Three companies have come forward to set up jute mills in Telangana with a cumulative investment of Rs 887 crore.

The proposed jute mills will provide direct employment to 10,400 people.

Gloster Ltd, MBG Commodities Pvt Ltd, and Kaleshwaram Agro Pvt Ltd on Friday signed separate MoUs with the state government, in the presence of state ministers K.T.Rama Rao, Singireddy Niranjan Reddy, and Gangula Kamalakar.

Gloster Ltd will invest about Rs 330 crore to set up a jute mill in Warangal district. The investment is will create 3,400 direct employment opportunities in the region.

Kaleshwaram Agro Pvt Ltd, will set up a modern integrated jute mill in Kamareddy district with an investment of about Rs 303 crore. The investment will generate approximately 3,600 direct employment opportunities in the region.

Industry and Information Technology Minister Rama Rao stated that Telangana is making efforts to revolutionise the agriculture sector through optimum utilisation of resources from the Godavari and the Krishna rivers and local water bodies as well.

He also added that there is a need to be self-sufficient in jute production as the demand has been rising on the back of increasing agricultural produce and procurement in the state.

KTR, as the minister in popularly called, stressed the need for farmers to look at alternate crops as well for sustainable profitability. More jute mills are likely to come up in other districts as well given the focus that Telangana is placing on food processing, he said, and assured support to companies coming forward to set up jute industries in the state.

Agriculture Minister Niranjan Reddy said Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao has been placing special focus on the jute industry as the agricultural produce is increasing. He said the state will encourage farmers to take up jute cultivation to meet the requirements of the jute mills. He added that the jute can also be a sustainable alternative to plastic.

Civil Supplies Minister Kamalakar said demand for gunny bags in the state has been on the rise. “The state has been sourcing these bags from West Bengal and Chhattisgarh. With new jute mills coming up in the state, it would be in a position to save on these costs,” he said.

Telangana DGP dismisses doubts over death of rape-murder accused

0

Telangana Director General of Police M. Mahender Reddy on Friday dismissed doubts being expressed over the manner of death of Pallakonda Raju, the only accused in the rape and murder of a six-year-old girl.

The police chief told reporters that there were no doubts that Raju committed suicide by coming under a train.

Mahender Reddy pointed out that there were seven eyewitnesses who saw him walking on the track and coming under the train.

“Two railway gangmen, 2-3 farmers and two engine drivers of the train are the eye-witnesses. We have recorded their statements,” the DGP said adding that there is no need for police to lie. He said baseless allegations were inappropriate.

Raju, 30, was found dead on the railway tracks near Ghanpur station in Jangaon district on Thursday, a week after he sexually assaulted and killed the minor girl at his house in Singareni Colony in Saidabad area of Hyderabad.

The victim’s body was recovered from the house of Raju, who happened to be her neighbour, on the night of September 9.

The incident had triggered massive public outrage with some people and politicians, including a state minister, calling for killing the culprit in an “encounter”.

A massive manhunt was launched for Raju across the state. The police had also announced Rs 10 lakh reward for any information leading to his arrest.

The DGP made the clarification amid doubts being expressed in various quarters over the veracity of police version about Raju’s death.

Raju’s family members have alleged that police killed him after taking him into custody. Some people’s organisations have also expressed the doubt over police version and alleged that he was killed to cover the government’s failure in nabbing him immediately after the incident.

A section of netizens in social media have described his death as “train encounter”.

A civil liberties group has also filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in Telangana High Court expressing apprehensions that Raju was killed in police custody.

Political parties celebrate Telangana Merger Day

0

Political parties in Telangana on Friday celebrated Telangana Merger Day by paying tributes to the freedom fighters who fought for accession of erstwhile Hyderabad State with the Indian Union.

Leaders of the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) and opposition parties hoisted the national flag at their party offices to mark the day.

It was on September 17, 1948 that the then princely state of Hyderabad merged with the Indian Union, following military operation ‘Polo’, commonly known as ‘Police Action’.

TRS General Secretary K. Keshava Rao led the celebrations at party headquarters Telangana Bhavan by hoisting the national flag.

Speaking on the occasion, Keshava Rao said there was no need for any controversy over September 17. “You call it liberation day or merger day, it’s a day of happiness for all of us,” he said.

The MP recalled that Telangana and other parts of then Hyderabad State did not get Independence on August 15, 1947 and they had to wait for another year.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which celebrates September 17 as Telangana Liberation Day, has been demanding the state government to organise official celebrations.

However, the successive governments in undivided Andhra Pradesh and TRS government after formation of Telangana State rejected the demand and accused BJP of pursuing divisive politics by giving communal colour to the merger.

The saffron party is organising a public meeting at Nirmal to mark the day, which will be addressed by Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

Union minister for culture and tourism G. Kishan Reddy unfurled the national flag at BJP’s state headquarters in Hyderabad. He reiterated the demand that Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao fulfill the promise made during the Telangana movement that after the formation of a separate Telangana state, September 17 will be celebrated officially.

BJP national OBC morcha president K. Laxman alleged that the TRS government has become a puppet in the hands of Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM).

BJP state president Sanjay Kumar, who is currently undertaking a ‘padyatra’, paid tributes to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel by garlanding his statue in Kamareddy town. He said the path shown by Patel for the country’s unit and sovereignty was inspiring.

The BJP leader said Patel gave freedom to people of Telangana by declaring ‘police action’ and making Nizam surrender. He said Patel’s contribution in making India a strong nation will always be remembered.

Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president Revanth Reddy hoisted the national flag at party headquarters Gandhi Bhava. He paid floral tributes to portraits of father of nation Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru and Sardar Patel.

Speaking on the occasion, Revanth Reddy said it was the Congress party which brought Independence. He claimed that Telangana became a part of the Indian union thanks to the efforts of Jawaharlal Nehru. He recalled that even Sardar Patel was president of the Congress party.

The MP said there was not a single leader of the BJP which had any role in the Freedom Movement. He alleged that the BJP is using the names of Congress leaders for political gains.

The Telugu Desam Party (TDP), the Communist Party of India (CPI) and the Telangana Jana Samithi (TJS) also celebrated ‘Telangana Merger Day’ with their leaders hoisting the national flag.

Delhi leaders damage BJP, Cong in Telangana!

0

The so-called Delhi leaders of national parties BJP and Congress are damaging the prospects of their own parties in Telangana by moving closely with TRS top brass.

The TRS government led by Chief Minister K.Chandrashekar Rao is facing severe anti-incumbency after coming to power seven years ago due to its failure to fulfill its major poll promises and unable to implement welfare schemes effectively due to financial crisis.

The state leaders of Congress and BJP are competing with each other to cash in on this anti-incumbency factor to defeat TRS in 2023 December Assembly polls and come to power in Telangana.

While BJP state president Bandi Sanjay is undertaking padayatra across Telangana, TPCC president Revanth Reddy is holding Dandora rallies to highlight the failures of the TRS government.

Under these circumstances, instead of contributing to the efforts of state leaders in strengthening of their respective parties in Telangana to defeat TRS, the Delhi leaders of BJP and Congress are helping TRS by praising TRS government, CM KCR and his son KTR whenever they visit Hyderabad.

Union ministers in Modi cabinet are having lunch with KCR and KTR at Pragathi Bhavan and praising the TRS government’s achievements.

Congress Delhi-level leaders like Shashi Tharoor are complimenting KCR and KTR for growth in IT sector.

These Delhi leaders are providing ammunition to TRS leaders to counter Revanth and Bandi Sanjay’s criticism on KCR, KTR and TRS government.

All the efforts of Revanth and Sanjay to push TRS into the defensive mode with their agitation programmes are going waste with these Delhi leaders who are damaging their own party’s prospects in Telangana and helping TRS.

TPCC chief kicks up a row with his remarks on Shashi Tharoor

0

Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) chief Revanth Reddy allegedly describing party MP Shashi Tharoor as a ‘donkey’ kicked up a row on social media on Thursday.

Telangana minister K.T. Rama Rao on Thursday posted audio clip of Revanth Reddy’s interaction with mediapersons on Twitter.

In the clip, Revanth Reddy, who is also an MP, can be heard calling Tharoor a ‘gadha’ (donkey). He was asked about Tharoor praising KTR during his recent visit to Hyderabad as the leader of the Parliamentary standing committee on information technology.

KTR posted the audio clip after Revanth Reddy apparently denied the report that he termed Tharoor as a ‘donkey’.

“Born liar and looter @KTRTRS can’t get away with hiding behind @ShashiTharoor ji and fake news. It’s clear that you are trying to mislead current issues of child molestation and corruption charges against your family,” the TPCC chief tweeted after KTR slammed him for his verbal attack on Tharoor.

“As the chairman of the IT standing committee, Shashi Tharoor Ji had paid some compliments to the efforts of the Govt of Telangana recently. His colleague in parliament & PCC chief calls him a Donkey!! This is what happens when you have a 3rd rate criminal/thug leading the party,” tweeted KTR, who is the son of Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao.

After Revanth Reddy called the report fake news, KTR again took to Twitter, this time with the audio clip.

“While ***** like @revanth_anumula need not be responded to; it’s important to expose filth. Here’s his audio clip/comments on Tharoor. Sent to me by a reporter, I am sure if we send it to a forensic lab, it’ll match his infamous #Note4Vote voice. Any comments @RahulGandhi Ji?,” KTR tweeted.

Tharoor also joined the issue after someone took exception to Revanth Reddy’s remarks.

“I am sure he was only expressing his fraternal feelings!” wrote Tharoor.

During the visit of the parliamentary committee on IT led by Tharoor to Hyderabad last week, KTR had made a presentation on the state’s IT initiatives.

“Hugely impressive presentation by @KTRTRS &his team. I said that as with foreign policy, we need to look beyond political divides on IT policy. If @ministerktr is setting an example in Telengana that the rest of us can benefit from, we can all gain from a forward-looking IT policy,” Tharoor wrote.

“Many thanks @ShashiTharoor Ji Politics can be relegated to a back burner when it comes to the interests of our nation & policy making Happy to meet & contribute to the IT standing committee under your chairmanship,” KTR replied.

This apparently did not go down well with Revanth Reddy, a bitter critic of Chandrasekhar Rao and his family.

Terming Tharoor a ‘donkey’, the TPCC chief allegedly said that he should be expelled from the party.

Revanth Reddy also allegedly said that Tharoor and KTR were of the same ilk and their fluency in English did not mean that either of them was a knowledgeable person.

Pawan Kalyan calls up family of Hyderabad rape, murder victim

0

Actor-politician Pawan Kalyan on Wednesday called up the family of a six-year-old girl who was raped and murdered here last week.

The Jana Sena chief could not reach the house of the victim in Singareni Colony of Saidabad area due to utter chaos as hundreds of his fans gathered there to catch a glimpse of him.

At one stage, the actor stood on his car to wave at the crowd. The stampede-like situation reportedly led to damage of a car of a local resident.

Unable to reach the victim’s house, Pawan called up her parents and consoled them.

Later, talking to reporters he said he would stand by the family till it gets justice.

The actor said the horrific incident has pained him and demanded immediate steps to catch the culprit and punish him.

Pawan said the victim’s parents told him that though they identified their neighbour Pallakonda Raju as the suspect, prompt action was not taken and as a result, he is still at large.

The Jana Sena leader urged the government to extend all help to the family and do justice to them.

Finding fault with media for highlighting only a few incidents, he said this incident came to light through social media. He wanted all to rise above political affiliations to condemn such heinous incidents and police and government should take strong measures to prevent their recurrence.

The child was sexually assaulted and murdered on September 9 by her neighbour, and her body was eventually found in his house.

The horrific incident had triggered angry protest from residents, who demanded immediate and the harshest punishment to the guilty.

Despite the initial claims by police that accused was arrested from his native village in Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district, he remains still at large.

Hyderabad police on Tuesday announced a reward of Rs 10 lakh for any information leading to arrest of the accused.

The police also released a photograph of him.

Covid vaccination: Telangana crosses 2 cr doses mark

1

Telangana has reached a new milestone in Covid-19 vaccinations as it crossed the 2 crore doses mark, officials said on Wednesday.

Director of Public Health Dr G. Srinivasa Rao announced that the state has become the 14th state in the country to cross 2 crore doses mark. As per the data on Cowin portal on Wednesday, Telangana has administered 2,00,40,525 doses.

“It is a proud moment as we achieved a significant milestone in the vaccination programme against Covid in our state,” he said.

For administering first one crore doses, it took 165 days while the next one crore does were administered in just 78 days.

“Apart from the commitment of the last level field functionaries of our department, the support from line departments, the backup we received from the highest level of political and administrative wings, enthusiastic participation of public for vaccination at GCHCs and PCHSs has made this possible,” Rao said.

He also praised print and electronic media for its role in disseminating relevant information. While thanking all those who made this possible, he said they now look forward to 100 per cent vaccination.

At a programme held to mark the occasion, Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar cut the cake in the presence of Health Secretary S.A.M. Rizvi and other senior officials of the Medical and Health Department.

The state government on September 12 decided to launch a special drive to administer Covid-19 vaccines to 3 lakh people daily to cover those who have not taken them so far.

The state, like the rest of the country, had rolled out vaccination on January 16 and crossed the one crore doses mark on June 25.

KTR taking helicopter tours to escape Oppn parties protests!

1

These days TRS working president and IT minister K.T.Rama Rao is often travelling to districts by helicopter to launch various development programmes.

Earlier, KTR always used to travel by road in his convoy of vehicles.

But now he is travelling in a helicopter to districts which are near Hyderabad.

KTR went to Gadwal in a helicopter from Hyderabad on Tuesday, which takes less than three hours to reach by road.

KTR is reportedly taking helicopters to tour districts because opposition parties are frequently obstructing him when he is travelling by road.

BJP and ABVP activists are blocking KTR’s convoy whenever he is visiting any district demanding the release of job notifications to fill 2 lakh vacancies in government departments.

Congress activists are also obstructing him on one issue or the other.

Police are resorting to lathi charge on activists to cleary KTR’s convoy and this tussle between police and opposition parties are getting more coverage in media than KTR’s official programmes in districts.

To avoid this situation, KCR is travelling by helicopter and directly landing at the official programme venue or public meeting and returning straight to Hyderabad giving no scope for opposition parties to obstruct him on road.

Amith Shah’s visit to TS to neutralise KCR’s Delhi trip impact!

0

Union home minister Amit Shah is visiting Telangana all of a sudden.

Amit Shah is addressing a public meeting in Nirmal on September 17 to mark the occasion of “Telangana Liberation Day”.

The BJP is demanding TRS government to celebrate Telangana Liberation Day officially for long but Chief Minister K.Chandrashekar Rao is refusing to do so although he made this promise during Telangana statehood agitation allegedly due to pressure tactics of AIMIM, the friendly party of TRS.

Amit Shah is now visiting Telangana on September 17 to reiterate BJP’s demand.

However, Amit Shah’s sudden visit to Telangana generated political heat in Telangana.

Speculations are rife that there is BJP’s ‘hidden agenda’ behind Amit Shah’s visit. That is to neutralise the impact of recent KCR’s visit to Delhi from September 1 to 9 where he met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Amit Shah within short notice.

This created an impression that TRS and BJP are friends at Delhi-level and fight only at Gully-level. KCR’s Delhi trip also impacted Bandi Sanjay’s ongoing padayatra in TS with Congress accusing TRS and BJP of maintaining ‘secret ties’ which was proved with KCR’s meetings with Modi and Amit Shah.

To counter this, Amit Shah is rushing to Telangana to attack TRS and KCR in the public meeting at Nirmal on September 17 and send a message that TRS and BJP are political rivals and no ‘secret friendship’ exists between them.

KCR comes to the rescue of loss-making Hyd Metro Rail

0

Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao said that the state government would explore the possibilities of helping Hyderabad Metro, as it was in heavy losses due to less traffic on account of the Corona pandemic.

The CM gave assurance to the L&T higher officials that the government would support Hyderabad Metro Project and help it to be back on tracks.

The L&T higher officials have made repeated requests to the government to support them as Hyderabad Metro Project had incurred heavy losses due to the Corona pandemic.

In this regard, The L&T Officials had a meeting with the CM late on Tuesday night at Pragathi Bhavan with a request that the state government should support the Hyderabad metro. The L&T officials discussed about the financial losses of the Metro, Bank loans repayment, the mounting interest’s day by day and urged the government to come to their rescue.

The CM said,” Within a short span of time Hyderabad Metro by providing safest travel services, became a popular public transport system. The Corona pandemic had adverse impact on Hyderabad Metro as it did for other sectors. For Hyderabad, which is growing day by day, metro rail services are very necessary and there is a need to expand the metro services in future. It is regrettable that Corona Pandemic situation forced Metro Rail project into financial crisis and it was made to pay compound interests. The state government would come to the rescue of the prestigious Hyderabad Metro project as it did for other sectors. He said the state government would examine the possibilities. In accordance with the public needs, the government has to take out of the box decisions during the difficult times like the Corona pandemic situation.”

The CM said measures would be taken not only to support Hyderabad Metro but also to rejuvenate it. To study the matter extensively, weigh pros and cons and arrive at a policy, the CM said a high-level committee would be formed.

In this committee, Municipal Administration Minister KT Rama Rao, R&B Minister Vemula Prashanth Reddy, Government’s Chief Advisor Rajiv Sharma, Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar, CM Principal Secretary S Narsing Rao, Finance Special Chief Secretary Ramakrishna Rao, MAUD Spl Chief Secretary Arvind Kumar, Principal Secretary (Industries) Jayesh Ranjan will be there.

The CM has instructed the Committee to submit its report shortly on how to save Hyderabad Metro from incurring losses after thoroughly studying all the aspects.

KTR challenges BJP leader over Central funds to Telangana

0

Telangana Minister K.T. Rama Rao on Tuesday threw a challenge at state BJP chief Bandi Sanjay Kumar to prove him wrong that the state received only Rs 1.42 lakh crore out of its Rs 2.72 lakh crore contribution to the Centre in the form of taxes.

Rama Rao, who is also son of Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao and Working President of the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), said he would resign from his ministerial post if Sanjay proves him wrong and if the BJP leader could not do so, he should resign from the Parliament.

KTR, as Rama Rao is popularly known, slammed the BJP leader for his claim during his ongoing ‘padyatra’ that funds for all the schemes of the state government are coming from the Centre.

Mounting a scathing attack on BJP while addressing a public meeting at Gadwal, he said that the Modi government is giving back only 50 per cent of what Telangana is contributing to the Centre, and told the people that the money earned from their sweat and blood was going to serve the people in the form of central funds to BJP-ruled states.

He alleged that the money being given by Telangana to the Centre in the form of taxes is being diverted to Uttar Pradesh and other backward states.

The TRS leader slammed the Centre for not sanctioning at least one medical college, IIM or Navodaya school for Telangana.

Targetting Sanjay for his claim, KTR asked him whether the Centre was paying for Rythu Bandhu, Rythu Bhima, free 24 hours power supply to farmers, nurseries in every village, Vaikuntadhamams in villages, Haritha Haram, Kalyana Lakshmi/Shaadi Mubarak or monthly social security pension of Rs 2,000 for various categories of beneficiaries.

“If the Centre is giving funds for all the schemes being implemented in Telangana, why there are no such schemes in Karnataka which is ruled by the BJP,” he asked.

KTR, who laid foundation stone or inaugurated development works worth Rs 104 crore in Jogulamba Gadwal district in a single day, said Sanjay was spreading lies during his ongoing padyatra.

6-yr-old’s rapist will be killed in encounter: Telangana minister

0

A Telangana Minister on Tuesday said the guilty person in the rape and murder of a six-year-old girl in Hyderabad “will be killed in an encounter”.

Labour Minister Malla Reddy’s sensational comment came a day after state Congress chief Revanth Reddy made a similar demand.

“We will definitely arrest him and will do the encounter,” Malla Reddy told reporters on the sidelines of an event in Hyderabad.

Asked to react on criticism by opposition leaders for not calling on the family of the victim, the minister said they would definitely meet the family members and pay them compensation.

The talk of encounter gave new twist to the case amid the ambiguity over the whereabouts of the accused.

Initially, the police sources had claimed that the accused was arrested from his native village in Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district.

However, a senior official clarified that the accused is still at large.

Fifteen special police teams of the commissioner’ task force are said to be on the lookout for the fugitive.

Police have succeeded in securing a CCTV footage from Falaknuma that shows the accused wearing a cap and face mask, while moving along with another person.

The child was sexually assaulted and murdered on September 9 by the 27-year-old accused who happens to be her neighbour in Saidabad.

The body of the girl, who was missing since 5 p.m. Thursday, was found in the house of her neighbour after midnight.

Autopsy done at the government-run Osmania Hospital revealed that the child was sexually assaulted and strangulated to death.

The horrific incident had triggered angry protest from residents on Friday. They staged sit-in for seven hours on Champapet-Sagar Road, demanding immediate and harshest punishment to the guilty. Some of the protestors also demanded that the guilty be killed in an encounter.

Telangana may move SC over idols immersion curbs

0

The government of Telangana is likely to move the Supreme Court challenging Telangana High Court order banning immersion of Ganesh idols made of Plaster of Paris in Hussain Sagar lake in Hyderabad.

With the High Court on Monday refusing to modify its order, the state government is likely to file an appeal in the apex court.

Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhara Rao discussed the situation created by the High Court order with Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar, municipal administration secretary Arvind Kumar and other top officials late on Monday.

The meeting reportedly decided to challenge the High Court order keeping in view the sentiments of devotees and the problems faced in implementing the ban on immersion of idols made of PoP in Hussain Sagar.

The High Court on Monday dismissed the revision petition filed by the state government to allow immersion of PoP idols in the lake.

A division bench comprising acting Chief Justice M.S. Ramachandra Rao and Justice T. Vinod Kumar made it clear that it cannot permit water pollution by allowing immersion of PoP idols.

“You created a situation of impossibility, now solve it. We cannot grant permission to people to pollute Hussain Sagar,” the bench said.

The court also refused to allow immersion into Hussain Sagar from Tank Bund road saying the huge amount of taxpayers’ money spent by the government to beautify the stretch will be wasted.

The bench also asked the authorities whether they implement the laws or violate them.

The review petition was filed by Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) commissioner Lokesh Kumar.

The petitioner had mentioned that if the immersion was not allowed from Tank Bund, it may take up to six days for immersion of thousands of idols brought to the lake.

While refusing to modify its order, the High Court had stated that if the government doesn’t like its order, it can challenge the same in the higher court.

With less than a week to go for the immersion, the High Court order has landed the authorities in a dilemma.

A state minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav stated that by the time the high court delivered its decision on immersion of PoP idols, 35,000 Ganesh idols had already been installed at various locations in Hyderabad and it was not possible for the government to make alternative arrangements by constructing special ponds at such short time.

He said lakhs of people are likely to participate in the immersion procession across the city and all arrangements were being made for peaceful and safe immersion.

Bhagyanagar Ganesh Utsav Samithi (BGUS) has opposed any curbs on immersion in Hussain Sagar.

The organisers of the annual immersion procession called the court order a violation of the right to freedom of religion.

Its leaders have threatened that if authorities stop them from immersing the idols in Hussain Sagar, they will leave the trucks with idols on roads.

The Samithi wants the government to file an appeal in the Supreme Court to ensure that ‘Hindu sentiments’ are protected and the festival is carried out in keeping with the traditions.

The court had pronounced orders on a contempt petition filed by advocate Mamidi Venu Madhav for not implementing the court’s orders in the writ petition filed by him seeking a direction to restrain people from immersing idols made of plaster of Paris in Hussain Sagar lake.

The 10-day long Ganesh festival began on September 10. The festivities will conclude on September 19 with immersion.

Every year thousands of idols are immersed in Hussain Sagar. Huge idols are brought to the lake in a mammoth procession which starts from Balapur on the city outskirts.

NGOs, environmental activists and eminent citizens have been voicing concern over the pollution in the lake and demanding curbs on immersion.

One month after joining BSP, RS Praveen Kumar is almost forgotten now

0

It’s been one month since senior IPS officer RS Praveen Kumar quit his plum post and plunged himself into politics in Telangana. He has joined the Bahujan Samaj Party. But, how has the journey been? This is the question tormenting his friends and foes alike. What has he achieved and is he going in the right direction?

Honest insiders admit that the moment he joined the BSP, he had lost the initiative. The very Dalit groups, in whose name Praveen Kumar swears, are not with him. The Dalits seem not really enthusiastic about his political foray. In the last 15 days, he has attended only one organisational rally. He addressed a meeting of the BSP workers in Rangareddy district. Beyond that there is literally no political activity on his front. This shows the lack of enthusiasm among the Dalits about his political activity.

In the last 15 days, he met an ailing Manda Krishna Madiga, Congress Dalit leader Addanki Dayakar of Thungathurthi and the family of the girl who was gangraped in Singareni Colony in Hyderabad. But for an occasional tweet about Chakali Ailamma or Ganesh Chaturthi, there is literally no activity on his social media too. Fund crunch and lack of interest among the Dalits is said to be the chief reasons for the lack of activity. Sources say that no big name has joined the BSP during the last one month. No Swaero, the gurukul alumni that he had so fondly nurtured, is with him now.

RS Praveen Kumar must now be realising that running gurukul schools with the support of the government machinery is one thing and running a political movement is another thing. With schemes like Dalit Bandhu, the Dalit community would rather prefer to be with the political elite than with a challenger like RS Praveen Kumar.

Collectors freeze accounts of Dalit Bandhu beneficiaries in Huzurabad

0

The ambitious Dalit Bandhu scheme, it appears, is turning out to be a proverbial millstone around the neck of the TRS government in Telangana. While the announcements have been dandy, the implementation seems to be problematic. Despite all the hype and hoopla, there seems to be distrust over the scheme. The TRS thinking heads feel that the whole scheme might even boomerang on the ruling party.

There have been doubts over the Dalit Bandhu scheme from the beginning. It was always touted as a scheme that is being implemented in Huzurabad only with an eye on the bypolls. Then it was implemented in Vasalamarri village of Nalgonda district to show that it was not linked to elections. At the same time, there were doubts as to whether the scheme would ever be implemented in the whole constituency of Huzurabad. So, the government had completed a survey to prove its sincerity. But, there were doubts that the whole exercise would be limited to just surveys. The government then released Rs 2000 and has transferred the amounts into the accounts of 13000 chosen beneficiaries.

So far so good. Now when the beneficiaries are trying to withdraw the amounts, they were in for a shock. They were told by the bank officials that their accounts were freezed as per the directives of the collectorate. They were told that they would have to explain how the amounts would be spent and that the funds would be allowed to be withdrawn only if they start a beneficial business. This only means that despite having money in their accounts, they cannot withdraw them unless they start a profitable business.

When some beneficiaries went with proposals such as buying a cab or a tractor, the collector refused to release the amount saying they were not profit-making. With this, the beneficiaries returned home empty-handed. This is now turning out to be a huge issue in Huzurabad and the TRS leaders are beginning to feel that the whole scheme is ricocheting on them.

Unfriendly regime, bleak industrial outlook drive away investments from AP

0

Comparisons are being drawn between Telangana and AP over how they are attracting big companies to invest in the state. While Telangana is walking the extra mile in luring the big investors, the AP government’s ways and the political interference are driving the industrialists away. While Telangana is rolling out a red-carpet to the investors, the situation in AP is driving people out.

Last week, Mahindra and Mahindra CEO CP Gurnani visited Telangana to inaugurate a couple of oxygen plants. KTR was there in tow rolling out a red-carpet to him. Ditto with Kitex company of Kerala. The Telangana government requisitioned a chartered flight to take him to Warangal and show him the lands. By evening Kitex announced investments worth Rs 1000 crore.

On the contrary, the companies are fleeing from AP. The Lulu Group, which promised to invest huge amounts, has fled the state. The automobile major Kia has put on hold its expansion plans in AP. The Reliance is all set to leave Chittoor, where it was allocated lands. The story of Amararaja Batteries is also well-known.

What is worrisome is the fact that even the public sector investments are fleeing the state. The Rs 4500 crore LNG terminal project near Gangavaram is now being shifted to Gopalpur in Odisha. Ditto with GAIL’s floating LNG project near Kakinada port. Not a single new investment has come to AP after 2019. This will affect the industrial outlook in AP on a long-term basis.
