Vijayashanti back to BJP fold?

1

Firebrand leader and actor Vijayashanti is set to gravitate towards the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) again.

Vijayashanti who began her political career with the BJP in 1997 is likely to return to the BJP, going by the indications.

On Monday, Minister of State for Home Kishan Reddy met Vijayashanti in a closed door meeting that lasted more than 30 minutes fuelling speculations that she may join the BJP.

Vijayashanti, who served as general secretary of the BJP’s women wing, fired at the TRS government for the searches at the residence of relatives of Raghunandan Rao and the arrest of BJP president Bandi Sanjay Kumar.

She said the TRS is worried that the party may lose the Dubbaka seat to the BJP and misusing the police force in order to instill a sense of fear among the BJP cadre.

The yesteryear actor quit the BJP in 2005 and floated her own party Talli Telangana but later merged the party with the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS). Following differences with the party leadership, the former Medak MP joined Congress in February 2014 and unsuccessfully contested from Medak assembly constituency on a Congress ticket. Like Khusbhoo, Vijayshanti has been miffed with the Congress leadership and kept away from the party activities.

Dubbaka polls: BJP misleading police planted cash: Siddipet CP

0

Siddipet police Commissioner Joel Davis dismissed allegations that police was trying to plant the cash bag at the residence of BJP leaders and termed the allegations as “absolutely wrong and misleading”.

The police on Monday had seized Rs 18.67 lakh cash in Siddipet town from the house of a relative of BJP candidate M Raghunandan Rao. Joel Davis more than 30 people attacked the election team and snatched the money and separate cases were registered with regard to cash seizure and the snatching incident. According to him, Rs 12.8 lakh out of the seized money was snatched away allegedly by some unidentified persons.

Joel Davis said the intention of the police was only to ensure free and fair polls in Dubbaka. He said it is wrong and unfair to cast aspersions on the police. “We work under the directive of the Central Election Commission. Our operation is to ensure free and fair. Prima facie we found that the money was intended for the purpose of influencing the voters. Our operation was 100 per cent transparent,” he said.

On Monday, the BJP leaders and workers in large numbers gathered in Siddipet and protested against the police, alleging that the police was trying to plant the money, a charge vehemently opposed by Joel Davis.

On hearing the news of the money seizure, Sanjay and other leaders were prevented in Siddipet from going to Dubbak.

According to him, the attack on the team was planned and they would probe if any conspiracy angle was behind it.

Meanwhile, Telangana BJP President Bandi Sanjay Kumar on Tuesday undertook “Deeksha” (sit-in protest) alleging that the ruling TRS party is planning to postpone Dubbak Assembly by-poll by hook or crook and is using police force to harass his party workers.

He demanded that the Siddipet Commissioner of Police Joel Davis be transferred immediately as the official was rude with him and some of senior leaders of BJP and prevented him from going to Dubbak though he obtained permission from the Election Commission as star campaigner for the Assembly by- poll.

Union Minister of State for Home G Kishan Reddy on Monday night met Raghunandan Rao in Siddipet who briefed him about the incident.

Kishan Reddy said he will take up the issue of police high-handedness to the notice of Election Commission and Union government and party central leadership.

He said Union Home Minister Amit Shah had telephoned him to enquire about the arrest of BJP leaders and searches at the residence of Raghunandan’s kin.

He termed the arrest of state BJP lesders, including party president Bandi Sanjay as highly objectionable and that he would take it up with the central Election Commission and election code violation of the TRS government.

He said the TRS party is frustrated at the growing strength and popularity of the BJP in the state. He accused the ruling TRS of misusing the police force to create fear among the BJP ahead of the election campaign for Dubbaka bypoll.

Tirupati bypolls: Sunil Deodhar holds meeting with State BJP leaders

3

Ahead of the bypolls for Tirupati Lok Sabha constituency, leaders of the state Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have geared into action.

The Lok Sabha seat in Tirupati fell vacant after YSRCP MP Balli Durga Prasad Rao Garu succumbed to Covid-19 in a private hospital in Chennai. He was elected to the Lok Sabha from Tirupati in the 2019 general election as a member of the YSR Congress Party. The YSRCP leadership is banking on sympathy vote by allocating the Tirupati ticket to one of the members of Balli Durga Prasad.

On Saturday, BJP Andhra Pradesh affairs in-charge Sunil Deodhar had a hush-hush meeting with the state BJP leaders including party president Somuraju Veeraju, Vishnu Vardhan Reddy, Kanna Laxminarayana among others and chalked out the strategy to be adopted in the upcoming Lok Sabha bypoll in Tirupati. The BJP has decided to have a political truck with Jana Sena Party led by Pawan Kalyan.

Sources said the BJP is likely to focus on the increasing attacks on Hindu temples and raise issues like the gutting of the chariot at Antarvedi, chariot burning in a temple in Bitragunta in Nellore, the vandalisation of Nandi idol in the 12th century Kasi Visweswara Swamy temple at Makkapeta in Chittoor and the attack on Shiva temple in Agara Mangalam village in Gangadhara Nellore Mandal of Chittoor district. among others.

Further, the BJP is likely to corner the ruling YSRCP government led by Jagan Mohan Reddy in attempts to dilute the age-old practices in Tirumala. The BJP may focus on the controversial decisions taken by the TTD Board with regard to the proposed sale of Sri Vari assets in Tamil Naidu, deviating from the age-old practice of signing declaration form if the devotee happens to be a non-Hindu. TTD chairman Subba Reddy, maternal uncle of Jagan Mohan Reddy, had allowed the Chief Minister to enter the abode of Lord Venkateswara at Tirumala without signing the mandatory declaration form. The state BJP will also focus on the TTD’s move to invest the Tirumala funds in central government securities, stocks or debentures.

“In order to understand the ground realities, continuously listening to karyakartas & leaders & taking their feedback on the situations are of utmost importance. Had a one-on-one conversation with Karyakartas of Tirupati organisational district of @BJP4Andhra,” tweeted Sunil Deodhar soon after meeting the state BJP leaders and activists.

The central BJP has recently appointed Somraju Veeraju, a Kapu, to consolidate its base among the community, which has a large population in the Andhra Pradesh, while the two regional parties in the State — the YSRC and TDP — have their support base among the Reddy and Kamma community respectively.

Dubbaka BJP leader suspended; Raghunandan Rao cries phone tapping

1

Party leaders cutting across political parties are taking the Dubbaka byelections quite prestigiously.

After KCR decided to field Sujatha Reddy, wife of Solipeta Ramalinga Reddy, Cheruku Srinivas Reddy quit the TRS and joined the Congress Party in the presence of TPCC president Uttam Kumar Reddy at Gandhi Bhavan. While Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao had announced the candidature of Solipeta Sujatha, the Congress had decided to field Cheruku Srinivas Reddy, son of four-time MLA and former Minister late Cheruku Muthyam Reddy.

On Wednesday, BJP president Bandi Sanjay suspended Dubbaka party leader Kamalakar Reddy for violating the party’s discipline. The state BJP has decided to field Raghunandan Rao for the Dubbaka seat.

A miffed Kamalakar Reddy criticized the party for announcing the candidature of Raghunandan Rao president stating that he is not the right candidate to contest the elections. Political observers believe that suspending a party leader ahead of the bypolls will not bode well for the BJP. Political analysts opined that internal bickering and infighting should be discussed within the party, but suspending Kamalakar Reddy at this juncture will play a significant impact for the BJP.

Meanwhile, Dubbaka BJP candidate Raghunandan Rao on Wednesday lodged a complaint with the Election Commission of India and Union Home Minister Amit Shah that the Telangana government is snooping on him.

In the complaint, Raghunandan Rao alleged that the KCR government was misusing the Telangana police by resorting to phone tapping. He appealed to the central government to initiate a probe into the phone tapping issue. Further, the BJP leader alleged that the police were resorting to phone tapping at the behest of Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao and finance minister Harish Rao. The TRS is making all efforts to retain the seat, while the Congress party has started conducting meetings with local leaders. Harish Rao has already made several visits to Dubbaka constituency.

The Election Commission of India has decided to conduct the byelections for Dubbaka – the lone vacant Assembly seat in Telangana- on November 3.

Dubbaka fell vacant after its former TRS MLA S Ramalinga Reddy died due to a heart attack. The notification for the Dubbaka byelections will be released on October 9, while nominations should be filed on or before October 16. Nomination withdrawal will be accepted on or before October 19. The polling for Dubbaka will be held on November 3 and the counting of votes will take place on November 10.

All eyes on BJP-YCP affidavits on Capital shifting

3

The High Court of Andhra Pradesh has indeed pushed the BJP and YCP into a corner by asking for affidavits on the political parties’ stand on Amaravati Capital before and after 2019 election. Especially, the BJP would find it indeed a very tight-rope walk to strike a balance in its arguments. Its alliance partner Pawan Kalyan’s Jana Sena has already filed its affidavit categorically favouring only one Capital which should be at Amaravati. It has opposed 3 Capitals.

Ever since the Capital shifting row came to the fore, the BJP has been speaking in two voices. Its leaders Somu Veerraju and GVL Narasimha Rao have been consistently saying that the AP Government has a right to change Capital. The Central Government has no role to play in this. At the same time, they are saying that the previous TDP regime has failed to complete the Capital within five years of its rule. However, AP should protect the interests of Amaravati farmers in the event of forming 3 Capitals.

All such confusing arguments so far made by the BJP and its Spokesman GVL would not help to satisfy the High Court now at this juncture. The BJP would have to simply say whether it supports Amaravati as only Capital City or not prior to election and what its present stand is. BJP has been arguing that it has always asked for the High Court in Kurnool, which is a matter for political debates but not filing affidavits in the court.

On its part, YCP will have a very tough time to support its 3 Capitals plan. CM Jagan Reddy himself welcomed Amaravati Capital in the Assembly before elections but later he came up with 3 Capitals in the name of development of all regions. How YCP would now explain its changed positions in its court affidavit is now a matter of curiosity?

After TDP, it’s BJP leaders’ turn to taste Police travel treatment

1

Everybody has seen how the AP Police have forced the arrested TDP leaders to travel in police vans for long, long distances as a unique kind of punishment. In the name of investigation, Atchannaidu was made to travel for over 700 kms even though he was recovering from surgery. Now, a similar kind of treatment is being given to the BJP leaders. The same BJP leaders, who watched as silent spectators previously, are now expressing serious dissent against the ruling YCP attitude.

The latest victim is BJP senior leader Vishnu Vardhan Reddy, who is one of those leaders to speak softly towards Jagan Reddy regime now and then. But now, Vishnu Vardhan Reddy has been placed under preventive arrest. Not stopping at that, he was taken around in police vans for over 350 kms throughout the night.

Vishnu Vardhan’s only crime was that he reached Amalapuram as part of BJP AP President Somu Veerraju’s call for ‘Chalo Amalapuram’ to register protest against Antarvedi chariot burning. VV Reddy expressed concern that the police were not even telling where he was being taken and where he was being detained. He said that he was seeing the arrests of dissenting opposition leaders only under the Jagan Reddy Government.

The BJP leader has asked whether CM Jagan and AP Police have written for themselves a separate Constitution to suppress the rights of the people of the State.

Veerraju, BJP leaders arrested ahead of ‘Chalo Amalapuram’

2

The Jaganmohan Reddy government has banned the ‘Chala Amalapuram’ programme called by the BJP and Jana Sena leaders. The police imposed prohibitory orders in the entire Konaseema region in Godavari districts. Section 144 and 30 were declared in the region to prevent any protest on temple attacks in Konaseema.

As a preventive measure, BJP AP President Somu Veerraju and several of his party leaders were arrested and told not to go to Amalapuram. All major leaders in Godavari districts were placed under house arrest and strict warnings were issued. The government acted very quickly considering the volatile political situation as feelings are badly hurt on the issue of Antarvedi chariot burning.

Veerraju reacted sharply to the arrests and issued a strong warning to Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy. The BJP leader told the CM that he would face the consequences like Chandrababu Naidu if the BJP leaders were not allowed to exercise their democratic right to express protest.

Veerraju asked the CM to explain why the culprits in temple attacks were turning out to be insane persons while those throwing even a stone at churches were branded sane and being arrested. The BJP would not tolerate this sort of discrimination any more.

Telangana BJP slams Jaya Bachchan over her drug remarks

2

Telangana BJP chief spokesperson Krishna Sagar Rao on Tuesday called MP Jaya Bachchan a hypocrite over her remarks on that the entire film industry was being defamed in the drug racket case.

Participating in Zero Hour in Rajya Sabha, Krishna Sagar Rao Jaya Bachchan instead of condemning the drug menace is backing the film industry which is mired in the drug racket. “She has not condemned drug addiction and peddling by actors in Bollywood, Tollywood, Sandalwood, instead she is backing the film industry,” Sagar Rao fired at her.

He said to top it Jaya Bachchan had sent a notice in RS alleging conspiracy to defame the film industry. He said several Bollywood actors were booked under the Narcotics Act and yet the yesteryear actor was supporting the film industry. “It is hypocrisy and shameful that she gave a notice in the House over the issue. What and who is she trying to protect? She should be asking the Central government’s support to deal with the drug mafia in Bollywood with an iron hand,” he said.

Jaya Bachchan had given zero hour notice in the Upper House over an alleged conspiracy to defame the film industry stating that people in the entertainment industry are being flogged by social media. “People who made their names in the industry have called it a gutter. I hope that the government tells such people not to use this kind of language,” she said in Parliament.

Veerrajju to breathe new life into BJP with new jumbo team

7

BJP Andhra Pradesh President Somu Veerraju is going ahead at a jet speed to strengthen his party. Actually, he has now strengthened his squid by appointing a 40-member strong jumbo team. Ever since he took over, Veerraju has been creating a distinctive mark for himself by making contradictory and controversial political statements. While making both pro and anti-Jagan Reddy statements, Veerraju has given a latest interview to Venkata Krishna of ABN channel.

Veerraju asserted his party’s equi-distance with YSRCP and TDP in his interview but at the same time, he appealed to ABN channel to take a critical view of Chandrababu Naidu’s style as well. Veerraju has been constantly in the public spotlight on each and every issue.

Now, Veerraju’s latest game plan is to pursue his ‘mission AP’ by gearing the party machinery up for the challenge. Accordingly, he has appointed a 40-member team with 10 vice presidents, five general secretaries, 10 secretaries, six official spokespersons, a treasurer and state party office secretary.

The new Vice Presidents are Vishnu Kumar Raju, Malathi Rani, Nimmala Jaya Raju, Adinarayana Reddy, Relangi Sridevi, Vijaya Lakshmi,
Venugopal, Surender Reddy, Ravela Kishore Babu, and Chandramouli.

The new general secretaries are Vishnu Vardhan Reddy, Suryanarayana Raju, PVS Madhav, Madhukar and L. Gandhi. The official spokespersons are Bhanu Prakash Reddy, Sambasiva Rao, Anjaneya Reddy, Tirupati Rao, Suhasini and Srinivas.

Can BJP create a strong Hindu vote bank in AP?

5

Within 15 months of his rule, the young and aggressive Chief Minister Jaganmohan Reddy has given many burning issues for the Opposition parties to start their agitations to attract the attention of the people. Undoubtedly, the credit for bringing Pawan Kalyan and the BJP would only go to the CM whose party leaders’ political harassment has forced Jana Senani to join hands with the saffron brigade. Now, the joint force of the BJP and Jana Sena is posing enough of a challenge that the Jagan Reddy regime has shivered at just a call for ‘Chalo Antarvedi’ against chariot burning.

Complacency of the part of YSRCP has led to a general impression that there are increasing attacks on Hindu temples even as all Opposition parties and devotees are becoming greatly agitated. Seeing massive response, the BJP leaders have become confident of carrying out their plans to divide AP voters along religious lines thereby to grab power in Andhra Pradesh by pushing the TDP aside in the next elections. But the question is whether the Hindu voters could be divided as a single block to benefit the BJP so much in AP.

It is a confirmed fact that the caste factor dominates the electoral politics in AP. More than anything else, even NTR could counter political maneuvers of Congress in his time because of his caste’s solid support. The same is the case with Pawan Kalyan whose caste is giving undivided support along with a small margin of his fan base. As such, Kapus may sail with the BJP because of the Senani factor. But, it cannot be the same with the Kamma voters. Though they are Hindus mostly, majority of them will support TDP regardless of strong religious feelings. Similarly, majority Reddys who are Hindus will also go with Jagan.
If BJP really wants to divide AP voters along religious lines, surely it would have to invent a miracle formula that would work despite all odds.

BJP demands probe into Rakul’s drug links

2

The State BJP leaders on Saturday demanded a thorough investigation into the drug nexus of Tollywood in the wake of reports that Rakul Preet Singh figured in the list of actors allegedly named by Rhea Chakraborty during interrogation by the Narcotic Control Bureau (NCB).

BJP spokesman K Krishna Sagar Rao said he will write to Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Minister of State for Home Kishan Reddy seeing a probe into the drug racket while urging Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao to initiate a thorough investigation.

“Rakul Preet Singh is Telangana brand ambassador. She had been preaching against drug abuse, through state government-sponsored publicity programs. This shows the hypocrisy of such actors. How can the government continue to have her as the brand ambassador of Telangana,” he said.

“Many such drug users in Tollywood are bad role models, he added. He also said IPS officer Akun Sabharwal had done a thorough investigation into the drug mafia influence in not just Tollywood, but the probe was water-down because of political pressure.

BJP leaders protest over Antarvedi fire mishap

0

Demanding a thorough investigation into Antarvedi temple chariot fire mishap, State president Somu Veerraju and other party leaders held a demonstration in Rajahmundry on Thursday.

Jana Sena, the BJP’s political ally in Andhra Pradesh, also took part in the one hour protest sit-in. Rajya Sabha MP G V L Narasimha Rao and national secretary and co-incharge of the party’s AP affairs Sunil Deodhar also took part in the protest and condemned the government for its negligent attitude and non-serious approach in dealing with the issue.

The BJP leaders said there has been a growing attack on Hindu temples and their assets across the state ever since the YSRCP rode to power. Sunil Deodhar, demanded that the government immediately release the party leaders who were kept under house arrest in East Godavari district. On Tuesday, the police arrested more than 50 protesters who descended on Antarvedi village to demonstrate against the chariot blaze. G V L Narasimha Rao alleged that the YSRCP government ignored attacks on 15 temples in the state. He also accused the previous Telugu Desam Party (TDP) government of demolishing 17 temples in Vijayawada.

State BJP leaders under house arrest over Antarvedi incident

1

A day after state BJP president Somu Veerraju warned of an intense agitation over the Antarvedi chariot incident, the police have kept several BJP and right-wing leaders under house arrest.

The police have clamped Section 30 in East Godavari district. The six-decade-old wooden chariot or temple car of the deity, Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy temple at Antarvedi in East Godavari district of the state, got burnt and reduced to ashes. Following this, the BJP warned of agitation. As a preventive measure, the police have kept BJP former president Y Malakondayya , Kakinada city president Chitneedi Srinivas and 75 leaders under house arrest. Devotees and Hindu organizations smell a conspiracy and consider the incident as yet another assault on Hindu religion and faith ever since the YS Jagan Mohan Reddy government came to power in the state.

Directorate of Intelligence G KV Mohan Rao has camped at Antarvedi and warned the BJP and its frontal organizations of taking stringent action if they create law and order problems over the Antarvedi incident. Malakondayya questioned the Jagan government’s indifference to the burning of the divine chariot in Antarvedi and the negligence of the officials concerned. He demanded that the government order a probe and the culprits be booked.

So far, no arrests have been made. BJP president Somraju Veeraju demanded a judicial probe into the incident by a sitting judge of the High Court. Veerraju said the incident at Antarvedi is a reflection of the growing intolerance against temples and the Hindu faith. He said the state government had failed to show any seriousness in bringing the culprits to the book.

Inspector general of police ( law and order) A Ravishankar appealed to the people to exercise restraint and warned that anyone who attempts to damage places of worship of other religions would face stringent action.

BJP in a dilemma on counter in HC over Amaravati

5

BJP AP President Somu Veerraju was in an upbeat mood since his appointment as party AP unit chief a few weeks ago. But that joy was apparently short lived. The High Court’s instruction to AP political parties to file their counters stating their respective positions on Amaravati Capital came as a rude shock to the BJP AP unit. Especially, Mr Somu Veerraju was facing the most challenging moment in his political career. Since taking charge as party AP president, he has been making contradictory statements that indicated his indirect support for CM Jaganmohan Reddy’s 3 Capitals. Now, the High Court’s order put the burden of deciding his party’s official stand on Veerraju more than anybody else.

Amid such a big test, BJP ally Jana Sena has already decided to file its counter in favour of Amaravati Capital considering the future of farmers who gave their lands. Whereas, BJP leaders like Veerraju and GVL Narasimha Rao have been speaking in double voice that the AP Government has a right to change Capital but at the same time, the farmers should get justice. GVL has said this many times but he has never said how justice could be given to farmers by not fulfilling development commitments given in agreements to them.

Analysts say that BJP’s biggest dilemma would now be whether to take a stand for or against Amaravati. As the party has to submit its opinion to the High Court, the BJP leaders can no longer take politically confusing stands for the sake of short-term interests. The final moment has arrived for the BJP to speak out clearly whether it is on the side of Amaravati Capital or not. The BJP Government at the Centre could escape easily by saying that it has no role in Capital shifting in a State. But as a political party, the BJP cannot afford to say the same and it has to clarify to the court why there is change in its stand towards AP Capital before and after elections.

TDP or YSRCP or BJP, which is on ventilator support?

10

It is not unusual to dismiss a political party as something on a deathbed in the first two to three years after an election defeat. The same is happening with the Telugu Desam Party now. CM Jaganmohan Reddy’s strong arm and aggressive attacks are creating an impression that the very existence of TDP is under threat. Coupled with this, the ruling BJP at the Centre is extending indirect support. There is no doubt that it is going to be the test of his lifetime for Chandrababu Naidu.

At the same time, it has become a routine for some critics to say that Naidu is ageing while his son Lokesh has no leadership skills. They are not however explaining what sort of skills that Lokesh is lacking in. Some others are saying that currently Andhra Pradesh is suffering from a political vacuum. Within just 15 months of coming to power, CM Jagan Reddy has attracted some attention with his welfare schemes but has failed to raise hopes on the development front. There are also allegations about a multiplicity of corruption scams. Jagan Reddy’s multiple capitals have also triggered widespread criticism. Already, the Opposition is challenging the CM to resign and seek a fresh mandate on his 3 Capitals plan.

Analysts say that no political party is gaining the confidence of the vast majority of the population as of now in AP. There is no election round the corner right now. Yet, many are talking about the future of different political parties. The BJP, which got less than 1 per cent vote share, has ruled itself out from the power race by ignoring Special Status and Capital issues. The TDP is facing a big threat from CM Jagan. At the same time, the YCP is facing unprecedented criticism on social media which is an indication of rising disappointment about its policies especially on liquor and sand.

BJP following different stands for Telugu states: RRR

1

YCP rebellious MP Raghu Rama Raju (RRR) has begun making fun of the Bhratiya Janata Party AP unit’s line of thinking on different burning issues these days. First, he found fault with GVL Narasimha Rao on Centre not having a role in phone tapping. Today, RRR asked whether a so-called champion of the Hindu cause was having two different stands for Telugu States with regard to Ganesh festival celebrations. Mr Raju praised BJP Telangana unit President Bandi Sanjay for making a strong appeal to the cadres and devotees in his state to celebrate Vinayaka Chaviti while observing social distancing norms. For this, Sanjay has released a paper advertisement on how to observe physical distancing during festival celebrations.

Rajugaru has also spoken to his colleague MP Sanjay and told him how they both shared similar sentiments on the festival celebrations. Whereas, RRR wondered how the BJP AP unit President Somu Veerraju released his own guidelines which run totally contrary to the stand taken by the BJP leaders in other states. Veerraju was asking devotees to celebrate the festival while remaining at their respective homes. Mr. Raju said obviously the BJP was having different lines of approach for different states.

RRR today described the so-called decentralisation being pursued by CM Jagan Reddy was looking more like ‘centralisation’ of power and resources rather than sharing powers and responsibilities to usher in development in all regions. The 3 Capitals move would not help in future growth or prosperity of the State in any way. The peaceful residents of Visakhapatanm would lose their peace if the Capital is shifted there.

Somu Veerraju takes charge in Amaravati, target 2024

2

BJP AP President Somu Veerraju officially took charge at a grand meeting held in Amaravati Capital City region here. However, he did not talk much about his party stand on Capital shifting. His speech mostly focused on his plans to bring the BJP to power in Andhra Pradesh in 2024 general elections. He says the people will come forward to support the BJP since they were unhappy with the family-dominated regional parties. Both the YSRCP and the TDP had their weaknesses while the BJP has everything to gain.

From the day he was appointed AP unit President, Veerraju has been talking about the BJP chances to grab power in next elections in AP. He was talking about their party vote share already touching 24 per cent because of support from Chiranjeevi and Pawan Kalyan. Veerraju’s calculation is that Chiranjeevi got 18 per cent vote share in 2009 polls while Pawan got 6 per cent in 2019 polls. He apparently combined both these figures and put them in the basket of the BJP.

Everywhere, Veerraju is talking about 2024. Now, he has raised the issue of caste and this should not be allowed to mar the chances of the BJP in the next elections. Analysts say Veerraju has already distanced himself from one caste. His efforts to lure his own caste in Godavari districts would not be useful unless Chiranjeevi and Pawan support him.

Whatever, BJP national leader Ram Madhav, former AP president Kanna Lakshminarayana, former union minister Purandeswari and others were present.

BJP MLC sheds crocodile tears for farmers

4

The state BJP’s double speak on Amaravati continued even as the Modi government on Thursday made its stand clear on the issue.

BJP MLC P V N Madhav asserted that his party is committed to Amaravati as capital and demanded that the Jagan government should fulfill the promises made to agitating Amaravati farmers. Shedding crocodile tears for the farmers, the BJP MLC stated that the Amaravati farmers were caught in the political crossfire between the ruling YSRCP and the Opposition TDP.

“Both the parties have to resolve the issue amicably,” he stated. He hit out at both the parties saying they are dabbling in selfish politics, as if the BJP is above that.

Further, the BJP MLC claimed that the saffron party has always maintained a consistent stand right from day one that no injustice should be done to the farmers of Amaravati, who gave their lands to the government and not TDP president Chandrababu Naidu. While it is true that over 35,000 acres of land was given by 28,000 farmers from 21 villages for the capital creation and not to Chandrababu Naidu, why did the central BJP lob the Amaravati ball in the state government’s court? Isn’t this double standard?

Madhav parotted the central government’s line that the capital city is a state subject and that the union government has no role to play it. Well, if the central government had no role to play in it – why did the BJP unanimously adopt the resolution that Amaravati will be the capital of the state, why did Prime Minister Narendra Modi lay the foundation stone for Amaravati as capital city, why did the union government grant Rs 2,500 crore funds to the state government for creation of the capital. These and many such questions remain unaswered.

However, Madhav attacked the YSRCP stating that Jagan Mohan Reddy had assured the five crore people of Andhra Pradesh that his party would continue the state capital in Amaravati alone and that it would be fully developed. “The Chief Minister should owes an explanation on why or for whom is the capital being shifted to Vizag. Earlier, the TDP had real estate interests in announcing Amaravati as capital. The YSRCP government too is shifting the capital to Vizag for the same reason. The move to make Vizag as executive capital is only usurp the premium lands. The problem has been created by both the parties. Now, they are trying to divert the attention of the people by attacking the BJP,” Madhav fumed

None of the major political parties seem to have any concern for the farmers who parted with their land for the development of Amaravati capital city under the AP Capital City Land Pooling Scheme (Formulation and Implementation) Rules, 2015. Amaravati was announced as as the Capital City in accordance with Sections. 5, 6 and 94 of the AP Reorganisation Act, 2014. Under the AP Reorganisation Act, there can be only single capital and not multiple capital cities.

It is incumbent upon the central government to protect Amaravati in accordance with the spirit of AP Reorganisation Act. However, the Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA) Bill was approved by Governor Bishwabhushan Harichandan against the spirit of the AP Reorganisation Act.

In this ugly political drama being played by the YSRCP and the BJP, the farmers aspirations and dreams of the five crore people remain shattered.

AP BJP defends Governor, fires on Chandrababu comments

4

The Bharatiya Janata Party AP unit released its official comment on the latest political developments in the State. The BJP criticised Chandrababu Naidu for his attacks on the Governor on the approval given to the 3 Capitals bills. This was nothing but the original Chandrababu style of taking political advantage out of everything. The BJP pointed out that India’s federal setup clearly demarcated powers of the Centre and also the States. As such, the Central government has no role play in the 3 Capitals bills issues. It is totally an issue relating to the respective State government.

The BJP AP leaders said the TDP was passing undue remarks against their party and the Government in an opportunistic way. The Governor has signed on the bills only after consulting the legal and constitutional experts. The Governor’s approval was nothing undemocratic or unlawful in any manner. The multiple Capitals was a decision taken by the Government. In a federal system, the State Government has the powers to take such a decision to suit the people’s requirements.

The BJP leaders asked the TDP chief not to continue his misinformation campaign. At the same time, the BJP asserted that the Amaravati farmers should get justice. All the parties should consider their problems sympathetically. The BJP has been supporting the cause of the farmers from the beginning and there is no change in that stand even now.

Modi-Shah soft corner for Jagan continues: BJP AP weak?

1

All said and done, the emerging political situation appears not so rosy for the BJP national leadership as far as Andhra Pradesh is concerned. The reason is their party is not growing as per their expectations. Intellectuals like GVL Narasimha Rao and Sunil Deodhar have initially thought of using Jagan Reddy oppressive politics to cripple the TDP. But that has not happened. With all his forty years political experience, Chandrababu Naidu is fighting back. As a result, the BJP has lagged behind to a lot of extent. Moreover, no dominant community is throwing all its weight behind the BJP. It is well known AP electoral politics depend solely on caste votebanks.

The Reddys are solely with the YCP, the Kammas with the TDP and the Kapus with Jana Sena. Though the BJP brought in Kapu leader Kanna Lakshminarayana as party AP president, it could not make any difference. So, after one year of waiting, the BJP has finally concluded that they have no option but to go for a tie-up in AP if Jamili elections are held in 2022. Jana Sena is already their partner but their combined strength is not enough to confront rivals. Now, BJP wants to wait further to see if Chandrababu would become stronger so that it could tie up with the TDP.

In his latest Weekend Comment, ABN Radha Krishna says it is because of this political uncertainty in AP that Modi-Shah are still continuing their soft corner for CM Jagan Reddy. Apparently, Modi-Shah are not confident of BJP AP’s abilities to confront rivals. RK says if TDP becomes stronger in the coming days, then equations will definitely change for 2022 Jamili.
