Actor turned politician Thalapathy Vijay has finally opened up about the hapless stampede incident in Karur that claimed 41 lives and injured many. After stampede,Vijay immediately stopped the political gathering and left the spot without talking to the media or addressing the issue. He later announced 20 lakhs compensation to each of the deceased. However, he has been facing serious backlash for not meeting the families of victims.
Reacting for the first time since the heart wrenching tragedy, Vijay released a video statement on Tuesday afternoon and urged Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin not to target his party supporters over this accident. In an emotional outburst, Vijay said ” FIRs have been filed against my party functionaries. Stalin sir, don’t touch them or do any harm to them. If you want revenge, do whatever you want to me. I will be at my house or office”.
He further admitted, “My heart is full of pain and I haven’t faced such a painful situation. People question why I didn’t come back to Karur. It is only because of my love for you. From now on, people’s safety is my first priority. We ask for secure venues only for their protection. But what should not have happened, happened. I am also human, aren’t I ? Vijay firmly affirmed that “all truth will come out soon”. He assured to meet all victims very soon and offer every possible support.
Meanwhile, an FIR has been booked and further investigation is underway. Two office bearers of the TVK were on Tuesday sentenced to 14 days judicial custody. The FIR names three senior organisers of Vijay’s Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) — district secretary Mathiyalagan, state general secretary ‘Bussy’ Anand, and deputy general secretary Nirmal Kumar.
