BJP men attack TRS MLA’s house over remarks on Ram temple

1

Some BJP activists on Sunday attacked the house of TRS MLA Challa Dharma Reddy in Hanamkonda protesting his remarks on construction of Ram temple at Ayodhya.

Police said some BJP leaders and workers attacked the legislator of Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) with stones and eggs.

BJP leaders and activists of Warangal Urban and Warangal Rural districts were allegedly involved in the attack. The attackers broke window panes and damaged furniture.

Police rushed to the scene and arrested the attackers. Assistant Commissioner of Police Jitender Reddy said the situation was immediately brought under control.

Trouble began during a protest organised by the BJP in front of the MLA’s house. Protestors, raising slogans of ‘Jai Sri Ram’, started pelting stones.

On learning about the incident, Panchayat Raj Minister E. Dayakar Rao visited Dharma Reddy’s house and enquired about the incident.

The BJP had taken strong exception to the remarks made by Dharma Reddy. While addressing a meeting three days ago, the MLA from Parkal had questioned why should people of Telangana donate for the temple in Ayodhya when there was already a Ramalayam in Bhadrachalam. “We have Lord Rama in Bhadrachalam. Who we need this Rama?” he asked the BJP leaders.

While stating that he was not against the idea of constructing a temple, the TRS legislators remarked: “God is for all and not just for you.” He alleged that the BJP party leaders were politicising the issue.

Talking to reporters on Sunday, Dharma Reddy reiterated his remarks. He also wanted to know why no account was being maintained about the donations for Ram temple.

The TRS and the BJP have been engaged in a slugfest over Ram temple over last few days.

Another TRS legislator K. Vidya Sagar Rao had slammed BJP leaders for donation drive for the temple. “They are doing a new drama. Everyone is a devotee of Lord Rama. Why do we need a Ram temple in Ayodhya. We have Ram temples in every village,” he had said.

Vidya Sagar Rao also had to face the ire of BJP workers, who accused him of insulting religious sentiments of Hindus.

Meanwhile, state minister and TRS Working President K. T. Rama Rao condemned the attack on Dharma Reddy’s house.

In a statement, he said that there is no room in democracy for physical attacks.

He said all those who believe in democracy should condemn the act of BJP leaders who are resorting to physical attacks after failing to convince people with their arguments.

Rama Rao said BJP was crossing the limits of rational criticism to indulge in physical attacks and this was not appropriate in Telangana politics. “TRS wants value based politics in Telangana. BJP should realize that TRS has the strength to protect its cadres and every worker,” he said.

KTR, as Rao is popularly known, told BJP leaders that if they test the patience of TRS cadres, they will not be able to move freely. “TRS has the power to counter BJP’s physical attacks. We have already warned BJP that our patience has a limit. Still, we are moving ahead with patience and as a responsible political party. BJP should not forget that TRS is a party born from a movement.”

He urged intellectuals to question the BJP which is trying to create a divide in the peaceful Telangana society.

Unemployment dole: Another move by TRS to check saffron surge

2

More than two years after promising unemployment allowance, the TRS government is gearing up to formulate a scheme as it seeks to check BJP, which is going aggressive in its attacks on the ruling party over unfulfilled promises.

Despite a big drop in revenue due to Covid induced lockdown and consequent slowdown, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) government is contemplating to roll out unemployment allowance soon.

TRS working president and minister for industry, information technology, municipal administration and urban development K.T. Rama Rao stated a couple of days ago that Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao is likely to announce an unemployment allowance in the next few days.

“The Chief Minister, in a day or two, may make an announcement on the unemployment allowance,” said KTR, as the chief minister’s son is popularly known.

KTR said the government would soon release a notification for the recruitment to 50,000 posts in the state government. He assured the youth that KCR will bestow more than what they had expected from him.

The move is surprising given the impact the fall on revenue may have on the overall budget size and a plethora of welfare schemes already being implemented by the state.

However, this appears to be a political compulsion for TRS at a time when BJP is going all out to attack the ruling party for failing to fulfill the promises made in 2018 elections.

Political analysts say with BJP going aggressive as part of its goal to come to power in the state 2023, TRS is making swift moves to check the saffron surge.

Only last month, Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao had announced that notifications would be issued shortly to fill up vacancies of teachers, police personnel and others.

“The primary information suggests that there are about 50,000 vacancies in the state in several departments. We have to fill them up. Teachers and police have to be recruited in thousands,” he had said.

Two major announcements in as many months apparently came to placate unemployed youth, whose anger is believed to be one of the key reasons for the electoral reverses suffered by TRS in recent weeks.

In by-election to Dubbak Assembly constituency held in November, TRS suffered a shocking defeat at the hands of BJP which focused on youth and the unfulfilled promises of the ruling party.

The angry youth turned the tide as the BJP wrested the seat from TRS. It was seen as an anti-incumbency vote. It was a big jolt to TRS as the party had never lost a by-election since 2014 when it came to power in the newly created state.

After Dubbak victory, the BJP also made considerable inroads in TRS vote bank by winning 48 seats in 150-member Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), elections for which were held in December. It was an impressive show for BJP which had won only four seats in 2016 elections.

BJP, which emerged as the second largest party in GHMC, denied clear majority to TRS and sent a strong message again that it is emerging as the viable alternative to TRS.

A week after the results of GHMC polls, the chief minister announced filling up of vacancies in the government. He asked Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar to collect details about the vacant posts in teachers, police and other departments and issue notifications to fill the vacancies.

“TRS is under extreme pressure from the youth and unemployed sections of the society, along with those who are working in the government. Results in Dubbak and GHMC elections are an indication of the mood of people in the state,” said political analyst P. Raghavendra Reddy.

He, however, believes that unemployment allowance will act like a painkiller for the short-term but it is not the solution for the problems in Telangana, especially of the youth. The KCR government will have seriously think about filling vacant posts in the government, and create more employment opportunities through self-employment and in the private sector.

“The BJP is making use of and gaining ground due to the feeling among the people of being neglected by the TRS government. Unemployment allowance could help prevent the ground from slipping away temporarily, but KCR and KTR must think of more long-term and impactful measure to regain lost political turf,” said Reddy.

In the manifesto for 2018 Assembly elections, the TRS had promised unemployment allowance. The party promises that the unemployed youth will get a monthly payment of Rs 3,016 till they get a job.

The party made the promise as the youth were voicing their anger over the government’s failure to deliver on the promise of one lakh jobs. TRS had come under criticism from students for failing the youth who fought for separate Telangana state. The party, however, retained power with a massive majority.

In the vote on account budget for 2019-20 tabled by the chief minister himself in February 2019, Rs 1,810 crore was earmarked for the unemployment allowance. However, the scheme was never formulated and it found no mention in 2020-21 budget, apparently due to fall in revenue growth rate.

It is still not clear how the government will implement the scheme when it may find difficult to mobilize the resources for continuing the existing welfare schemes like social security pensions, free electricity, financial assistance to farmers, health insurance to poor and scholarships.

The chief minister is likely to appoint a panel of senior officials to formulate the scheme and its guidelines. All eyes will be on the allocation to be made in the budget for 2021-22.

There is still no clarity on the number of unemployed in the state. Nearly 10 lakh candidates have registered with employment exchanges of the state government.

Over 20 lakh people candidates have registered with Telangana State Public Service Commission (TSPSC) for government jobs.

Even if the unemployed youth are estimated at 10 lakh, the government will have to earmark Rs 3,600 crore in the budget.

Some sections of unemployed are already demanding that the scheme be implemented with retrospective effect from December 2018.

There is already a war of words going on between the government and the opposition over the former’s claim on jobs provided during last six years.

KTR claimed that 1.31 lakh people were recruited since 2014. This includes 36,000 youth recruited through Telangana State Public Service Commission.

He claimed that 14.50 lakh job opportunities were provided to the youth through 14,000 companies given permissions under TSiPASS, the industrial policy under which new industries are given all permission in 14 days.

The Congress party challenged the KTR to prove his claims of recruitment of 1.31 lakh people by the government and. All India Congress Committee (AICC) secretary A. Sampath Kumar dared the minister for a debate on the issue.

The Congress leader alleged that it was another ploy by the TRS to mislead youth ahead of elections to two seats of Telangana Legislative Council from graduates constituencies.

Elections to graduates constituencies of Mahabubnagar-Hyderabad-Rangareddy and Warangal-Nalgonda-Khammam are likely to be held in February.

BJP, Janasena denounce Andhra govt’s call for unanimous polls

1

Even as the Andhra Pradesh government is encouraging unanimous elections declaring financial incentives up to Rs 20 lakh for gram panchayats, the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its local ally Janasena denounced the move on Wednesday.

“Unanimous elections are a ploy by the government to scare people, to bring pressure on candidates who want to contest. Using the local administration to make people withdraw from elections, it is a conspiracy to make elections unanimous,” alleged Janasena leader Nadendla Manohar.

Manohar said as a political party, the Janasena has a responsibility in the matter and called for nominations across the state.

“But the government is encouraging unanimous polls. It is surprising that the government is encouraging unanimous polls with press conferences and wide publicity,” he observed.

He demanded that the State Election Commission on behalf of the BJP and the Janasena take suo motu cognizance of the issue and look into it, calling for elections to take place in all villages and panchayats, to negate unanimous polls.

Manohar said both the parties have taken an appointment with Governor Bisaw Bhusan Harichandan on Friday to make a representation.

“Elections should happen in a free and transparent environment. Democracy should be upheld. Administration should also work to uphold democracy,” he said.

On Tuesday, the Andhra Pradesh government announced financial incentives up to Rs 20 lakh in the forthcoming panchayat polls to encourage unanimous elections and thereby enable the gram panchayats to concentrate on development work.

Unanimous elections in gram panchayats (GPs) with a population less than 2,000 will receive a financial incentive of Rs 5 lakh while GPs with a population between 2,001 to 5,000 will receive Rs 10 lakh.

Likewise, GPs with a population between 5,001 to 10,000 will receive an incentive of Rs 15 lakh for unanimous elections.

Those GPs with a population above 10,000 will receive Rs 20 lakh.

Manohar, an aide of actor-politician Pawan Kalyan, who founded the Janasena just before the general elections in 2014, said the alliance partners, BJP and Janasena, will encourage the youth to contest elections across the state.

“This opportunity will encourage youth to move forward in public life, which Pawan Kalyan also called for. Both the BJP and the Janasena decided to contest at all places in the panchayat elections,” he added.

Is there democracy or emergency in Andhra Pradesh, asks BJP

1

Andhra Pradesh BJP President Somu Veerraju on Thursday lambasted the state government and asked if there is democracy or emergency in the state.

“I am asking Jagan Mohan Reddy whether there is democracy or emergency in your government? If you have the right to impose emergency, you can impose it. But we are observing several incidents. When we called for ‘Chalo Antarvedi’, you arrested our leaders all over the state,” said Veerraju.

He alleged that the government is filing several police cases on the basis of social media posts, including allegedly arresting people just for sharing information.

Veerraju claimed that thousands of people are being arrested and BJP leaders are not being allowed to visit Ramateertham, where an idol of Lord Ram was desecrated and decapitated by unknown miscreants.

“The government has to issue a statement as to why these things are happening. The DGP has claimed that BJP’s role is there in temple attacks. First he said there was no role of political parties,” he said.

The BJP President said his party leaders had tried to discuss these baseless allegations with the government.

He also asked if posting on social media about fallen temples is equal to demolishing them. Veerraju said it is a shameful act of the government to arrest senior BJP leaders who wanted to discuss these allegations.

“As there is an undemocratic rule in the state and attacks are happening on Hindu temples, the BJP will not keep quiet. It is a cowardly act to block the BJP in this manner,” he said.

According to Veerraju, no BJP activist is scared of these activities by the government and the party is poised to take out ‘rathyatras’ soon.

He also claimed that an attack on BJP is an attack on Hindus.

Veerraju said a report has been submitted to Union Home Minister Amit Shah about the state of affairs in Andhra Pradesh.

Incidentally, senior leaders such as C.M. Ramesh were arrested by the police on Thursday.

Rath Yatra – new mantra of TDP and BJP to beat YCP

1

The TDP has already announced its massive Rath Yatra plans in nook and corner of the Tirupati parliamentary segment. Now, the BJP has decided to hold a Rath Yatra from Kapilatheertham in Tirupati to Ramatheertham in Vizianagaram district.

Interestingly, the BJP leaders said that this is going to be a joint Rath Yatra with the Jana Sena party. It will start from February 4. The objective of it is to protest and create awareness among the people on the rising attacks on the Hindu temples and idols.
As expected, the BJP is drawing plans to to take advantage of the political situation. But the TDP supremo is making advance strategies to steal the thunder from the BJP.

Already, Chandrababu Naidu has taken the lead on the issue of the Ramatheertham idol desecration. This has put a severe strain on the BJP AP leaders.

Now, the BJP AP leaders are under greater burden and pressure to make the temples agitation and Rath Yatra a success.

Doubtless to say, the BJP’s pro-YCP stance under Somu Veerraju has hurt the saffron party very badly as far as its future political prospects are concerned.

BJP seeks Andhra DGP’s removal for blaming it for temple attacks

2

BJP’s Andhra Pradesh unit has reacted strongly to Director General of Police Gautam Sawang’s statement blaming the BJP leaders for a series of attacks on temples in the state and demanded his removal.

Party’s state unit chief Somu Veerraju demanded that Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy should respond immediately to remove Gautam Sawang from the DGP’s post for making baseless allegations.

Addressing a news conference here on Sunday, the BJP leader said Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy should respond to the remarks made by the police chief.

He said it was unfortunate that instead of taking action against those involved in the attacks on temples, false cases were being booked against the BJP cadres.

Somu Veerraju said the YSR Congress party government should specify what is its objective. He alleged that the government is working to hurt the religious sentiments of the Hindus.

He found fault with the DGP’s statement and said no action was taken against the burning of ancient chariot at Antarvedi, desecration at Ramateertha temple and attacks on several other temples but the police chief announced booking of cases against the BJP leaders.

He said the officials enumerating properties of temples should also undertake the exercise in cases of churches in the state.

The BJP leader demanded an immediate halt to religious conversions in the state.

He said the government was acting with the intention to weaken Hindutva.

He wondered if the government is paying salaries to pastors for doing conversions. “When churches have assets worth thousands of crores, why should the government build churches,” he asked.

The BJP leader demanded a white paper on the assets owned by the churches and said the party would submit its report to the Centre on church assets.

Gautam Sawang had on Friday released details of political links in the desecration of temple idol cases and false propaganda on social media. He claimed that 21 people belonging to the TDP and the BJP were identified and 15 were arrested so far. Amongst the 21 people involved in nine cases, 17 belong to the TDP and four to the BJP. So far, 13 of those from the TDP and two from the BJP have been arrested, he had said.

AP TDP leaders admit getting contacted by BJP

2

BJP has very high expectations as well as plans with respect to their political fortunes in Andhra Pradesh. They have started contacting leaders of the opposition party of the state. While some of the leaders announced that they denied offer from BJP, some others openly revealed their vacillation about leaving TDP or continuing in TDP. But both admitted getting contacted by BJP. Details as below.

Kala Venkat Rao, senior leader of TDP rubbished the ongoing rumours in social media about him changing the party and joining BJP. He admitted that he was contacted by Somu Veeraraju, who invited him into BJP. But, he added, that was almost 4 years ago and now he has no plans to ditch TDP. He told, in a rather filmy style, that he will continue in TDP till the end of his life.

On contrary, Padala Aruna, another TDP leader of North Andhra openly commented that she is not able to take decision on joining BJP. She told, she was getting good offer from BJP but she is not able to end her 33 year old relationship with TDP. Also, she added, TDP party is not giving her any opportunity despite being loyal to the party for more than 3 decades.

From the statements of TDP leaders, it is clear that, BJP has been trying to occupy the second place in the state by relegating TDP to the third, the same way it did to congress party in Telangana. But it seems, at this moment, it is not that easy for the saffron party to achieve the same. We need to wait and see whether BJP will be successful in pulling any TDP leaders into their fold or not.

Veerraju on twin missions of ‘Aakarsh and temples’

2

BJP AP President Somu Veerraju is carrying out multiple tasks at one go these days. He has led his partymen in an unforgettable fight at Ramatheertham where he swooned along with his party leaders recently. He has also announced an agitation to fight for the protection of the Hindu temples and idols.

Simultaneously, Veerraju has speeded up his ‘Operation Aakarsh’ to attract the outside leaders into the BJP fold. Needless to say, the BJP leader is knocking on the doors of every probable leader to win over and claim that as his trophy. But, the situation is quite different in AP. The outside leaders are not so much attracted to the BJP policies with regard to AP.

However, Veerraju has recently met with film actress Vani Viswanath. There were also rumours that she would soon join the BJP but it was not yet announced. Obviously, she might be thinking again and again to join the BJP considering its present plight in AP politics.

Veerraju is also meeting major Kapu leader in Godavari district who is Mudragada Padmanabham at Kirlampudi tomorrow. It is well known Mudragada is devoted to only is caste agenda which is something undigestible to a single religion party like the BJP. Also, rumours are afloat that Veerraju is meeting TDP leaders Kala Venkatrao and Padala Aruna. Having no choice, Venkatrao has already reiterated that he would not leave the TDP under any circumstances.

The BJP is trying to win over Venkatrao since he is removed from the TDP AP president post and Atchannaidu is brought in that place.

Has BJP missed a golden chance to capture AP?

2

The BJP national leadership suddenly woke up to the ongoing controversy surrounding attacks on temples in Andhra Pradesh. But the Modi-Shah duo have certainly realised the mistake quite late. In the absence of any big recovery, the party is now trying to do some damage control.

The BJP central leadership is deeply regretting its failure to quickly grab the Ramatheertham opportunity to make it a State and National level issue. Eventually, the party top leaders have allegedly given a thorough warning to their AP incharges and State unit leaders never to make such mistakes again. Moreover, the central leadership has pressurised the AP leaders not to spare the Jagan Reddy Government on Ramatheertham and other attacks on temples.

It is only after this warning that BJP AP President Veerraju and other leaders started putting up a big show of protests against the Jagan rule. Whatever, other top BJP leaders in the state were not showing so much support to Veerraju team. Now, the BJP has even come out with ‘Rama Rath Yatra’ to make up for the lost opportunity.
]
What has upset the BJP central leaders is the fact that their arch enemy Chandrababu Naidu has walked with the whole credit in highlighting the Ramatheertham incident at the state and national levels. Analysts say that only an Advani type committed leader is required to make Rath Yatra a success in AP. But right now, the present team in the BJP AP unit has no such highly devoted leader.

CM KCR ‘peshi’ running land, sand and drug mafia: BJP

1

The counter attack on the arrest of TDP leader Bhuma Akhila Priya came from unexpected quarters. The BJP has taken advantage of the Hafeezpet Rs. 2,000 Cr land dispute to corner the TRS regime. Former MLA and senior BJP Telangana leader NVSS Prabhakar has straightaway demanded the KCR Government to explain about the role of his relatives in the Hafeezpet land scam.

The BJP leader alleged that KCR’s family members were also involved in the land dispute. The KCR Government’s land regularisation scheme and Dharani were aimed at protecting the illegal encroachers only. The police should bring out facts about the involvement of the TRS leaders along with Akhila Priya and Praveen Rao in the Hafeezpet lands issue.

Mr. NVSS Prabhakar alleged that CM KCR’s peshi has become a hub for the sand, land and drug mafia which is ruling the roost in Hyderabad and surroundings. The TRS and the MIM leaders have a role in the Hafeezpet lands dispute. It is an open secret that the KCR’s family hand is there behind every land scam in the Telangana Capital.
Doubtless to say, the BJP is all set to use the multi-crore land scams along with the religious issues to attack and counter KCR in the coming days.

BJP fighting ‘epic battle’ with AP police at Ramatheertham

6

All small and top leaders of BJP AP unit landed in Vizianagaram for their ‘Dharma Yatra’ on the Ramatheertham idol desecration. The police also arrived there in double the number of BJP cadres. Very dramatically, the police refused permission to the BJP crowds to go to the hilltop temple.
BJP AP President Somu Veerraju raised the battle cry and pushed ahead through the police barricade. There was a lot of pushing and shoving between the BJP activists and the police. Veerraju had fainted in the process. Another state leader Vishnu Vardhan Reddy also fell down.
BJP national leader GVL Narasimha Rao had threatened to talk to Union Home Minister Amit Shah about the incident. GVL asked why the AP Government gave permission to the YCP and the TDP leaders to visit the Ramatheertham temple but not the BJP leaders.
Obviously, the BJP AP leaders were trying everything they could to take the Ramatheertham controversy to the next level. But questions are being asked whether the BJP leaders can beat the mind games of Jagan Reddy and Chandrababu Naidu in AP.

BJP’s Hyderabad corporators try to lay siege to CM’s residence

1

The newly-elected corporators of BJP in Hyderabad on Tuesday tried to lay siege to the Telangana Chief Minister’s official residence, protesting the delay in formation of GHMC council.

The corporators of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) gathered near ‘Pragati Bhavan’, the official residence of the chief minister, and raised slogans against the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) government.

They said though a month has passed since declaration of results of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), the government has not formed the council.

The corporators, who were carrying party flags and placards, questioned the delay in issuing a notification to constitute the council.

They said despite being elected to GHMC, they are unable to undertake any works in their wards. They said corporators elected in 2016 elections were still acting as sitting corporators.

They held a meeting at Hotel Haritha Plaza near Pragati Bhavan and after the meeting tried to proceed towards Pragati Bhavan to lay the siege.

However, police swung into action to detain the corporators and shift them to police vehicles.

The corporators recently met Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan to complain that State Election Commission (SEC) has not issued gazette notification constituting GHMC council.

Elections to 150-member GHMC were held on December 1 and the results were declared on December 4.

Ruling TRS emerged as the single largest party by winning 56 seats but fell short of majority while BJP put up an impressive show to emerge as the second largest party with 48 seats. Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) finished third with 44 seats.

The election of mayor and deputy mayor will take place next month after the issue of gazette notification constituting the council.

The council will have 191 members including 41 ex-officio members. TRS has 30 ex-officio members while BJP has only two.

Sanjay’s sharp comments on Jagan, Somu is no match to Bandi?

4

Telangana BJP chief Bandi Sanjay has fiercely attacked Jagan today in the wake of the attack on Hindu temples in AP. His comments were so sharp and put YSRCP fans on social media into defense. But at the same time, it raised questions that whether Somu Veerraju, chief of AP BJP is on par with him to lead the party into a success. Details as below.

Somu Veerraju has definitely done a much better job than the former chief Kanna Lakshmi Narayana. Somu Veerraju has a much better rapport with the ally Janasena and has great clarity on how social equations work in the state of AP. There was a lot of euphoria in BJP and Janasena cadres when he took over the charge. However, in recent times, there are allegations against him that while he is very fierce in attacking TDP and other parties, he is not showing the same arrogance while attacking YSRCP.

In complete contrast, Bandi Sanjay has made very strong comments against Jagan today and asked the people of Tirupathi to polarize to defeat Jagan, and he also urged them not to divide based on caste. His attack on Jagan went viral on social media and many netizens were seen asking Somu Veerraju to follow the path of Bandi and vehemently attack the ruling party.

But the analysts opine that it is the success that speaks in any industry. As Bandi has recently tasted back to back successes his statements suddenly assumed a lot of significance. Tirupathi elections will be a real litmus test for Somu Veerraju and he plays the cards will finally decide how strong and how strategic he is

High tension at Ramatheertham amid YCP-TDP-BJP protests

1

Ramatheertham temple area turned into a battle zone due to gathering of huge crowds there. Activists of YCP, TDP, BJP and Hindu organisations thronged the temple. Hindu devotees raised slogans Jai Sriram and protested against the YCP leaders for creating disturbances at the temple.

The BJP leaders turned angry at the police for blocking them from going to the temple while allowing YCP MP Vijay Sai Reddy and his party leaders. Unexpectedly, very huge crowds gathered at the temple in view of the visit of TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu. TDP activists kept raising slogans in favour of Mr. Naidu and against Vijay Sai Reddy visit.

At one time, the TDP activists turned angry and pelted chappals and stones at the Vijay Sai Reddy convoy. A windowpane was broken in the incident. The police found it difficult to manage the crowd. The arrival of Vijay Sai Reddy simultaneously with Mr. Naidu created disturbances at the temple premises.

The police also did not give permission to the BJP and Hindu leaders to go to the temple in view of Vijay Sai’s visit. They raised slogans in protest against the YCP on the occasion.

YSRCP leaders in the trap of political opponents, Jagan irked

4

YSRCP leaders seemed to be fully trapped by the political opponents in the last couple of weeks and the inability of the party leaders to counter the allegations made by the opposition seems to have irked the party supremo Jagan.

Pawan trapped the Nanis and other YSRCP leaders:

YSRCP leaders spent the last week of 2020 completely defending themselves against the allegations made by Janasena chief Pawan Kalyan. In fact, YSRCP leaders did not expect such a huge response to his tour. Pawan too targetted the sycophancy of some leaders of YSRCP vehemently and his comments went viral on social media, giving headache to YSRCP leaders. In a vain attempt to defend themselves, they lambasted Pawan as a package star, but that allegation has now become a cliche and didn’t have any impact on the people. At the same time, Pawan’s allegations on Kodali Nani that he is more interested in his clubs rather than the roads of Gudivada found huge acceptance among the people of his own constituency. While YSRCP leaders targetted Pawan with personal attacks, Janasena leaders question YSRCP not assisting cyclone-affected farmers.

Now YSRCP in BJP’s trap:

BJP, the party that got lesser votes than NOTA in 2019, has now found an agenda to embarrass YSRCP in the state. The damage to Hindu Temples and the government’s inability to find and punish the victims has become a huge turning point in the politics of AP. The way the Ramateertham incident unfolded is a clear indication of how AP politics will turn in the near future. Jagan and his party leaders are not able to counter strongly whenever ‘religion’ is at the core of the issue.

Jagan irked with YSRCP leaders getting trapped:

Jagan seems to have been irked with the current developments. It seems Jagan’s plan was to heavily advertise the government’s scheme of distributing housing plots to the people but even the ministers who convened the press meets to praise the government and hail Jagan’s decisions got trapped when the reporters asked them questions on Pawan’s comments about Gudivada roads and farmers’ issues and on the attacks on Hindu temples. They spent more time answering these questions and defending themselves rather than publicizing the housing for all scheme. At the same time, there are more people who did not get the plots than those who got and those who did not get the plots are accusing about politicizing the scheme and benefitting only a few.

Overall, YSRCP government seems to be in an embarrassing position at the moment as they are yet to punish the culprits who damaged the temples and yet to provide the assistance to the farmers.

Jagan-BJP-Pawan on a secret mission to outsmart Naidu?

6

It is well known the BJP and Jaganmohan Reddy have secret understandings on many issues in AP. On his part, Pawan Kalyan may have political differences with the YCP but ultimately he would have to go soft and toe the pro-YCP line usually taken by the BJP. For long, it has been the joint strategy of the BJP-Jagan duo to weaken and push the TDP to a distant third place in the State. Now the question is whether Jagan-BJP-Pawan would be able to outwit and corner Chandrababu Naidu in the coming months.

Right now, the BJP AP leaders are concentrating on Tirupati bypoll. Somu Veerraju is making whirlwind tours there. On the other hand, their ally Pawan Kalyan has suddenly held a tour in Krishna district to corner the Government on farmers’ suicides. Pawan’s tour coincided with the Rythu Kosam programme launched by the TDP and also Nara Lokesh’s visits to damaged crops. Both Lokesh and Pawan levelled serious allegations but the YCP directed all their counter allegations against the Jana Senani. From the Chief Minister to his Ministers, the entire Cabinet reacted and criticised Pawan like never before. Finally, the YCP succeeded in giving maximum publicity to Senani’s tour. Was it part of a calculated plan to divert people’s attention from the TDP rising allegations?

Even Srisailam temple issue was also there. The YCP was levelling all types of allegations and giving top publicity to BJP Telangana MLA Raja Singh’s criticism.
Similar publicity gimmicks were in Telangana at the time of the GHMC elections. KCR, KTR and TRS leaders fully criticised the BJP and gave it a lot of negative publicity. In the process, the Congress voice was not heard much and it eventually suffered a terrible electoral setback. Analysts say that the Jagan-BJP-Pawan trio will definitely make every effort to outsmart Chandrababu in the coming days. Only time will tell whether the neutral voters and backward classes will keep the TDP strong enough or not.

Can BJP use ‘Telangana strategy’ to corner Naidu?

1

Everybody knows that Telangana State throws up ample chances for the voter polarisation along religious lines. That has become a big advantage for the BJP. In addition to that, KCR has extended indirect support. KCR has his own strategy in doing so. On the one side, the BJP will become strong which is enough only to weaken the Congress more than the TRS. On the other side, KCR has got indirect support from the MIM, which will never ever support the BJP anytime in future. As such, KCR is safe as long as the BJP and the Congress are equally strong but not enough to threaten the TRS winning chances.
Now, the irony is that the BJP AP leaders are hoping to use the Telangana tactics in Andhra Pradesh as well. They are going to use those strategies in the Tirupati byelection immediately. This means the BJP wants to take indirect support from Jagan Reddy just like they did in Telangana. The ultimate game plan is to make sure that the TDP would be pushed to a third place in Tirupati bypoll. A second place would be more than enough for the likes of BJP AP President Somu Veerraju and such leaders in order to claim great credit before the Modi-Shah duo.
There are calculations now in political circles that the BJP-Jagan strategy would be to use money and muscle power. Also, being in power in AP and at the Centre, both the parties have got the obvious advantage to hold a sway on the election machinery and the polling process just like in the recent GHMC elections.
But, the question remains whether the BJP, which got less than 1 percent vote share in 2019 in AP, can push the TDP to a third place in Tirupati now. That too, at a time, when the anti-establishment sentiment is evident against the Jagan regime and also against the Modi regime for not fulfilling Special Category Status promise and the like. Like in Telangana, the BJP also has no chance for instigating communal feelings to get huge electoral benefits. Only a miracle can make the BJP dream come true in Tirupati.

BJP spent Rs 50,000 Cr in Tirupati: No chance for Pawan

2

The BJP AP leaders are giving blow after blow to the people with their non-stop sensational statements. Their latest comments are regarding how the Modi Government has done lots of things to develop Tirupati. BJP AP President Somu Veerraju has gone a few steps forward and claimed that the Modi regime spent over Rs. 50,000 Cr for the overall development of the Tirupati Lok Sabha constituency.
All these thousands of crores were spent for laying national highways, development of smart city, infrastructure, national institutions like the Indian Institute of Technology, etc in the temple town and its jurisdiction. What more, a port and many industries have also come up. There are fast growing special economic zones like Sri City.

Now, the question is arising whether the BJP still deserves to put up its candidate in Tirupati bypoll instead of the Jagan Sena Party of Pawan Kalyan. The BJP Government might have spent Rs. 50,000 Cr but it got less than 1 percent vote share in the entire AP in 2019 while it got far lesser percent vote share compared to Pawan in Tirupati LS seat.

Nevertheless, the BJP leaders are raising their voice each day as if there is no party in AP that is ready to give any type of political or electoral challenge to it. The BJP AP leaders are considering as if both the ruling YCP and the Opposition TDP are non-existent while Pawan Kalyan’s party is no more than their pocket organisation.

Tirupati BJP-Pawan candidate not yet decided: Purandeswari

1

The Bharatiya Janata Party used to be known for its discipline in the beginning. But it seemed to be changing its style to suit the emerging political requirements on the national level and also in the States. BJP AP leaders have already announced that their party would field its nominee in Tirupati bypoll as part of their alliance with the Jana Sena. But now, BJP National General Secretary Purandeswari came out with a different statement. She said that their alliance nominee was not yet decided and it was still open for discussions at both ends.

Purandeswari further said that the BJP national leadership would not figure in this aspect. The joint candidate would be decided at the level of the State level leaders. The BJP AP President and the Jana Sena President would hold discussion on this and take a final decision.

But the question is that BJP AP President Somu Veerraju was already saying at different forums that it would be the BJP candidate who would contest the Tirupati bypoll. At the same time, Pawan Kalyan had also silently formed his own party committee to go around and study the field level situation whether they would stand the chances or not.

BJP targetting Naidu, KCR, Mamata but not Jagan

12

All over the country, the Modi-Shah regime is giving nightmares to rival parties. Under their leadership, the BJP has been giving a tight fight to KCR and threatening to displace Congress in Telangana. It has won over MPs of the TDP at the national level. The BJP has succeeded now in winning over 11 MLAs of Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress at one go. Of them, a former minister was included.
Political observers in Telugu states are raising questions as to why the BJP is not putting such focus to disturb and destabilise the Jaganmohan Reddy regime and his YCP in Andhra Pradesh. It is true that Jagan was giving unconditional support to the BJP in the Parliament. Still, Modi-Shah’s usual style of aggressive expansion is largely missing in AP.
Analysts say that the BJP found itself in a helpless situation in Andhra Pradesh as of now. It has to put up a very strong fight against the YCP if it wants to polarise the Hindu vote banks among the backward classes and some upper castes. But that is not possible for the BJP since it is getting support of Jagan in the Rajya Sabha. Whereas, the TDP has everything to gain since it is agitating against the Jagan regime in every aspect from Amaravati to atrocities on Dalits, BCs, STs and Muslim Minorities.
It looks like the political wings are not so favourable for the BJP’s bold dreams of capturing power in AP in 2024 polls.
