Actor-politician Vijayashanti unhappy with BJP leadership in Telangana

Veteran actress and BJP national executive member M. Vijayashanti on Thursday expressed unhappiness with the party’s Telangana unit leadership.

The former MP alleged that the party leadership wants him to remain silent. The actress, however, remarked that she always likes playing key roles.

Vijayashanti voiced unhappiness while talking to reporters after a programme at the party’s state office where senior leader and MP K. Laxman offered tributes to freedom fighter Sardar Papanna Goud on his birth anniversary.

She said she wanted to speak at the programme. She said Laxman came, spoke and left and she could not understand what was happening.

Vijayashanti also remarked that party’s state chief Bandi Sanjay and Laxman should know how to use her services for the party. “I can do something when the party gives me the responsibility. Without giving any responsibility, how can they expect me to do something,” she asked.

“Ask the party leaders” she quipped when asked why she was denied an opportunity to speak.

Vijayashanti also remarked that she always plays a key role. “I always play the top role. Ramulamma is always Ramulamma,” she said referring to her movie with the title Ramulamma.

It was in December 2020 that Vijayahanti returned to BJP after 15 years.

Popular as ‘Lady Amitabh’ for her action roles in Telugu films, Vijayashanti had joined the BJP in 1997 and served as general secretary of the party’s women’s wing.

She quit the BJP in 2005 to float a separate outfit, Talli Telangana, to fight for separate statehood for Telangana.

She later merged Talli Telangana with TRS and was elected to the Lok Sabha from the Medak constituency in 2009.

In August 2013, a few months before the formation of Telangana state, TRS suspended Vijayashanti for anti-party activities.

She later joined the Congress party and unsuccessfully contested from the Medak Assembly constituency in the 2014 polls.

After lying low for four years, Vijayashanti again became active in Congress in 2017 and was named its star campaigner for the party in 2018 Assembly polls. After the party’s debacle, she was not active in the party and returned to BJP in 2020.

Vijayashanti, whose film career spans nearly four decades, has acted in over 180 films in Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada and Hindi.

Her movie appearances had become rare from 1999 after she started focussing on politics.

After a sabbatical of 13 years, she returned to silver screen in 2020 with ‘Sarileru Neekevvaru’, which stars popular actor Mahesh Babu in the lead.

Vijayasanti goodbye to Congress, to join BJP for GHMC polls

Congress party star campaigner Vijayasanti is leaving the party. She is all set to join the Bharatiya Janata Party in Delhi in the presence of its national president JP Nadda tomorrow. The BJP is planning to use Ramulamma services in the campaign for the GHMC polls. The BJP is bent upon giving a tough fight to the TRS in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation polls.

The BJP is also thinking of using Vishasanti star status for campaigning all over South India. She has got considerable fan following in Tamil Nadu.

BJP senior Telangana leaders like DK Aruna have already welcomed the entry of Vishasanti into the party fold. She has described this as a clear indication of how more leaders are getting attracted to the BJP’s capable and efficient leadership in the country now.

The BJP strategies to win the GHMC polls are certainly causing more damage to the Congress than the TRS. The rising competition between different parties is eroding the Congress base. If the Congress doesn’t match these strategies, it may suffer losses just like in Dubbaka where it was reduced to a third position.

Vijayashanti meets J P Nadda

Actress-turned politician and former MP Vijayashanti, who earned the sobriquet Lady Amitabh Bachchan, is all set to join the BJP sometime after Diwali.
According to sources, Vijayashanti met BJP national president J P Nadda. Sources said Vijayashanti has expressed her willingness to join the saffron party.

Viyashanti began her political innings with the BJP in 1998, and later floated “Talli Telangana”. Subsequently, she merged Talli Telangana with the TRS. She was elected to Lok Sabha but was suspended from the TRS.

Following differences with the party leadership, the former Medak MP joined Congress in February 2014 and unsuccessfully contested from Medak assembly constituency on a Congress ticket. Like Khusbhoo, Vijayshanti has been miffed with the Congress leadership and kept away from the party activities. Vijayashanti has remained aloof from the Congress for some time now.

However, Kusum Kumar attributed her absence to the prevailing Covid-19 pandemic. He said there are no differences among the Telangana Congress leaders.

Telangana PCC working president Jetti Kusum Kumar had recently met Vijayashanti to prevail upon her not to leave the party. Minister of state for home Kishan Reddy and BJP state president Bandi Sanjay Kumar had several meetings with Vijayashanti where they impressed upon her to join the national party.

Why KCR not campaigning for Federal Front in other states?

Telangana Ramulamma mocked and cracked jokes on the Federal Front of CM Chandrasekhar Rao. Why is KCR not moving out of Hyderabad to campaign for his front in other states? Vijayashanti, presently Congress Campaign Committee Chairperson, recalled how KCR visited Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal prior to elections. He made tall claims about how regional parties would be brought into his front.

Ramulamma’s mocking statements assumed significance as unlike KCR, there’s AP CM Chandrababu Naidu who is being invited by different parties to campaign for them in different states. Naidu already campaigned for the JDS in Karnataka. Is it a fact that nobody is inviting KCR to campaign for them? Vijayashanti is leaving no chance to embarrass the TRS leadership. Her latest comments followed political speculation that Federal Front couldn’t get expected patronage because of lack of trust in KCR. In national politics, Chandrababu exposed KCR’s secret deal with PM Modi. So, regional parties are very cautious about KCR.

What made Vijayashanti, VH engage in war of words?

Congress star campaigner Vijayashanti and former PCC president V Hanumantha Rao, popularly known as VH, were publicly seen in a row over disagreeing on something and trying to stop each other from making a public speech. This incident took place during a road show of Congress party at Gajwel, Sddipet district.

Congress party has turned keen on Gajwel constituency, the home constituency of Telangana chief minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, and has deployed all its senior leaders and star campaigners in Medak Lok Sabha constituency, where Anilkumar is contesting from the grand old party.

Congress is known for internal democracy and Gandhibhavan has been witnessing such freedom of leaders, who often disagree with others and resort to protest against decisions of TPCC.

For an unknown reason, Vijayashanti and VH had a war of words on the vehicle top during the roadshow. As a result, both the leaders Vijayashanti and Kusumkumar left the roadshow abruptly. When the Congress MP candidate Anil Kumar got a chance to speak, there’s no public to hear the speech.

“It’s nothing major. Several senior leaders were participating in the roadshow. So, to get every leader to speak, all the leaders already told to speak briefly. Vijayashanti, working president Kusumkumar, Ramulu Naik and other leaders spoke. When VH got his turn to speak, Vijayashanti asked him to finish the speech quickly. But, VH got angry over it and questioned Vijayashanti for disturbing him. This confrontation led to a bit of exchanging of words. Vijayashanti and Kusumkumar immediately withdrew from the roadshow,” said a leader, who took part in the roadshow.

Hope Pawan won’t fall into the trap of KCR : Ramulamma

Congress leader and actress Vijayashanti leaves no opportunity to make sarcastic comments against KCR and his TRS party. This time, Ramulamma is analysing the recent KCR-Pawan Kalyan meeting at Raj Bhavan in her own way. She says KCR’s main agenda is obviously not formation of Federal Front at the national level but it is to make Pawan Kalyan support Jaganmohan Reddy in AP assembly election.

Ramulamma feels Pawan may not fall in the trap of KCR this time as the Jana Senani knows full well how untrustworthy is the TRS chief. It is well known KCR has opted to ally with the Telugu Desam Party in 2009 and not the Praja Rajyam Party of actor Chiranjeevi at that time.

Vijayashanti has also asked why KCR has not gone to AP to discuss Federal Front issue with Jaganmohan Reddy as he said before. Instead of doing that, KCR preferred to hold meetings with Pawan Kalyan which is proof enough of his manipulations to intrude into the AP politics, she said. Vijayashanti is of the opinion that Pawan has full clarity about the TRS chief’s gimmicks which indicated Jana Senani’s highly unlikelihood of joining hands with Jagan.

Put an end to KCR’s rule from farm house, Vijayashanti asks voters

Congress party star campaigner Vijayashanti has addressed election meetings in Karimanagar for victory of party candidates. Speaking on the occasion, she criticised CM K. Chandrasekhara Rao for what she described as his unjust rule without coming to Secretariat, which is the seat of administration for any government.

Vijayawshanti accused KCR of having ruled the state by staying in his farm house rather than winning the trust of administration and officials to pass benefits of development to people. She appealed to the voters to reject KCR’s rule in December early elections and elect Mahakutami candidates to bring in a responsible government.

Referring to women leaders in TRS, Vijayashanti said that KCR has not given ministry to a single woman in his Cabinet which showed his lack of respect to women leaders. She said that the Congress has given tickets to nearly 10 women candidates to contest in the present elections.
Meanwhile, senior leader Marri Shashidhar Reddy blamed Congress Telangana President Uthamkumar Reddy for the party not giving Sanathnagar ticket to him. Shashidhar has worked hard to grab attention a months ago when he filed cases against early elections on behalf of the Congress party. He has expressed strong discontent against party leadership and decided to plan for his future course of action after holding discussions with his followers.

Ramulamma may contest from Medak segment

The Congress high command has decided to field actress turned politician Vijayashanti in next month’s election in Telangana. The leadership is confident that Ramulamma will be a sure shot winning candidate, who will increase chances for the party as a whole.

Political circles are rife with rumours till now that Ramulamma may contest from Dubbaka or Kukatpally assembly constituency. But the Congress Screening Committee has come out with another possibility. Vijayashanti may be asked to contest from Medak segment itself as she has previous exposure here and she won Medak MP seat in 2009. Cinema glamour is considered a big asset for Vijayashanti in this far-flung backward area.

In the beginning of the election campaign, there were reports that Vijayashanti was not interested in contesting this election and that she would just act as the star campaigner for the party. She has grabbed enough attention in her unsparing attacks on the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS). Considering her star appeal and celebrity status, the high command has later asked Vijayashanti to get ready for entry into the electoral fight from a suitable constituency. The Screening Committee will take a final call soon on her segment.

Who is facing Osey Ramulamma troubles?

Under KCR family’s rule, the Telangana people have faced troubles and tragedies quite similar to those of main character Ramulamma in the film “Osey Ramulamma”.

These are the words of Congress party’s star campaigner and actress Vijayashanti who kicked off her electioneering after offering puja at the famous Jogulamba Devi Temple at Alampur in Gadwal district on Thursday.

“Osey Ramulamma” was a hugely successful revenge drama in its time two decades ago and the film went on to capture imagination of Telangana’s rural masses and held them spellbound for several years. It portrayed an abused rustic bonded labour girl taking revenge against the evil landlord. Vijayashanti played the main role.

Ever since, wherever the star goes, the film legacy goes with her.

Now Vijayashanti likened the situation of Telangana people to that of Ramulamma to apparently make KCR and family look like villains of 2019 elections. In her speeches, she also deplored that the rule of ‘exploitating Doras’ (KCR’s community) has come back after statehood was achieved.

She lamented that so many sacrifices were made to make Telangana a reality and all this seemed now as if all that had happened for the benefit only one family that is KCR’s. As a result, the past days of bonded life and unbearable slavery appeared to have returned as well.

Vijayashanti has mounted this scathing attack on KCR on the very first day of her campaign, which has also taken Mahakutami activists present there by surprise. Recalling her days in TRS, she asked as to why KCR promised to protect her like a sister but later suspended her from the party altogether without giving any reason for that. She said KCR was a leader with no principles and one who will deceive others for no reason.

But analysts are doubtful whether Mahakutami can rise to the occasion and dethrone KCR. He has shown in 2014 how he mesmerised people by claiming all the glory for separate statehood and won while Congress struggled hard despite having granted statehood and simply lost.

A campaign watcher says that it is Vijayashanti who is facing tragedies of Ramulamma in real life considering her film and political career falling on bad days for quite some time.

Telangana Ramulamma not contesting in 2019?

Vijayashanti of Osey Ramulamma fame is not going to contest in 2019 elections in Telangana but she will be rendering her services as the star campaigner for Congress-TDP alliance there. Once the Lady Amitab of South Indian film industry, Ramulamma could not get a similar success in political scene going by her increasingly low-profile these days.

Having vowed to defeat TRS, Vijayashanti has met Congress President Rahul Gandhi recently and explained to him how she would be touring the nook and corner of Telangana as part of her election campaign. She also indicated her unwillingness to contest elections this time. She has been telling her followers and friends about her decision to stay away from electoral politics without giving any obvious reasons for this.

Insiders say that Vijayashanti has taken this decision considering the fact that she will not be getting a winnable seat of her choice because of the party facing the issue of seat sharing with alliance partners. Moreover, she has no friendly relations with any leader in newly found ally, TDP.

Despite the actress’s decision, Congress leadership is keen to use the services of Vijayashanti in campaign as she still carries enough charisma among the rural masses in Telangana who remember her for her excellent presentation of lead role in the film Ramulamma. The party high command also supported her star campaigner status.

Vijayashanti also has old political scores to settle with KCR as he has thrown her out of TRS without giving any reasons for that. At that time, the actor-turned-politician has claimed that KCR was afraid that KTR and Kavita would not get an elevated image as long as Vijayashanti is in TRS.

In politics as in films, necessity scores over need sometimes and Ramulamma is not an exception for this.

Can Congress Rely On Vijayashanthi Now?

The Telangana Congress is desperately looking for stars who can turn out the party’s fate, with just less than 16 months left for the general elections.

The party leadership is not completely satisfied, even though firebrand Kodangal MLA A Revanth Reddy has given some sort of strength with his entry. To rejuvenate the party cadres, the party requires some star campaigners. As Congress legislature party leader and veteran K Jana Reddy put it, the party requires more than one Baahubali to resurrect the party.

And perhaps, that was the reason why the Congress high command suddenly remembered senior actress and former MP M Vijayashanti. During the Telangana movement, Vijayashanti played a major role. She is a powerful speaker and also a hard core Telangana activist. For a meeting with AICC vice-president Rahul Gandhi, she was summoned to Delhi on Tuesday for a meeting.

Besides a key position in the AICC as well, Vijayashanti is likely to be made in-charge of the party’s campaign committee in Telangana, as per reports from New Delhi. But, at this sudden development, the party ranks are much surprised. According to them, Vijayashanti is a spent force and has almost been forgotten by the people and the party leaders. Following her defeat in 2014 elections, she has not been staying away from active politics. The last time one had heard about her was when she called on jailed AIADMK leader Sasikala. It led to the rumours that she would join Tamil politics, calling it quits for the Telangana.

So, doubts have arouse whether Vijayashanti would be of any use to the Telangana Congress. She will become a competitor for many leaders who are aspiring for big positions, on the other hand. Rather than spent forces like Vijayashanti who make guest appearances in the party, the Congress should look for real leaders.

Vijayashanti finds a new home

Vijayashanti met Rahul Gandhi

Lady super star Vijayashanti, who went into political hibernation after 2014 elections after getting defeated in the hands of Padma Devender Reddy, has suddenly become active now. She has met party in-charge Kuntia today. Later she met national vice-president Rahul Gandhi too today. Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president, Uttam Kumar Reddy was present at the meet.

Vijayashanti is planning to play a key role in Telangana Congress party during the elections in 2019. She is also expecting some important posts, like member of All India Congress Committee (AICC) as well as member of a Publicity Committee of the party. Congress Telangana in-charge RC Kuntia has confirmed that Vijayashanti will play an active role in Telangana politics, will campaign for the party, will attend all party meetings and work to strengthen the party.

Congress party and Rahul Gandhi seem to have focused on Telangana state as they believe they have chances on winning as their party only granted statehood to Telangana. Recently firebrand Revanth Reddy joined Congress. Vijaya shanti, who also is a firebrand, became active now. We have to wait and see whether they will help Rahul Gandhi achieve his dream of coming into power in Telangana.

Is Vijayashanti set to comeback to TRS?

Will Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) bring back all its former  leaders, including Vijayashanti, to its fold.

According to media reports, after poaching on Congress and TDP , TRS is now ready to condone and accept its former leaders such as Vijayashanti, Vijayaramarao, K Chandrasekhar etc.

Interestingly,  T Jayaprakash Reddy, who is known for his virulent attacks on KCR and his family, also is not averse to rejoin the party, the reports said. All these  leaders left TRS following their differences with  party president K Chandrasekhar Rao some time back.

Vijaya Shanti left the party before  2014 election after she fell from the grace of  KCR. She joined Congress before the elections and contested from Medak Assembly Constituency.

She, however, lost to TRS’ Madhava Reddy Gari Padma.  Once super star in Telugu Movies, Vijayashanti made her debut in to politics by joining BJP in 1998. She was made chief of woman’s wing of united Andhra Pradesh. She was even named  party candidate against the Sonia Gandhi when the latter was planning to contest from Kadapa Lok Sabha constituency .

Later, she quit BJP and floated a  Telangana outfit Talli Telangana, when the T-movement was at its peak.  Later, KCR managed her to merge the party with  TRS. The party fielded her from Medak Lok Sabha constituency and she won .

Having no role in Congress and marginalized by  new generation leaders, Vijayashanti is said to be thinking of returning back to TRS. Media reports say she is in touch with Irrigation minister T Harish Rao.

Those who are thinking on the similar lines, according media reports, are former minister Dr Vijayaramarao (Warangal), Duggira Srinivasa Rao (palakurthi), A Chandrasekhar (Vikarabad) and A Arvind Reddy( Machiryal).
