TDP to do YSRC in Telangana

0

Strange are the ways of the politicians in Telugu states. Once Telanana’s arch rival YSRC president Jagan is now a friend of KCR family. TDP once an ally of TRS, is its enemy number 1. Once believed to merge, TRS and Congress are now competing to liquidate each other in politics. Another strange twist is happening in Telangana now . The TDP, is going to hit the road in the new state like Jagan, who is on unending yatra in Andhra Pradesh against farmers’ suicides. In Andhra the YSRC president alleges the suicides in the state have been the result of incomplete loan waiver as the loan installments have only added up to woes of the farmers forcing them to take extreme step of ending their life.

In Telangana, the TDP has taken up same cause and with the same logic. The party is demanding an one-time settlement of debt under loan waiver scheme. The party has set a deadline to TRS government to announce one-time settlement by October 9 or face state wide bandh on October 10. Only difference is in Andhra Pradesh Jagan, true to his dominant nature, is fighting alone, in Telangana the TDP is making common cause with Congress, CPI, CPM, BJP and many other left parties.

The Telangana Telugu Desam Party announced that it was planning a bus yatra in protest against the “anti farmer” policies of Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao’s TRS government. The bus yatras will be organized in association with BJP, it ally. T-TDP president L Ramana and Polit Bureau member R Chandrasekhar Reddy launched their bus yatra today. They expressed concern that the agriculture sector is in crisis and the entire Opposition had been mounting pressure on the government to stop the chain of suicides in the State. They also demanded remunerative prices to farmers. They demanded that the government implement one- time waiver of loans for farmers as assured and moratorium on the loans obtained from the private money lenders to provide relief to farmers which were dire financial stress which was forcing them to commit suicide. on Tuesday, both TDP and BJP started protest fast on the same issue in Gajwel, the constituency of chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao.

“Suspending the entire opposition from Assembly is undemocratic step and shows the dictatorial attitude of chief minister KCR. The manner in which Chandrasekhar Rao is harping on Krishna pushkarams due only next year exposes how serious the government is tackling the crisis faced by farmers,” Ramana said.

They said about 1,535 farmers committed suicide in different parts of the State during the 15-month TRS government rule.

Jagan to launch fast from October 7

0

YSRC party president and Opposition leader YS Jaganmohan Reddy will launch his indefinite fast from October 7 from Guntur. The party decided on the date today and it was announced by party senior leader Botcha Satyanarayana today. “Our party delegation will meet the police officials to submit the fresh proposal on Jaganmohan Reddy’s fast. We are suggesting an alternative place as well. We are hopeful that the officials will permit the fast in the new place. We have changed the venue as per the advice of the Police senior officials,” Botcha said.

Jagan rescheduled his fast ,which was to start from today, in the ground opposite AC College in Guntur. But, police denied permission stating that the program would affect the traffic as the venue was in close proximity to the hospital and educational institutions. Police also cited the possible disturbance the fast program would cause to the Ganesh Nimajjnam Yatra.

They suggest some alternate veune. Unhappy at the police decision, the party tried to move House Motion yesterday, but the court asked the party to come with regular petition on Monday as Friday being holiday on account of Bakrid. “But, in the interest of state and people we climbed down from out decision not to file the petition against the police decision in High Court. Police suggested us to choose an alternative venue. Our delegation is meeting the police today with alternative venue for October 7 fast,” Botcha said.

” We did not hesitate to relax from our stand as for us special status is important. Jobs for students and youth is our objective. Development of the state is our aim. So, we have no objection to submit our letter to the police with a new venue,” Botcha said.

Dismissing the argument that indefinite fast was not permissible by law, Botcha said it was universally acknowledged form of agitation from ages. If it was not permissible, India would not have achieved Independence and Andhra separat state. Our freedom and Andhr state were the result of the fast undertaken by Mahatma Gandhi and Potti Sriramulu,” Botcha said adding that ,”come what may,
Jagan will not call off his indefinite fast.”

Jagan fast deferred; YSRCP to move court Monday

0

The opposition YSR Congress Party has postponed the proposed indefinite fast by president YS Jaganmohan Reddy, which was to commence from Saturday from Guntur. The fast is meant to exert pressure on the centre to bestow special status on Andhra Pradesh as assured by the governments- both UPA and NDA. The deeksha is the first step to launch a Telangana like movement for the special status and against TDP governments for its failure to get the special status announced by the NDA government in which it was a partner. The YSRC political advisory committee, which met here, in the backdrop of the denial of permission by Guntur police and Hyderabad High Court’s refusal to hear the House Motion, decided to put off the fast for some time. While refusing to entertain the House Motion on Friday, a Holiday, the court advised the party to file a regular petition.

“We will file the petition in court on Monday. Chandrababu Naidu himself has gone on fast at Delhi and also at MLA quarters and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa went on a hunger strike on the Cauvery water issue. We have full faith in judiciary and the fast will be taken up once we get a clearance from the court. Till such a date, the indefinite fast stands postponed,” YSRC deputy floor leader in the Assembly P Ramachandra Reddy said. The party will announce the fresh date for the deeksha and the course of action depending upon the orders from the court.

Putting the chief minister Naidu’s government on notice, Jagan announced on the floor of the House that he would sit on indefinite fast if Naidu failed to get the special status accorded to the state in 15 days. First it was decided to take up the Deeksha from second week. Later because of Vinakayaka Chavithi and Bakrid it was postponed to September 26. But, citing possible dislocation the Deeksha would cause to the traffic and Ganesh Nimajjan procesion, Guntur police denied permission.

‘Stop Pattiseema & complete Polavaram’

0

Stating that there was an urgency to supply water to Rayalaseema, YSR Congress demanded the TDP government to put the Pattiseema on hold and complete the Polavaramp project on war-footing. The party asked the TDP to stop deceiving people and dubbed the Pattiseema project as fraud and the interlinking of rivers was fake.

‘Inter-linking of rivers through Pattiseema is a waste of public money and it does not serve the intended purpose with faulty workmanship and we demand the government to expedite Polavaram which will benefit the people of Rayalaseema and Krishna delta,’ party spokesperson Perni Nani said here on Monday.

Though the project was declared open, the pattiseema is not linking the rivers as the work on aqueducts seems to be semi-finished.

‘It is only a showmanship but in reality there is hardly any benefit from the Pattiseema project while the benefits of Polavaram are permanent in nature which is why YSR has put in major efforts to bring the project to a take off stage,” Nani said.

‘We demand that Pattiseema should be put on hold and Polvaram should be taken up with all earnestness,’ he added.

Jagan to rope in students into SCS movement

0

YSR party president YS Jaganmona Reddy is planning to rope in youth and students into his campaign for the special category state (SCS)status to Andhra Pradesh in a big way. The participation of students is expected to electrify the movement for special status. In order to draw students and youth attraction, the party is highlighting the link between the employment potential and special category status.
So far, even though bandhs, protests and dharnas have been organized, the movement has mostly remained as a partys’ affair. This has not percolated down into the students and youth community.

As part of this strategy he is participating in a convention of students in Tirupati on Tuesday. Originally the meeting was to be held at Srivenkateswara University Auditorium. However, the state government denied permission to the YSRCP student wing for organizing the convention aimed at educating the students on the benefits of special State status to Andhra Pradesh especially in the creation of employment opportunities for students. party MLA RK Roja alleges that education minister, Ganta Srinivasa Rao instructed university officials not to permit the political programs in the auditorium.

In the meantime, Jagan addressed a preparatory meeting of youth and students wings of the party at Lotus Pond , Hyderabad. on Monday. He said the special category state status to Andhra Pradesh is prerequisite for the development and employment creation.

For the first time, YSRC harsh on KCR govt

0

For the first time, YSR Congress directly blamed the TRS Government in Telangana for the increasing number of suicides and its u-turn in keeping up the promise of loan waiver. YSR Congress said that for the past 15 months the KCR government has failed totally in coming to the rescue of the farmers.

‘TRS has included in the manifesto that it would waive loans up to Rs 1 lakh on coming to power, but has failed in keeping up the promise and has put the scheme on a staggered basis,’ YSRC Telangana president P Srinivas Reddy said. Reddy, however, took care not to utter name of chief minister KCR in his reaction. The party has never been harsh towards Telangana government and TRS party and it has been reciprocated. There have never been attempts to stall the visits of either YS Vijayalakshmi or Sharmila. YSR Congress supported TRS in Council elections. TDP used this not-so-open cooperation to attack TRS and YSRC alleging they were colluded. As if to prove this point, Jagan was more strident in his demand that Naidu be made A1 in cash-for-vote scam than the TRS.

In this backdrop came the harsh reaction against TRS government from Lotus Pond. Probably, the growing resentment from the opposition might have forced the YSRCP also to take a clear stand. The Jagan’s party lamented that while the number of suicides was on the rise, n exgratia had been paid so far.

‘We appeal to the farmers not to commit suicides as it is not the answer to the problems but should fight it out and assure that we will take up the issue with the right earnest,’ he said.

The loan waiver in piece-meal system would be of no use to the farmers, he added.

‘The farmers have poured their woes during the Paramarsa Yatra of Sharmila in Warangal district and wanted the YSR type of governance back as it was farmer-friendly,’ he said.

Jagan’s fast to begin from Sept 26

0

Opposition leader and YSRCP president YS Jaganmohan Reddy will sit on an indefinite diksha on September 26, in Guntur, to mount pressure on the state and centre to accord special category status to Andhra Pradesh. Earlier it was announced that he would sit on indefinite fast from September 15. But the program was put off due to Vinakaya Chavithi.

“As the State has failed to mount pressure on the Centre, in spite of being its coalition partner. The Centre has gone back on its word. So YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, after a two-day fast at Mangalagiri, one day dhrna at Delhi and one day State bandh, now has decided to go on indefinite fast at Guntur pressing for the issue,” Jyothula Nehru, deputy floor leader of the party, told media after a high-level meeting.

Jagan has given 15-day time for Naidu to get the special status accorded to the state by the centre or face the indefinite fast. Today, the party top-brass met at Lotus Pond office and decided the date of Jagan’s dikshs.

The party is going to mobilize party workers in a big way to the launch of the fast in Guntur.

BJP wants Pattiseema to be named after Chandrababu

0

Chief minister Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday turned tables on YSRCP Congress by asking the party to state whether it would support the Pattiseema project or not. So far, YSRCP has been posing the irksome question to chief minister Naidu to tell the people whether he was supporting the special status of not.

Today, state assembly took up Pattiseema Project issue for the debate. As the opposition leader Jagan was away in Pulivendula to participate in death anniversary of YS Rasekhar Reddy, deputy leader J Nehru spoke on the subject. Elaborating on the benefits of Pattiseema project, being taken up on Godavari, Naidu said the project was meant to divert Krishna water to Rayalaseema, which is a drought prone area.
“We want transfer 80 TMC Godavari water to Krishna barrage. The water thus saved in Krishna will be transferred to Rayalaseema. Now tell if you are opposed to taking water to Rayalaseema which was the objective of Pattiseema, or not,” Naidu asked and wanted straight answer.

YSR Congress leader Jyothula Nehru found difficult to answer in clear ‘yes’ or ‘no’ . He said his party was not opposed to linking of the rivers, but they were opposed to the way the project was being implemented. “We are opposed to the motive behind the construction of Pattiseema when Polavaram was to be taken up with more benefits. Pattiseema is not a irrigation project, but a money spinning project,” he said.

BJP floor leader, Vishnukumar Raju, who normally used to take critical stand against TDP on many issues, this time, became cheerleader of chief minister Naidu. He said as a civil engineer he knew more about Pattiseema than Nehru. ” It is amazing that the state government is able to finish the project in just eight months and one should appreciate the efforts of chief minister Naidu. Going an extra mile, he suggested to the house that the project should be named as “Chandranna Pattiseema scheme” to the cheers from the treasury benches.

Then Nehru described the BJP as the tail of TDP, which was objected to by Raju stating, BJP could cut tails of YSRCP if it wants. Chief minister also defended BJP stating that it was a national party and there was nothing wrong in Raju’s appreciation of TDP’s work.

YSRC Cries Foul at TDP’s Corruption in MLC election

0

YSRCP demanded that TDP candidate Magunta Srinivasulu Reddy be declared not qualified to remain in contest in elections to legislative Council from local bodies constituency of Prakasam district.

A delegation consisting of deputy leader in Assembly J Nehru, party senior leader Prof Umareddy Venkateswarlu etc met state election chief Banwarlal on Wednesday to lodge a comlaint against Srinivasulu Reddy.

They said Reddy was trying to buy out voters, MPTC members, by offering Rs. 2.5 lakh per vote. They also said Reddy was holding all these MPTC at an unknown place to prevent them from voting freely in the election. They handed over CDs containing the versions of YSRC members who were offered money by TDP candidate to Banwarlal.

YS Jaganmohan Reddy-Profile

0

YS Jaganmohan Reddy is the founder of YSR Congress Party, the main opposition in the Andhra Pradesh assembly.

Born to former chief minister YS Rajashekara Reddy on December 21, 1972, YS Jaganmohan Reddy entered Congress party after his father became chief minister for the first time in 2004.

In 2009, when the state went for general elections, Jagan contested for the Lok Sabha seat from Kadapa constituency with and won with an overwhelming majority. After sudden demise of his father, Jagan was unhappy with Congress. Subsequently, he resigned from Congress party along with his mother YS Vijayamma.

Jagan formed YSR (Yuvajana Sramika Raithu) party, which coincides with the initials of his father YSR. The sympathy wave and developmental programmes taken up by YSR between 2004 and 2009 gave decent political mileage to YSR as his party emerged as a strong alternative to Congress and TDP.

However, he apparently faced corruption charges and was sent to judicial remand for 16 months. He is currently the opposition leader in AP assembly and fights on farmers’ issues.  Jaganmohan Reddy displayed placards in Lok Sabha against the formation of Telangana state and categorically demanded that both the regions—Seemandhra and Telangana be done justice.

Jagan’s odarpu yatra (condolence tour) to extend solidarity to YSR’s admirers post his demise received thumping response.  YSRCP is regarded as the only alternative to ruling TDP in Andhra Pradesh.
