Lokesh meets Governor, complaints on drug mafia

0

Former minister and TDP general secretary Nara Lokesh on Saturday met Governor S Abdul Nazeer at Raj Bhavan and complained to him about the increasing drug mafia in the state. Senior leader and Legislative Council former chairman, M A Sharif, former ministers Nakka Ananda Babu and Kollu Ravindra also accompanied Lokesh to the Raj Bhavan.

Lokesh gave a representation to the Governor explaining how Andhra Pradesh had become the epicentre of drug peddling in the country. He said that the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) had named Andhra Pradesh as the leading state with drug activities.

The former minister also told the Governor that the drugs are being supplied in the schools and colleges across the state. The youth and students are also being used for the drug and Ganja supply in the country, he said.

He said that on September 19, 2021, Mundra Port officials in Gujarat had seized Rs 9,000 crore worth of heroin, which was supplied from a company with its base in Vijayawada. He said that the company had earlier supplied Rs 22,000 crore worth of heroine from Andhra Pradesh.

Lokesh also told the Governor that the ruling YSR Congress leaders were also engaged in the drug mafia in the state. He submitted newspaper clips relating to the police arresting smugglers along with the seized Ganja and heroine in the state in the last four years.

He expressed concern over the use of Ganja in the state among the youth and said that two minors have killed a watchman in Guntur under the influence of drugs. He wanted the Governor to intervene and order an inquiry into the illicit activities in the state and the role of the ruling party leaders.

Andhra govt employees seek Governor’s intervention for salaries

1

Andhra Pradesh Government Employees Association (APGEA) on Thursday sought Governor Biswa Bhusan Harichandan’s intervention to ensure payment of salaries and pensions on time while another group of employees met Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy and warned those who called on the Governor.

A delegation of APGEA leaders led by its President K.R. Suryanarayana met the governor at Raj Bhavan and submitted a memorandum.

The delegation requested the governor to issue necessary advice to the government as he is competent authority as per the Article 309 of the Constitution to intervene in the affairs of the government employees.

After the meeting, APGEA leaders told reporters that they were compelled to meet the governor as all their efforts to resolve the grievances through the state government had failed.

Suryanarayana alleged that the state government is not honouring the commitment to pay the salaries and pensions on the first of every month. The APGEA leader said the government also withdrew the GPF amount from the accounts of over 90,000 employees without their permission. He termed this as a serious financial fraud.

The APGEA also decided to intensify the agitation from April if the government failed to resolve all their grievances. The association leaders said their demands were justified and recalled that the government had promised to pay salaries and pensions on the first of every month.

The employees’ leaders said the government had not even cleared the pending four Dearness Allowances (DAs). They claimed that the state government had to pay nearly Rs 10,000 crore to Rs 12,000 crore to employees.

Suryanarayana said though they met the Cabinet sub-committee, the government advisor and senior officials of the finance department, they did not receive a positive response on the issues raised by them.

Suryanarayana alleged that the government is not treating employees with dignity and decency.

The differences among government employees, however, came to the fore when another group met Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy and claimed that he was ready to address all their issues.

Andhra Pradesh Non-Gazetted Officers’ (APNGO) Association also slammed APGEA leaders who met the governor and warned that if employees’ unions don’t follow the rules, the government has the powers to derecognise them.

Bandi Srinivasa Rao, who was recently elected as the President of APNGO Association, along with general secretary K.V Siva Reddy and panel members called on the chief minister.

Srinivasa Rao dismissed the allegation by Suryanarayana that APNGO Association had colluded with the government. APNGO Association leader said government employees know the force working behind Suryanarayana.

Srinivasa Rao said the chief minister assured the delegation that he will immediately take steps to pay the DA which was due on Sankranthi. He claimed that the chief minister also told the delegation all their problems would be resolved.

Telugu states CMs, Governors pay rich tributes to Gandhiji

0

The governors and chief ministers of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana respectively, paid rich tributes to Mahatama Gandhi on his 73rd death anniversary on Saturday.

“Mahatama Gandhi, the father of the nation, showed a new way of campaigning with his weapons of prayer, request and protest to the world and emerged as an exemplary person,” said Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao.

He said Gandhiji’s nonviolence and satyagraha rejuvenated India’s freedom movement and even sacrificed his life for the country.

Rao said Gandhiji’s life proclaims that truth is the ultimate winner.

Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan, Municipal Administration Minister K. Taraka Rama Rao, Himachal Pradesh Governor Bandaru Dattatreya and others paid floral to Gandhiji at Bapu Ghat in the city.

Commemorating Gandhiji’s 73rd death anniversary, AP Governor Biswa Bhushan Harichandan said India is now a free country and has become a big power both militarily and economically because of the sacrifices made by great freedom fighters.

Harichandan reminded that people across the country fought the British rule on the call given by Gandhiji and when he asked the British to quit India.

“They could not believe that such a mighty British power could be driven out of the country by the peaceful and non-violent movement led by Mahatma Gandhi,” observed the Governor.

According to Harichandan, Gandhiji had the confidence that a day will come when the British will leave India, making the country a free nation.

He said leaders from many countries emulated Gandhi and followed his principles of ahimsa (non-violence) and satyagraha in their freedom movements.

Harichandan offered floral tributes to Gandhiji’s potrait at a programme organised at the Raj Bhavan’s Durbar Hall.

He and his office staff observed two minutes silence as a mark of respect to Gandhiji.

Chief Minister Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy offered floral tributes to Gandhiji at his residence, accompanied by Endowments Minister Vellampalli Srinivas, adviser Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy and others.

AP SEC so helpless, starts writing letters to Governor

1

For over a thousand times and more, State Election Commissioner Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar has asserted that the SEC is a constitutional institution that was vested with autonomous powers. But none of his decisions were being respected or implemented in the State.
The Governor’s office is also a constitutional institution. As such, the SEC has several times met and briefed him about the decisions on the local body elections. The SEC has even approached the court which issued orders in support of his decision to conduct polls in February. Even then, the Jagan Reddy Government did not bother to respect the existence of the State Election Commission in the State.
What more, the Jagan regime went to the extreme extent of passing a resolution in the Assembly against the SEC decision on the local body polls. Now, Nimmagadda has apparently lost his patience over his helplessness in front of the adamance of CM Jagan Reddy. He said that the Assembly resolution was unconstitutional. He wrote a letter straightaway to the Governor.
Ramesh Kumar said that the SEC has to conduct polls every five years. It was wrong to say that the SEC must take consent of the Government for this.

Ramesh Kumar complaints to Governor on Kodali Nani

1

State Election Commissioner Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar seems to be in no mood to take nonsense from the YSRCP leaders.

After a barrage of objectionable and derogatory remarks against him, Ramesh Kumar has now decided to take up the matter seriously.
The SEC on Thursday lodged a complaint with Andhra Pradesh Governor Biswabhushan Harichandan against Kodali Nani for the insidious remarks he made against the election commissioner.
Along with the letter, Ramesh Kumar has sent clippings of the remarks made by Kodali Nani to the Governor. In his letter, Ramesh Kumar stated that Kodali Nani was trying to instigate the employees against the state election commission. Ramesh Kumar sought immediate action against Kodali Nani.

Criticizing Ramesh Kumar, Kodali Nani said the government employees were not ready to take part in election duties due to the severity of Covid-19.

This is not the first time that Ramesh Kumar had faced derogatory remarks. In the past, YSRP Rajya Sabha MP V Vijay Sai Reddy called Ramesh Kumar a dog who was seated on a golden throne and said he should be called “Naravari Gabbilam” (a bat of Nara family), while YSRCP MLA Ramachandra Reddy called the SEC as a “vedhava” (stupid). It is not just the MLAs and MPs, Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy himself has attacked caste motives to Ramesh Kumar after he postponed the local bodies elections in March citing Covid-19 pandemic. Casting aspersions on the neutrality of Ramesh Kumar, and hinting that he was biased towards the TDP owing to caste considerations, Jagan Mohan Reddy alleged, “the-then CM Chandrababu Naidu appointed Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar as SEC because both of them belong to the same social group, and now, Ramesh Kumar is showing his bias.”
