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao.

“They were swift with Mani Shankar Aiyar’s behaviour but let’s see if it was selective to Gujarat elections,” the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) leader, added referring to the senior Congress leader’s suspension from the party for his utterances against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Revanth Reddy, who recently quit Telugu Desam Party (TDP) to join Congress, used “inappropriate” words while criticizing the Health Minister, who is also a physician, allegedly describing him “Munna Bhai MBBS”.

Lakshma Reddy reacted sharply to say that “Munna Bhai” at least worked for a good cause in the movie while Revanth Reddy is like notorious thief Charles Sobhraj.

TRS leaders in Mahabubnagar district on Sunday lodged a police complaint against Revanth Reddy.

Telangana varsity hosts global conference on functional materials

Over 200 delegates from 10 countries are attending an international conference on advanced functional materials which kicked-off on Monday at Rajiv Gandhi University of Knowledge Technologies (RGUKT) at Basar in Telangana.

Internationally acclaimed scientists came together to discuss and showcase their research findings to researchers from India and abroad at the three-day conference.

The conference aims to address the application aspect of the functional materials in areas of societal relevance, to discuss current scientific issues and to ignite scientific temper in young researchers.

Apparao M. Rao, Director of Clemson Nano-Material Institute, Clemson University, delivered the keynote address at the conference being held with the theme ‘Applications of smart materials in the areas of nano-science and nano-technology, synthetic chemistry, sensors and computational materials science’.

S. Jonnalagadda from University of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, was among the key speakers.

A. Ashok, Vice-Chancellor of RGUKT Basar said that the conference is being organised to enthuse interest in the students and young faculty and encourage them to take up research and developmental activities.

Addressing the inaugural session, Ranjeev R. Acharya, Telangana’s Special Chief Secretary, Higher Education, said that technology is fundamentally innovation driven and universities must inculcate innovative thinking in students.

To encourage activity-based learning and teaching from school level, the government established more than 540 residential schools on par with international standards which is first of its kind in the country, the official said.

The integration of basic and applied research on nanostructured aspects of materials is encouraged in Telangana universities. The government is keen in developing research and developmental activities in the universities, she added.

Selection of materials, information on their composition, structure and surface are crucial for specific application. Physics and chemistry of how atoms are arranged in materials underpin the design, fabrication and applications, she said.

The Vice-Chancellor said that it is a matter of great pride that the 10-year-old university is organising an international conference on such a rare subject with speakers of international repute.

RGUKT is an autonomous body established in a 300 acre campus to cater the needs of rural meritorious students.

It is the first University to start integrated six years B.Tech programme just after completion of Class 10, Ashok informed.

TDP loses another pillar of strength in Telangana

0

TRS leaders’ pronouncements that TDP will be rooted out of Telangana seem to be prophetic. After Telugu Desam’s big wig Anumula Revanth Reddy switched over his loyalty to Congress a few months ago, another heavy weight, Uma Madhava Reddy, has joined TRS along with her son Sandeep Reddy.

Uma Madhav Reddy is widow of former home minister Madhava Reddy. He was killed in a Naxal mine blast in 2000 when Chandrababu Naidu was the chief minister of united Andhra Pradesh. After his death, Uma continued her husband’s political legacy by taking active part in TDP. Her son too followed in her footsteps.

Her leaving the TDP has been on the cards for some time, ever since Revanth jumped over to Congress. But it was not known at that time whether she would join Congress or TDP. She has said that it’s a painful decision to leave TDP but she has to accept political compulsions and her followers’ demand.

Apparently, she had waited for a Congress invitation to join that party. Since Telangana Congress leaders were cool to her overtures and TRS leaders were more than willing to take her into the party fold, she formally joined it on Thursday in the presence of Chief Minister KCR who said her joining TRS was like ‘a sister coming back to her family.’ He also said her son Sandeep Reddy has a bright future in politics.

Thus, Chandrababu Naidu has lost another pillar of strength in his party in the T region.

Eight Maoists killed in Telangana gunfight

0

Eight extremists of a newly formed Left wing group were killed in an exchange of fire with police in Telangana’s Bhadradri Kothagudem on Thursday, police said.

The incident occurred in Tekulapalli forests of the district, adjoining Chhattisgarh.

The slain extremists were members of the CPI-MLs’ Chandr Pullareddy Baata group, which was formed in July this year by some Maoist earlier associated with CPI-ML Jana Shakti group.

The gunbattle took place during a combing operation by police in the forests.

A police officer said the combing operations were launched following a tip-off about the presence of extremists.

Bhadradri Kothagudem’s Superintendent of Police Amber Kishore Jha said the group was indulging in extortions from contractors and local businessmen.

The police officer said the extremists opened fire when asked to surrender. The police had to return fire, killing eight extremists. No policeman was injured in the incident.

The police recovered five weapons including an SLR and two 8 mm rifles.

This is the first major gunfight between police and Maoists since formation of Telangana in 2014.

While police have foiled the attempts of the banned CPI-Maoist to revive their activities in the newly-created state, some extremists associated with Jana Shakti outfit regrouped to form a new organisation. Police said this was active in four districts.

0

Attivo Economic Zones Pvt Ltd will develop an infrastructure equipment manufacturing park in Telangana, it was announced on Wednesday.

The park will come up over 500 acres in the National Investment and Manufacturing Zone (NIMZ) near Zaheerabad town, according to the MoU signed by the company with Telangana government on Wednesday.

Telangana’s Department of Industries & Commerce and Attivo, an initiative of Kanoria Foundation entity Srei, signed the MoU in Bengaluru in the presence of Telangana’s Industries Minister K.T. Rama Rao, Srei Vice Chairman Sunil Kanoria and Attivo CEO Indranil Dasgupta.

According to a statement released here, the park to be formed in joint venture by Telangana government and Srei Infrastructure, will create a sustainable and comprehensive industrial zone of international standards.

Most of the world’s leading original equipment makers are expected to set up their units in the park, which has a potential to generate direct and indirect employment in excess of 10,000 jobs over the next 10 years.

“Attivo’s proposed park would be the most ideal location for all construction and mining equipment manufacturers as a plethora of road, irrigation and mining work is being awarded by the Government of Telangana and most of the contractors and construction companies are based there,” said Kanoria.

Rama Rao said the park to be developed with work to play concept will have the facilities. He announced that five first anchor investors in the park will get additional incentives.

Mutton soup exposes Telangana woman’s chilling crime

0

In a sinister plot borrowed from a crime thriller, a woman murdered her husband and nearly swapped him with her paramour through plastic surgery but it was a bowl of mutton soup which spilled the beans.

Police in Telangana revealed the shocking facts unearthed during the investigations of the chilling crime in Nagarkurnool town.

M. Swati, a 27-year-old nurse at a private hospital in the town, was married to Sudhakar Reddy for three years and they also had a child. However, she came close to Rajesh, a physiotherapist. They hatched a plan to get rid of Reddy.

They executed the plan successfully by injecting anaesthesia to Reddy early on November 27 and when he fell unconscious, hit him on his head resulting in his death. They later dumped and burnt the body in the forests.

To ensure that nobody gets suspicious about Reddy’s disappearance, Swati hatched a plan to swap her dead husband with Rajesh by making some changes in his physical appearance through plastic surgery.

As part of their plan, she poured a small amount of acid on Rajesh’s face and informed Reddy’s relatives that unknown persons had attacked him.

‘Reddy’ was rushed to a corporate hospital in Hyderabad, where doctors advised plastic surgery. The treatment had started and when it looked Swati and Rajesh would succeed in their plan, the story took a dramatic turn.

Reddy’s relatives got suspicious when he refused to have mutton soup served to patients with burn injuries. They were shocked when he told the hospital staff that he is a vegetarian as the real Reddy used to take non-vegetarian food.

According to a police officer involved in the investigations, Reddy’s relatives grew suspicious on noticing change in his behaviour. When they started asking him some questions including the identity of some relatives, he stopped speaking and was conversing with signs.

Reddy’s family members alerted police. When the police grilled Swati, she confessed to killing her husband with the help of Rajesh.

Police arrested Swati on Sunday. She also confessed that she was inspired by Telugu movie “Yevadu” starring Ram Charan Teja and Allu Arjun. The story of this 2014 movie was about a youth (Allu Arjun) who gets injured and a lady plastic surgeon gives him the face of her deceased son (Ram Charan).

A police officer said Rajesh will be taken into custody after discharge from the hospital.

World Telugu Conference 2017

1

World Telugu Conference 2017

For the first time, the Telangana Government is hosting the World Telugu Conference in Hyderabad from December 15 to 19. Ironically, it was the venue for the first meet of Telugus from across the world in 1975 when the city was the capital of united Andhra Pradesh.

For reasons unknown, the global conclave of Telugus has not been held regularly. Though the inaugural was a grand affair and launched with lofty aims by the then Government of Andhra Pradesh, the second and third conferences were organised in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, in 1981 and Mauritius in 1990 respectively. The last one was held in 2012 in Tirupathi. That means in over 40 years, the global Telugu conclaves had been held just four times, averaging one per decade. And, all these were held under the patronage and support of the united AP Government.

The idea behind launching a platform for Telugus living in the country and outside of it is to bring together the Telugu Diaspora and make them aware of the greatness of the Telugu language and its literature, art and culture, history, etc. While the success of the 1975 conference was unprecedented – a lakh of people were said to have attended various events every day – its appeal has started waning subsequently. One reason was the enthusiasm with which the then state government had worked for it and organizations and prominent individuals supported it is mostly absent in later years. The World Telugu Conference was such a draw that who was who in every field of human activity participated and duly honoured for their contribution to the language and literature and various forms of arts and culture, including cinema and stage drama.

Fast forward to 2017 World Telugu Conference. The KCR government is doing everything possible to make it a grand success. But there is a difference. While the core aim of the previous meetings was to promote the Telugu language and culture and everything linked to or associated with them as stated at the 1975 inaugural session, the forthcoming one appears to project Telangana and its Telugu, literature, culture, traditions, and even its cuisine.

Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has directed a cabinet sub-committee specially constituted for making arrangements for the conference to serve Telangana specialities, including, of course, Hyderabad biryani to the delegates, invitees and others attending different sessions and events at eight venues spread across the city. The food will be supplied from a centralised kitchen managed by top chefs.
Similarly, various cultural events listed in the conference itinerary are designed to showcase Telangana’s arts and crafts, festivities, rural traditions, poetry and folk songs. According to KCR himself, the conference should be a mirror for the world to see everything about Telangana.

There is nothing wrong in his thinking because he feels whatever is dear to Telangana people has been suppressed by ‘Andhra rulers’ during their 60 years of rule. In other words, it’s Andhra language and cultural imperialism that have muted Telangana’s distinctive aspects of life. Many share the view and see the World Telugu Conference as an opportunity to remind others of the ‘forgotten’ greatness of this region and its contribution in enriching Telugu. A Rs 3-crore 40-minute documentary film encapsulating all about the youngest state and featuring the heartthrobs of Tollywood is being readied for the global audience.

The Telangana Sahitya Academy has invited about 40 delegates from other countries and 50 from other states. Around 8,000 Telugu luminaries from all walks of life are expected to attend the conference.
While all these efforts are welcome, many are raising questions about the very purpose of the conference: Is it to unite the Telugu Diaspora and promote the Telugu language, or is it to promote the Telangana State and Brand Hyderabad?

0

Telangana attracted $17 bn investment in three years, says CM

0

Telangana, under its new industrial policy, has given approvals to 5,469 industrial units with a total investment of $17.5 billion during the last three years, said Telanagana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao.

Addressing the inaugural session of Global Entrepreneurship Summit (GES) on Tuesday, he said these approvals created over four 400,000 jobs.

He said under this policy which is called TS-iPASS, it is mandatory by law that all approvals have to be given within 15 days.A

“The unique feature of this Policy is that in case the approval does not come in 15 days, it is deemed to be given,” he said.

Rao said Telangana has been ranked as the No. 1 state in the country in Ease of Doing Business Rankings, brought out by the Indian government and the World Bank jointly.

Telangana has now become a favoured destination for both international and domestic investors, he claimed.

The Chief Minister said Hyderabad has the second largest presence of five most-valuable companies in the world outside their own headquarters in the US – Apple, Google, Microsoft, Facebook and Amazon.

Stating that the state is encouraging young entrepreneurs, he said Hyderabad hosts India’s largest technology incubator called T-Hub, which is now recognized as a role model by the Niti Aayog.

Singer Sunitha’s indirect comments on TS government

0

Singer Sunitha posted a subtle post in her facebook that was instantly liked by many netizens. She commented “Trump kuthuru Rayadurgam to Khaja guda road lo raavatledhemo.. Vasthe baavundu” (Trump’s daughter seems to be not travelling by Rayadurgam-Khajaguda Road. Wish she should have”. Her laconic post speaks tons about how the Telangana government is functioning.

Couple of months back, when there was rainy season and this year had comparatively more rains, people almost begged government for better roads and repairing drainage spills. But the government then gave empty statements like – “Even Mumbai and US cities also will go completely dysfunctional when this kind of rains happen. Definitely we will mend all the roads and make Hyderabad a global city. But it is a long and continous process, it can not happen overnight”. But now, when Ivanka is coming to Hyderabad, all works are done on war footage. Yesterday, workers seen doing the road works even in the night time. These kind of day and night hard work was never seem to done for the sake of our own people.

In fact Sunitha expressed, what most of the Hyderabadis were feeling.

Telangana to launch electric vehicle policy next month

0

The Telangana government will next month launch its policy for electric vehicles to provide incentives to manufacturers and private players setting up charging stations, a senior government official said on Thursday.

Jayesh Ranjan, Principal Secretary, Industry, Commerce and Information Technology, said the policy will offer incentives for setting up charging stations and enable creation of infrastructure like allotment of lands.

The policy will also provide necessary regulatory framework for the sector. The government will amend certain laws so that the power can be drawn from power stations for charging facilities, he told reporters on the sidelines of an event where Mahindra Electric and Zoomcar announced launch of shared mobility in Hyderabad.

Zoomcar has deployed 20 Mahindra e20Plus on its platform for hire.

Ranjan said the EV policy was almost ready and they were waiting for feedback from the Transport and Municipal Administration Departments on the proposals. “Once we get their feedback, the policy draft will be sent to Chief Secretary and later to the Chief Minister for approval,” he said.

The EV market is currently small but once it starts growing, Mahindra will ramp up the production at its facility in Zaheerabad in Telangana, he said.

Ranjan said he feels that electric vehicles could also play a key role in ensuring last mile connectivity for commuters of Hyderabad Metro, which is set to be launched next week.

Hyderabad Metro Rail (HMR) has already tied-up with Uber and Ola to ensure last mile connectivity to and from metro stations. The commuters will have multiple options including electric cycles and pedal cycles from the stations to reach their destinations.

Hyderabad, Vizag among Top 10 richest cities

Hyderabad in Telangana and Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh are among the top ten richest cities in India, according to Yahoo Finance. The ranks are based on their estimated Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of 2016. GDP is the measure of market value of all finished goods and services produced during a particular time, say financial year or a calendar year.

Accordingly, Mumbai, the country’s commercial capital, has retained its top position with an estimated GDP of Rs 23.92 lakh crores followed by the administrative capital Delhi with Rs 19.04 lakh crores.
While Kolkata ranked third with Rs 9.75 lakh crore GDP, IT cities Bangalore and Hyderabad occupied fourth and fifth positions respectively with an estimated GDP of Rs 5.39 lakh crores and Rs 4.81 lakh crores.

Chennai, which used to be the King of South in every respect and the fourth most important city in the country, took the sixth slot with RS 4.29 lakh crore GDP. It has lost its pre-eminence due to the rise of Hyderabad and Bangalore.

Ahmedabad, with Rs 4.16 lakh crore GDP, occupies the seventh position, followed by Pune (No 8 – Rs 3.38 lakh crores); Visakhapatnam (No 9 – Rs 2.79 lakh crores) and Surat (No 10 – Rs 2.60 lakh crores).
The ten cities account for a total GDP of Rs 80.13 lakh crores.

Not surprisingly, these top ten are home to a majority of millionaires and billionaires in the country. According to Asia-Pacific Wealth Report – 2017, India is home to the fourth largest population of millionaires in the region.
